Ichigo's inner Hollow asks if Ichigo knows the difference between a king and his horse. If there are two beings with the same appearance, ability, and power, one becomes the king and the other becomes the horse. The reason for this is simple: instinct. The person who becomes king needs to want to fight, to want power, and to mercilessly crush his enemies. Ichigo's Hollow side accuses him of using reason to fight and feels that Ichigo cannot hurt anyone if his sword is still in its sheath. Claiming that this is why Ichigo is weaker, the inner Hollow throws his Zangetsu into Ichigo's abdomen. Ichigo's inner Hollow says that he will not let a king weaker than him ride on top of him, and since Ichigo is weaker, the Hollow is going to destroy him to become the king

🔹About Hollow Ichigo:
Zangetsu (斬月, Slaying Moon) is the manifested spirit of Ichigo Kurosaki's Zanpakutō as well as his inner Hollow. He has been variously called Hollow Ichigo (虚 (ホロウ) 一護, Horō Ichigo), more properly called The Hollow within Ichigo (一護の内面 (ないめん) の虚 (ホロウ), Ichigo no naimen no Horō) or White Ichigo (白一護, Shiro Ichigo).
Zangetsu is the result of the fusion between the Hollow White Ichigo inherited from his mother and the Shinigami powers he inherited from his father. He has stated himself to represent Ichigo's purest instincts.

There’s only one answer INSTINCT!”
“In order for identical beings to get stronger and gain power, they need to develop a killer instinct, and that instinct is mostly forged in battle!”
“They must develop an insatiable hunger to engage in battle; they must live to mercilessly crush, shred and slice their enemies, this thirst for power is not a unnatural desire, in fact it forms the very essence of our beings; deep within our body lies the whole instinct to dominate and slaughter our enemies. The initial condition or the first action is "getting more power" : if you are weak af and then think that by fighting someone stronger than you will help you get stronger, just ask a punch bag how it feels to be hit for fun (basically, you will be beat up. If your body is weak, you will suffer serious consequences)
So at the starting, you do two things:
1. Get a basic level of power
2. Find a "partner" (sparring or fighting partner) who is at your level
Then when you fight, you realise your weaknesses and then gain more power (to compensate for that weakness) and fight someone again.
Fighting someone is a quality assurance check, gaining more power is an upgradation. Hope it makes sense.

Exactly. Hes not the only zanpakuto to have shown this. For the brief moment we've seen Zabimaru in canon, they ridiculed Renji for having a moment of weakness and urged him to move his ass and fight.
Honestly the reveal for White seems so obvious when you look back on it.

Old zangetsu be quincy and hollow is shinigami so technically white should have been summoned and ichigo should only have his old zanpakuto blade and quincy spirit pressure.
@Hayabusa the spartan yeah. As for kenpachi and yachiru, it took me awhile to realize why she didn’t rebel. It is because she has no misgivings or frustrations against Kenpachi in the first place, they already had an incredibly strong bond so she didn’t rebel because Kenpachi already treated her with respect and like a daughter. Honestly the Zanpakuto rebellion arc is amazing foreshadowing if you think about it

Every time we see White Zangetsu, there was always hints he was the zanpakuto. Not him blatantly calling himself Zangetsu, but the fact that every time we see him, he is teaching Ichigo something or saving his life. He is always a mentor and a guardian, but his personality makes him seem like an antagonist. Fucking love him and I hate that I never guessed he may actually be a zanpakuto before I found out from the manga.
It’s almost poetic because Ichigo is much like him even if he doesn’t want to admit it. White is basically Ichigo’s desire to fight the feeling he likes to suppress. Kenpachi even pointed that out to him that he like to fight just as much as he does. That’s why I think Kubo did an amazing job portraying white as his “killer instinct” if you will because Ichigo love to fight but doesn’t choose it like kenpachi or Grimmjow because he fights to protect the ones he loves. That’s why I feel like he is depicted as the antagonist for a bit because white is basically Ichigo’s fighting side the one that always tell him to fight with everything he’s got. These 2 contradict each other for those reasons. But when all is said and done they’re one In the same. Master and Zanpakto or in this case a King and his Horse!

Ichigo accepting to fight Grimmjow instead of running with Inoue = Get closer to his instinct that allow him to wear his mask longer

@Hayabusa the spartan Kenpachi is holding himself by scaling his power relative to his opponent. White interfering at the last moment to 1 shot Kenpachi was the only way to beat him. I really like how kubo was subtle but my younger self was too dumb to catch it.

