Thanks Curtis for taking the time to teach us how to repair the heating elements on the heat strip didn't know how to do that always learning something from your videos. 👍
These old Goodman/Junktrol units were pretty good. Nice and simple with just mechanical controls that were easy to diagnose and replace. Don’t see a lot of them anymore
“we always change the filters” lol. What bloody mess, don’t know how you do it Curtis. The damn door was only on with one hinge, the blower is so dirty I’m surprised the motor wasn’t fried. You know they’ll complain about the cost of the replacement elements. That damage is caused by more than age. It’s caused by lack of air flow and the elements over heating constantly. Same with the limits.👍👍🇨🇦
I always learn new stuff from your channel Curtis. Not that I have much use for heat in South Florida but I didn’t even know what to look for. Much appreciated!
Haven't seen a restring kit in years. We normally just sell a new strip kit...I keep some old kits laying around for parts. Had one guy last winter think he had a late 70s model Tappan electric air handler his strips kept going out and we ended up selling a new system.
Curtis hi yeah those are hard to find parts for E Htrs best thing is to save from old scrap units when possible...i ll do it the same way in Miami except is only 61 degrees here. Not very cold. Greetings from here
Curtis, Was that old insulation by the blower input opening? Also, I was surprised that you left one limit switch in there so "cockeyed" (below your usual standards). I know it has no effect on functionality.
A few years back I rebuilt my heat strips like you are doing. They didn't make through the second season before burning out. I said to hell with that and replaced both units. Going on 7 years and no more problems. Mine's a Coleman 15KW using one single element unit and one double element unit.
Brand new filter 😂 Probably the 2nd one this unit has ever had Put a new filter so the Tech don't know we don't change it Like Christmas story He knows he always knows 😂😂
Is that the craftsman light I have one Could not figure out the 1 light Thought it was broke So one day I happened to hold down the power button and it came on Very nice to work with Definitely would recomend it
I usually try to save one of the old elements to stretch the new one to the old one. I might just stretch it out 6 foot. What happens if the tech is only 5 foot tall? Lol. Good video.
Around here we have a couple of CSX mainline tracks along the Erie Canal. Some 50 trains per day. We usually see 50 cars per engine so yes it would be awhile for that train with 4 engines to pass by you. I wonder how that heat strip opened in like three places?
Curtis: I have a Carrier 125K gas furnace that is 44 years old, still working fine with no cracks, rust or burned heating parts. Will replace with a new HVAC system this winter
If the two heat strips were fused, wouldnt that trip the main breaker and not the one for the furnace? With the two strips melted together, wouldnt that double the voltage passing through?
Almost the same thing, I've changed one before. If you kink it anywhere, that is where it will burn out. It must be cheaper than just buying the heat strips.
9.6 kw ok. Seems like insulation so dirty and maybe sucking on dirty blower wheel.. I also hate when i just tape those wires and then are so hard to remove in such a tight spot trust me i got a Goodman home ....w only 5 kw heat working anyway i m not allow to use the Heat at home. U understand me rite😂
Yuck, electric heat. Simple but expensive to operate. Efficiency means nothing when the price per kw keeps going up. These things eat KWs like its in a eating contest. Good work Curtis.
Obviously you have done a couple of these before! Filthy dirty filter door screams... "Quick the technician is coming. Put in a new filter." Who do they think 🤔 they are fooling. Plain filthy!

Anytime
I didn't t know heat strips could be repaired. Great video
News to me also. I thought they were Replaced and Recycled at the Scrap Dealer.
@@kens.3729my preference is to replace them because if you restring them and get them to loose they will sag and touch shorting out

This guy has the most awesome truck setup 👍

Cain't be WASTING money on filters , gotta buy a Tall COLT 45 🍺 MAN.
@@ThomasWalker-m2y Oh man! That's one kicker, of a malt liquor!!!!

