Reminder, DO NOT READ THE COMMENTS - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED Edit: I'm really happy my comment from 6 years ago has helped a lot of people be unspoiled. Only recently started getting notifications about this one and boy did this catch me off guard.
I'm glad they gave Tiberius a good send off honestly. It was a nice thing to do to remove him from the world, since Orion was never coming back, while showing he died a hero fighting the dragon and then giving him a temporary, decent burial. It was really sad but definitely something that needed to be done and handled this well.
@@exodore2000 He's not even a character. The player owns the right to the character, so regardless of what happened, they would have needed his permission.
I was waiting for percy to admit he also went to see the raven queen, and that he understands. That would've been a very deep conversation, even deeper.
I do not want to die who I am. I want to live long enough to become someone else. What Percival said there is one of the most incredible sentences I've ever heard and it deserves so much praise.
watching Laura/Vex so subtly be absolutely destroyed that Percy doesn't remember all those important moments between them, all the wonderful things he did for her, is actually heartbreaking. Travis is actually concerned for her. Laura Bailey you are incredible

The book is magical, so I would assume it would not be “deleted information” in the way memories are. At least it wouldn’t be at a table I was DM’ing. But then again, I am there to give my players the opportunity to be great heroes, not ruin their fun by giving them stuff that can only be used once a century and have them waste the magic.
Just want to give extra kudos to Taliesin for not coming out and saying it, but setting it up perfectly for Matt to do the reveal with his characteristic eloquence. Could have gone so many different ways, but he held it in for 20 minutes until the moment was right. Big kudos.
I just watched this moment. 8 times. First time i just heard it and went cold. Then once again watching only one face. As their expressions changed at different moments...
I just realized, that moment when the dragons were flying by Whitestone, Vax takes Keyleth's side and Vex takes Percy's side. Probably not intentional but works out nicely to each character and their relationships, Vex and Percy: pragmatic; Keyleth and Vax: impulsive but with good intentions.
@@Rockitfilm94 nothing, that's the joke :) their feed cut out, so when they came back Sam made a joke to make it seem like we missed something exciting
Travis' reactions to every story beat are beautiful to watch. He's got the facial expressions of a five year old listening to fairy tales and it's so pleasing.
I love the way you can see everyone trying to figure out what's happening when Percy tells the Dragonborn to take Tibs' body down. Laura instantly gets it but doesn't want to believe it, Travis gets it and just looks shocked like "no, what? No... What?!", Liam just sits and waits to see what happens, Marisha just looks confused as to what's going on, and Sam is just like "what's going on, what's the fuss about"? The worst part about the ceremony is when Lockheed doesn't want to leave Tibs... That hits the feels like nothing else.
I seem to be the only one who thinks Travis looked happy. Where Laura looked really emptional I got a different read on Travis. Not sure why, he did seem really pissed at Orion at the end,OR he could have been thinking Matt's going to give him a good end. 3:43 45seconds he starts to get it and at 3:44 15sec (ish) he's smiling.......

spoiler 3:43:18 What I love about Percy being the one to know that it was Tiberius is that he nonchalantly selects a body so as not to let on that he knows who it is to the Ravenites, and then proceeds to tell the rest of the group not to react. It's just so in character and such a well thought out response to the situation. I honestly thought he was going to make up some story about taking the body back to examine it for future disguise references.
I don’t know if you caught it, but he also veeeery cautiously asked how the Draconians ended up on the spikes. He was prepared to kill the Ravenites then and there if they said it was them. Love Percy so much
2:43 at night where I'm at with college in a few hours.... i am a filthy mess. I remember hearing about this moment from watching ahead (tried to catch up a long time ago, but I couldn't keep up with the time) ... I am a mess right now. Here's to Tiberius Stormwind. May you find the arcane wonders you've been searching for in the next life. And may you reunite with your family (VM) when their times come.
don't read if you haven't seen the episode yet that was absolutely perfect. Grog pouring water instead of ale and Scanlan's 'poppycock' remark made me cry harder. I'm thankful that he died a hero. Knowing him, he probably spent all of his sorcery points on fireballs.
Pia B *sniff* the bastard probably tried to use 2 leveled spells in a single round too. *blows tissue* To an dumb and stubborn, but courageous Dragonborn.
Playing Grog must be so frustrating for Travis at times. He always has great ideas but he either can't express them through Grog, or gets dismissed because it is Grog. What a guy.
From a character that doesn't get heard as much beyond his own arc unless he's making a big statement, to acting as the party's face in the second campaign. It's a startling difference.
I had a thought about that, it would be a good time for Matt to make a joke magic 8ball that "randomly" generates words or phrases. Or even a lightly cursed item...that only effects people of intelligence of 10 or grater. So he could be in character just shacking this shiny thing muttering words that's actually just him indicating he has an idea that's he's too stupid to actually come up with in character. But anybody with a 10 in intelligence it just gives the worse possible advice.
The turning into a Gorilla with the samt INT, or getting a companion dog with higher INT, must be challenging as heck to deal with. Travis is, subtly, absolutely brilliant RPing Grog
@@darkvizardking69 all of them, really. Liam C1 "how even does magic?!" to wizard. Sam from plus a billion Charisma to negative a billion Charisma. Noble and dark Percy to flamboyant, gold hearted Molly. Watching them all go so drastically different is such a treat!

