Soon as you pulled that front panel for the fan compartment, I was screaming run away. Been through that nightmare, gotta wish who ever designed that mess, was sitting in a pich black attic, at 10:00 p.m., then telling the homeowner can't fix it, till parts show up, specially when cold. Hang in there.
In my 45 years of service, this kind of attempts to retrofit and fake it to make it has always been a MAJOR pain in the arse! In the long run, the right factory parts are the ONLY way to properly get the JOB done. I have had to tell the paying customer that I tried with what I had on my service truck and that they would have to wait for my return with the factory parts. Great work Curtis but we can't be the hero on every call.
I do this all week! Why am I watching this on the weekend? lol Tip: get a rechargeable head lamp from Harbor Freight (28$) with the two year warranty for 8 bucks, it’ll make what you’re doing easier for us to see
At the Start of the Video, we thought you had a Service Call at a Haunted House.🤔 “Shirley” (aka Siri) knows your Name, Curtis. Ain’t that Special ? 😬👍🙏
Man I love your videos! Been in hvac since July of 22. Started real service calls the summer after and this is my first heating season your videos help me out so much crazy how many things can go different
Wow, I felt your pain on this one. I actually replaced the blower motor on this exact same model last summer. But I was able to use existing mounts. Attic was a toasty 130 degrees. I was getting flashbacks when you struggled to get it out of that cabinet. Very poor design. Love the videos!
Hello… Hello Curtis. It’s amazing how sometimes the job goes. Right? That’s what a HVAC Technician needs to go through it. You did right brother. Order the right ones. Great video. Thanks for all these tips. Enjoy the weekend. Rick over Martha’s Vineyard Island. 🇺🇸🤜🤛
@John-dp3ln it's almost never the engineers fault, they naturally want to OVER engineer stuff, its their bosses that tell them to design something that is cheap to make and will last long enough.
i always use three ear or four ear brackets but never seen that yet but now i know that there are some blower housing that wont work with the after market brackets
I guess in SC you can do fine without heat, but up in Maryland, it's not as easy in the winter. This is the biggest drawback to requiring factor only parts.
They do it on purpose do you have to buy OEM part's. But now they do make a belly band to adapt to that design. Goodmsn motors are spot welded to the motors.
That thing is fighting you the whole way. I know you get to a point to where you just spend too much time trying to improvise. You could have bought some large L brackets, or small shelf brackets and made them work, but all the time shopping, drilling holes and such, it is just not worth it. You are doing it the right way. A dummy like me would have gone shopping. Also your supplier may have had a different or larger belly strap or whatever you call it. Like I said, you are doing it right.
If you already have a torch and know how to solder a line. (Takes some skill)Just carry some brass rods and some flux and braze things like those brackets. You'll be glad you did. Brazing is a little different skill but easier than soldering lines.
Dang Curtis. That's a back breaker for sure. Time to upsell customer on new unit! Maybe some interior lighting too! Wishing you a great new year, free from the past, a new chapter in your life.
I said before you got up to the unit. "It is probably a Carrier or Bryant" but now I know that RUUD also likes making non universal furnaces. Great job not doing a half ass job.
Hey Mate..when you have a situation where you have to wait for parts..do you try to keep the system operational for the customer..untill the parts come in?? Do you put everything back together as beat as. You can..and when you do all that work..do you ever have a customer who don't want any further work done?? Or are homeowners pretty good about allowing you to finish recommended repairs??
What do you mean? It's B vent. That's the best stuff for 80% flues. Most guys run 26 gauge, or 30 if they're hacks. B vent is the standard for low efficiency.
What an incredibly stupid design. Have to remove an exhaust (passing through return air no less, one tiny leak and people die), have to completely disassemble every thing just to get the blower out, AND you are forced to use OEM motor and mounts. If I was that customer, just the exhaust would make me tell Curtis to forget the repair, replace the whole unit with a better one.
That family of furnaces were available as either a down flow/horizontal (the one shown) or a upflow/horizontal which didn't have the flue pipe routed through the blower compartment. The latter would have been the better choice for the original installer. A 15 mfd capacitor is unusual for a 1/2 hp motor. The Rescue motor that was in the truck stock took either a 5 or 10 mfd. On a previous service call, did the tech install the wrong capacitor? If so, a quick call to the Ruud distributor with the model and serial number of the furnace would have yielded the answer. On startup, that motor sounded more like a shaded pole motor than a split capacitor model. Perhaps the wrong capacitor was installed.
Hi Curtis, was that a dead rat? Was it working out on the wheel when he died? Lol. I enjoy your videos. I'm not a HVAC guy. I'm a truck driver. Your vids are interesting.
Just wondering, when you guys waste a hour chasing a bad idea do you charge the client for that hour ? I know if your working for someone you can't just not charge, but if your working for yourself. I know I don't
Besides being hard to get the blower housing out, why when the housing is that dirty on the inside, wouldn't you use the spray foaming cleaner you use outside on the coil? Wouldn't that be easier and do a better job than just water?
The simple maintenance things that should be universal manufactures just have to make them proprietary just to get a few more dollars and make life miserable for the homeowner and repairman.
What a POS! When I saw how the capacitor was mounted and the transformer not to mention the electrical junk, I knew there was going to be a problem. At least it wasn't summer and the sweat dripping on the job.
00:37:56 AHAHAHAHAHAHAH.... Can you add a Wider lens to the Camera ??? You were working out of view most of the time. You have the Power to support a small 120 Volt Welder ?? Fix the brackets. Thanks.. Mike M.

