Hey Mark, please make new videos of Tech Rewind 😍, i love that series.. i love to see Pixel 5 in the next episode ☺️❤️
Pro or Pro Max?
First time watching, loved how concise and straight to the point this review was. Background music very well controlled and relaxing, voice is very clear and not too heavily bass boosted. Good production. Subscribed.
Are the haptics the same as the S22U? I've always found them to be a bit light on my S22U to the point where I can miss calls when my phone is my pocket. Thanks!
Love to see St.John's, NL in a review. I subscribed!!! Thanks for checking my comment @mark spurrell. Anyway, I pre-ordered S23 ultra, shipping is delayed till March.
There's actually two or more different issues going on with the s23 ultra cameras that I hope will be fixed with software, but the problem you mentioned with blurry photos is not from shutter lag but a result of the camera prioritizing lower shutter speed in order to use a lower iso speed to lower noise in the final picture. This can easily be fixed using pro mode. If you don't know how to use all the advanced options, you can leave most settings to auto but just manually increase the iso into you get 1/60 or faster shutter speed and that would significantly help you reduce motion blur in your pictures. Using pro mode may also decrease shutter lag because it'll turn off scan qr and scene optimizer which I found to have contributed to shutter lag. Shutter lag does not contribute to blurry photos caused by motion but may cause subject to think photo has been taken and move before the image is captured causing the photographer to miss the moment, or in case of moving subjects, the framing of the subject in the photo being off or out of frame. This can indirectly cause blur if the subject moves are they think the photo was taken already.
To combat motion blur, you don't need a different app, just use pro mode and leave everything to auto if you want to point and shoot and just select appropriate iso level to get a minimal shutter speed to reduce motion blur (I haven't figured out if you can even have manual settings on my wife's iPhone, so that's where As photographer, I give credits for samsung making manual modes so accessible)
To reduce shutter lag, turn off scene optimizer and scan qr. This will reduce shutter lag but doesn't eliminate it, it seems like the shutter lag is worst than my fold 3 that I'm replacing with the 23 ultra but it will definitely help significantly. The only other issue that I think is contributing to the shutter lag is due to the autofocus hunting and it looks like it can be due to nature of the laser focusing method used versus the dual pixel af on my fold 3 or software. It seems like the software the s23 ultra launched with is a bit buggy, causing it to not autofocus right away when you first launch the app and it won't take the picture until it focus locks. A way to remedy it is to manually point at area you want to have focused and it will help the camera lock in focus immediately. The fold 3 didn't have his problem and will af lock almost immediately after app is launched. Secondly the speed it takes for the camera to lock on focus appears to be slower than my fold 3 in low light settings when I'm taking pictures of fish in my aquarium, this also contributes to the shutter lag as the camera won't take a picture until it locks on focus. Most of the time in good light, the 23 ultra locks focus faster than the fold 3 but not in low light which I think is a nature of the laser focus module.
At the very least, I think samsung can optimize the camera app to ensure it starts to lock focus immediately after launching the app and work on reducing shutter lag induced by scan qr and scene optimizer. If possible, even tweaking the af algorithm to help with faster focus. As for the shutter speed, the pro mode workaround is a great solution and usually I like prioritizing lower iso to get higher image quality especially with optical stabilization, we typically can afford lower shutter speed in static subjects but perhaps samsung can make it easier for the casual crowd by introducing a sports or indoor mode that prioritizes shutter speed over iso to help reduce motion blur in indoor photos!
The image quality is definitely a lot better than the fold3 though so I'm willing to live with these short comings for now
You shouldn't have to use Pro mode. The Pixel, and iPhone don't need settings changed.
@@thundergato84 I agree that a typical user should not need to use pro mode to reduce shutter lag and have priorty in faster shutter speed to take pics of faster moving pets and kids! While as a photographer I appreciate the manual controls that will give me the best quality when needed, I myself would love to be able to just point at shoot and get good pictures for casual photos!