Was a great episode, but I wasn't expecting to get my heart ripped out in the last 15 minutes like that. Final nails in the coffin were Scanlan saying "Poppycok" and Grog remembering water for Tibbs.
Just caught up to this point while I was waiting for the carpet cleaner to arrive. Of course he showed up right after Scanlan's 'poppycock'...ugh, trying not to look like I just got wrecked. Holy cow. I knew this was coming from the moment the sphinx told them about Draconia falling, but damn Matt is masterful at ripping everyone's hearts out.
it's heartbreaking seeing everyone's reactions to tibbs. it's yet another reminder that they had orion for two years more than we knew tibbs, and more than a character, they're still morning the loss of a friend that couldn't be in their lives anymore. god bless these people for still having so much love in their hearts even though orion was a pain in the ass.
Watching this years later give massive perspective of this too this was a “bad break up” so to speak they lost a real genuine friend through drugs and he then became jaded that they got so much fame and love that even now years after he refused to let them use Tibs in the legend of vox
@@demona4151 Or, orrrrrrr: they're still humans with emotions. And they still lost a friend they played in private with for two years. They shared memories, highs and lows together. Voice actors or not, they still feel things.
@@MissTaylorDani Hell yeah, they may be actors but the circumstances behind Orion leaving/being forced to leave CR would be awful for anyone involved in the situation. He may have been annoying but the dude was going through a lot, and his friends probably knew it. CR is nice to watch because you can tell that they genuinely care about each other, and the end of this episode shows this IMO.
If he hadn't continued to be the *worst* person after leaving, we might have actually been able to get Orion back for one shots. But no, no, he had to send disgusting packages to their homes, threaten members of geek and sundry, and leak Ashley's phone number, steal more money from the charity he had suggested, ruin his reputation.. We wanted to know Tibbs the way they knew Tibbs. Orion ruined it by being horrible.
I also really like those moments such as Vex's post-break words where the player, unprompted by Matt, gives a disadvantageous situation to their character that makes perfect sense - another good recent one was Percy panicking when blinded, and there's always Grog raging back in Episode 11 when his cask of ale was ruined. It makes the characters feel even more real (somehow).
A bit late here obviously, but! I think it's because it makes them feel more real because in real life we do stupid shit all the time for emotional (not logical reasons). They are acting to their own disadvantage because it makes sense that their character would do it, even if it is a waste of resources. I agree whole-heartedly that it is awesome. :)
I'mAlex I was reacting just like the party was at first. I was thinking he was out of his mind. Then it turned out to be a really smart recovery from a past mistake. Props to Scanlan for proving that he deserves to wear the mustache.
Sam is probably the most impressive D&D player of the bunch. The whole time his motivation is to incite a battle between Thordak and Vorugal, and the team, through parts of the episode, didn't agree to the plan or backed out eventually. Even Grog backed out and it was his plan to begin with! Scanlan on the other hand, takes the mistake of mentioning Whitestone and opens up maybe the best opportunity to start that battle between Thordak and Vorugal. The battlefield tilts and wanes at the whim of Scanlan Shorthalt. Oh and then even with the modify memory, and knowing the consequences of mentioning Whitestone, Keyleth mentions Whitestone again 3:53:16...SMH...
In that regard, Scanlan is the sharpest tool in the shed, ahead of even Percy. Keyleth has the highest Wisdom stat, and yet is utterly clueless most of the time. Even Grog's insight and sharpness are ahead of hers. Odd indeed.
I would consider the memory alter less of a smart move and more of a high risk, possibly moderate reward play. Constantly arguing for actions that would in all likelihood draw attention to them before they could possibly be ready and blurting out information that put them at a disadvantage much like mentioning Whitestone by name isn't exactly a sign of high tactical thinking, though I will give props for his quick thinking. The problem is that had it not been successful, they would like have a fight on their hands...inside of a Dragon's lair. That being said I don't really fault him or any of the other players for slip ups like that because even with a strong imagination it's easy to forget or not consider certain details that seem obvious in hindsight when you don't have a real visual perspective. Also, they're just mechanical stats, they don't actually reflect player thought processes people so the unnecessary Keyleth jab is well...unnecessary.
This was definitely a great decision, but it should be noted that Taliesin likely suggested it when he leaned in and whispered to Sam just beforehand at 3:40:43.
I think when Matt said that he had to be careful, he was talking about how he was going to handle the whole Draconia/Tiberius bit. I must say that I thought this was done very well.
Despite how somewhat divided the fanbase seems to be on the events that transpired at the end, I think it was a wonderful and tactful sendoff for a character. It seemed to be pretty emotional for some of the group as well
They have mentioned before that to them, a part of them felt these characters were alive and people they knew. They'd played for two years before this, though less frequently. I'm not saying that these people aren't capable actors, but I think at least on some level all of them felt a palpable pang of loss and grief. Whether related to the real life circumstances or to simply the character that theirs knew.
@@jtjpro13 Exactly. Regardless of real life circumstances with Orion, Tiberius is still a character canon within the story and world. And within that canon Tiberius traveled with Vox Machina for a long time before going back to Draconia. At the very least the characters who liked Tiberius would be sad to see him die.
@Leisure yup. Marisha's fake cry while trying not to show how bored she was with not being the spotlight was so cringe worthy though. Looked like laura/liam actually felt that scene though. If they were just acting kudos to them. As usual marisha ruined the scene for me though 😒