You are the man of the hour..that looked like a royal pain in the back side..all for a blower motor..lol
It's totally amazing how these units are manufactured..knowing that there being installed in tight spaces..not thought out very well
I remember doing a bunch of those!... brought back terrible memories... I felt like I was in that attic with ya.
As soon as I saw the flue going out the opposite side from the evaporator my heart sunk. Must be the worst designed furnace I've ever worked on.
I hate those motor brackets they really made it to where you have no choice but to use oem parts. Good video
Sometimes factory parts has to be done. Rest well this weekend one and all.
It's obvious that the engineers designed this system to be the most reliable system ever made because they sure didn't design it to be worked on.

That is awesome!

Curtis you have the patience of job most people would have started throwing stuff great job thanks for the video
Thanks 👍
Hello…
Hello Curtis.
It’s amazing how sometimes the job goes.
Right?
That’s what a HVAC Technician needs to go through it.
You did right brother.
Order the right ones.
Great video.
Thanks for all these tips.
Enjoy the weekend.

That design is so frusterating, the designers paid no attention to any kind of maintenance.
Try getting the blower motor out of a wall hung mini split head unit.
Exactly
Because blower motors never go bad. I have little respect for many engineers. If you can’t do the job, you shouldn’t be designing the equipment!
@John-dp3ln it's almost never the engineers fault, they naturally want to OVER engineer stuff, its their bosses that tell them to design something that is cheap to make and will last long enough.
they don't want them to be fixed they want people buying new ones
You gave it your BEST!
Sometimes OEM is the only way to do things, even it it is a wait
What a PITA!
i always use three ear or four ear brackets but never seen that yet but now i know that there are some blower housing that wont work with the after market brackets
I guess in SC you can do fine without heat, but up in Maryland, it's not as easy in the winter. This is the biggest drawback to requiring factor only parts.
I would really like to meet the engineer who designed that thing to ask him just one question....What were you smoking that day....I want some.
They do it on purpose do you have to buy OEM part's. But now they do make a belly band to adapt to that design. Goodmsn motors are spot welded to the motors.
Reem ,Rudd does make a bracket it was for ecm motors that will work on after market psc motors i keep 1 my van i will try to get a part #

Diveritech motors have the holes in the housing for the wings
awesome attempt! I'm glad to see other folks make an effort to use what ya got! keep it up!
Sometimes those can be a real pain 😊😊😊
If I’m going to an attic or crawl space and the blower doesn’t work I put caps in my service bag -5/7.5/10/12.5/15uf
What a PITA! You have a lot of patience.!
Ayeee good thing it was the winter time and not summer. I can only imagine if it was hot up there.
Those units have to much in the way 😂 great video Mr. Curtis
Thanks

