Zach's major problem in every galaxy device teardown is Samsung using strong adhesives to glue the battery to the device, but now Samsung has started using Pull Tabs, I am sure Zach can now finally upgrade to the S23 Ultra from his Note 10 Plus!.
If Zach actually takes care of his battery over the years that he has, there is basically no need to replace. My Note 10+ after almost 4 years of use, gets a little over 6 hours of on screen use from 90 to 10. Only reason why I got the S23 ultra was that I got almost $700 off trading in so it was a no brainer after 4 years. But I am not getting the super great battery that everyone else is getting. 8 hours of off screen time when sleeping is almost 3-4% battery loss from this phone which is the same as my note 10+
@longlin1024 The note 10+ gets quarterly security updates currently but will end this year sometime I think. The note 10 lite still gets monthly security updates
@95thRiflesOCI the Note 10+ also has a 700 mAh smaller battery, and the S23Ultra has a faster clocked CPU so I think that it ends up balancing out. You're getting similar battery life on a device that has much newer, faster, and more capable technology.

Just got my hands on an s23 ultra today coming from an s10e. Such a huge jump its crazy, ive never owned a flagship before and it definitely feels every bit of expensive and premium.
Nicely engineered phone. I’ve recently gotten into electronics repair and can’t even begin to imagine how the chips and pcbs were thought of in the first place. Really amazing
So is to see them lobby to prohibit any non-samsung OLED/AMOLED screens from passing the US border because they might infringe on their pixel arrangement patent. The battery looks more like a basic distraction from the fact that they're becoming more and more like Apple. Great, you can remove it. With use of specialized tools because the case is glued together. This is not something to congratulate them for unless they truly move into that direction.
There is no effort in making changes for replacing the battery, there is booby traps that can render the phone inoperable and the back glass panel is very difficult to remove in one piece.
I loved to see the tear down test for the Samsung S23 Ultra, I’ve been waiting for this so I can view its overall durability and its material and as well
Glad to see the battery easier to remove. Now if they could figure out how to make the back panel still waterproof while being removable without heat, suction cup, and a thin sharp object... 😄
I mean. Does it seem that hard to stick a rubber gasket under some glass? If it had a cover secured with pressure by like 4 to 6 screws with a gasket between it and the main body, it wouldn't need to be heated and cut.
@@GuitarSlayer136 samsung is attempting to enforce their patent of pixel pattens in OLED screens. "Samsung Display applied for suspension of import and sales of OLED for repair in the U.S. that used its patent without permission." Effectively, if this happens, 3rd party screen repair becomes an impossibility. Look up Louis Rossmann's video on the subject.
Since you started making those videos I feel like phone quality has gone up tremendeously. I was that person that changed phones every 6 months and now I am rocking my galaxy s20 ultra for almost 3 years. The battery easily gets me through 1.5 days after all this use and the phone is as fast as the day I got it.
Would love to see Jerry do durability tests on lower models and not the most expensive one... Especially would love to see a durability test on the S23+, since I've got one on pre-order, and has been delayed three times for a total of one month despite ordering the phone a day after it came out. No doubt you'd have enough time to get one and test it 🙂
With enough people asking I'm sure he may. He gets the devices from the companies though as they reach out to him and other tech reviewers. They just often send their top phone to review rather than the others. Look up his podcast with Waveform and you learn a bit more of his work even though most of here as subscribers know most of it haha. Still things to learn from it
Hello sir. I know you probably won't see this, but I had to thank you for making these teardowns. I just replaced a broken wide angle camera and rear glass on my $1200 S23 Ultra for less than 20 bucks. I am usually a bit of a cheapskate and don't get the best phone, but there was an awesome trade in deal that made the phone quite inexpensive actually. I was so upset when I broke it, but your video gave me the confidence to open up my phone and do the repair myself with no complications at all! Thank you :)
Everyone has been waiting on Zack's review of this particular phone. And it was awesome! Finally an easily replaceable battery, although I'm still on my Samsung Galaxy S7. I definitely will be getting the dbrand cover case as my old S7 has never had a case nor a screen cover. And it still works fine. Just out of memory and keep losing apps as the system is so old so it doesn't support them. Thanks Zack for an awesome teardown, review, and useful information. Now to get my dbrand case first. Again an awesome teardown and review!
One very important thing that is missing is a MicroSD card slot. I would have upgraded to the S23 Ultra but the deal breaker for me was no MicroSD. I've been on Note phones for a long time, and I'll keep my Note 10+ until either it breaks or Samsung releases an S Ultra with a MicroSD slot.
@@super-gerald Eventually you'll have to either move away from a Micro SD card slot or get a Sony Xperia One phone which has it alongside a headphone jack.
@ 2:28 Dude wait!!!! Before pulling the battery out, put some alcohol on the sides of the battery. Makes removing it much easier. The frame slight flexed when you pulled the tab.
As glad as I am to see that the battery is now easier to remove, I can't say it ever worried me that much on previous models and I do believe that the issue was made out to be bigger than it really was. I work in device and phone repair and I have to remove Samsung batteries very regularly. But I've always found that if I give it a generous amount of isopropyl as soon as I get the back off, and then undo the screws and other parts while the alcohol does its thing, and then put the phone back on the heat plate for a couple of minutes, the battery pretty much falls out. I'm not saying it's ideal, and I don't use anywhere near as much adhesive when putting the battery back in, but if you have the right tools, it was really not that hard.
