Crazy how spending £440 on a phone is considered "cheap"
It's cheap for people living on a 1st world countries
Cheap and expensive are relative to value.
This video is comparing the value of X to half of its original value, thus illustrating the relativity between expensive and cheap.
Perhaps if you already knew this basic understanding, you would be more successful and less stingy seeing gadget priced at £440 as cheap.
Cheap Compared to a £840 phone
come on 440 is cheap are you still living in the early 2010s??
@@CrazyMilkman27 so what's your definition of 1st world countries you should research about it first and then make the comment in future ok
I was willing to pull out another $400 more for the S series but then Samsung had to go out of their way to try to get even more money from us by removing the SD card slot and expect us to pay more for online storage. So, I went with the A55 and save about $400. Thanks Samsung. Excellent business decision.
Same! Ugh. So disappointing.
And then we work where we cannot even go online. The idiots in white suits don't understand a day's real work.
well they are jealous with Apple for not having a memory card that's why Samsung removed the sd expansion in their flagship phones which a really hige deal breaker for me.
Been using S series, it gifts everything u wants. But do you really need it? And tbh A series give you everything you need with cheaper price 😅
I would buy S24 because of the size
You forgot to mention that the s24 has 7 years of android updates where as the a55 has only 4 years.
That's a really good point!
Will an S24 battery last 7 years without replacement? Guess a half way replacement after around 3 years can be done...
@Negativvv I'm still using my A71!,& the battery after three years is still decent for my usage, yes it's under half the time of seven years but my battery is smaller,so depending on how you use it the battery could likely see you through without change
@@Negativvv almost definitely not, but that's the point. Instead of coughing up 1000$ more, you get the battery replaced for 100$ max and keep it going. Additionally, you get to save yourself the trouble of moving all your data onto another phone
@@demi5136 Now a days its pretty quick to switch your phone data around with Samsung.
Got the A55 and absolutely love it.
Do ya?
Me too
Depends from where you're from, really. If the citizens from a certain country are wealthy and the cheapest phones u can get are within the $400, then that phone is cheap for them.
Why not pick poco X6 Pro with better spec ?
@@Alicia_tan99 usually I stick with a phone for at least 3 years so with my past experience Samsung's performance doesn't drop much. Besides it's easier in case I need after services.
Really good vid. You know your stuff and present it well.
I went from A54 to S24 (base) recently and the difference between mid-range to flagship is huge with both performance and features. But it all comes down to what type of use you want to get out of your device.
Yeah, as someone who went from an A53 ( I was ready to chuck this phone because it stuttered all the time) and upgraded to the S24 NA version with Snapdragon 3 and WOW.... what a difference! I feel like if you're the type of person who takes your phone with you everywhere, get a good phone and with these you got 7 years of OS updates.
whats the biggest difference? im also using a54 and wanting to switch to base s24 just not sure if thats even remotely a good idea lol
@regardzz In my experience the biggest difference is much quicker speed and no stutters/crashes or lags. SD 8 Gen 3 chip is about the best on the market night now and IMO its worth the extra money for the phone. You'll also notice although A54 has the bigger battery (5000 mah) the S24 will still last just as long if not longer due to having the better optimized and far superior chipset plus the LTPO display can adaptively drop refresh rate down to 1hz compared to 60 on the A54. If you have the money I'd definitely go for it. Nothing at all wrong with the A54, S24 is just better in every way.
yeah my only concern is the battery, i do use apps quite a bit so yeah how about size? are they the same when held in hand?
@@masonbanks4189
@@regardzz the main difference is that when people looking at you holding a s24, they will be 😮. When you hold an A55, it will be 🥱
Got the A55 in 'ice blue', it's such a beautiful and premium feeling phone with some decent cameras, aluminum frame, latest Exynos1480 4nm chip, 5000mAh battery etc. Got it in Samsung app store for 450,- minus 50,- discount and with Buds FE (75 euro) so for just 325 euro🎉
The A55 does 90% of what an S24 does for 1/3 of the price 👍
Nah man. The s24 is way better than the A55. Better cameras better display brightness ect. And the exynos chip is trash.