The whole tail thing made a lot of things click into place for me. Why Tiberious and Tofor hated each other when they first met, Gern's story about dragons with tails treating him like a slave. That's a nice little bit of narrative there... I wonder if that was something Matt came up with when he made Draconia or if Orion suggested it.
@@limroto dragonborn can't have tails in the official lore and aren't dragons. If you see a "dragonborn" with a tail it is a half dragon which are dragons. Dragonborn are from some weird alternate universe that is ruled by dragons. In that world dragons enslaved the dragonborn for hundreds of year so all dragonborn hate anything to do with dragons including half dragons.
Thanks to Orion anytime I hear "Draconia" I hear him saying "I'm Tiberius Stormwind, and I'm from Draconia" It was honestly one of my favorite parts of his character
I know I am late to the conversation, but Tiberius also could rip a lot of damage. Keyleth could also take a lesson in how to introduce yourself to a potential friend. That her "reasoning parlay" is deemed wise seemed like pure luck. Did they even introduce themselves... as from Aman (Don't mention White Castle, lol)? No clear description of these cities & continents? It it that obvious the six of you are serious dragon-slayers I know these are suppose to be the oppressed underclass but they did have a library and they do have a wise leader. So please stop with the Xena-speak. Seriously, watch some C-Span. Also Marisha, if you should ever read this check out the TED Talk by ecologist Suzanne Simard on how trees talk to each other. Stuff every druid should know and it's real!
Don't forget his teleport, his *light!* spell, and -prejes- ... -prisse- ... the spell he used for cleaning stuff!😜 ( I learned Prestigitation can be used for tons more things! Shame he didn't seem to know that...😑)
No matter your opinions on Orion, this was truly sad to watch. Especially since these guys proved that they're able to set aside their own feelings about Orion and pay tribute to the character who was a friend to their characters.
I think it might have actually been more the opposite for many of them. Marisha and Orion were very good friends before the stream, as he was good friends with a lot of them. Seemed partially like they were sad about the loss of their friend they'd known for years before this ever started
Alex Gulino I agree. As someone who went through a very bitter and painful break up with a formerly very close and cherished friend, I can totally relate to the cast’s reaction in that scene and completely believe it’s more than just roleplaying but actually mourning the relationship they used to have.
I love that Percy held strong and stopped Keyleth from basically dooming everyone (no Keyleth hate here, just her that her fear almost killed a whole load of innocent people). That shows real guts, balls and leadership from Percy. Great acted scene from Taliesin and Marisha. What an ending to this show...
Perhaps, but I don't think he minds. He's fairly easy going, gets what he wants, and is quite amused by the rest of the chaos that goes on around him. He is the most cunning, so definitely the most dangerous if he ever truly turned evil.
Ah... but where does Keyleth start and Marisha end? Therein lies the eternal mystery that makes paper and pen roleplaying so much deeper than video games ever could.
Idk, Marisha (as herself, trying to clarify) clearly said that she wanted to cast the spell underneath the bubble. I think everyone was panicking too hard to think straight at that point.
*Mordirit* Problem with this is that the lowest possible clouds are 2.400 m (8.000 ft) high. And I am pretty sure that this bubble doesn't go that high. This buble would've to be over 2.400 m (8.000 ft) high to write anything in the coulds while having it under the bubble. Why would you create such high protective bubble above the city when the thing you want to protect from is known to fly a lot? It doesn't make any sense. So either Keyleth would just write it high enough so the dragon can see it clearly above the bubble or the bubble would be so high that the dragon would just flew in there while crossing over the city. Unless Matt would bend the rules of nature, again, for Keyleth's spell to work the way Marisha wants. EDIT: Oh, so I watched a little bit further and the dome is about 80-100 ft tall. There's no fucking way there are clouds under the roof of the dome.
Oh wow, that's really good point. Hypothetically, had the Ravenites been the cause of the bodies on the spikes, "we were defending ourselves from the Draconians" would be a solid story that would work on any other group... in an alternate universe, Vox Machina would have turned all those caves to glass.
Spawnie1989 Honestly, I thought that he was going to leave Tiberius completely out of it, since "legal reasons" had been brought up over the split, and Tibs would technically be Orion's IP(?). Sad as it was I'm glad the group (and the audience) got some closure.
Spawnie1989 Yeah. I knew already, but I knew right then. So sad how they were trying to say “Maybe he’s in another dimension!” And all Some Joyce & Buffy Summers level shit
@@Aplesedjr I remember reading that although Orion left the show, it wasn't due to them hating him, but rather issues Orion was having in his life (which he wrote about somewhere), and those issues were then translating indirectly to the group. If I had to guess, Matt and Orion probably discussed what was going to happen to Tiberius and had a mutual agreement beforehand. Remember, Matt gave Tiberius a very nice farewell many episodes ago.
Well his personal story was leading him into the Fey wild to find his next forgotten relic. It made perfect sense for him to be on another plan during this time frame.
"It's the open spaces where I suffer." "Never trust me." "Like me. I want to earn your like, but never trust me." - That's a cerebral, big picture character, well-positioned as a potential ruler.
It pains my heart watching Laura wiping tears off of her face as she plays Vex, who's sad about Percy losing his memory of the Feywild . I think it's less about the title he'd given her and more about the time they spent together. I'm so glad Pike managed do restore him.
I think it's also about the circumstances Percy gave her that title. It was his way of taking her side and sticking it up to her father who she has difficult and bad relationship with. That moment for Vex was much more than just getting the titile
She already had the title back. I absolutely think Vex was crying because this seven day period changed her relationship with Percy, drew them closer and allowed her to lean on him, and made her realize who she loved. And he had forgotten all of it. I think she was heartbroken at the loss. Nothing could ever bring back the closeness and revelation of those seven days if the memories were gone for good. (I was so glad Greater Restoration worked!)
I was so so so angry that this had happened ot them. Such heartfelt character growth and interaction jsut... gone, and only from one side. This is why memory manipulation stuff is my existential fear, and drives me into a primal unease, a screaming sobbing mess. Just try to imagine the ramifications of losing something significant. Loosing a loved one that you cant ever remember having had in hte first place. Waht of you would also be lost? How much of hte person you fought tooth and nail to become would just be ...gone, reset, removed and replaced by a you that you had tried so desperately to escape? As a survivor of emotional and psychological abuse, this destroys me. This scared me on a level nothing else can touch, to think that someday someone could wake up and just be a completely different person, and never know it. To be thrust back into the place they tried so hard ot crawl out of, and never even know that teh people that helped them the first time were ever there. All it takes is losing the memory of one person, or one event, on chance meeting, and you could simple forget that you had ever decided to be the you that you fought to be. It is terrifying on an indescribable level, and even this lesser form, just losing a couple of days of wonder and soft words, it's terrible, and devastating. And while it's fictional for us, it's real for hte characters. I am so glad that it didn't have to be a permanent thing. But my god, I am terrified of that spell now.
@@Luinta I agree that it's horrifying, but it makes sense to me that Sam doesn't get that for a long, long time. He has never played D&D or RPGs and plays this (purely, which is great, good or bad) -- as a game. If Scanlan can modify someone's memory and he lives, great. He doesn't get at first how repellent this is in the larger picture. I definitely appreciated as time went on that you could see changes in Sam's portrayal of Scanlan -- from a caricature "funny guy, no feelings, stalking Pike" to a genuinely complex person -- and I really do love that and find the journey worth it. But he is also playing according to Scanlan's alignment, and Scanlan is like, "if they don't know, will it hurt them?" So it's upsetting but -- believable. The only use of Modify Memory I've seen that I loved was Laura's in C2. Because it was justifiable, a good counteracting evil, and saved a friend.
@@paramitch oh I know, and his roleplay really kicks up in c2 with Nott. It's incredible. Sam became a fave in c2. It's the situation specifically that plays on a primal fear of mine am snakes it just so...vicerally upsetting.

