- A procession took place Friday night for a Riverside County Sheriff's deputy who was shot and killed in the line of duty.
"We are devastated to announce the passing of Deputy Darnell Calhoun who was killed in the line of duty this afternoon," said the sheriff's department.
"I shouldn’t be here tonight, having to do this again," said Sheriff Chad Bianco at a Friday night press conference. "I am devastated to tell of the loss of another one of our deputy sheriffs who was killed in the line of duty.”

Two Deputies here in Riverside County this needs to stop one Killed December 29th and now this Deputy was killed today January 14. May both of them Rest In Peace.

How many times have they protected you?
This happened inside of my residential neighborhood. He just helped my family a week or so ago about a call we made and did what he could to help us feel more secure in our neighborhood. The same one that killed him a week later. This is so heartbreaking.
He was still a bad person and deserved what happened to him.

So sad. We were on the 15S when all the officers were rushing to the scene. We saw 2 motorcycle police on the 15N with a vehicle inbetween and now I realize we were seeing the procession of the hearse to the coroner's. RIP Deputy Calhoun. Prayers to his family, especially his poor pregnant wife. I can only imagine.

To them I say, Stay Frosty, never let up in your pursuit of justice or the protection of your community, to the family of the slain deputy, words cannot express my sorrow for your loss and may he rest in peace, and the perpetual light shine upon him. There’s no way only one officer should respond to a domestic disturbance call. Wait for backup unless an assault is in progress. That’s how I feel. My friend Kurt Logan with LAPD in a 1 man unit responded to a domestic where the suspect already assaulted the mother in law with a knife so officer Logan entered the house and was confronted with a man with a knife. He came forward towards the officer so officer Logan put one in the suspect. Hitting him in the shoulder area. Then back up arrived. The suspect recovered and was charged.
I understand your point that’s easier said then done though I think it involved children as well which makes the situation tougher

BTW, I'm very disappointed in KTLA and the rest of the news outlets who were flying overhead for not following the procession out of respect for first responders who weren't able to be a part of the procession. My co-workers and I were extremely saddened.
There was a big difference in the coverage for this deputy and our deputy who passed away two weeks ago. It makes no sense to me 😭
