It's funny how the first lesson had 4 million views and this lesson has almost 300,000 views. Just shows how many people gave up too early. Congrats on making it here everyone, keep going and trying to improve.
i love how marty says people get frustrated with the f chord and the comment section is literally just people getting frustrated with the f chord HAHAHAHA it's weirdly comforting knowing that im not alone with this
i saw the comments first and came into the video worried about getting stuck on this chord. glad to see its just a slight variation of the c chord. if you guys found this difficult you havent been practicing the previous lessons enough 😂 (im coping)

G and A are way harder for me, really appreciate you teaching me C first because it made the transition really easy with the way you showed it. Thanks so much Marty, I've finished with your beginner lessons and I'm looking forward to getting good enough to follow your future videos. Will pay you back when I'm a rock star, or when I finish my trade and can afford to pay back to all the people like you that have shared their knowledge with me.
Marty.... I played guitar 40 years ago and stopped. Picked it up again at almost 60 y/o and started over with these lessons and I have to say these are the best. Thank you sir!
@Erika b my d used to sound bad as well but i just did it every day and after a week or two i got it down. im only good with g, em, and d. working on c now
@Erika b mine too. I keep falling into a trap of muting the E string. I'll fix it, play it a few times, take my hand away and go back to try again, and same thing. Eventually I'll get it, but it's definitely been the worst for me. Everything else has come after a day or two of practicing it but D is still a tough one for me.
Greetings Marty I subscribed to your channel I'm a combat Veteran suffering from PTSD and music and Art has gotten me through the rough times and still does to this day thanks to you and many others that has helped get us Veterans through the day and just daily life. Music is better than any drug to battle this messed up illness.
morenoarts I'm a veteran as well. Some VA places have chapters of an organization. Called Guitar for Vets that teaches you how to play guitar. It's where I learned the basics and I've found Marty to give me more help on line.
You are such an awesome teacher! The last 15 years I've been trying to learn! 3 weeks in and you explain everything so concisely, I'm actually putting some chords together!!! Thanks so much Marty, this has been so affirming for me and I am grateful!
I love the lessons. This F cord is actually way easier than the way I learned it years ago. Back then my teacher had me bar the bottom two strings on the first fret and then play second fret B string and third fret D- hated it! I wonder why the boxes for the playlists or next video aren't clickable.
Wow! I am really connecting with the way he is teaching. I’m having so much fun playing songs and I’m getting a “real” guitar (I’m playing on something right now that’s one step above a ukulele!) for my birthday next week! I’m starting this off late in life (I’ll be 56 next week) but it’s always been a dream of mine to be able to play the guitar while I sing! Thanks Marty! You’re a great teacher AND you make me laugh!
Honestly I’m so thankful for your videos! I’ve been playing continuously for about a little over a month and I now know 8 chords perfected soon to be 9 with this one!! I can’t transition from chord to chord yet tho right away. So exited to start learning songs soon!!
Take it slowly. Use a metronome and just play each chord 4 times, then increase the speed and soon enough you can get them perfectly. Keep it up motivators!!
hey Marty. i am currently being bullied. and relation ships. and these guitar lesson helps me focus on some positive things. it makes me feel. i can prove them wrong and actually do something. thank you so much Marty. 😍
Thank u, I have been playing my little Hofner electric guitar for a bit, trying to learn the guitar basics. I'm a noise analog musician and just started to incorporate it into my gear with some amazing petals. I wanted to compliment you on your patience and dedication to teaching people the basics of playing an instrument. A lot of us are dyslexic and have trouble with conventional learning. You are one of the best teachers out there. I wish the educational world was filled with people like you in all aspects of life. Not everyone learns the same way; it takes patience, reassurance, and dedication. Most importantly, empathy.
js started watching these vids, been practing the past few chords for bout 1 month n a half, gotta say F chord and C chord r a struggle😂 but these vids have helped so much! Thx for making these man🫶
I come with a background in many instruments from Trumpet, Bass, Ukulele, Mandolin, etc.. however I never gave guitar a chance because I figured I had all I needed. When I decided to give it a shot I came straight to this channel and wow... You are by far the greatest teacher there is. Keep it up man, you have taught so many now musicians who give you all of the credit!
thank you for taking the time to share some of your knowledge with us. i’ve really enjoyed your lessons ,and your obvious love of guitar has inspired me to practice through the hard ,and often frustrating, times. thanks man
I don't particularly like comments where people go "I got this straight away!" because it comes off to me that they're either lying or showing off unnecessarily and discouraging the rest of us. But I did exactly what Marty said here and got this one straight away. I think because I got a tip that for more difficult chords like the C and F it's better to break them down first and focus on the two top fingers, then once you're comfortable with that, add more lower notes. That's how I finally got the C more or less down to. Obviously there's a lot of work and practice before I anywhere near comfortable playing the two chords and incorporate them into my young arsenal. Let's do it guys!