But only a few called Scanlan out of it. Nice.... But hey, it’s DnD and it’s fun to do it! :D I love all of them. I just don’t like the double standard and negativity towards the other players. @@godturkey4098 When Scanlan nonchalantly mentioned "Whitestone" among the Ravenites. They got in trouble but Scanlan fixed it immediately. There is no hate or at least constructive criticism. But when Keyleth (and Vex) did something similar (Even though it won't affect them negatively as much) or just plain annoying? Explosion of hate. I don't mind constructive criticism of Keyleth's behavior. But most of the noisy ones are attacking her as if they know the character more than the player and some are just plain sexist and rude. The double standard is hard to ignore sometimes. I just accept everything they do as I see it. This is their game and we are lucky to see them play it. If I got annoyed, that's fine. Oh Tiberius. The love/hate relationship the fandom has for you. BUT this episode nobody can say they were not touched in the feels by it. We the viewers only had Tiberius for the first 27 episodes but the players had him for 2 years prior to that. To them he was more than a character, he was a friend.
I agree wholeheartedly. I empathize with their saying goodbye to Orion symbolically. It’s honestly really sad to see a friendship dissolve metaphorically and I’m real life.
@@luc-i-guess There was a serious and sad reason for Orion's quirks and behavior. You shouldn't talk about it, but read up on it yourself, its easy to find on the internet. But again, quite the sad story. So better not joke about it.
The last 15 minutes are amazing story telling and acting. It's heartwrenching stuff because I see it as not just Vox Machina losing a long time friend and companion, but as the cast of Critical Role losing a long time friend themselves. It's not just acting anymore it's their way of revealing how much they cared for a friend who couldn't be part of their lives any more. Absolutely devastating but beautiful in its own way
As far as I'm aware, at least Sam and maybe Matt and Liam are still friends with him. He just couldn't be on the show any more because he was really bringing the mood down, cheating (straight up flipping his dice rolls when no one was looking), and kinda trying to make it The Tiberius Show. I like Orion as a person and an actor, but the show has been better since he left, in my humble opinion
@@SarahGekkou You aren't wrong. Once he left you can feel the show progress in a more smooth fashion. Not gonna lie, at least in this moment Tiberius went out in a glorious fashion that was fitting.