However my post was not an excuse for samsung, I was just pointing out that shutter lag and slower shutter speed are two completely different issues that the Samsung phones have that reviewers tend to talk about as one issue and pointed out what I think contributed to these results and how one can work around it and not completely write off this otherwise great phone that can provide great image quality.
Definitely a super annoying issue that I like to see fix especially when there are areas where it is just buggy software and no excuse for samsung, but for people who the s23 ultra fits the bill for in all other areas, I hope my work around will make it so they don't need to give up taking good pictures if they choose this phone!
Great review,I love it that you posted a new video again keep it up!✌️♥️
Whats ur sot on avg ?
Nice review! I was looking at reviews of this phone and realized that I have a fellow Spurrell surname doing awesome work.
Hey Mark, concerning the shutter lag you mentioned: Could you pls do a review of the possible solution with Good Locks Camera Assistent and its settings. Some mentioned that it might help but on the other hand it should reduce image qualitiy too far. Do you agree?
I’ve watched quite a few videos on this phone and I cannot find one single negative review the cameras and battery life has been praised this s23u is the best phone of the year this far
My S22 Ultra gives me about 5-6 Hours screen on time...I get about 20-30 minutes extra if I do FHD+ 60hz.
I recently switched back to my LG V60 which consistently gives me 9-10 hours screen on time. I switched back cause I miss its more natural camera and no lag, louder speaker and I got a 1TB Micro SD in it.
How much better is the S23 Ultra compared to the V60 in terms of battery life?
Thanks
Ordered mine during the pre-sale, two weeks ago, didnt even dispatched yet........ :(
The storage speeds are the most interesting thing to me. Like, two times faster than UFS 3.1 which was already fast. I wonder if it translates when opening big apps or saving edited photos/video.
I have the S23 ultra and have been using that 200mp camera. When I zoom in the photo the details seem blurry. Is this normal or should I change some settings? I have turned scene optimizer off
There is a 200mp mode that you have to switch on to use the full 200m pixels of the sensor. It's under the button that says 4:3.
@Mark Spurrell I already was aware of that thank you. Still have the issue for some reason
@@samuelrodgers9283 depending on how blurry you're talking, sounds like it might be an issue with your unit. I'd reach out to samsung support.
@Mark Spurrell they are not super blurry but if I zoom into objects that are like 1-2 feet away they aren't anywhere near as sharp I would expect from 200mp
@Mark Spurrell Do you have Whatsapp or something so I could send you a photo example? You seen to be much more professional than I am
Enjoyed your take on it! Nice video
Which background music did you use? Is it from the UA-cam free songs list?
Great review !🙌
1:26 what's the game
So, when charging with the Samsung wireless charger, what color is the charging ring on the screen? I tried using the apple magsafe charger and it's green, so I'm not sure it's charging at 15w
It's all green bro no matter what charger you use
@Obi Dean when you super fast charging with cable it's blue vs. Regular charger with cable which is green. My thought was maybe fast wireless charging might also be blue
@@jovanventura8726 Wow that's new, I guess it's exclusive to the newer gen phone. My S10 show all in green lol, hence why I said that earlier haha
Pardon for my mistake 🤝🏻
@@obidean3964 well, my 2 year old galaxy s21 did that with wired charging. I've wirelessly charged that also, but it was always green, I don't think they touted a "fast wireless charging" feature back then for that 2 years ago.😄
this is the phone i want to get this spring
My s21 ultra on the full 108mp I can snap a picture of a car driving away from me at a distance that makes for a shitty photo unzoomed, then after the fact zoom to the point I can read the number plate, then zoom till I can count the spokes of the wire rims on the car, then check just how bald the dude driving it is, then I can zoom even further to the point where I can make out which car magazine is sitting on his dash and reflecting off the windscreen, all of this captured at 5 or so car lengths while he drives away from me. (I spent ages analysing one of my early photos of an old convertible and was absolutely blown away to see just how much detail is captured at 108mp, if i wanted to scroll through all the covers of whichever magazine it was id literally be able to point out the exact issue it was, it just staggers me what itll do)
I say all that to say holy shit I can't wait to see just how wild the 200mp camera on the s23 is!!!