That's the thing, "the right tools" Regular people with a bit of technical knowledge wanting to just get a 30-ish dollar part and then replace it themselves at home do not usually also have the tools. I know this from experience, as any form of adhesive was pain for me before I got some isopropyl alcohol (I mostly repair my 10-15yr old phones from my collection, so I don't get to work with adhesive very often)
You have to keep in mind end of life recycling too. Recyclers are not going to spend 10-15 minutes trying to carefully extract a battery. If it is glued into place that well (for no reason) then it’s getting chucked in the garbage, especially if the recycler risks a fire or injury by deforming or stabbing the battery when trying to remove it. Making it easier to remove means that it’s more likely to get recycled at the end of its life rather than chucked in the trash. We have to consider the recycleability of stuff now, especially things like smart phones since they are so heavily used, produced in such high numbers, and discarded so readily. We’ve spend decades not caring about what damage we cause to the planet by just using things and throwing them in landfills or burning them in the classic “out of sight, out of mind” fashion and look where we are now.
Your videos are excellent. I would love to see more considerations about oxidation resistance, whether they use gold or copper to coat the electronics.
Man, I wanted the s23 Ultra but the size & price was a bit much for me. I downgraded from my 13 Pro Max for the S23 (standard size) and I love it. The pen & cameras are also why I wanted the Ultra, but I couldn't afford it (and honestly if that's the only reasons I wanted it ... I don't need it). 😂 But I love the S23. The size is so comfy in my hands. I've used Android before I swapped to Apple a decade ago and man, do I prefer it more.
It's great to see Samsung finally adopt pull tabs to remove the battery, this should increase the longevity of their phones which is obviously great on its own but it's even better now that Samsung is giving all their flagships at least 4 years of Android feature updates.
This year has to be the best in terms of repairability! Both Apple and Samsung have yielded to the right to repair and made changes to their devices to accommodate that. This is a huge win for consumers!
Yea huge win, what a retarded comment, 99.999 percent of people gets apple care and just bring their phone to apple and get a new one take 10 minutes, And the other people just idiots
Good to see Samsung making their phones more repairable finally! After using the S22 Ultra as my daily driver for work and pleasure I upgraded to the S23 Ultra about 2 weeks ago. All I can say is wow. Performance wise it seems like the new S23 Ultra is two generations ahead of last years flagship instead of only one. I'm thinking it's the new UFS 4.0 memory and 5X RAM combined with the beast Snapdragon Gen 2 chip. Runs dramatically faster in day to day tasks all while running much cooler. Normally improved performance comes with worse battery life but not this year thankfully. I'm getting an extra half days worth of battery life on my new phone which is quite impressive to say the least. My phone calls are noticeably more clear with no dropped calls like I had prior with the S22 Ultra...proving the new Qualcomm X70 modem is much improved while being nearly 50% more efficient. One of my favorite upgrades is the speakers that actually have decent bass this year compared to the brutal sound we had in last years S22 Ultra. All in all I'm really enjoying the new phone and that's not even getting into the improved cameras and OIS. Well done Samsung
Just bought the s23 Ultra a couple weeks back. Pre-ordered it from Verizon. Everyday I come across more reasons to be thrilled with my purchase. Thanks for making my day!
Nothing really bad would happen even if the lcd flex cable was as damaged as it is separate and relatively inexpensive. Overall a great move towards improving repairability by samsung. I wish they waterproofed or separated the lcd connector better from now on, water ingress through the speaker, mic or charging port shouldn't have to mean an issue for the lcd too.
I took advantage of a trade-in and storage pre-purchase upgrade bonus and I am extremely happy with the S23 ultra. My previous LG V60 ThinQ will be missed and the last Samsung I had was an S8 Active which this by far blows everything out of the water for that. Happy to watch the teardown so I hopefully never have to do it myself.
I just got my S23U. I could've gotten $200 for my S8 International (Exynos). But decided to keep it, because I'm sorely missing having SD card support and, more importantly, a headphone jack. I did buy two DACs, first one cabled but I regretted after realizing having it in the same pocket, would damage my screen; it was also really treble-heavy. (iBasso DC06) Then I got the Fiio BTR7, which is better and BT, so I can keep it in a different pocket (is also had a cable-mode, if the battery ever dies). It's audio is 'warmer' which is more to my taste. Unfortunately, they both still don't sound as good as the S8's built in audio sounds! 😔😮💨 Other than that, it is indeed far superior in every way. What I think I enjoy most, is the stereo sound, though! I was sincerely blown away by the sound quality with Dolby Atmos (Movie) enabled... 😮 Even watching low quality YT videos of someone playing _War Thunder,_ the left and right channel separation and psuedo-surround sound made it very immersive to watch! Hearing fighter aircraft approach from the back left (behind the person playing) and enter the screen on the right, you could hear every bit of its position even though it wasn't on screen! All from _two tiny phone speakers..._ 😯😳🥹 And naturally, watching movies with quality audio is a real treat! [/rambling]