It's been a little odd and also pretty cool having a character sharing a name with me be on the show. He's pretty cool too. I wonder if Matt took it from Labyrinth as well...
the look on Matts face at the end is how you judge a good DM he is literally reading his players the way his eyes move he genuinely cares about them and wants them to be ok even when the story turns dark
"This spell [Modify Memory] is one of my favorite spells in the game." - Matt, 2016 *uncontrollable giggling* - Me, 2020 . . . [Edit: there are now SPOILERS for C2 downthread - FYI]
Vax insight checks Assum, asks Gilmore how he is afterwards instead, then when Gilmore suggests using a teleportation circle he has outside the city, Vax quickly suggests walking instead.. Hmmm....
Damn, I'm several years late, and I know that the situation around Tiberius' voice actor is messy. But I have to say I cried like a baby. It was a beautiful send off to a character that meant a lot to everyone in Vox Machina. It was heartbreaking but amazing
@@GrayEmbry It's a long-running gag among fans. Campaign two does use milestone leveling, and it just so happened that on multiple occasions, in the sessions where Matt told them at the end that they level up, one of them had had sex. Now, that's either complete coincidence or it tells us something about how their characters deal with high-stress situations, but because it happened multiple times, there's a joke going around that they level up through sex xD
You know what I love the most out of this episode? Travis's expression right at the end of matt's monologue... The small smile that crawls on his face and then stays like that as he commends Matt. Nothing short of wonder, pride and amazement and it's fucking wonderful.
Yes, he did deem pretty over-joyed at the sight of the permanent erasure of an earlier AND constant scaly shopping pain-in-his-side. A kind man indeed... :/
I think what Varsidian is trying to say is Travis is appreciating the monumental storyline moment Matt has just created using Percy's non-snitch critical perception. It's easy to say they couldn't scry on Tiberius because he's dead, but Matt took the opportunity to make a moment out of it, and it was truly touching. Travis plays Grog very well, but this wasn't a smile of happiness that Tiberius was dead. This was him genuinely reacting in surprise and appreciation of a great moment in game.
@@veng3r663 Travis was not pleased with the fact that Tiberius is dead, he was enjoying the thrill of the incredible story unfolding in front of him. You can see this on him on several occasions, I believe even when his own wife's character had to be ressurrected in the Sunken Tomb.
@@louismeijer3461 First off the issue has been discussed to exhaustion two years ago, things went bad and unfortunately, we are forced to move on. That being said, Travis knew Vex was going to get in trouble for his behavior, I clearly remember the smile you describe and you could tell it was Travis smiling because Vex was getting what was coming. Veng3r is correct and, sorry to spoil it for you disbelievers, but Travis was indeed happy to hear Tiberius was dead, not because of some epic unfolding of a story. If you enjoy reading facial expressions observe Matt and Travis when they describe Tiberius's pet all alone. If you couldn't foretell Tibby's situation from that then maybe ease up on analysis and study for a little more. Please don't turn this into another debate.
@JGokaInfinity You say that as if someone from the crew told you directly. There is no way you can say that with any amount of certainty. Travis was dead serious a minute later, and why would he be so joyful, onscreen, about the death of a character in a tabletop RPG? No one is that vindictive.
@@theq86 Because she understood dragons as having blindsight and being able to see through illusions. Because the "tarp" was new and not presented as a people can literally not see the city underneath / possibly the Mirage Arcane spell. Because she were playing with the "say you cast the spell or lose the opportunity"-.attitude.
@@TheChiliconkarma because just like in the freaking FeyWild she NEVER EVER LISTENS TO ANYONE EVER!!!! She thinks she's knows better than everyone else. She ALWAYS jumps the gun. And it would have been HER THAT WOULD THAT HAVE GOTTEN EVERYONE KILLED IF SHE HAD SHOT OFF THE SPELL. She's not an arcanist I'm pretty sure Alura & the others took blind site and true site into account. And honestly on what is my 5rd re watch of C1 I get the the Keyleth hate, she's thoughtless, self righteous, immature, disrespectful to Vax's religious conviction, keeps him on a string forever when she could have just said NO OR YES instead she whined and said "I'm afraid to say yes because you're going to die". Which made him dump on someone he could loved and been REALLY happy with. But kept him around while she figured it out. I used to love her but now she PISSES ME THE HELL OFF!!!
I'm guessing if Pike was there, there was no way to bring Tiberius back right? Probably failed the death rolls and everything OOC or w/e. Kinda sucks I was hoping Orion would come back for a few episodes. I dont care to know what happened between him and the group, but I'm sure it was/is for the best :-/
@@fratguide She has Revivify which works within a minute but also Raise Dead which works within like 10 days, IIRC, but the diamond has to be of considerably higher value, and I'm sure Matt's homebrew ritual DC would also be significantly higher.
Oh god this episode... I had been dreading their arrival to Draconia, knowing what they would likely find. Yet even expecting it, Matt's delivery and Taliesin's lead into it just destroyed me all the same. I was fine until pretty much everyone on the cast started crying. Goodbye Tiberius Stormwind, from Draconia, member of Vox Machina at Greyskull Keep. You died a hero.
Tiberius died a conceited fool, he never had the wisdom to know when he was out matched. He probably blew through all his sorcerer points in 6 seconds and was turned into a draconiacicle without a second thought.
@@maccrashgyver1947 yet here you are trash talking a dead character, hard to see which one of you is actually a conceited fool. This is about honor, not character. Tiberius was a lot of things but he was ultimately a part of Vox Machina and they will never be whole again without him. It was already hard for them seeing him leave the cast, there's no need for this kind of comments, especially in this episode
@@nunovpatoI mean Orion was a dick both at the table and away from it, and I never found Tiberius’ antics amusing so between the player and the character I held no respect for either. The cast were friends with him, so I understand their emotions regarding Tiberius’ fate, but to those of us who are strangers just being glad that Tiberius will never be revisited is quite a fair reaction.
@@Tra5h_boat6368We also only saw a small snippet of time with Tiberius. Vox Mochina knew him far longer than what we saw on the screen, both in and out of character. He was their friend, things went south. We don't know what he was like before they decided to start recording. They have a reason to be sad saying their final goodbyes, both to the friendship, and the character
In the same way that i see Grog as the 'Hulk' of Vox Machina, I now see Percy as the 'Bruce Banner' of Voc Machina. A traumatized genius that creates new technology and wrestles with both personal and very literal demons.
I love when sam does ingenious things like his change memory or when he cast friends on Percy to throw his Gunn away because of you rewatch the previous 20-30 seconds you can see the moment he gets his epiphanies, look through his spells, put it so together, then look at everyone go on their owntrip as he smiles them sets his plans into action
