Riverside County Sheriff provides more details on deputy killed in Lake Elsinore shooting

- A Riverside County Sheriff's Deputy who was shot in Lake Elsinore on Friday has died from his injuries, authorities confirm.
The shooting occurred shortly before 5 p.m. in the 18500 block of Hilldale Lane, a residential area.
"We are devastated to announce the passing of Deputy Darnell Calhoun who was killed in the line of duty this afternoon," said the sheriff's department.
"I shouldn’t be here tonight, having to do this again," said Deputy Chad Bianco at a Friday night press conference. "I am devastated to tell of the loss of another one of our deputy sheriffs who was killed in the line of duty.”

The Sheriff Chad Bianco brings it to the point. There is definitely a generation of people with no respect loaded with a lot of rage and on top those freaks own guns. So de-escalation will be always difficult and the job as law enforcement member always on high risk because you never know how these freaks react. Wish all a good life, love and peace

I work by the Harvest church in Riverside and sadly I've seen far too many law enforcement funerals there. Truly sad! 🙏🏽

@@chrisarey well Chris thats a very valid point and I agree, the difference is this gentlemen worked for Chad Bianco. It's his job and duty to speak on their behalf. If and when this kind of thing happens to civilians and its in a line of duty that they work in most the time their superiors typically speak on their behalf as well. Thats just the way it works and it should be that way. Most the time us civilians aren't waking up and putting on a uniform that could cost us our lives daily in the way that Calhoun does. These men and women most of them at least are doing a service to the community in hopes to make things better and we should respect them alot more. It starts with us. We all need to respectful of eachother or this will keep being a vicious cycle of hatred.

I was at Deputy Corderos funeral 10 days ago. This is ridiculous and has to stop... We need law and order in society. This deputy was simply answering a call for help to protect the vulnerable and he paid for it with his life. I don't care how you feel about police or what hatred you have been programmed to feel towards them. Just know that they don't hate you and each and everyone of them will risk their lives to help you and yours. You can be part of the problem or part of the solution, these deputies were definately part of the solution and have given their lives for all of you to be safe behind your keyboards. RIP

My heart breaks for Chad Bianco, you can just see how much guilt he’s feeling for not being able to uphold what he told Deputy Calhouns mother who I’m sure is not holding it against you. This was a senseless tragedy that never should have happened! There are just people in this world that don’t respect human life and no one is responsible, except the man who pulled that trigger. My deepest sympathies go out to everyone that loved and cared about Deputy Calhoun and may you all comfort each other in your time of mourning. This isn’t in LA. Lake Elsinore is a smaller town south of LA. It’s about 1.5-2 hours north of San Diego.

Why doesnt the riverside sheriff hold a press conference explaining how the 20 inmates died in custody in the last year and all before sentencing. Maybe thats why most of our community have zero respect for law enforcement. This deputy's family is shattered and now his child will be without a father , however so will our deceased community members whom some may have been innocent, their families are also shattered. Every man is created equal! I am thankful for our law enforcement sacrifice but 20 people dying in custody and attempts to keep the deaths quite and away from our federal government shows no respect for our riverside community.
