Hell yeah, the game really needed something like this! It's a shame the devs didn't add any way for an engineer to move around freely in the air and reach blocks higher up...
@@vandalvanda I don't have the DLC but I could see myself using these in even a normal survival game, you can easily bring one to jack up a wreck you're scrapping
There are a few DLC blocks on it, but you should be able to make it work without DLC, you'll just lose some skins and a couple decorative blocks. LMK if you have any issues, though.
Grinders don't grind their main grid, so as long as the glass is attached with the grinders it's safe. It's kinda cheesy, but cleaning out between grinders is very tedious, and cleaning the glass is much easier.
@@theRealDarkett It's also moderately useful for making "slow burner" ship printers. You can build a rotor-based spirograph (a rotating arm on another rotating arm) with a single welder, shielded by a glass wall, and then pull a projection "away" from the wall like regular printer setup. The welder will weld stuff through the wall, but won't weld anything *into* the wall (and, crucially, it keeps the mechanism from becoming jammed by trying to weld stuff inside of itself). It's much slower than a traditional "wall of welders", and requires a bit of tuning to ensure that the one welder is swept across the entire surface of the wall and doesn't miss anything, but it's cheaper to build, and it won't annoy the admins as much when you turn it on.
i used a similar system to make a extendable gun platorm to make it peak over hills and fire at POI's in the exploration mod instead of getting shot yourself.
Yep! I have a prototype for a road "paver" rover that can load with plates and weld the ground as it drives. There's so many fun ways to use rovers for things ships would be otherwise used for.
@@vandalvanda I have only recently tried to make a short run "Tramline" but this with a minor adaptation could solve my problem of Track Degradation with a simple "Maintenance Caboose" or even a dedicated utility vehicle.
It’s AQD Ugradeable Gyroscopes. It adds the rotating effect to all gyros that sprins more as it works. It also adds a gyro booster, and a 3x3x3 gyro. Great mod.
I've been trying to design a crane I could use to hold up vehicles I'm working on so I don't gotta wait for the thing to be built to put new landing gear on it, any tips on how I could design and make it work?
It's hard to suggest anything without more info, but the way I develop new small ships / rovers is: LG Piston in the ground with a LG rotor on top with a SG head and SG connector so that I can retract the piston and have the connector flush with the floor. Then I start building blocks up from the side of that connector, usually starting with another connector aligned with the existing one for bottom docking. Once I've got the basic functioning ship, I grind off the blocks that link the new vehicle to the original connector. You could also attach a SG projector to that connector, and raise it into a ceiling of welders, turn on the projector, and lower it down as it builds. Hope that helps somewhere
@@vandalvanda Alright, thank you, I've been trying to design one for a few days now but can't make a decent base, maybe my first issue was trying to do large grid-
@@lamithetoon2384 yeah, large grid can be tricky for building things like that. Small grid hinges and pistons are very strong, and can probably do what you need.
@@vandalvanda One thing I had an idea for that maybe you could try making is retracting cryopods, they retract into the walls or floor and are hidden by panels of blocks that extend to make a seemless cover, if it could be possible in large or small grid could you let me know? Agreed
its fun to add this to runs where jetpacks are disabled, it really makes you think outside the box for designs and functionality.

@@vandalvanda Np, I should probably release my blueprints to the Workshop.
I think I might have some fun toys to share with everyone too.
Ha ha, those dang active welder floors. XD Love the OSHA compliance of questionable efficacy!
Thanks! Yeah, the sensor doesn’t ALWAYS work the way you expect. I think the side range was detecting the wall.
Great build!
Thank you!
unrelated: how is the glass at 2:42 not subject to the grind pit? that seems useful to know

Nice builds, always improving if keen add a half ladder block would be perfect to climb in it easily without jetpack.