@DuffLillie-sh3us S24 also has Exynos here in Europe. So way too expensive
Us brits just love to pay more for stuff...well at least that's what the government thinks
That's true, but by regarding the long-term use of the phone, s24 is definitely a better option with 7 years update and more powerful cheapset. Also the premium design(esp thin bezzels) make you not feel that my phone is old after several years, like that I feel the S20 series are still premium and modern.
@ThisisHamidreza Yeah well maybe. I never have a phone for 7 years, I usually skip just one generation.
ThanksMuch for posting !
My pleasure!
My pleasure!
This is interesting because I just bought my husband the S21+ (referbished-like-new) after getting a new A54 5G a few months ago. I spent about $150 on both, after sales, fees, etc. etc. I think they are a much fairer comparison, both in price, and in stats. (Not to mention the huge difference in size between your phones. My phones are within 3", barely noticeable side-by-side. The S21+ is a bit taller and very slim.) Hope this helps budget-minded people who have different use-cases.
The main differences in the A54 and the S21+ are:
-The A54 is newer, but the S21+ gets 2 or 3 more years of OS updates. It's a toss up.
-The camera on the S21+ has much better low-light handeling. Otherwise not a huge difference.
-The S21+ has a snappier, but older CPU, and a boosted GPU, allowing room for gaming if you need it. But no noticable difference otherwise. (I never have to reboot the A54, or experience slowness. I run a lot more apps than he does too.)
-The A54 has better battery life. I get 1 - 1.5 days more than my husband from a charge.
-The S21+ has wireless charging, and also Superfast charging. He can go from 0-50% in 20 mintues on my 5A charger laptop charger, over USB-C PD 3.0. But he never uses Super-fast mode because it ages the battery.
-The A54 has an external SD card slot. (They're both the same size internal disks, 128GB.) This is important to me.
-The S21+ has 2 more GB of RAM (8GB vs 6GB). Again, only needed for gaming and crazy-amounts of multitasking.
-The S21+ has a 120hz screen -- Nice to have but not necessary. My screen looks great.
-Admittedly, the S21+ has MUCH better external speakers. Oh well. I'll get headphones.
-The S21+ has moderate water resistance. (This is what made me decide to get it for him. He's a welder, and very hard on phones.)
-My husband is impressed with the S21+ instantanious facial recognition, due to low-light sensors, and a better GPU/CPU.
-The A54 gets a much better 5G signal inside our house (T-mobile). However, he just texted me from an airplane at 30,000 feet (Verizon.) (So fast 5G vs. extremely long-range 4G/5G signal.)
its a shame the midrangers never get usb 3. always at usb 2.0. even a 7 year old samsung s8 has usb 3.1 and will outperform the 2024 model a55 when it comes to transferring files. I use my phone as a tool (a mini computer) and this feature usb 3 is a huge difference. all the geekbench/antutu score wont mean anything when usb 3.1 is more than 20X the speed of usb 2.0
I got the galaxy s24 plus and the phone is perfect
Lucky you! I had s24 Plus for 13 days but returned it because it kept locking up. USA / ATT spec. Watching this video on a a35 with no lock uo issues
I love this video. Thanks for posting
2:36 😂😂 i likw how you've bolded the second letter I in Aluminium. Nice touch.👍🏾
😂 yes 👌
Thank you for this!
To all the people wondering about how much CPU speed actuall matters:
A normal person can baerly make use of all the extra performance that a high end chip can offer.
The baseline of a mostly smooth user experience was drawn with Qualcoms Snapdragon 801 back in 2014.
This one was fast a.f. back on android KitKat.
In 2018 I got a phone with a Snapdragon 660. This midrange chip has the exact same feel as the 801.
Extrapolating a bit into the future, a Snapdragon 7 gen 1 will already give you the best noticable userexperience.
All those computationally demanding processes occur only 0.1% of the time.
What matters to 99,9% is the general smoothness of the user experience . And objectively you get all of that with a midrange chip.
I have been using the SD660 for over 6 years now and bow it is starting to feel slow, but I must confess that my life would not be radically different if I tradet this slightly slower phone for a faster one.
Smartphones peaked somewhere around 2019.
🤓
@@HemmaRoid Booo
Your are typing FACTS brother!
