Grog's conversation with Kern is one of the best things I've seen in days. It feels like both Travis and Matt are trying to play super manly men, who are trying to open up to feelings, while neither of them know how to be a super manly man.
This episode was full of incredible moments, but boy that Grog Kern conversation was underrated. Like both of them know exactly what feels natural, but also know now's not the time or place. And Grog is trying to talk "normally" while Kern has obviously had some kind of mental health improvement, and doesn't want to fall back into his ways. And the whole thing is so delightfully awkward. Two men who are trying desperately to be civil and conversational, while having no natural talent or inclination towards it.

I am praying that in the next season of Legend of Vox Machina that we get to see Victor animated. He’s right up there with Gilmore. Even the players all got excited like “Percy you need black powder right??” Just to see Victor again.
@@morgandavis4012 lol yeah it can feel a bit underwhelming as a player. But also figure it's a form of healing anyone can buy, and you can use it outside of combat giving you potentially a lot of healing without having to rest (assuming you have a decent stockpile).
On earlier versions (and Pathfinder), healing potions and other sources of healing were waaaay more precious, because you couldn't just take a 8 hour nap and completely heal, you only healed your level, and one point of damage to your stats. So at level 10, you sleep and only heal 10 HP, and 1 point of damage on each stat, making healing spells considerably more important, as they replenish each day. And lesser restoration heal 1D4 stat damage. In 5.0, healing potions should be more cheap because frankly, if you have an hour you can heal a lot more with a short rest, and if you have 8 hours, you just heal completely. So potions are only for combat.
@@Jake007123 And also it was waaaay easier to die outright if you were low on hitpoints since if you went to -10 that was just it, you're dead, no death saves. Sources of ability score drain/damage were also way more common.

Veng3r Well, greed and selfishness are two different things. Vex's greed is her fatal flaw but she also uses it to help keep Vox Machina well funded. She'll never not cough up the gold if it's something the group needs, which is decidedly un-selfish.
No. Spending funds for things that the party truly needs to function properly is just basic common sense. NOT some grand display of self-sacrifice by one character...
+Veng3r Except there have also been instances where she has pulled from her personal funds to pay for things other party members wanted. Vex has a good heart and cares deeply for her family. Her fault is her greed, but everybody in the party has faults that are detrimental at times. It would be really cool for Matt to make her confront her greed and grow out of it a little bit.
Haha, that sounds great! Yeah, that's about where I started, too. I may or may not have actually killed a fellow party member at one point. I'm still waiting for the time travel story where Percy becomes Viktor. Think about it, white hair, tinkerer, likes Vex... he's been waiting so long for his friends to come back and is so excited to see them he can't keep himself sane.
Matt's sarcasm at 1:13:20 ish is just ruthless. Given just how much control he has as a DM and how much smackdown he could theoretically bring down for all the power- and meta-gaming, his comments on their low opinion on healing potions is just raw. He's so good at keeping composure in these games, but that was so fun to watch. Savage.
They are partially right. Potions are VERY expensive for their amount of healing. Compared to a simple spell. The thing is, potions are meant to be, in 5e, last resort, im about to die, resource. while the party has been chucking them down like candies to heal like 10 hp.
Matt's potions are a lot more expensive than typical in 5e though to be fair, although that might be partially because of the cleric monopoly on potions in Vasselheim? I really wish I could remember how much they cost from Gilmore's.
@@christopherarmstrong8255 its because he allows potions to be used as a bonus action instead of requiring a regualr action making them vastly more versatile.
That vendor SCAMMED THE HELL out of Vex. It was what, $2700 or something worth of potions he sold them for $5000 (did he take the $750 of junk too?) claiming that's a discount for the Take? He gave them a "discount" of $1500 and took out one of the superior potions? Why don't any of them pay attention to how much things are worth? Vex at least should definitely know that.

I've been running through this series as fast as I can and I often scroll through the comments to find peoples Indexing when I need to find my place. But that also means seeing a lot sucky comments about how, for some reason, a small portion of viewers seems to HATE the whole party. If you're watching this two years behind, like me, please remember: They're just people having fun. They meta-game a bit. They don't make always make the absolute most efficient tactical decisions. Sometimes they're super dumb with spells. But do you know what? You're still watching. It's still fun. Don't rat on people for making mistakes or not remembering every single spell or sometimes like, y'know, doing stuff for shits and giggles and not for the absolute strictest RP going.
I'm trying to catch up like you and there are a lot of people who hate the mistakes, and especially Keylith. Making mistakes is a part of the fun, part of the experience here, and with home games.
A thousand upvotes. Hate comments for a youtube video is one thing, but how are there people who have gotten through 40-some episodes disliking the players, the characters, and or they style of play. I suppose some people just have one person they like or whatever, but how does that get you through a three to four hour episode.
I love that look from Matt has he looks around the room as everyone is RPing in person flawlessly after the guests arrive. Just seeing all his efforts come together in these moments, has to be one of the most fulfilling feelings there is.
The fact that Victor is not only a ridiculously colorful character, but also has character progression makes him the single greatest NPC in the whole campaign 🤣🤣🤣

@@morgandavis4012 lol yeah it can feel a bit underwhelming as a player. But also figure it's a form of healing anyone can buy, and you can use it outside of combat giving you potentially a lot of healing without having to rest (assuming you have a decent stockpile).
It was perfect.

No. Spending funds for things that the party truly needs to function properly is just basic common sense.

He's so good at keeping composure in these games, but that was so fun to watch. Savage.
Right lol, loved that.
@@christopherarmstrong8255 its because he allows potions to be used as a bonus action instead of requiring a regualr action making them vastly more versatile.

as far as performance and acting goes, this has to be one episodes so far. between the drunk antics, Mercer's performance of the shop clerk, and the quiet climax of the fight, this was an emotionally uplifting episdoe
Those moments when Liam just has to praise Matt for one thing or the other are just lovely, and VERY well deserved
I'm usually pretty impressed with things, but specifically Mercer's ability to improv the sphynx's dialogue and craft a coherent story out of the questions asked is just astounding. I get that he has notes and a story outline prepared, but being able to spin it into a believable conversation and remaining in character throughout is something beyond talent.