SPOILERS I've got to say that, as much as I loved Tiberius and would love to have him back, I don't really want him to be resurrected. I know it sounds insane, but this send off at this point seems almost symbolic and essential. His death is going to push the others to fight to protect the ones they love even more fiercely, just like he did. I think that by reviving him, they take away the meaning of his sacrifice, the deep respect for his courage and the genuine sorrow of losing him. This is nothing short of the perfect ending for him, anything less would be an abomination and an insult to his memory. Anyone else agree?
I know this is a way old comment but I'm catching up. In my opinion he should be brought back but not till after the entire game is over they have all won and pike is high enough level to cast True Resurrection.
When Sam casted modify memory on Tooma I was so frustrated as to why he's ruining the situation to bring up Gern. But then when he explains he was doing it to remove him accidentally mentioning Whitestone, I thought "Holy shit. He's a genius."
@@chamomillesip Thanks, was a little confused because I didn't hear the Whitestone bit the first time watching and then I couldn't find it when they mentioned it was in there because it was a little ways ahead in the video.
Also it's especially noteworthy because Tooma threatens the group with that information, showing she cannot be trusted, even if she is just doing it to ensure their cooperation. The minute she does that, Sam opens up his book and starts flipping to find Modify Memory. She done fucked up.
At this point I trust Sam with Scanlan's magic use completely. He's the most thoughtful, considerate, and deliberate spell caster of the bunch. He always puts on a show with it too and much more often than not succeeds in what he's attempting.
God, DAMN YOU MATTHEW! You nearly gave me a heart attack with that Dragon! Edit: And now, instead of a heart attack, I have heart break. Rest wherever champions go when they fall in battle... Tiberius Stormwind of Draconia.
SPOILERS I don't care what other people say about Tiberus as a character or how Orion played him, but for me he was always part of the initial "family" of Vox Machina and I'm not ashamed to say that I really did mourn his death. I don't care that Tiberus was a make believe character in an imaginary reality of a role playing game. He was still real to me. So, here's to you, Tiberus Stormwind of Draconia.
I was someone who watched the show much later but started to noticed signs that something was up. I'm not pretending that Tiberius got on my nerves after a while especially during certain segments... but I still appreciated his sense of humor and silliness when those did arise. Whether or not in or out of character Tiberious left them in a time of need and was selfish and buffoonish at times, he was a part of their original character that spanned much farther than where the stream began. Despite me being one of the people that was glad to see Orion leave, this was a powerful moment that helped remind me of all the fun that was had with him and how tragic his death was. All the pride he had in Draconia and him acting as an ambassador, just to see it in the sorriest of states.. the feels hit hard.
Megan Castle I hated Orian but liked Tiberius. I mourned the loss of both! I'm glad Orian has been figuring his shit out and is doing much better in his personal life...but Tiberius :( that was a hard loss to bear :(
i doubt there will be all that many people who would call you out for that. Hell, i cried. And people cry about imaginary characters all the time, whether it's a video game, anime or a D&D podcast.
I can't tell if Talesin was acting or if he was trully terrified at the prospect of Whitestone being destroyed by the dragons, but damn I felt his agony xDD
*SPOILERS* (While your at it get out of the comment section if you haven't watched all of it) "He loved you well princess" Me: *Heart explodes, starts crying* Scanlan: "We'll fix this, cause this is poppycock" Me: *cries harder* Also what made this sadder is just everybody reactions and poor Marisha is crying
== El Spoilerino == Aside from the feels that ending of this episode brought, I'm really looking forward to see how it is going to affect the members of VM. No matter if you liked or disliked Tiberius, he was still an original party member and honestly his death should be one of the major points for the character development for the rest. Plus if they battle Vorugal, it won't be just about fighting the Conclave but also personal revenge. I sense a really great chapter of the story coming our way!
I agree. Personally, I didn't like how Orion played (I do enjoy what he's doing with the character on his own, it seems to suit him much better), but I loved Tibs and his death was very well carried out and the players reactions were heart-breaking. To be honest, though, I feel like some of us knew it as soon as we heard about Draconia being hit.
Spoilers: Despite whatever had happened with Orion I can say that I sobbed like a baby at Tiberius' death. He was the first character that I had fallen in love and within intrigue and we'll I love all the characters now Tiberius Stormwind has a special place in my heart. I'm sad to see him go but am glad he has safely passed. To Tiberius one last time.
@@Laoruperteen18 There's a lot that happened, beyond him just getting cancer. Orion... wasn't a great person, although he seems to have improved himself and his situation somewhat these days.
@@Deiwos0 Having cancer can probably turn you into a giant wanker :P just sayin, people with cancer have a lot to worry and complain and stress about when you are also trying to be a professional at any kind of job, nevermind a job that requires you to take planes too and from your work.
@@Laoruperteen18 It goes well beyond that...drug use and domestic abuse, you can find the actual recordings of him screaming and abusing his girlfriend online. Thing is, its been established that gilmore is several levels above the party, and has several very powerful spells to back that up. Matt can't give them an NPC that strong.
3:41:34 lol I love marisha and taliesin together so much, they are so cute such good friends. Also Travis dying of laughter in the background and Liam’s “look at Matt’s face..” LOL
Normally I can't stand when shows I love have to incorporate ads into what they do. With Critical Role, I get excited when I see Mercer get up to whisper, just because I get to hear Sam plug a sponsor.
I guess the sincerity of it makes it ok. Sam always did the "plugging during whisper" joke, even long before they had sponsors, then he'd just talk about how you could subscribe to G&S on twitch to watch the show, or talk about events the cast was going to. His lootcrate jokes feel like a natural progression of that... and besides, they are hilarious =p
How am I crying? I knew this was going to happen. I'd read spoilers. I saw all the beats coming throughout the episode. And I'm still crying! What great storytelling for the Stormwind Saga!
SPOILER: Vorugal's call to the Ravenites was met with great cheering as the Sky Walkers fell. "This!" Vorugal called, "Is freedom!" Above the voices of the tailless Dragonborn, above the screams of the Sky Walkers, a single word rung out. "POPPYCOCK!" A bolt of lightning struck out from the spires of Draconia, and Vorugal's flight faltered. He turned to face this new foe, and was met with... A massive fireball. His eyes widened as the conflagration consumed his vision, and the Frigid Doom gave a great bellow. "What do you think you are?!" "I am Tiberius Stormwind, from Draconia~!"
y'all, I kid you not when Matt said "his spirit made it to the other side." The sun started to appear out of the clouds outside my window. it's like the weather was RPGing too. it was nifty.
Taliesin is such a fucking beast at planning and thinking shit through. It's actually amazing. Extremely ironic that one of the few times he does something without thinking somebody dies.