They didn't. Rotation response taking a little lag is annoying. A normal user can be annoyed when loading times are longer etc.
Speed matters and always will.
you are forgetting that a better chip entails better image processing, therefore better photos, which we can see (arguably) here in the comparison
@WhatGear Can I please get a link to those awesome wallpapers you had on both phones?
You can get them at WhatGear.net/wallpapers
what clock widget is that? i don't see that on my a54
Not double the price though, ok there is still £359 but goodness me I miss my memory card support moving from my S10 plus to the S24 plus. Though because they gave me an extra birthday discount I upped it to 512 and still only (only!!!!! bloody hell) £50 more than the 24 with its 256.
This has been a very fair revue though, nice work lad. Oh, and jesus the speed of the USB C is madly fast.
Not 100% sure, but I thought the Dex feature is also only available for the S series phones. It allows you to connect your phone to a screen with keyboard and mouse and use your phone as a computer. Some people might find that a handy feature.
Yes, I believe it's the S series, also flip and fold
amazing comparison video. definitely answered all my questions
It's perplexing that we live in a world where basic stuff like a headphone jack, expandable storage and even an included charger are almost impossible to find. More reasons to hate Apple, I guess. ffs
Why hate on apple for a decision Samsung mocked and then replicated? Blame them for being so hypocritical 😂😂 They don't even include chargers on tablets anymore either
@@joshuepico75
Oh, no, I hate them both. Apple pioneered and normalised some of the most anti-consumer practises while Samsung acted like they were better then shortly did exactly what Apple did. An official Samsung charger is sold separately at $20. Fuck em both.
@@joshuepico75
Oh nah bra, I hate them both. Apple pioneered and normalised extremely anti-consumer practices while Samsung pretended to be against them. Then shortly after, Samsung copied what Apple did.
As consumers we need to stop fanboying and we need to stop supporting such corporate greed.
@@joshuepico75 Apple IS to blame for setting this up. Samsung is too blame to not being any better.
not apples fault samsung wants to be apple so much
I kinda wish the s24 had that brushes aluminium look the a55 has. And idk if anyone noticed by the simcard tray just blends im to the frame so well om the a55 it looksblike a better built phoem than the s24
still have the s10e is the a55 a good upgrade ? have no clue's about phone specs only play some game's like epic 7 pokemon go and looking ad youtube
If you dont HAVE to upgrade, just dont. Theres not really a reason for it if this is all you use it for
I am still using regular galaxy s21 with exynos 2100 (this is not America), not planning to upgrade at least until the android version update stopped, why? Because it was expensive! I don't know the next upgrade will be S series again or A series (but if it A series, maybe it will be less usage time, maybe 3 years is very maximum)
Next time on the sound test you shoyld use a bassier sound clip for the test so we can see thw base
I have the expensive model (the previous model, S23) and it has several annoying issues. When I'm using Facebook, and I click on notifications, it's always skipping back to the previous screen. But more importantly, on Google Calendar, when I'm creating an event, it's constantly making the cursor jump to the bottom of the screen, making it incredibly difficult to write in details, and it regularly will not look up the phonebook to find the email address of the person I want to invite the event. These two calendar issues are a massive issue for me, because this is how I organise all jobs for my contractors and for years with every other phone, I never had either of these issues. It's a total nightmare of a phone for me, considering I got this phone as a work phone and I should be able to work from it when I'm away from my computer, but it is really difficult to so so. I would not recommend this phone, at all.
What samsung should do is put the Snapdragon in the s range and put the exynos in the rest. Which would make sense
I always used to think my a54 is the budget king and flagship killer because how good the phone was in 2023. Until i bought the s23 .....😂
Is it night and day difference?
Yeah, anyone saying flagships are not worth it is because they are in denial of how good they are 😂, there's no such thing as a "flagship killer". The difference is pleasant and amazing!
@@joelrizkyw night and day difference in ,

@@sachiyamobilegaming2355 That’s nice to hear! I thought that the software experience will be a bit difference but I guess it depends on the performance. Maybe someday I’ll try the Galaxy S Series 😁
@@joelrizkyw sure bro and good luck. I also went from my dad baught a54 to my own s23 only with hard work !