THANKS FOR PASSING IT FORWARD. 😎🤟
You bet
Love those EMD locomotives with the 645 prime movers in them. Nothing like that two stroke sound. Great video too.
Maybe they need to keep the air flowing. Can't even imagine what resistance heat would cost here in MN.

Nice job as always & thx for showing the train

Nice work man 😊nasty air handler 😊

Great job Curtis.
Thanks
Nice 😀
Thanks 😋
😊@@HVACGUY
Hey Curtis you could have easily added ring terminals and a couple female spades to a 6 inch wire and used regular limit switches
Nice job, you completely rebuilt that thing. I hope they let you clean it.
Thanks Curtis for another amazing video, is that normal amps for one leg of power, I had the same situation yesterday but keeps tripping the breaker
In this case yes
@ ok cool thanks Curtis
Again and again you'll find me in pure amazement, how much current you run over tiny little wires in the US...
To be fair, these particular wires are designed to glow red hot.
A few years back I rebuilt my heat strips like you are doing. They didn't make through the second season before burning out. I said to hell with that and replaced both units. Going on 7 years and no more problems. Mine's a Coleman 15KW using one single element unit and one double element unit.

Like Christmas story

😂😂
ALL Electric Utilities here in the STL is Very Expensive compared to Natural Gas Furnace and Gas Water Heater. 🤔👍
Its impressive for how small the heat kit is the ammount of heat it produces.
Brand new lmbo, you know what you know. For the algorithm 😂😊, otherwise nasty dirty!!!
This was really cool. Never knew heat strips could be repaired.
Is that the craftsman light
I have one
Could not figure out the 1 light
Thought it was broke
So one day I happened to hold down the power button and it came on
Very nice to work with
Definitely would recomend it
It's the $99 Milwaukee light
I usually try to save one of the old elements to stretch the new one to the old one. I might just stretch it out 6 foot. What happens if the tech is only 5 foot tall? Lol. Good video.
Nice repair
Is there a reason why hallways are not lit in the US? Every home we have ever owned also had proper lighting in the furnace area.
Depends on the house but yes our hallways are usually well lit 😂
4 EMD SD40s best locomotives ever built.
It makes me wonder how people can be so filthy. If they have that much dust built up, I wonder what the rest of the place looks like.
What's with all the soot on that thing?
I could never get re-string kits to match original. Very aggravating job.

Try electrical supply company, or mcmaster-carr
One time I had to restring the elements in my GE dryer, reminds me of that.
Thermal switch ????
Curtis: I have a Carrier 125K gas furnace that is 44 years old, still working fine with no cracks, rust or burned heating parts. Will replace with a new HVAC system this winter
I don't know why people depend on getting heat a system like, they should be using BASEBOARD HEAT, heat strips should be only used as a backup.....
If the two heat strips were fused, wouldnt that trip the main breaker and not the one for the furnace?
With the two strips melted together, wouldnt that double the voltage passing through?
Those limit are a carrier part number
Take pictures before n after.
The blower compartment!
🤢 🤮
That heating element looks like something from a dryer…..(you spent a lot of time) with that one
Almost the same thing, I've changed one before. If you kink it anywhere, that is where it will burn out. It must be cheaper than just buying the heat strips.
should be in sequence could be on 120 T-stat
drill and put new mounts in it spacing is what I’m after
does it have a relay 😊
it might be heating season but it’s cooling I worry about
With you being over 6 feet tall it makes me wonder how you make getting into those tight spots look easy. 😂
what the resistance
heat strips I deal with duct heaters
should be in sequence could be on 120
my heat pumps I take care off
Why not change the entire rack? Time to restring on a very old system is a waste of time ( new furnace)?
I try
onley in common areas
9.6 kw ok. Seems like insulation so dirty and maybe sucking on dirty blower wheel..

I would have replaced the whole heater they are a pain to resting

It's a dead short, like a toaster. It's the dumbest way that anyone could beat a house.
