Well you've finally caught a break Ian with the bonus calf. I live in a rural area and I never go into fields with cattle partly because I dont want to get zapped by the fence (in a sensitive area maybe☺) but Farmers need to put a bull in ,aggressive or not , and I still fear of cattle may knock me down.......this topping is great therapy for me😅Flipping noisy animals

its like i went for a walk near me a few years ago(on a public footpath ) and there were dairy cattle in this field - i was calm etc and they came over said hello and then wandered off down the field. got some nice photography pics of them mind you

Move the sticker to another part of the 🚜 tractor 🚜. Another new addition looked a healthy tiddler. Farm near to me and you never hear anything from their cow's .

Topping our last Paddock on Sunday (Grass was so thick in the bottom it was the longest session ever - had to go very slowly) I had a young Mr Fox with me for a couple of hours. He was having a great time playing with the mown grass and stalking bunnies. He didn't get any.

I don't like it when they have time to stick a sticker, yet no time to check the lids.
Do like watching the business end when your out on the tractor, can still hear you OK.
The calf is a bonus and I wonder if the birth was out in the field in natural surroundings. It's looking fit and well and mums taking care.

They probably put the sticker in so you can remember who you used last time. A lot of people can’t remember where they have taken it. So if something goes wrong etc. you know who to contact or where to take it 🤞
The sticker should cost them a demo unit to play with every 6 months!

How did you miss a new calf? Well, this was great as they can be sneaky. They do not take instructions from us on who, when and where. That is a really nice surprise. Beautiful and healthy. A little blessing. Oh, I like your hay, silage, grass experiemnt. I forgot all about cattles natural digging instinct when fresh earth smell is there. Also, playing king of the mountain even with a hump. STICKER OFF. You make me laugh when you've had enough cow hollaring and shout at them, how often they go quiet. Like, they madee Dad mad!

I’m kind of 1/2 and 1/2 on the sticker. No, they didn’t provide it, but, aside from what wound up being a small mistake(yes, it could have been worse, but wasn’t), they did a fair good job. They did a good valet, and the also tightened the parking brake.
That was a much more pleasant surprise that the last one. 👍👍

We had some surprises at times with 800 pigs specially from the ones kept in the fields. Little pigglets running allover the place.

Definitely negotiate a sponsorship deal if sticker retention an option. Low Mini telehandler with headstock to take all your skid steer implements is a starting point. Obviously A/c and few creature comforts are a sweetener too. Tell them they can tie an 8ft banner on the mast if necessary.

Have you thought about making some extension plates for the skids? I have made this mod to my flail and it runs perfectly at 2-4 inches higher and leaves a decent amount of grass on the ground. Maybe worth thinking about.

Take the sticker out. They did a service( not particularly well) but did not supply it originally. You could charge them for advertising space😂.

For sure if you leave it, it will be harder to take off later. Since you can't really see it. I wouldn't bother with it.
Farming is land management that's what you are doing and to your best advantage. Only way to farm a small acreage with cattle.

I always think its worth PD testing those cows we think may be barren. OurHighland bull sometimes takes his time to catch us out.
Interesting update Ian. If you tighten your stocking density up but move them every 2 days you'll get less selective grazing and double your rest period so instead of 10 -14 days rest you might get 20-30
If I didn't have so many of last years bales left I would have done that Tom, The fields I have for rotation would have been 3-4-3-4-2 days giving them all 9 to 12 days rest. But with so much in stock, and a Cocci problem last Winter I have opted to Ranch a third of the farm, supplementary feeding with left over bales, and making a load of "clean" hay for next Winter. No 💩= less chance of gut problems... Weather permitting, I will put bthe bottom two fields back into rotation once they have recovered from the first cut, Unless I muck one of them, the bottom left (Old plough ground) gets wet and soft very quickly, I have tonnes of 💩 to get out, so that may be allowed to go fallow for an extra month or two. A lot depends on the weather. That's the plan.🙂👍

Now if TH White wish to offer discount or sponsor you in some form of way due to advertising their name on your tractor Ian. Then I wouldn’t say it’s bold of you to give them a call etc. Plus the cap being left off the brake reservoir that could have caused a serious incident. The sticker doesn’t earn my faith in a way due to that I understand mechanics error etc. well done with the surprise calf addition

I not a lot experiance with cows but I know most animals will start to run if you do, just to play or to get ahead of you. in worst case you trigger their huntig instinkt.

it is not really a lie. the sticker was supplied by T H WHITES. Tell them there is a fee for product placement on your channel. equivalent to the price of the work they did.
I'm always interested in how things are done differently in the UK compared to here in Virginia. I've never seen anyone top off their fields here. Down the street there's about 50 cows in a field with grass about 3ft high. They stay out there all year. Only time they cut anything around here is to make hay which most are doing now. Just makes me curious.❤
Cows can be picky eaters John, they will always eat the best bits first, this results in tufts of tougher less palatable grasses which become so obvious the cattle will avoid them even more. Taking the seed head tops off encourages growth from lower down and leaf regeneration, it also removes the visible tufts, The roller on the topper also squeezes out the turds, spreading the manure a lot thinner preventing the cow pat dead spots. Keeping cattle in the same field all year can vastly increase the gut worm burden, I am forced to do it because of TB this year, but normally I would move them to fresh pastures every couple of weeks to help break the worm cycle.

Personally I'd get rid of the advertising badge. They didn't do you any favours by leaving the cap off. It annoys me when Dealers stick their name on the number plates of cars but never ask if you are happy to be their free advertising billboard for the rest of the cars life. Same goes for that sticker

Evening Farmer P I would keep the sticker and get them to sponsor you for a video or 3 Now some questions please When you wrap silage or grass Why do you net it and then wrap it in black plastic Why do you just not wrap it in plastic only ? And Hay I think is a very good idea But !!! Are you going to square bale it ?

The net's only job is to hold the bale together, There will be more net wraps for hay, possibly only a couple if you are going to plastic wrap as well. Square bales need to be VERY dry, I tend to do rounds as they fit our system better and I can always leave them in the field for ten days if they are a tad damp.🙂👍

Congrats on the new (unexpected) addition! Just out of curiosity though - do you think the lack of a bull right now could maybe have something to do with some of the cattle being a bit... lets call it - "unsettled"? I know he wouldn't be running with them all year, but wouldn't it almost be time now for that? I mean, otherwise they're healthy, they have enough food and enough space, so could prolonged lack of male attention perhaps be a factor? Either that or its just one of those things... You know, where one picks up a bad habit and others just "have to" copy them. In a word - they're just being ornery because they're cattle and they can. I mean, (some) people do it too, why not cattle?
As for the sticker, its your call - personally, I'd probably take it out or at least try to move it to a less conspicuous location if you can. But that's just my OCD - not a huge fan of anything "foreign" around my steering wheel 😅
