thank you for sharing you hit it right on we’ve been in business for 50 years No one understands what we go through family friends missing out on many gatherings, but this is what we do. Thanks.
Dude. This was eye-opening and makes me appreciate my local restaurants all the more. I guess one of the motivators is that you have to love it, huh? Good on you, dude!
Born into the restaurant industry myself. Now a proud owner 3 year old restaurant. I feel tired and burnt out but I have so much more in the tank. It’s not meant for a lot of people but I actually enjoy it at times. Mix emotions but I know I’m meant for this grind. Just opened my second shop!!!
So so true, even though we don’t own restaurants anymore, we do serve 950 Chinese restaurants; the toll, the grinding, many see their restaurants as the only option of survival, feeling enslaved to it.
So incredibly true. It's an uphill battle each and every day, shift, plate or glass. But one that is full of so many great moments and amazing people. Cheers!
Appreciate the transparency. I usually tell people I like- unless they’re passionate about F&B, don’t do it. People I don’t care for- I tell them “good luck” :)
Thanks for sharing your perspective! I’ll be buying a local restaurant in less than a month and I’m so scared of some of those things you mentioned, but I’m very excited for the other positive things you mentioned!
Thank you ❤️ for this insight as we on the journey on opening our 50's diner and like you I've been in the business for over 35 years and this will be new to me
The restaurant game is insane. The work you guys put in. 😱 This is a really insightful video. Side note - the shots you have got in here are so beautiful. The fire shot and the cocktail! Love!!! How are you doing allllll this work and making a daily vlog? Are you even sleeping?!
Recently I was looking in to opening a ghost kitchen. At the end of the day I have learned that you still have to work 80 hours/week to make a decent living wage. Its a lot of work and in food industry you have to love what you are doing as a business owner. Thank you for your honesty! 👍 Cheers.
I appreciate this very much, I have started my own food business after being in the industry for almost the last decade and this is such a good piece of relevant information. Cheers!
I hear you brother. I owned my own IT services businesses for a total of 17 years before I moved to the vendor side. I will go back and work for myself again at some point though.
As a chef myself. To be owner and operator you must be built different and be able to handle the demand. If you thrive on high demand and can excel in the chaos one will succeed.
Been running my restaurant for over 3 years and I’m right along with you ! Having my first child in January and my manager put in her two weeks this week. It’s tough and it’s not for the week. My contract is up with option to extend another 5 years I’m 1.5 years and I’m not sure what I want . Anyways I hear you ❤
I have my restaurant in jamaica 🇯🇲 and I’m about open a additional part and I’m telling all the hardships he talked about is true don’t get into it unless you are ready for some major sacrifice. But I don’t know something keeps me pushing maybe I’m crazy
The sacrifices are kind of like our military families, i was away a lot when my kids were young. Good news Kosta’s the hard work WILL pay off and one day you’ll reap the rewards with less sacrifice. God Bless….
Cops…truckers…chefs…all pretty much the same. I am still young and confused. Think sales is a decent option. Even if one doesn’t make a fortune, salesmen don’t have such miserable life. Yeah they have their ups and downs but comparatively it’s much much smarter choice, at of the day apart from all the passion bs people believe in mans just gotta work to make enough money to live comfortably.
Mom and Pop shops are a dying breed because of these reasons. On the flip side why do chain restaurants excel when they have all the same problems? Its called systems, most locally owned restaurants don't know how to build and implement the right systems. This guy needs to remove himself from the business and look at opening a couple more locations, the profits generated from 3 locations vs 1 will give him the stability he needs and remove a lot of stress. Only the right systems will allow him to do this (it takes a ton more work). I've been there, I know how hard it is, I left the industry after being burnt out, but I learned from it, came back proved the system works and never looked back. Good luck to you Kostas!
Big chains work because they are funded by big banks who throw vast amounts of money at them. First reason is to crush the mom and pop stores. Secondly, no matter how many big chain locations fail, they will never go bankrupt because the banks will throw money at them to keep the system going. How many mon and pop businesses are capable of doing that? Dennys restaurant has not turned a profit for more than 10 years, and they have hundreds of locations. You can't tell me the investors are broke and doing it as a charity service.
Lean on me….when your not strong……….and I’ll be your friend…….I’ll help you carry on……for it won’t be long til I’m gunna need…..somebody to lean on :) :) :) I think that’s how it goes not sure but love the vlogs and LOVE YALL BROTHA😇🦋🐳the grind is real no doubt but to much is given MUCH is required and God has given you SOOO many gifts 😎💡⏳thanks for always doing more then expected
It can get better once you create policies and procedures and can generate enough money to pay for management but yeah at the end of the day the buck stops with you.

Thanx Cris! The highs are cloud 9 but the lows can destroy our. I’m sure the music industry faces some of the same effects.

Great story, Kostas.
Gotta keep it real sometimes!
Restaurant business is one of the toughest business to run
It's a great video, bro. Your hard work will pay off eventually.🙏 Kudos to you, Kostas! Keep going. 👊💯

Owning a business is like a 3rd member in the marraige that you cant take a break from.
So freaking true. It occupies my mind 24/7

Geez I’m just taking a second to actually respond. Know I read these as soon as they are posted🤩🤩
Wow that sucks bad for you. Guess being the owner kinda puts you in a no win situation.
You are basically married to the business