I have the iPhone 15 plus and I enjoy seeing other phones besides the expensive ultra and pro phones
The resolution is the same so it could also be a good choice for people who wants to save money to buy the A55. Hope samsung could work on those thick bezels on the A55.
here in Brazil we have the s24 with exynos too.. So I preferred to get the S23 with SD 8 gen 2 for galaxy because sometimes I like to play some games, including emulators in general. I had a S20 with exynos 990 and for common use it was amazing, but for games it was not so good, especially for emulators. Other point is the battery with exynos generally is less efficient.
The difference in battery life between the exynos and snapdragon S24 series is negligible. Samsung has outdone themselves with this year's exynos chipset
440 dollar is cheap ?? This is monthly salary of average in india 😂
it's a yearly salary for some people in Africa, maybe even 2 years salary. what's your point? he doesn't live in India
Inko kya pta inko toh cheap hi lgta India pagal angrez saale
If u always use dark mode on screen time , so bazel things does not matter.
It's absolutely atrocious how much the Ultra throttled.. The loop score is almost half of the Exynos 2400.. Also, the AI summery got almost all of the info wrong. That's why I don't believe in AI. Spreads misinformation like crazy, it's useless. Anyways, thank you for the video!
May well get the A55 for my needs, would've loved a fuller screen as my A71 is almost full screen for a midrange phone...Will never understand why they can't give us that here when they did it before,& the M55 has basically a full screen & isn't midrange?!,anyway good video 👍🏽
Does the A55 have portrait video?
You should do S23 vs A55. The S23 was last years flagship, and it cost $400 on Amazon (the same price the A55 is)
You compared the tiny 6.2" S24 to the mid-sized 6.6" A55. That is a pretty big difference, and the 6.7" S24+ is a few hundred dollars more than the S24, at least.
What game are you playing at 11:58 ?
🇬🇧 Great work. Need to support my British comrades
I appreciate the support 💪
A month ago i upgraded my iPhone 11 for the Samsung s23. I got the 256gb used but still in perfect condition with no scratches for only £420. You will most likely get better performance from last years flagship compared to the latest flagship
Hey man can i get the sony xperia 5 mark iii please
Outstanding review and comparison!
Thanks 😊
thanks for this video, now I decided to buy A55.
Great video, but please use video tags...please
got my S23U now that's a beast
I have been using my Samsung Galaxy S10 for 5 years. I'm thinking of buying Galaxy A55.
If you can go higher in budget get an S23+
If your budget is exactly the same as the A55's...then look for alternatives.
You can get a refurbished s21 ultra at best buy for the same cost as a new A55 that might be a better alternative if you don't mind a used phone. Honestly there's minimal difference between the s21 and s24
It's a good allrounder phone, go ahead. I am enjoying mine
From Nigeria
A55 ain't worth it bro. Get a second hand s23 plus instead.
Lockscreen wallpaper link pls
Wonderful to see how many people compare it for fun and not think of using a phone out there in faraway locations, where it has to be used by geologists, engineers, doctors, pilots, mining engineers, overlanders - all applications where the limited storage on the S24 Ultra is a deal breaker. Great for kids and GenZ, for those that never do a day's work. Be more practical, think about real-world usage.
brilliant
A more fair comparison would be between A35 and A55, S series is not a fair comparison at all. And no, A55 does not bear S series phones, an older S or F series might do that for you though, which come quite cheap tbh.
My S8 gave up 2 years ago well out of warranty. The replacement S22 has just given up after 18months, well inside warranty. Samsung said it can’t be repaired and will offer an alternative. Not sure what I’m entitled to.
Whats the music used?
In finland OnePlus 12 and s24 cost same amount so I would pick 12 over s24.
For the price I go with A55
Wallpapers site link please
I'm thinking to get a new phone now, previously I had Galaxy A32 and it was decent, now I wanted to get the S24, but I'm on a tight budget, so I think I will get the A55. It's pretty good and I've never been crazy about too expensive and high-performance phones. The A55 is perfect.
Go with the A35 it's cheaper and not much different to the A55.