Only downside I've found is that it's hard to send the photos to anyone at full resolution, I felt like an absolute idiot the first time I went to send some required photos of a site to my boss only to have to ring her like "I'm sorry but I can't send any of the photos over, I can drop in tomorrow and show them to you but each photos too large to attach to an email, even one at a time" 🤣🤣
I'm having that issue with the s22 ultra. Videos that I send are pixled. Not like the quality when I first bought it (last year)...
By the way, I love Signal Hill
Are the side bezels really not equally wide???
Got mine today and loving it
How? It releases on the 17th. Just pre-ordered mine as my upgrade
@@GD1_3 Plenty of folks have been receiving their S23Us early. Mine is in route, just arrived at a UPS SoCal facility this morning for a delivery date of tomorrow.
Yup me too. Typing from it rn
Wait how is it out lol
@@troymoviemadness7130 pre orders shipped early
I upgraded. I previously was using the Samsung Galaxy s20 regular line, and now I have 23 Ultra, and I love it. I feel like more people will upgrade at least three or more years, not the standard 2 😎👊
wow you traveled to the future and got a S223 Ultra!?
😂😂😂😂
40mp on the front facing camera was such silly overkill like wtf do you need 40 megapixels for in a selfie
I ABSOLUTELY NEED my phone to exaggerate all the undulating imperfections on my face. That's the reason I want 40 megapixels for a selfie camera.
good video
I can't wait to receive mine this Saturday
Here is the next major item smart phones will need to add, SECOND input/output port.
Need this ASAP!
Watching this on my S23 Ultra ✌🏼
who ever holds the phone without a case on it ?
a reviewer ? yes that it ...
so sides of phone makes no difference for 98.6 of
people who own ...
upgraded from s21 ultra , same battery but lasts
much longer in s23 , feels noticably faster which
makes it feel smoother ...
happy enough ...
Thick as a brick and what is the size of the system partition? L_
Every phone after the note 10 has been a refinement making things worse and catching back up to the note 10
Preach
Not really my note 20 ultra was a beast too. My note 9 was also a beast. Both great phones and I'm sure the note 10 is also but the s23 ultra is pretty impressive. The battery is outstanding
Îs better then 13 Max ore even 14 Pro?
Obviously it is
No shit sherlock
depends on what matters the most to you
what are the most important things for you in a smartphone?
@@chl_ca battery life & a smooth experience.
@@Silvestian this device will give you both of those incredibly.
Digitizer for S-Pen inside the S Ultra (Note hardware) makes the front bezel slightly uneven at the bottom. At least compare to competitors, screen to body ratio is 90.2% so it's all good!
Great video! I bought my Samsung Note 9 4 almost 5 years ago. It still runs like a champ. No cracks or scratches. I really hate to part with it but after knowing I could get $800 plus a bunch of other goodies then I knew I couldn't pass it up to get the S23 Ultra.
My preorder got delayed by 3-4 weeks😭
Why??
ST. John's NFLD.. My mother was born and raised there.. I was born in the states. NY and I finally got to visit NFLD about 6 years ago. I am in my 60"s and NFLD is a great place. and thanks for the Phone S23 reviews. I do not know any place else that has jelly bean houses....LOL
I received mine this morning 2/15. After transferring everything from my 14 pro max, I’ve been playing around with the S23 ultra for awhile I’m trying to get use to the new software. But I’m thinking I’m gonna return it and stick with my iPhone.
lmao seriously? why? I'll stay with it until the iphone 17 arrives then I'll switch back
No 3.5mm jack, no SD card slot.... nope. On to find another phone.
What's up?
Camera assistant integrates with the camera app.
My first full charge I almost got 48 hours of battery. Almost 10 hours of SOT. Blows my note 20 ultra away. It's basically the note 20 ultra perfected in my opinion. Happy I upgraded.
did any s22 ultra users upgrade?