everything kinda went downhill from there onwards
@@aminuumar8517 you can say that it was a shitty experience
I am simply amazed how they manufacture things like this over billions units. More amazing is how others make the equipments to produce such.
I wish they'd have kept that beautiful bronze color from the Note 20 Ultra as well as the S22 Ultra. That color is gorgeous, I can't decide which color I like best out of what's available.... maybe the red?
Same here, that bronze was awesome.
The bronze was amazing
graphite and green, i liked graphite a bit more that's why i went for ir
The green looks much better in person than it does on camera. I had the bronze Note 20 Ultra and went for the green S23 Ultra and wasn't disappointed.
I scooped the red one. It's badass
my man, u have no bullshit intro no 10 min long sponsor thingy just straight to the video and thats it, this is why we love you

I have waited for this for the past three years since I started watching Jerry's channel.. Samsung are growing 💗❤️
When are you Doing the S24 Ultra Ter Down Jerry ?
Would love to see the durability and teardown for the other S23s too, especially to see if they have removable battery too.
I'm also interested in the plus model
Even it hurts while it tears down one by one. I accept that this is tear down video. I love it and very knowledgable! Greetings from philippines❤️❤️❤️
The price is also amazing. Don't worry I'm not one of those dumb shills who paid thousands $ for a phone. $340 for 120hz 10bit 12gb 256gb 65watt 8T.
It’s great to see Samsung making an effort to make battery replacements easier
So is to see them lobby to prohibit any non-samsung OLED/AMOLED screens from passing the US border because they might infringe on their pixel arrangement patent.
The battery looks more like a basic distraction from the fact that they're becoming more and more like Apple. Great, you can remove it. With use of specialized tools because the case is glued together.
This is not something to congratulate them for unless they truly move into that direction.
Except they don't offer it on their self-repair program.
Just bring the back removal
How hard is it took bring it back?
@@prashnaveetprasad8339 impossible seeing as oems dont want you touching it anymore.
There is no effort in making changes for replacing the battery, there is booby traps that can render the phone inoperable and the back glass panel is very difficult to remove in one piece.
woooh thank you for this.. I was very anxious when I stuck the pin in the Mic hole hahaha I thought I damaged the waterproofing cover 😂😂😂
I'm really liking how much slower the battery drains on the S23 Ultra when the phone is just idling. It's a big improvement over the S22U
6:21 that took a wild turn
come on Daddy
Imagine pulling out sim card tray and suddenly put the pin in microphone holes instead, and then you heard Bixby; Yamete that's a wrong hole

I loved to see the tear down test for the Samsung S23 Ultra, I’ve been waiting for this so I can view its overall durability and its material and as well
Your amazing commentary never gets old! Thank you so much for your videos.
Thank you Jerry for your explanation. I accidentally poke the mic hole and worried about it
This is the exact variant that I have, Jerry! This hurts me to see it torn down. But I'm glad you're the one doing it!
Excellent device, excellent teardown! Thank you🙏 Zach!
because your SUB joke is so smooth, I subscribed
Glad to see the battery easier to remove. Now if they could figure out how to make the back panel still waterproof while being removable without heat, suction cup, and a thin sharp object... 😄
💯❤️💯
I mean. Does it seem that hard to stick a rubber gasket under some glass? If it had a cover secured with pressure by like 4 to 6 screws with a gasket between it and the main body, it wouldn't need to be heated and cut.
@@magnarex 🤷🌚
This is a monumental day for self repair.
Things have improved marginally!
💯💯💯
No it isnt. Samsung is destroying right to repair.
@@Kentololable how so?
@@GuitarSlayer136 samsung is attempting to enforce their patent of pixel pattens in OLED screens.
"Samsung Display applied for suspension of import and sales of OLED for repair in the U.S. that used its patent without permission."
Effectively, if this happens, 3rd party screen repair becomes an impossibility. Look up Louis Rossmann's video on the subject.
@Kentololable you got samsung confused with apple clown 🤡
i finally got the s23 ultra, i love this phone
merry christmas, everyone
Since you started making those videos I feel like phone quality has gone up tremendeously. I was that person that changed phones every 6 months and now I am rocking my galaxy s20 ultra for almost 3 years. The battery easily gets me through 1.5 days after all this use and the phone is as fast as the day I got it.
S 20 ultra gang
Your battery simple don't get you through 1.5 days unless you're just texting and calling on it. Post your screen on time of 36 hours to prove it
Would love to see Jerry do durability tests on lower models and not the most expensive one...
Especially would love to see a durability test on the S23+, since I've got one on pre-order, and has been delayed three times for a total of one month despite ordering the phone a day after it came out. No doubt you'd have enough time to get one and test it 🙂
💯❤️❤️
With enough people asking I'm sure he may. He gets the devices from the companies though as they reach out to him and other tech reviewers. They just often send their top phone to review rather than the others.
Look up his podcast with Waveform and you learn a bit more of his work even though most of here as subscribers know most of it haha. Still things to learn from it