Ur the MAN Marty Schwartz. Just followed ur advise from lesson 1 and just got the C and F chords 2day lesson ?....Didn,t find it so difficult funny enuf...I,m abt 6 weeks into starting and ur absolutely correct. A little bit each day. I,ve absolutely surprised myself. Thanks alot Dude. Andy Jackson (UK).
Thank you for these lessons Marty! My friend gave me a guitar almost a decade ago, but I never got around to seriously trying to learn. I'd pick up 2 or 3 songs, get familiar with how to strum the chorus and would lose interest. I think it was due to the lack of visible progression. I only started back up again about 2 weeks ago, but following your chord progression and really making an effort to memorize chord names/patterns has helped me immensely. It's given me a sense of progress. Now I don't want to get too ahead of myself, but seeing as this is nearing the end of the series (I only see 1 more chord lesson after this) what would people recommend I follow afterwards? How many chords do most people have in their arsenal so to speak? Is just learning a bunch of songs a feasible way to improve?
A B chord would also be very useful to know! Other than that, basically try and learn power chords and then barchordes since they're also used heavily in popular music. Don't let yourself get discouraged if you can't get it right away, it's a bit different than regular chords! This is a year later, but I do hope you're still on your guitar learning journey friend! I wish you all the best!
this man isnt lying. i couldnt do it the first time. couldnt do it the 3 or 4th of 5th. But after a week or 2 of practice. i can do this chord and the previous chord
I actually really like the F CHORD. I'm liking the way it sounds so far. I'm finding it easier to use my ring finger instead of the middle finger to get the sound of the G string out but I've been doing it with the middle finger and both are becoming adaptable either way. Thank you for this beginner friendly content
Hey Marty! I'm only 11, and I've been playing for about 4 months, and I'm self taught. I've been learning songs, and I finally want to play hallelujah. So, I have been avoiding the F chord like, thats way too hard. But I've only seen it as a bar chord until now, so thx!
Took me a while to understand the placement of my fingers for the F chord. Had to replay that segment of the video over and over till I understood what he was saying. Not sure I'm capable of muting both E strings at the same time and play the chord but I'll keep trying. Can't believe I've gotten this far.
Hey guys, I'm just revisiting the videos I learned to play the guitar with 2 years ago. I was struggling with the F chord as well, but my tip to you is: play it as a barred chord (index finger barring all of the strings on the first fret, ringfinger a string 3rd fret, pinky d string 3rd fret and middle finger g string 2nd fret). It's way easier to play it like this, plus you get the F bass note on the low E string. Additionally, if you've come this far, you should really get into learning barred chords, as it is one shape you can move around all over the fretboard. Cheers and good luck
Enjoy your videos a lot. You review and reinforce just right things. Some day I would like to see you explain how you lift your fingers off the strings for strumming technique.
I'm soo sorry Marty! I watched this video once and I just couldn't figure it out so I left you for two days watching other beginner lessons on F Major with a bar. I was having a horrible time. So, today I thought that I would check out your video again. Wow!!!! So much easier. I made the sound and I'm on my way. I will definitely be spending more time on this chord than any of the others. I'm sorry that I left you. I won't do it again.
I enjoyed this lesson on using the F chord!!! I always had trouble with the other ways I was shown to play the F chord. This lesson really makes it seem more simple than I had thought!! Thanks Marty!!
I've been watching a lot of your videos, love them, and also looking at a lot of tabs/ chord charts. I've been saying to myself eff the F chord. I hit a wall abs wasn't sure what to practice when I found this. My F still sounds bad but I'm not intimidated anymore.
Marty, thank you so much for teaching us beginners. I came across your lessons from my brother, and I'm learning so much from you now, thank you from an Irish fan.