Love your videos especially this one can you smell what the rock is cooking ✊🏿♥️ watch from my s24
Please describe the sound stereo quality, we can only hear from our phones sound quality. it sound the same
I went from S10e to A55, and performance wise the A55 is much better and the 120Hz screen feels smooth.
However, even though the camera in the A55 offers much better detail, it feels laggy when you take photos compared to the S10e. The is also the case for apps that use the camera in AR.
Nice wallpapers
you forgot to mention LTPO, after getting my A52s and being unable to use 120hz about a year and a half later, I realise that it's a huge dealbreaker in battery life
Why were u unable to use it? Doesn't A52s also have a 120Hz panel ?
@masquerade_phantomx9270 yes, but 120hz drains alot of battery when there is no LTPO, and with battery degradation, you are forced to either use 60hz or change the battery
@@BallerShortsHD Ooo I see
So still confused by conflicting statement's from different places, does the A55 5g have wireless charging or not?
not😉
The whole A series currently doesn't support wireless charging.
You should try the Samsung z flip 5 and z fold 5
Which one do think is the better option?
I got the s24 ultra. I've always had the S series. And I wouldn't have it any other way. Still interested in what your video has to say tho, so here I am 😊
S24 easily but it does depend on a person's needs
I got the A55 via trade in for the A54. 256 Gigs Model for 280€ 👍
I got the s23 fe . Its an amazing device . Does 99 percent of the s23 and s24 st a cheaper price .
Galaxy A55 is a good option...save loads...and looks like a good phone if yer like your Samsung phones
S23 with snapdragon or s24 exenes
A55 doesn’t support 4k 60fps according to GSMarena. Please correct me if i am wrong.
Yes that is true you cannot record 4k 60fps but can do in 30fps.
You can still recording 1080p 60fps
I have the S23, I can record 4k 60fps 8k 24fps 1080p 120fps not slow mo its normal recording.
He lied to you
The 3rd extra factor is that s24 has Dex. And also more pocketable.
11:28 - AI Summarize web page has a mistake - A55 5G is powered by a 4nm Exynos 1480 processor
Its not 5nm Exynos 1280 processor. Samsung needs to fix bugs in AI.
I like the bigger Akku from the A 55. I most need the phone for social media, watching films, listen music and chat with friends. oh and the A55 wouldnt be so hot like the S24. i had this problem with the s21. Im Summer i only use the phone for listen music and after 30minutes - 1hour the phone goes out automatically because it was to hot. And i hated it. So the A55 hasnt this problem.
the only real advantage with with S series are DEX and wireless charger other than that a friend of mine just got A55 its good phone. For everyday user A55 is better and cheaper option
i have been using the A54(8/256 $327) since January 2024... on April i switched to A55(12/256 $413)because i needed the E-Sim... on May i switched to S24(8/512 $815)because i felt the A55 was a bit slow...other than the smaller size. the S24 for sure is faster. but i cant justify the price difference between the A55 and S24...
When it comes to value for money, people should think carefully about what is important to them and what they actually use on a daily basis.
Because for most people it won't matter in everyday life whether USB 3.x including Dex or USB 2.0. I have both an S20 model and the A54. And I actually hardly ever use Dex.
And it is completely irrelevant whether an app opens a little faster or not, because once the applications are open, there are no major differences. We're talking about fractions of a second here.
In addition, longer videos in 4K60 or 8K are real memory hogs. 256GB fills up very quickly - and having a memory card is not only safer, it also saves time because you don't have to constantly swap out the files.
The A55 is completely sufficient for most games, not everyone plays Genshin Impact for hours.
And the workmanship is visibly almost indistinguishable. In this respect, I now consider the S models to be overpriced, because the A55's competitor is the S24+. And that costs almost 3x as much - for around 15% more use in everyday life.
For anyone who wants to surf, stream, take snapshots and occasionally play games, the A55 is the much better choice - and the money you save can be sensibly invested elsewhere.
Sven is about facts and real talk🎉
0:20
bruh with this logic oneplus, redmi, realme, oppo, vivo, iqoo phones are way more value for money than A55
in india a55 is considered such a waste of money because in same prize u can get specs close to s24 lol
Data transfer is faster and easier if you use QuickShare for A55 since its port is limited to USB 2.0
Even if you want to transfer via WiFi (QuickShare), it will be limited by MicroSD speed via overhead and so on. Since WiFi 6, at ideal real time, has 1.2 Gbps, at best it will be a bit slower.
