Tonicas are good, sound okay. Evahs are the best, your violin sounds like it's twice it's value. Zyex are horrible, they sound like chinese knock-offs.
You can't judge by recording imo. The equipment doesn't capture the sound fully and often the volume is also not realistic. Zyex sounded the most resonant (ringing) which I like great but they may be good or not in real life. I switched to tonica after dominants and am happy with them, more clear and resonant. Just got a second set to have as a backup as the other is like 10 months old.
Hi Marijke - I use The Fiddlerman Synthetic Core Strings. They are "well-balanced, comfortable to play, and in many ways comparable to the popular Thomastik Dominant Strings." I also use the standard issue steel strings that came with one of my violins. 🎻♫ 😊
Well, while my abilities and my violin and viola are not commensurate with buying the most expensive strings, I try to get something workable that sounds good for the least amount of money.. I was happily using Tonicas until I realized that they really only last me about six months, and get boring after a while, so I just picked up a set of Dominants with a Pirastro Gold E, so I’m going to put them on next and see where that leads. As for the viola, I was happily using Thomastik Alphayue’s, and I recently picked up a set of D’Addario ProArte’s since it’s about time to change the viola strings, so I’ll see how that works out, and ultimately I’ll either stick with the Alphas or switch to the pro artes for the duration with that particular viola. I always like to check out opinions on gear! 👍🥳👨🏻
I promised to comment on string changes. I had Tonica’s on my violin, and Alphayue’s on my viola for a whole year. At that point, the lower Alphayue strings were dull; not so much with the Tonicas, but the PT’s were starting to get chewed up and becoming problematic. I was quite satisfied almost a year with these sets on my inexpensive instruments, but decided to experiment further. A while back I had picked up a set of Dominants with a Pirastro Gold E at significant savings for the violin. So far, I’m preferring the D’s for feel, tonal balance, and current quality of tone, so the longevity will ultimately decide which set gets put on next time. Also, I recently decided to try Pro Arte’s on the viola in lieu of the Alphayue’s at $5 less for the set. I think I prefer the Alphayue’s a little more, but again, longevity will be the deciding factor. The Pro Arte’s do seem to have a nice feel to them under the fingers, at least sor far, but I think I prefer the less focused sound of the Alpha’s. 🎻🥳👨🏻
strings respond to different violins as well. i don't think it is JUST the strings and it will also depends on your taste. Definitely , if you ask mutter, hahn or perlman they would have different preference. I like the Zyex.
Hi there. I liked the Tonicas immediately and I heard brighter sound on the gold strings. In my experience with gold guitar strings they don't last because they are a soft metal. I could hear the punch and bow grit on the Zyex strings but they should calm down over time. New round wound bass guitar strings also growl like that, they also mellow over time. If you don't want to wait for the Zyex strings to mellow, I would go with the Tonicas for over all balanced tone. That's my two cents. You sound good on all three. Cheers, Paul
Thanks. 🙂 The Tonicas seemed very plain to me compared to the other two, and the Evah's seemed dull after the Zyex. But I'm experimenting with combining the three sets, mixing and matching them, because why not. 😋
the Tonica and Zyex compared to the Pirazzi Gold is a day-and-night-like difference. The pirazzi Gold sounded more smoother and warmer while the other one sounded like a rusty garage door opening
I'm not sure, but compared to the cheap earplugs I used before I get a clear sound with these while the old ones muffled the sound. The ones I bought are also specifically made for musicians.
Need better violin for Evah Pirazzi Gold strings. I upgraded to Evah Gold set and violin sound. sing and ring like whole symphonic orchestra with powerful and bright tonnes.
What are your favourite violin strings? 🎻

Very informative review - the one I was looking for (comparing Tonica and Zyex). Thank you very much!!
Thanks for the comparison, always enjoy these comparison videos 😊 My preference is definitely the warmer mellow sounding strings
Thanks! I really like that too, although I want to try a brighter set too to see how it sounds. 🙂
@@MarijkeViolin I quite like pirastro aricore but really want to try the Evah pirazzi gold strings!
I bought Tonica strings after You praised them and was absolutely satisfied😊 Thank you for comparison 🙂
That's nice to hear, glad you like them! 🧡🎻
I'm using Pirastro Tonica strings and I really like them 😃👍

Do the evah pirrazi golds have a cleaner warm golden brillient tone, and are they soft under the hands

@@MarijkeViolin Do you have three identical violins to compare? That would be easier.
@@planetpjr That would be handy. 😋
@@MarijkeViolin You changed strings three times on the same violin? That is heroic.
If I played violin, "Bitter Sweet Symphony": Zyex strings.

Thanks, I was thinking to buy Eva's gold, but I'll buy the greens xD
I have a 200 euro violin, and it sounds so good that I buyed Evah strings for it :D
Are you still playing the viola? How are doing playing it.
Are those earplugs anything specific or would any earplugs do the same job reproducing what a listener would experience from a few feet away?

Zyex are really for Electric Violin