This speech is actually the biggest clue on what the speaker is. He is a representation of the soul, knowing all the secrets it contains. He knows Ichigo's instincts to do battle exist, because they exist within him and him trying to ask Ichigo, by pressing hard on "Form, ability and power" being the puzzling part. He knows that Ichigo should be stronger as long as he retains his instinct to dominate himself and move forward. Even his motive is made clear, he wants to continue existing, that is his instinct, to make sure Ichigo survives, even if it means taking away his freewill and body.
and keep in mind, Ichigo is the same guy who in the earliest chapters/episodes, was basically Gatsu from Berserk. We have a 2episode-saga about a Hollow who chases a parrot(with the soul of a kid) and kills everyone who tries to protect the parrot, Ichigo got so mad, that grabbed this hollow's explosive-frogs with his own hands, shoved them back inside the mouth of the hollow(while still holding those frogs), let them explode and then rip out the hollow's tongue(which is the detonator of those bombs) with the very same hand.
Or we wanna talk about Ichigo vs Fisher, the very same hollow that killed his mom(who was protecting Ichigo, from Fisher itself), because baby-ichigo fell for that hollow's bait(back then he couldn't tell the difference between ghosts, hollow and didn't understand that he could see spiritual beings), and this led to a fight in the very same graveyard where Ichigo's mom is buried, fighting while his spiritual-guts are literally smeared on the ground, and he still keeps fighting, he still keeps screaming and yelling like a wild beast, in a very similar way to Zangetsu/White-Ichigo.
I miss that version of ichigo so bad.

It's not that he "knows" that " Ichigo should be stronger as long as he retains his instinct to dominate himself and move forward." in the way that you say it here at all. It's more like he's saying if Ichigo can't be strong enough to dominate over others instinctively, he's just going to take control of ichigo's body and be the "king" himself, if ichigo is too weak to do so himself.
Hollow Ichigo IS trying to teach Ichgio a lesson but if ichigo can't learn, he's just going to push Ichigo to the side and have full control himself since if ichigo dies, the inner follow dies as well so they have to make it clear whose in charge to make all the decisions to make sure they survive. And one entity is clearly not tolerating another entity being weaker than he is if it means they're both going to get killed.

They're both "Zangetsu", 2 halves of the same coin or atleast in the context of this fight, he essentially talks about how whichever one of them is stronger, is the one in control of his inner world and holds the title of "Zangetsu".

White literally says this in the same chapter where he's all like "I'm Zangetsu" but honestly, ppl focus too much on the quote and forget the rest of the chapter. They're both parts his power, quincy or not, even after the reveal, Ichigo is still like "I'm sure you're both Zangetsu", you even see both of them standing behind him with the newly forged, as Oetsu put, "those Zangetu's", its all a huge symbolic part in its design.

I heard this speech years ago and ive only really realized what it meant a few years ago when i went to therapy. My life issues were so bad, it felt like a part of me was taking control. Some nasty ho pushed my buttons in just the right way and i started screaming at her. The thing is, i NEVER do that. That was the first in the 29 years ive been alive. The instant after it happened, i recalled my therapist telling me 'if im attacked in an area thats sensitive, a part of me would lash out to protect me.' I scoffed at this because i had never done that. I was wrong. Then later i remembered when ichigo fought byakuga and i put two and two together. Hollow ichigo took over and started crushing byakuga. He really was trying to protect ichigo in his berserking madness like the part of me that was trying to protect me.
I really believe this speech to be real like my therapists words. If you let your problems pile up, your mind may act out to protect you. Even against your own will. Keep you life in order/ be strong and you can keep the pieces of your self from trying to take your crown. Stay in charge of you. YOU. ARE. THE. KING.

We're prolly in the same boat as far as physical instances that is. I too at times lost my self control more than once. Took me years to understand and regain mastery of my so called "other self". I've watched bleach way back during my early days of recovery and must have unnoticed this line which I now later on understand is quite enlightening. Now who says we don't get any lessons off animé or cartoons...well dunno bout them but I did on Bleach 😂😂😂
I'm a frequent procrastinator and have been through some intense situations but never this. When things get stressful and I see the outcome can't be changed, I just stop caring. I always try to be reasonable and logical.

Honestly, these Times, i feel....weird. To put it simply, i am a martial artist. I have two sensei/ teacher. One of them, is your typical kind, and mercifull teacher. He tell me that the essence of martial arts is to protect yourself, and your loved ones.
While the other one, is....strong and love to fight. He insist, that to know how to protect yourself, first you must know how to fight. So....just start a fight, and let your instict take it.
Now, now....these Times...when i get in a fight ( like from delinquent or thugs) it's been harder for me to hold myself from beating too hard. It's like.... there's a person in my head, on the back, that laugh at me and tell me to show no mercy..

To be fair, I think zangetsu was fine with how ichigo handled the fight with ulqiorra up to that point. Ichigo was just outclassed because he didn't have the full experience needed to draw out zangetsu's hollow side.
White simply told him at the end: don't die before I show up again.
Ichigo sought out the second part of the fight with ulquiorra when he should've ran. Or, as is the better instinct: force ulqiorra to come to him to fight. With ulqiorra's rigid logic, he would've never gone segunda etapa inside of Las noches and ichigo would've won.
I think if ixhigo had yet more experience with the hollow side, he would've been able to draw out more of zangetsu's hollow power

The hindsight of knowing that he's the Zanpakuto Spirit and the Old Man isn't just makes Johnny's performance here even better. The way he said Zangetsu as White there when referring to Old Man Zangetsu now sounds like he's putting quotation marks around it.