That removable battery was absolutely beautiful
6:00 omg thanks, you saved my mind 💪

The days of MicroSD card is gone my friend. At most you can expect hybrid slot but in premium phones that's rare.
@@hakim5939 Then Samsung doesn't want my money I guess.
Get the Note 20 Ultra if you want a Micro SD card slot.

That's the thing, "the right tools"
Regular people with a bit of technical knowledge wanting to just get a 30-ish dollar part and then replace it themselves at home do not usually also have the tools.
Amazing tear down. They really do a great job keeping things simple in there.
كيف كانت التجربة؟
Going for apple to android is an upgrade. Hardly a downgrade even with a base model.
Awesome, as always. One of the few youtubers who hasn't changed over the years. Keep it up
The dialog is so funny... tears for lubrication... jackhammer selfie... haha, killer writing!
It's great to see Samsung finally adopt pull tabs to remove the battery, this should increase the longevity of their phones which is obviously great on its own but it's even better now that Samsung is giving all their flagships at least 4 years of Android feature updates.
No it’s so when they get recalled for catching on fire the can replace them quicker
I love the clear back to see inside your phone
This year has to be the best in terms of repairability! Both Apple and Samsung have yielded to the right to repair and made changes to their devices to accommodate that. This is a huge win for consumers!
Yea huge win, what a retarded comment, 99.999 percent of people gets apple care and just bring their phone to apple and get a new one take 10 minutes,
And the other people just idiots
2:00 best🤣
I'm one of those guys who accidentally placed it on the wrong whole Im glad that you said it wont damage anything. Thanks!
Wow, I was guessing it was going to be the battery surprise and was not disappointed. Awesome video as usual 🙂👍
Well done Samsung
unusable and boring in the trash, he's a camera phone and not a phone
Yea for all the 200 people that repair their phone, easier to buy apple care and get a couple new ones when it gets scratched, idiots
How many hours does a fully charged S22 ultra and S23 ultra battery last?
Just bought the s23 Ultra a couple weeks back. Pre-ordered it from Verizon. Everyday I come across more reasons to be thrilled with my purchase. Thanks for making my day!
Nothing really bad would happen even if the lcd flex cable was as damaged as it is separate and relatively inexpensive.
Overall a great move towards improving repairability by samsung. I wish they waterproofed or separated the lcd connector better from now on, water ingress through the speaker, mic or charging port shouldn't have to mean an issue for the lcd too.

I literally came to this video after I put it in the wrong hole just to see if I damaged my mic but good thing it sloops down
2:30 what Samsung has no superclue weird
Seems like a reasonable improvement from the S22 Ultra in terms of the ability to tear it down for repairs. Very nice!
03:53 That was a 3rd degree burn!! Loved that.
(iBasso DC06)
Then I got the Fiio BTR7, which is better and BT, so I can keep it in a different pocket (is also had a cable-mode, if the battery ever dies). It's audio is 'warmer' which is more to my taste.
Unfortunately, they both still don't sound as good as the S8's built in audio sounds! 😔😮💨
Other than that, it is indeed far superior in every way. What I think I enjoy most, is the stereo sound, though! I was sincerely blown away by the sound quality with Dolby Atmos (Movie) enabled... 😮
Even watching low quality YT videos of someone playing _War Thunder,_ the left and right channel separation and psuedo-surround sound made it very immersive to watch! Hearing fighter aircraft approach from the back left (behind the person playing) and enter the screen on the right, you could hear every bit of its position even though it wasn't on screen!
All from _two tiny phone speakers..._ 😯😳🥹
And naturally, watching movies with quality audio is a real treat!