Guess I'm the only student beginning in this few weeks, I'm in for the long haul though. I even bought an electric guitar a week ago, but I practice using an acoustic until I can get an amp. Thanks so Much Marty, I'll be glad when I'm able to move my chording fingers to play chords and embellishments at the same time. It's coming in time. Once again thanks Marty
I love and appreciate your videos marty. may i make a suggestion for a review video of all the beginner chords? something that i can watch quickly to go through all the 7 chords in the beginners section?
Haven't played in years and kinda of dabbled in guitar before. Just smashed out the first load of lessons and love the structure of your teaching! Great going and thanks!!
I received my first guitar yesterday and found these videos to be super helpful. I now know have learned what these cords mean. I have started to play some tunes as I play and pause. Thanks for the easy to follow.
i find this chord so easy and love the sound. I thought it would be the F barre chord cos of the comments. if you are struggling, just keep practicing and you will get there! :))
Marty I don’t know if you will se this but I took lessons for 2 months and hated it cause I was learning things like Mary had a little lamb and wasn’t making any progress so I quit. And just 4 days ago I watched your fist lesion and I’m already almost at the end in 4 days I made more progress than in 2 months thanks to u I can already switch between all the chords in 4 days so thank u so much u really help me enjoy guitar
Dang, youre tight. Nothing to it but to do it! I caught a glimpse of the F last week and had been scared to watch this video since then, jajaja. As many others said, its definitely easier to grasp when coming from the C. Way less intimidating! Thanks for another great lesson, Marty! Now I can try those songs I avoided last week 😅
I started learning to play about 2 months ago just learning chords then a little strumming and just last week I started playing a John Denver song. It sounded crappy getting from one chord to the other was like the sound of silence while I went looking for the next chord but I kept practicing every day for 10 minutes on the harder to get to chords and did about 3 10 minute practice sessions for a few days and on the third day it was like a miracle had happened until I got to the F chord lol the only one in the piece but crucial. So I him hawed for a few days looking for an easy F because I couldn't do the barre chord not even the mini barre chord so I came here and saw this one Marty is doing and holy smokes it was a revelation because of the C chord my fingers were already stretched and used to that chord I was able to this F chord. So don't give up~~~~ Do what Marty tells you and if you practice just 15 minutes a day one day very soon you'll have that aha moment.
When I started the video, I thought he was going to show the F barre based on the comments complaining, but its not that bad, I think A Maj is harder... And my finger are kinda thin!
I never ever joined any classes ... i thank you for teaching me guitar... i bpught new guitar .. and you are the best .. th ks you for everything... from Happy from india
Thanks Marty! I’m really enjoying the lessons! Total rookie here. My fingers are getting calluses and it’s starting to make some sense. Any books you recommend to supplement the lessons? Thanks again. On to lesson 7!!
I have to say you're lessons hadv been fantastic for me. This is my third attempt at trying to learn the guitar & the way you have set up your lessons makes it easy & interesting. It's been years but my muscle memory from previous times has made it easier to progress a little faster. Going to try a few songs. Thanks.
When he said we’ll visit barre chords at some other time, I was ecstatic. I’ve been struggling with F & Bmin so bad. I still want to get them barre chords, but damn! Wgat a relief
Hey Marty! Thanks a lot for these videos! I bought my first ever guitar literally 4 days ago and now i can make pretty cool music already! I didn't even know how to hold a guitar then and now m so confident that i started my channel for my guitar progress (m not trying to promote anything with this comment). In fact i mentioned your channel in the video and in description too😁. Thanks for these helpful videos😁 I hope you read this😅
I`ve learned the F by holding the E and B 1st fret with the index finger., and the middle finger on the G 2nd fret, and then the ring finger on the D 3rd fret
Whew! This one is tough! I think for me it’s going to take practicing to build up the muscle strength in my fingers, especially my pinky. Question: if we strike from the A string down instead of the low E, is that the same as muting the low E string with your thumb? On an encouraging note, I think practicing this one is making the others MUCH easier. I was really struggling with the D chord, and now it feels so much easier. Not perfect, but getting there.
