Good Lord, why on earth do people give this young woman a thumbs down? I am relearning Finnish and it is a hellish difficult language. But Kat gives us Finnish learners an enthusiastic and FREE resource. So keep on keeping on Kat. I really do find your videos helpful. It is pretty rare to get a completely bilingual English-Finnish speaker. Many Finns speak good English but not as a first language. What you do is really helpful for the Finnish diaspora, especially second generation, Kat. I appreciate it, and I appreciate your enthusiasm and engagement.
Awww thank you so much, this comment has literally made my day! Thank you for being so kind. I'm glad you've enjoyed my content and good luck with relearning Finnish! :D All the best!
Don't worry! I have seen your requests and will make grammar videos later on. I'm working throughout June so these sorts of videos are easier to make for the time being :)
I remember how I wanted to say that Finnish language is not hard... and I said instead of Suomen kieli ei ole vaikea kieli - Suomen kieli ei ole vihreä kieli.... Yep... Finnish language is not definitely green.....

Ruskea means red in karelian language. I quess, it was same in finish earlier. Karelian is a brother language for finnish btw
gosh i love your videos so much, i’m always giggling when i watch them! thank you so much for making them, they’re perfect for my beginner vocabulary - they make me remember words super quickly! i recently fell in love with the Finnish language & it seems like i won’t be falling out of it anytime soon. can’t wait for my first trip to Finland this May, i hope i will have a chance to use some Finnish there :>
Kiitos, young lady. I'm really enjoying your videos. Finnish always seemed so hard and confusing to me, but your efforts have truly helped me get a good start on learning. Only problem: I can't trill my tongue. I never have been able to do that, and teaching a 47-year-old tongue new tricks is darn near impossible. :)
Great class! In portuguese for purple we have "púrpura", "violeta" and "lilás". And we have one more wore world "roxo". All almost the same color. Thanks for your time!
Thank you very much for these videos! It's hard to find good material out there when it comes to Finnish, and your videos are very helpful and fun to watch! Keep up the good work! Cheers from Brazil.
Hi, Katja! I've been watching your videos since years ago or more, and they are just getting better and better, you're doing an excellent job, especially these ones about Finnish. I hope that one day I will be able to achieve fluency in this language. Best wishes from Brazil.
You are hilarious hahaha! I subscribed and I'm gonna watch and rewatch all of these. I'll be starting my classes in Turku soon and these videos have been exactly what I'm looking for because I'm goofy as hell and some people are so serious in teaching/learning so it's very refreshing. ^_^
@@KatChatsFinnish Humor can often be the best teacher and yours is very subtle, yet tied to the teaching. It is quite nice to see. I look forward to more of your videos and seeing the rest of the ones I haven't seen yet. I hope so too, but if not, there is youtube hahaha. ^_^
Kiitos Kat for lesson & time you're taking for help us discover & learn Finnish!I read somewhere about colors: "For example, we’ll say vihreä takki (green coat), but vihreät housut; (green pants); likewise musta talo (the black house) becomes mustassa talossa (in the black house)....so...we said, for examples, "sininet housut"? (blue pants),or "harmaat housut"?...😅.Can you explain?Kiitos!Nico, a French learner since 6 month (NB: in french, "Pourpre" et "Lilas" are color too...)
Ohhh that is because adjectives in Finnish reflect the cases that the noun it’s describing is in. For example: Musta talo = the black house (basic form) Mustan talon = the black house’s (genetiivi) Mustassa talossa = in the black house (inessiivi) Mustasta talosta = from the black house (ellatiivi) Etc! The adjective and noun will both use the case!
"It's all purple". I like how you categorize color shades the same like a guy would :D I like that a lot. But now I want to see what kind of reactions you cause in a store when you buy nail polish. I think kasvot/kasvoni would be a better word in the example than informal naama/naamani for a face/my face. I wouldn't use "naama" for the face that's in the video because that seems a bit crude, especially since the first definition for the word is for animals. Although, it's Kat who Chats so maybe that would be appropriate :)
can you make these videos in Finnish w/ Eng subs please? so that we get to discover the language while getting immersed in it at the same time. great video anyways ^^ kiitos paljon
Hi, you are awesome. Yes, pink is pinkki, light red is vaaleanpunainen and pinkki and vaaleanpunainen are not same color 👌 so there is no vaaleanvaaleanpunainen. Because light red is allready more light than pink.
As an artist I would like to say something about 🟣 color names.... but purppura, violetti and Liila sounds similar to Italian so I can get the difference between them😂
2:31 She said that in a way, like: See that, mo**erfu**er? It's oranssi :D Good video though. Too bad you didn't put a test at the end like you do in some of your vids

In hungarian purple is "lila" too.
Lupus in German it can be too
same in croatian/bosnian/serbian/montenegrian
In spanish and turkish, and lots of other languages, lila is a light shade of purple.
Im in finland now. I hope i can learn finnish language from this lessons. Its easy to learn the way how you teach. Thankyou

I have a question about this: how to say light red? Because light red in Finnish is pink, but light red is not always pink
I guess you'd add a space like "vaalean punainen" xD so then it would be "light red" instead of "pink" or at least that's how I'd do it!
You foot rocks! Hahaha you make a great instructor!