Well done Curtis, in the long run i have always used genuine parts to be sure 👍 Au
Thanks 👍
Good repair... Good video !!
What happened to the old tool bag?
That’s the way it goes sometimes. Sometimes it’s just not meant to be.
OEM for the win 🏆 today 😊
Dang Curtis. That's a back breaker for sure. Time to upsell customer on new unit! Maybe some interior lighting too! Wishing you a great new year, free from the past, a new chapter in your life.
I would like to see more motor change out videos
At least the blower comes out. Because on a 2008 3 ton Lennox package unit you can’t get the case out just the motor
Hey Curtis do you have something against head lamps? Because it would help a lot at this job
Why do a lot of your clients live in the dark Curtis , damn turn on your friggin lights.👍👍🇨🇦
I said before you got up to the unit. "It is probably a Carrier or Bryant" but now I know that RUUD also likes making non universal furnaces.
Great job not doing a half ass job.
Thanks
Been there you got to use the factory mounts
If the fan blades looked that bad, was the air filters ever changed ?
Un gusto ver estos videos

I took an L today working on one of these furnaces. I thought it would be a simple blower motor but then I ran into the screwed up oem bracket
And you could have stuck your phone in there and took a picture beat the hell out of pulling that dust field fan out
Is that exhaust pipe leagal?
Looks dangerous

00:01:15 the watch wants to help! 😂
That looked monumentally irritating. How old is that system? Factory parts being no doubt overpriced, is it worth saving?
That piece of insulation in the wheel probably ruined the mounting brackets and motor bearings
Hi Curtis, was that a dead rat? Was it working out on the wheel when he died? Lol. I enjoy your videos. I'm not a HVAC guy. I'm a truck driver. Your vids are interesting.
Thanks
That was the job out of hell
the man refuses to buy a headlamp
Ruud really sucks on the way they design their ahu you need a lot of patience on those.
Why the new bag curtis?
Just like the small backpack
Those motors have about 12 of 1/4 inch little screws rite. Yeah better get fact sp mtr. 😅
The worst part is you are breathing in particle dust AKA fiberglass?
Just wondering, when you guys waste a hour chasing a bad idea do you charge the client for that hour ?
I know if your working for someone you can't just not charge, but if your working for yourself. I know I don't
OMG,, ANOTHER one of those units with that duct blocking everything! I bet you hate to see those units! Is it a RUDD design?
OEM parts are sometimes better than using some cheap made in China sourced aftermarket parts.
I just cross RUUD Rheem off my list for possible replacement of my 30 year old Carrier. What a freaking nightmare design this Ruud is.
Besides being hard to get the blower housing out, why when the housing is that dirty on the inside, wouldn't you use the spray foaming cleaner you use outside on the coil? Wouldn't that be easier and do a better job than just water?

👍👍😊😊
I think it should be mandatory that engineers work in the field at minimum 5 years before they’re allowed to design equipment.
Rescue motors are good for emergencies but for the long term, OEM motors are far superior.
What is the name of the puller
I would carry more lights with me
SHEESH!!!
Those mounting brackets looked under engineered. What a joke.
I cannot understand why people put units in an attic.
What a POS! When I saw how the capacitor was mounted and the transformer not to mention the electrical junk, I knew there was going to be a problem. At least it wasn't summer and the sweat dripping on the job.
I've cussed and cursed the builders a many of times for their poor build designs..
I call it belly ban
JB Weld. 😄
You have a lot of videos with the fan motor….#number one part to fail
00:37:56 AHAHAHAHAHAHAH....
Can you add a Wider lens to the Camera ??? You were working out of view most of the time.
You have the Power to support a small 120 Volt Welder ?? Fix the brackets.
Thanks..
Mike M.
Good god, dumbest design ever award
Hmmmmmmmmm
Don’t be talkin smack about Ted 🤣
Ted's damn good, but he kind of looks like an outlaw biker
Yes he don't like wheel pullers and he also has trane brain lol
He don't like wheel pullers and he also has trane on the brain lol
ted is old school. was pulling motors before motor pullers were made.
hard to watch...camerawork is all over the freakin place..
Hate those damn units. Stupid design
What a terrible design.
Order the right mount brackets. Don't do that