I'm glad they gave Tiberius a good send off honestly. It was a nice thing to do to remove him from the world, since Orion was never coming back, while showing he died a hero fighting the dragon and then giving him a temporary, decent burial. It’s a good thing Scanlan did not lose his memory of the Feyeild, considering that he read a pretty major chunk of his book in it.
I didn't even think about that. Dang that would've suuucked.
The book is magical, so I would assume it would not be “deleted information” in the way memories are. At least it wouldn’t be at a table I was DM’ing.
But then again, I am there to give my players the opportunity to be great heroes, not ruin their fun by giving them stuff that can only be used once a century and have them waste the magic.
the book is magic. its effect wouldnt be erased just because he forgot he read it.

3:43:18 What I love about Percy being the one to know that it was Tiberius is that he nonchalantly selects a body so as not to let on that he knows who it is to the Ravenites, and then proceeds to tell the rest of the group not to react. It's just so in character and such a well thought out response to the situation. I honestly thought he was going to make up some story about taking the body back to examine it for future disguise references.

@monkeychicken27 he rolled a nat 20 on perception at 3:19:41 and mercer told him in a whisper it was tiberius at 3:21:35
Thanks. I missed that, or my own perception was pretty low to connect that he sat on the info quietly for a bit.
I don’t know if you caught it, but he also veeeery cautiously asked how the Draconians ended up on the spikes. He was prepared to kill the Ravenites then and there if they said it was them. Love Percy so much

that was absolutely perfect.
Grog pouring water instead of ale and Scanlan's 'poppycock' remark made me cry harder. I'm thankful that he died a hero. Knowing him, he probably spent all of his sorcery points on fireballs.
My eyes still hurt... so much emotion in that moment.
Your comment made me laugh while crying.
Thanks for that.
He died as he lived. Using all of his sorcery points at once for a giant fireball

"Not all narrative is bright, but it has its purpose." --Matthew Mercer
It takes a very clever person to play a low intelligence character well, and he did an amazing job.

Was a great episode, but I wasn't expecting to get my heart ripped out in the last 15 minutes like that. Final nails in the coffin were Scanlan saying "Poppycok" and Grog remembering water for Tibbs.
I was at work when that part happened. Had to go about my business with customers while trying not to cry for the death of Tiberius 😂😭
I just watched this episode at work and it brought me to tears too. Especially the poppycock
The feels are real
Just caught up to this point while I was waiting for the carpet cleaner to arrive. Of course he showed up right after Scanlan's 'poppycock'...ugh, trying not to look like I just got wrecked. Holy cow. I knew this was coming from the moment the sphinx told them about Draconia falling, but damn Matt is masterful at ripping everyone's hearts out.
@@echoc7213 He's a master at story telling in general.
it's heartbreaking seeing everyone's reactions to tibbs. it's yet another reminder that they had orion for two years more than we knew tibbs, and more than a character, they're still morning the loss of a friend that couldn't be in their lives anymore. god bless these people for still having so much love in their hearts even though orion was a pain in the ass.
Um, felt like they showed more emotion when they thought NPC Gilmore might die.

Sam’s move to change the memory from White Stone to Emon was a stroke of genius. What a recovery!
I love the moment they all realize Percy had been sketching it's something special.

The whole tail thing made a lot of things click into place for me. Why Tiberious and Tofor hated each other when they first met, Gern's story about dragons with tails treating him like a slave. I know I am late to the conversation, but Tiberius also could rip a lot of damage. Keyleth could also take a lesson in how to introduce yourself to a potential friend. No matter your opinions on Orion, this was truly sad to watch. Especially since these guys proved that they're able to set aside their own feelings about Orion and pay tribute to the character who was a friend to their characters.
Even finding his behavior distracted and knowing this was coming I still cried especially when I saw Liam's reaction
@musicmessengers1 Yeah, it made me tear up even after I knew everything that was going on.
Apparently Matt and Orion spoke to each other about how this was gonna happen. He got to put his input to the final say of Tiberius
Mike Chan Man Percy always knows what's up. He pays attention, he always has everything figured out, and he always gets walked all over.
*Mordirit*
Problem with this is that the lowest possible clouds are 2.400 m (8.000 ft) high.
There's no fucking way there are clouds under the roof of the dome.
lots of people talk about Draconia, but the moment where Percy has everyone HOLD while the ancient white dragon bears down on them, was amazing
I love that moment. This whole episode is peak Percy.
3:23:11
That moment when you realize the real question Percy's asking is whether it's time to start dropping bodies or not.
I'm really pleased you pointed that out; I'd missed that layer of it the first time around so thank you.
Oh wow, that's really good point.
Hypothetically, had the Ravenites been the cause of the bodies on the spikes, "we were defending ourselves from the Draconians" would be a solid story that would work on any other group... in an alternate universe, Vox Machina would have turned all those caves to glass.

"I do not want to die who i am. I would like to live long enough to be someone else."

