Helga is a flawed person with a beautiful soul. She reunited a man with a daughter he thought lost forever, just to make Arnold's Christmas. An absolutely radiant human being.
Don’t tell that to the long winded Christian spam comment I just saw on another hey Arnold video. If you aren’t obsessed with following the Ten Commandments to a tee, you’re a bad person apparently
That was a great video essay! I've always liked Helga's character on Hey Arnold because she was so complex. On the outside she was mean and violent, but on the inside she was insecure and felt unloved. It was sad to see her try to hide her feelings from those around her - Arnold, her parents, even Phoebe. I've always thought Helga had some kind of Psychological disorder. I was actually thinking about Anti-Social Personality Disorder, but when you explained Oppositional Defiant Disorder (which I hadn't heard of before) it sounded like Helga to me!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked the video! I feel like a lot of people think of Helga having anti-social personality disorder because others like oppositional defiant disorder aren't talked about as much.
This is spot on. She can be diagnosed with these as children. But she is also one who has potential to rise above some of this if she is given a healthier environment. I think about the episode with the nanny, helga on the couch, and the jungle movie. When she is alway from her dysfunctional home, she is much more kind.! It seems that she can treat others kind when she is treated kind by them and away from her toxic environment .
I was too young to realize how sick in head Helga was. She was OBSESSED with Arnold. Thought about him every minute of the day. Saw his image in everything. Stalked him, made shrines, wrote poems about him, has a video library of him ect. Glad she getting help.
I notice you like anime. Maybe you can do Taiga from Toradora. She’s similar to Helga. For another older cartoon, there is a show called Recess, and there is a character named Spunelli. She is also similar to Helga and I love this character. That would make a good analysis. If we’re talking another Hey Arnold character… it would be interesting to see Arnold maybe. Kind of dive into what makes him such a people pleaser, or always need to make things right.
Puberty is not a mental disorder, and her parents do suck, but they were typical of parents of that time, it dosent make her actions right, but she seems to be pretty balanced considering her upbringing, she could have turned out much worse
The reason Helga is so angry is because she has a messed up home life The reason she is a bully is because deep down she is a scared yet sweet little girl and doesn't want to be hurt by a cruel world The resons she is mean to Arnold is because she is the greatest Tsundere to ever live
@@Savaster911 I'm glad they did a final movie and finally rounded out her character. Fun fact. Originally they were going to do a sequel series called the Pataki's where Helga was older and had to navigate life without Arnold but they scrapped it as it was too similar to Daria. However the creator has stated that it is both her and Arnold's destiny to grow up and eventually have children together
I used to _hate_ Helga as a character, but her development won me over, and now she's my favorite. ...and to see Arnold finally...wait a minute. That's a spoiler. I'll be quiet now.
Seeing a child psychologist probably saved Helga from a LOT of trouble as a teen/adult. Toxic families like hers are God awful for a child's mental health.
Helga called herself a psychotic freak in Summer Love... because she pretty much was. Helga does the whole " hurt people hurt people" thing, which is sympathetic on one side, but it's inexcusable in the end. Helga hid her love from Arnold because the thought of confessing how she felt would have been too humiliating, embarrassing or ruin her life. However, it was perfectly fine for her to do to Arnold what she wouldn't want to experience. Yeah, Helga would repent and regret her actions, but repentance comes with refraining from said actions. Thankfully, Craig Bartlett already said that Arnold and Helga are soulmates, but in the end...verbal abuse and bullying is inexcusable no matter what's happening in your personal life.
This video actually outlines why they could never make an "All Grown Up" equivalent similar to what Rugrats had. Continuing the same character arcs, Helga would end up hurting Arnold immensely. ODD as a diagnosis in kids is a precursor to borderline personality disorder in teens and adults. She would become Arnold's Amber Heard equivalent and a lot of the show would revolve around her emotionally abusing Arnold. It would be too dark for a cartoon or any sort of reboot.
to the author, Ate A Movie= can you PLEASE try your hand about doing one of these... about Tootie from "Fairly-Odd Parents"? as you might already be aware, her highly obssessive behavior towards Timmy most likely stems from living in the almost literal HELL she calls a home: a sociopath older sister, parents that have grown too afraid of her to try anything about it, not having fairy godparents despite being far more deserving of them due to her misery... but there might be other things that make her who and what she is, but despite that has the will to not become like her sister before her! you think she might be a worthy enough case-study?
Hlega has being neglected even tho she has money comes from it and 2 parents they don't care about her just a image of her.ahen Arnold may be broke but has a strong family thats helps him and love him and I feel like she just lashing out
If Arnold was the one spying on Helga and doing the altars and breaking into her house without permission he would bully her that would be harassment and a reason for a restraining order let's be honest we would see him as a disgusting pervert But since the stalker is a girl, then we don't believe that what she does is bad and sick I clarify that this is a personal opinion if you like the character it's fine
Helga is a flawed person with a beautiful soul. She reunited a man with a daughter he thought lost forever, just to make Arnold's Christmas. An absolutely radiant human being.
Helga is the most relatable character ever. She shows that not everyone is perfect, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t deserve happiness
Exactly!
Don’t tell that to the long winded Christian spam comment I just saw on another hey Arnold video. If you aren’t obsessed with following the Ten Commandments to a tee, you’re a bad person apparently
She was such a complex character.
I find myself in Helga.
Great way to dissect her actions and behavior.
Thank you!