Well, in his defense, he thought Zangetsu was just a hollow out to take over his body and rampage. I mean, who would have thought that a Zanpakuto could ALSO be one's inner hollow? That was unheard of even among the visoreds.
@@evanminton8315 It's because Visoreds were infused with Hollow powers whereas Ichigo inherited a hollow from his mother .White is already a part of Ichigo's soul , so he becoming Ichigo's Zankapukto wasn't surprising . If Ichigo knew the truth about himself being a half-everything,he would have treated white like a part of himself .
@@sahilmore9948 Well, yeah, but we didn't know that prior to the Thousand Year Blood War Arc. I actually was lead to believe that Ichigo's inner hollow came to being as a result of partial hollowfication during Urahara's training. He was able to get his soul reaper powers, so the mask that was forming after the chain of maggots disappeared didn't fully form.
But now I know that White was there long before that.
Hindsight is 20/20.
Arguably, blame the Ywbach that lives in Ichigo's soul. When they first meet, White calls Ichigo Partner and has a whole 'dude, you don't recognise me? that hurts.' moment. I think that if it were White from the get-go - who was there when Ichigo reawakened his own powers, it'd be an interesting dynamic. I can imagine White having a bullying/teasing big brother attitude towards Ichigo and a protective streak (partly because that's canon), but if White had a chance to make a better first impression, I think things could've been better in the long run.
We might've also gotten some earlier lorebombs dropped. When Ichigo is going through Bankai training and Renji sees White, he could freak out about a Hollow being there -- with White groaning about 'ruining the surprise' -- which could lead to the red herring of White being the Hollow that formed when Ichigo was trying to get his powers back the first time.
If anything else, its a cool AU to ponder.
I don't get how people say dub is trash when we get Voices like this. This is Amazing!
There are some that change the words too much, or the voices don’t really fit well, or even both. But there are ones that do amazing work translating and getting amazing talent to voice the characters.
But then there are the people who are weirdos that don’t care about the quality and lump them in with the bad ones. Then scream ’SuBbEd ONLY’ even on the Dubbed versions when they could just go and find the subbed to watch and leave the people to want to listen instead of read enjoy the series all the same.
Sub viewer are just always hating with they hating lookin ass. Look at how hard they try and h8 on JoJo part 5 or kill la kill!

i see where your coming from but its the opposite way around. I love how Zangetsu and Kazeshini are such abstract beings and how they try to educate their wielders through their methods such as battle or through their dialogue that asks them these questions about themselves.

In a real life context, no one would want to be around someone who only wants to be better than those around themselves, rather, they would want to be around someone who pursues power to protect themselves and others. E.g, the cringe, unbased naruto. Idk, maybe I'm missing the point, but saying things like "it's your nature" and "it's the law of the jungle" never helped anyone. Granted, the power itself is necessary in the world of Bleach, but perhaps the motivation to stomp on others with it is something that should be relegated to Zangetsu.

If you think about it from Hollow Ichigo's perspective, he only did what he did for the sake of his survival (and to protect Ichigo, in a sense). He sounds and acts maniacal, but he's really doing what's needed to keep Ichigo, or rather "them" alive. Why else would he say, "Someone's whose uncertainty and hesitation will end up getting us both cut to pieces." ? Imagine if he allowed Ichigo to die during those times Ichigo was close to dying, Ichigo would disappear, Hollow Ichigo wouldn't exist. Those times when Ichigo hollowfies and doesn't care who he's fighting? That's survival instinct, it doesn't matter whether friend or foe, he's merely just trying to stay alive. Basically, Hollow Ichigo sees fighting as "life or death".
Zangetsu is truly a fusion of Hollow and Shinigami in philosophy, and as a Zanpakto spirit, his goal in the end is for Ichigo to grow, and if Ichigo won't grow, fight, and win. Then screw the rules he will drag Ichigo to become the strongest himself. He has always saved ichigo and never ONCE lied to him. He also upholds Ichigo's values to save and protect others no matter what, but in this case its for Ichigo. The blade truly is him.

After having lots of fun watching this anime several years ago, I completely ignore what Albino Ichigo said because of the fights; now since I'm mature, this speech is truly encouraging. Had some goosebumps and not realizing how motivating his lecture was to Ichigo. It also makes since. How can a King tame and have control over the Horse? The answer lies in a King's instinct. Without instinct, you cannot have control over the Horse. Therefore, the Horse will be the King if the King doesn't have the motivation of willful instinct.

That's not true AT ALL as he DID master his hollowification to use his mask in battles.