In short, A55 is 80% of S24 features.
You will feel the main differentiation is camera and Ai features.
If you only use your phone as mean of communication and entertainment, A55 is enough.
Oh, just remember than S24 has 7 major android support while A55 has 4 major android support.
So, in a long run, S24 might be better for 2nd hand market
It would be better if you have compared it with S24 plus (the battery, weight and screen would be a match) cos it's bigger
Yes, in hindsight that would have worked better 🤦♂️
If I had the money I'd get the S24 just because the more powerful CPU will last longer.
However because I don't have money I'm looking at the A35 and possibly the A55 if I can find a good discount.
You could trade in some other devices in the samsung store. i traded in an iphone SE 2020 and got the A35 for 289€ instead of 449€ (the 256GB/8GB model). I couldn't justify the price increase for the A55.
@@brotherhoodofnod8852 Sadly they don't offer trade ins here in Cyprus. There isn't a Samsung store or website. You have to buy the phone from a tech shop or Network Provider.
You can also consider A54, which was pretty much rebranded as A35.
@@futurafrlx8874 Yes I went to the shop on Saturday evening to see but the A54 was priced identical to the A35....
@@MrOrtmeier a35 is a better a54

Still love my Samsung Z Fold 3!
My A73 beats Galaxy A55 all the day. That's why Samsung stopped A7x series. It was too GOOD with GREAT CAMERA!
Hey! Is that S24 the cobalt violet color?
Yes! It's a really nice colour option in my opinion
@@WhatGear fantastic, thanks! I wanted to see it in person but my local store didn't have it. So I'm glad you featured it here! It's beautiful😍
@@normal4810and did you bought it already ? 😂
Had A55, good phone but no wireless charging was a dealbreaker for me.
The base models of samsungs s series are basically a joke to me. The camera hardware remains unchanged for years now and pair that up with the low battery capacity, slow charging and the return of the exynos chips, there are just tons of better phones at the price-point they are selling it. The only saving grace that they have is literally just their software imo.
Honestly, rather than buying the A55 now. It's better to buy older flagships like the S22 plus.
Almost the same price or lower, better screen, better build and design (for me, the S22 series peaked at design), better processor, great cameras, and great overall experience.
You can also make a video about this 😅😅.
Is it worth it to buy older flagships like S20 or S21 than the new mid range like the A55 or A35?
But still.. kodus to samsung creating one of the most premium looking mid range phone👏
(They could have done the bezels of the screen much better though 😅)
This is where last years s23 comes in.
Yeah here in my country the s23 is 100 more(540€) but its worth it
why did you crop the edges of the A55 in photoshop?
In the photo section?
@@WhatGearin the thumbnail...
@@TheusmaNorata that's not photoshopped at all. That's exactly how the bezels are
Really insulting how you're calling a £440 phone "cheap"
i rather buy the oneplus 12r with snapdragon 8 gen 2 than samsung exynos.
I´m currently using the a55 and so far it´s been very good
Only con are the rather thick bezels
I love the A55 but it's to big,i like small phones,I have a Samsung s23 and even that is a to big screen for me😅
how horrid that all these new phones dont allow for micro sd cards, a tb of storage is like 50 bucks and they simply remove that option, so now you gotta spend over a hundred extra to get 128gb more. and what if your phone gets lost or destroyed? they want it all in the cloud. My phone broke and i can recover al data from the micro sd, but these damn new phones dont have any slot to input it.
no so futuristic now is it
And just what is that emanating smell from this video? However the Samsung s24 is currently available for less than £420 on Amazon.
You must be a rich man to call 400 cheap 😅
I trade in the regular iPhone 15 for regular s24 so happy I make the right move
6 mm thicker? Do you mean lengthier?
0.6 😂 damm I knew there was something I needed to fix
Of course there's no charger. You don't get one with any samsung. Havent for a while now. Also, if it doesn't have wireless charging it can be added for like $15