Am here to say a big thank you Mr Marty for this easy and quick tip to learn guitar from your chanel it's just a week now and am amaze how easy Guitar can be play through your simple techniques....Mr Marty you are the best....I Recommend you for the world...👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
PLAYING GUITAR IS HARD!!!!! These series would be so much easier if you would just admit that!!!!! I down loaded that book and it says at the beginning. It makes me think there is something wrong with me when I find differently. I have been critical on a couple of occasions. It's not to be negative. I appreciate what you do here. Hell it's lesson 7 and I'm still here. I pick up the guitar six or 7 times a day, many times throwing it down on the bed in frustration. If at the end of the day I can get that chord one time I consider it a success.like I said it's hard. Looking at the other comments I think I'm not the only one
Not able to mute the E chord. That sucks. I'm glad you taught C before this, because after the initial reluctance of watching the video, I realize it's pretty easy to get the fingers in the right position. I'll probably have to practice this for a week.
With these chords i have learned wish you were and knocking on heavens door with some help of an app i can play the song all thanks to you and this is under 3 days! Much thanks
It's funny how the first lesson had 4 million views and this lesson has almost 300,000 views. Just shows how many people gave up too early. Congrats on making it here everyone, keep going and trying to improve.

You are so, SOOO good Marty, thank you for keeping me motivated and making it fun to learn!
Thank you for taking the time to teach all this! Definitely making the learning process more enjoyable!
Thank you for all the videos man, I’m learning guitar by watching your videos and I like it a lot.
3:36 i always tried avoiding that and i finally mastered it and now i have to do it again xD
I LOVE THIS SERIES
I wanted to break my guitar you make it look Easier because you used to it
When I started the video, I thought he was going to show the F barre based on the comments complaining, but its not that bad, I think A Maj is harder... And my finger are kinda thin!
I never ever joined any classes ... i thank you for teaching me guitar... i bpught new guitar .. and you are the best .. th ks you for everything... from Happy from india
Raise the roof 🙌🏾 if you made it this far!
Ur a good man thanks for making so many free available content for everyone marty wishing u the best
Thanks.
third weeh ,aint easy😀lol
When he said we’ll visit barre chords at some other time, I was ecstatic. I’ve been struggling with F & Bmin so bad. I still want to get them barre chords, but damn! Wgat a relief
Hey Marty!
Thanks a lot for these videos!
I bought my first ever guitar literally 4 days ago and now i can make pretty cool music already!
I didn't even know how to hold a guitar then and now m so confident that i started my channel for my guitar progress (m not trying to promote anything with this comment).
In fact i mentioned your channel in the video and in description too😁.
Thanks for these helpful videos😁
I hope you read this😅
I`ve learned the F by holding the E and B 1st fret with the index finger., and the middle finger on the G 2nd fret, and then the ring finger on the D 3rd fret
Thank you SO MUCH omg I have finally picked up the guitar and made so much progress from your videos!!!
Is it me or when you have small hands you actually can't mute the E chord with your thumb?
just not going to happen!
Same!
Same :(
The F chord is why I put the guitar down for 5 years and I’m ready to do it again.😩
I’m glad I’m not the only one coming back after 5 years 😅
Thanks Marty. This shape is better for the beginner and for changing from the C than the barring the B and E string with the index finger.
Forgot the freeze spray!!! 😂😂
thanks for the lesson....your videos are really helpful !
Looking at the other comments I think I'm not the only one
wow I have struggled with that f ing f chord but watching this I think I have finally got it .thanks its going to open a lot more songs for me.
As a beginner for me
Perfect practice makes me perfect Helpful video dude 👍👍👍👍
Not able to mute the E chord. That sucks. I'm glad you taught C before this, because after the initial reluctance of watching the video, I realize it's pretty easy to get the fingers in the right position. I'll probably have to practice this for a week.
With these chords i have learned wish you were and knocking on heavens door with some help of an app i can play the song all thanks to you and this is under 3 days! Much thanks
Totally in love with this beginner‘s lesson!
Learning is so fun with you.🎵🎸 making music🎶
Having trouble with it but as soon as it comes out right - man! I love the sound of this chord. Thanks, Marty!
Wow I’m glad i read the other comments, before deciding i was useless at this. F is a massive test of patience
i love how he was playing the song i want to play so i looked up the chords :D (i think it’s the beatles - let it be)
This one is a finger and brain scrambler for me Marty. I best start over.
