It’s sad that this is a common story for black creators in Hollywood...this is a key example that we need to support one another more rather than fighting for scrapes
The key issue is ownership (through availability of capital) and protections being available to black creators. You're never going to have an equal standing if your community doesn't have the capital or governmental protections for your work. White people can steal your work word for word and black people will be left with no recourse. Coming together solves nothing without economic justice and protections in place. A political agenda and people who have access to fight for community uplift instead of for their own paycheck.
dariusd2003 coming together and putting our dollars together to start platforms for creators like him would help...along with coming together to boycott Hollywood...the black dollar is far more important than we think but your point is also valid on ownership but how can we teach one another this if we don’t come together??? If black “door keepers” aid white Hollywood in stealing from one of us for a sidekick role in some movie?

They also recycled characters, the blind con man from the encyclopedia episode later played Michaels principle in the bussing episode, Florida’s cousin Oscar came back as Fred Davis, who was also Cousin Grady on Sanford and son who was replaced by the Grady we know today. I got all first 3 seasons saved up on my DVR and watch them over and over. It went to crap after they killed James.
@@TiVo2Go You also made me think of the actress Ta-Tanisha, who made four appearances on Good Times. She played different characters who had one thing in common: she was always JJ's love interest. In her first appearance, she played a girl named Marcy Jones who wanted JJ to paint her a portrait to send to somebody as a gift; turns out that particular "somebody" was her boyfriend. She then played as JJ's ex-girlfriend who thought he gave her VD, but it was someone else she was messing with. Even though he probably won't get as much credit as he deserves at least you guys put a spot light on him. I didn't know about this guy before I saw this video. So thank you for putting me on some TV and black history that I didn't know. I will do some research on him because I wanna know more about him.
I'm baffled that the real life Michael Evans was Lionel Jefferson and not 'Michael Evans' from Good Times lol. Thanks for this insight, I'm not surprised. The Pat Boone affect spreads all over Hollywood smh
Unsung black writer of the 70s/80s...he never had the support he needed during that Era...come up was a struggle then...Now with social media would be able to get the support
Another legend
Thank you for providing his story👏🏾
Mr. Monte' has made history and thanks to comedy hype his story will hopefully help the young folks achieve more to get a comprehensive knowledge of contact law and accounting so that the bowing, scraping and submitting to debasing their peers and women for fame and fortune can end. Once one is Redlined in any industry by the majority, our Brother's, Son's Mother's, Daughters have no one to turn to for assistance and the majority keeps it that way. We need to join hand and work together, there will never be a better opportunity than today.
Great story!
Cautionary tale. Truly sad.
I love this channel!! I’ve learned so much and I’m glad y’all are giving voices to unforgotten folks.
Well said great job y’all informing the people i can respect that👍🏾
Do a interview with him I wanna hear his story. Yes I’m going to look up other interviews on him but this is something I didn’t know at all about shows I love!!!!
This story is a damn shame.
For those who didn't know, like me Thank you for this information, I will not be sadden by this, it's nothing new..He is still here, hopefully he will get the justice that he deserves. Behind the scenes, there is a lot we don't know about, I am glad its being brought to the table and it is still going on.Thank you I have been educated today.
Ok this is the movie we need, this brother needs a Netflix original mini series
Yep! Asap...
This is crazy. So sad . This man is incredible. Respect to Monte ✊🏽
Norman lear is a thief and plagiarist
This made me sad man 😭💔
Dope content! This needs to go viral!!
Thanks for sharing this information! Bless up!
I'm amazed at his optimism despite everything he's endured. A lot to learn from that.
Gotta love Norman Lear saying that he's saddened to hear that Eric Monte is homeless, when Lear is the one who stole his ideas, & blackballed him from Hollywood!!
Y'all found the absolute worst photos of Eric Monte you could find. Smh
I’ve railways known his story growing up in Chicago and attending and working with the black ensemble theaters and with schooling’s by the dusable museum so sad that they never made things fair with him
Monte takes credit for a lot of stuff. He says he created Cosby.
He did.
How? Wow!
Thank you for this post.
Didn’t he create Cooley High to? Or no?
January yes
Yes, it’s based on his life.
Damn Oprah
thanks so much for making this. People need to know so they make the right decisions in life. Bad idea to work for certain people.
Dang,he couldn't get one NAACP lawyer to help him with that?😢
Thank you for this story.I always wondered who he was.I saw his name at the end of Goodtimes along with Mike Evans
You should do George Kirby, he's A forgotten comedian.
I wonder why Taylor Perry hasn't reached out to him to help him with work?
They did Mr Monte wrong. I can't stand Norman Lear. He got an award last year and I turned the channel
Normal Lear is the guy who stole his story and he knows it.
How nobody stepped to Norman Lear? This is criminal! Not 1 time not 2 times but 3 times in a row...All classics!
Because he will have them blacklisted
They are ALWAYS doing this to us!!!! That is so tragic that he created shows.. popular shows...and receives no royalties!!
Years ago when I attended Duke Ellington School Of The Arts In Wash DC as a theatre student , Mr Monte came and spoke to u
us regarding his different shows / industry he was a very nice guy.
Thank you for bringing this to all our attention now it's our turn to change this to have a better all our futures. Please Americans truthfully put these situations on blast right away so we as a people can stand behind you and fight for all people's rights and create fair playing feilds for all
I'm watching Cooley High the memories of the 70's classic so reminds me of my childhood growing up in the projects in DC watching gonzilla at the Senator theater bring back good memories.
Respect for this✊✊
Thank you Eric Monte 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Unsung hero... we should honor our fallen soldier.
They don’t want us watching this apparently
Norman Lear got the credit for all of this stuff
This is sad.....and the shows are some of my favorites.
Norman Lear’s family should pay him back. Norman is still alive I know but too stubborn to do the right thing. Pay him and give him credit.
As usual a gifted black man comes with the big ideas but the white man takes it away . Smgdh
I figured those shows were created by a black man. He was very, very talented. He would have been another Ron Howard if he were white.
I grew up watching the Jefferson’s and Good Times. Hats off to a genius - Eric Monte. Sad ending 😢