Thank God Helga came across Dr.Bliss! She really needed someone to talk to, not to mention that episode really de-stigmatized therapy
There's one major problem with that: Dr. Bliss never called the authorities on Helga's parents after being told of her negligence.

Helga On the Couch is my all time favorite episode. I wish there was a Hey Arnold reboot only this time Arnold and his friends are adults.
I have been desperately wanting someone to do a psychological analysis on Helga so THANK YOU
you have anyone else you want to see?

Before you knew anime Tsundere you knew Helga
When the lemons turned into Arnold's head 😂😂😂
Helga was the first Tsundere character I’ve been introduce to has a kid
When the youtube is actually appealing and clicking on it pays off
Puberty is not a mental disorder, and her parents do suck, but they were typical of parents of that time, it dosent make her actions right, but she seems to be pretty balanced considering her upbringing, she could have turned out much worse
Yeah she's honestly doing pretty good considering what life gave her
The reason Helga is so angry is because she has a messed up home life
The reason she is a bully is because deep down she is a scared yet sweet little girl and doesn't want to be hurt by a cruel world
The resons she is mean to Arnold is because she is the greatest Tsundere to ever live
God her backstory is just really sad 😔 once you learn why she’s like this. I hope all children in a similar situation like Helga get help

Good analysis. Thank you! I love Helga 🎀
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you liked it!

I like your profile picture!
We can see that🤪
Hey Arnolds was one of my favorites. As an adult I see so many simulates between Helga and me as a child i didnt understand back then.
This is an amazing video! Super interesting
Well made essay.
Thank you!

Fantastic video man!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome video, this was an ad I can get behind
Thank you, I'm glad you like it.
I like Helga, even with all her quirks
myyy helga🥺😩 ahhh thank u for this video absolutely amazing
Of course!!
I really like how complex her character is, but her obsession with Arnold is easily her most annoying trait imho. Great work.
6:13 omg those jars "Arnold's tshirt" "Arnold's sandwich" "Arnold's toe nails" How the hell did she get his toe nails...and why? 😂
Great video man please if you can make more😃
Definitely there's more to come!

You neglected to mention Helga's attraction for criminality.

nice job
Thank you senpai
I can't believe I'm saying this but Thank you for understanding me! .
1:12 was that on purpose?🤨
Nah 😅. Looks creepy af now that I’m seeing it lol
felt bad for Helga especially Helga on the couch she was almost nice in preschool before she was teased for liking arnold
She couldn’t afford to be vulnerable because she had no one to look out for her so yeah.
@@Spiritofeowyn well that's still my point about she had it rough she sometimes had to act like an adult at age 9 because of her parents
Im her 😬
honestly, I see myself in parts of her too lol
Me too!
Same
Same
That is me.
if lemons were still 10cents that'd be pog
feels bad for helga and all the other 'helgas' out there.
Any chance of going for psychology regarding Rei Togetsu on D4DJ?
Yeah Possibly. I’ll have to watch D4DJ first 😅
@@ateamovie7137 I see.

Yea she is
Why does it matter?
@@luxxrayy this generation would describe them as “transitioning”
@NostalgiaCriticAnim1 No, we'd say she's expressing herself the way she wants. That's it.
There was nothing wrong with Helga
I'm not saying there was I was just discussing things that led to how she is
Thank you for understanding me! .
Is it me or Helga is being boyish?