Taliesin's face as sad Percy not remembering the feywild was so adorably sad

Yes!
Just watching this series now for the first time... What happened to make Matt hate the spell?
Vax insight checks Assum, asks Gilmore how he is afterwards instead, then when Gilmore suggests using a teleportation circle he has outside the city, Vax quickly suggests walking instead.. Hmmm....
"I think we should go as ravaged Draconians."
"Yeah, that way at least they'll trust us."
Damn, I'm several years late, and I know that the situation around Tiberius' voice actor is messy. But I have to say I cried like a baby. It was a beautiful send off to a character that meant a lot to everyone in Vox Machina. It was heartbreaking but amazing
I’m even later, but I just cried myself to a headache. It was so emotional seeing them say goodbye to his friend. I’ll miss his “oh light!”
i just pretend he was always an NPC played by Matt
@@G32hero why?
And I just watched it right before work, great start lol
Now me a year after you. I was not ok.
Every time the members of vox machina roll a nine the characters in their new campaign gain a little XP.
NIEN!
Given that the new campaign uses milestone leveling and levels up through having sex, I'm inclined to think of something else...
@@leahsander5490 I... uh... wot? It does? Well, only like 4 more years for me to get there.
I always knee jerk go "NEIN!" lol
"I used my last magic poo to look at my daughter." - Scanlan Shorthalt, everybody.
Also, heyo to my fellow latecomers binging this! We can do it!!
Yes we can! I started at episode 1 a little over a month ago, lamenting I haven't found Critical Role earlier!
I'm so far behind! At least I won't run out of content to watch anytime soon.

"I like you too, Vax"

Sensible chuckle.
@@AncestralLion I'd like this but it would make it not 69, so I am doing my duty of not liking.
People are CONSTANTLY asking Vax "do you trust me?" As time goes on he is becoming more and more hesitant to give a definitive answer.
Matt: "It grows bored"
Me: But has it hunted a Tri-Scanlan-Tops?
Scanlan's face change from the relieved hug to "I know where you sleep. People work for me." Sam is the best.
Gilmore: [work for weeks putting up a barrier to keep Whitestone hidden]
Vax and Keyleth: "i'm about to end this mans whole career"
Right lol. I'm glad Percy was able to keep those 2 from jumping the gun.
@@asumax8 gun pun. Love it
I was on the verge of screaming at the screen. Why would you risk using a signal flare when you are supposed to be hiding under a tarp?
SPOILER
If Pike was there and cast speak with dead on Tiberius, "My name is Tiberius Stormwind from Draconia"
"Furthermore of Vox machina, and the afterlife."
Tom Foolious2 the resurrection spells that pike has only work within a minute of death so no, they couldn’t bring him back
I don’t think that my emotions (and possibly theirs) would have survived that scene.
@@maccrashgyver1947 But it would be in typical Vox Machina, and for that we will miss him.
I don’t think it’s really dawned on me until this episode just how much Percy hates himself
Yup
In the same way that i see Grog as the 'Hulk' of Vox Machina, I now see Percy as the 'Bruce Banner' of Voc Machina. A traumatized genius that creates new technology and wrestles with both personal and very literal demons.
I want to hug him.
He would be perfect for playing golum in lord of the rings, his face is perfect for it.
yeah, same... about him not wanting to gain Vaxs trust
Scanlin: "I used my last magic poo, to look at my daughter"
CLASSIC!!!
SPOILERS
I've got to say that, as much as I loved Tiberius and would love to have him back, I don't really want him to be resurrected.
Agreed. Definitely agreed.
Bringing him back would feel just wrong.. agreed
I looked up the time stamps in case anyone finds them interesting
3:13:58 Gern mentioned
3:41:14 Scanlan modify memory
scanlan saying whitestone out loud - 3:32:35
SPOILERS
I don't care what other people say about Tiberus as a character or how Orion played him, but for me he was always part of the initial "family" of Vox Machina and I'm not ashamed to say that I really did mourn his death.
I'm glad Orian has been figuring his shit out and is doing much better in his personal life...but Tiberius :( that was a hard loss to bear :(
hear hear.
i doubt there will be all that many people who would call you out for that. Hell, i cried. And people cry about imaginary characters all the time, whether it's a video game, anime or a D&D podcast.
-and, moreover, Vox Machina of Greyskull Keep-
I'm literally crying. I didn't think I would but when they reminded me how he always called Keyleth 'Princess' the tears started up.
I can't tell if Talesin was acting or if he was trully terrified at the prospect of Whitestone being destroyed by the dragons, but damn I felt his agony xDD
He was no doubt looking forward to seeing it eventually rebuilt, so the notion that it might be destroyed again would definitely add a little tension.
*SPOILERS* (While your at it get out of the comment section if you haven't watched all of it)
"He loved you well princess"
Me: *Heart explodes, starts crying*
Scanlan: "We'll fix this, cause this is poppycock"
Me: *cries harder*
Also what made this sadder is just everybody reactions and poor Marisha is crying
== El Spoilerino ==
Aside from the feels that ending of this episode brought, I'm really looking forward to see how it is going to affect the members of VM. No matter if you liked or disliked Tiberius, he was still an original party member and honestly his death should be one of the major points for the character development for the rest. Plus if they battle Vorugal, it won't be just about fighting the Conclave but also personal revenge. I sense a really great chapter of the story coming our way!
I feel like that shadow of percy from the briarwoods arc is going to have a resurgence
I wish pike was there to speak with dead
Tiberius was one of my favorite characters, I was sad to see him go.
I didn't listen to the warnings about spoilers...
Spoilers:
Despite whatever had happened with Orion I can say that I sobbed like a baby at Tiberius' death. He was the first character that I had fallen in love and within intrigue and we'll I love all the characters now Tiberius Stormwind has a special place in my heart. I'm sad to see him go but am glad he has safely passed. To Tiberius one last time.
I believe Orion got cancer, hes doing okay as of this moment as far as im aware.