🖐
I upgraded from my S23 Ultra and I can only recall good things.
the display is a tint more vibrant (color setting: neutral), the speaker sounds a tad more bassy while the most amazing thing is the CPU.
never before we're I able to charge my phone the day before and arrive from school with a little battery left.
Most people download apps they don't even use, and for people who care about the shutter which seems to be youtubers and people trying to justify a competitor of samsung its there for em.
You are extremely right
Yep. When you download it , it becomes part of the camera app settings. I think that the type of people who care enough to buy the Ultra instead of the regular phone will be happy just to have a fix for the issue.
I don't upgrade often so coming from my s20 plus... I'm not going to have any complaints. I'm not going to not love it. I wish it came in burgundy but I bought a case. I'm excited to shoot at my next concert.
😊😢
Just got mine and went from a galaxy s20 to what is now
Some can’t feel the difference some can. It’s like iPhone, I like both I’m going with the s23 ultra this year. Bored with iPhone
Same. Tired of the same iPhone every single year. Time for a change.
@@armyveteran3686 💪💪
You were late in making videos for S23 ultra . I hope you are not sick and everything is OK
Everything's all good! I just got the phone later than I would have liked
Nice to hear that. I was waiting for your review after I watched other UA-camrs like Mkbhd , Mr who the boss and others. And it felt like something is missing.
So I can say now that I watched all of you.
Been holding onto my s10+ for years now. Thought about upgrading a few different times. Just not impressed with the newer s phones..
The screen is all busted on my phone now, the battery life sucks, and it's time to buy a new one. I use my SD card slot. I use my headphone jack. I think I'll just buy an unlocked s10+ for 200 bucks and be happy. Samsung needs to do something actually innovative and I'll buy a new phone.
Buy Sony phone, they still retains those features although the price can get quite expensive
S21 ultra was best one in recent times
S10plus will stop receiving updates soon, I too have been waiting for a worthwhile upgrade. The s23 ultra might not be groundbreaking, but compared to my S10plus it will be a great phone, and with the trade in offers, it'll practically be free.
@@salvadormadrigal8077 Yea, only reason I'm weary of trade in offers is because I have Verizon and they offer their deals in bill credits. So $800 off the phone is paid in partial bill credit every month for 2 years. If any time you wanna switch carriers you will owe all the remaining "$800 off". So it's only practically free by locking yourself into a long term contract. *sighs*
@@salvadormadrigal8077 it's 2023 and people still believe there's anything in life that's "free" ...
Finally decided to upgrade my Note 9. Only now starting to see some slow down. That's why I love Samsung Notes. Your good with them for like 4-5 years.
I'll be honest, this phone is slower than I expected. My S21 Ultra was faster.
First HUGE change is exynos! This is absolutely MASSIVE for us old exynos users. Second HUGE CHANGE One ui 5 which has gotten rid of those dreadful micro stutters and awful animations. So I don't know why this guy is referring to small changes!
That notch is disgusting
Meh. I'll stick with my s22 ultra until they come out with a 10x with 8k sensor. That'll be AWESOME
All the reviewers comparing to the crappy S22 Ultra, which was a minimal tweaked phone from the true flagship S21 Ultra is a joke!
Minor upgrades!!
Like new ram, storage, top of the line cpu, new sensor, better stabilization, clearer sharper photos in all zoom modes, smoother, faster, better speaker sound.
It's night and day.
The s23 Ultra is the new king, the S22 was never nothing more than a filler phone.
If you own and S22 Ultra, ditch it!
I had the S21 Ultra which is still a great phone, and would rather still have that than the S22 Ultra!
The S22 Ultra was and still is, for ALL intents and purposes, a great phone! Definitely not a diminutive upgrade from the S21 Ultra. The S23 Ultra, however, is consistently, slightly better at a plethora of key areas which in summation, leads to it being a MUCH BETTER overall package despite the "slight improments" that all UA-camrs are stating.
