Ludinus tried to absorb and destroy his closest confidant. He trusted no one but himself in the end. He also saw himself as a hero and a mentor for heroes like Ben Kenobi so he hoped that they would believe he was right and would finish his mission for him, to "save the world"
I got up to date two months ago. (Starting from C01E001 18mo ago!) Now if I can just manage to catch it live from the start instead of halfway through for once!
I'm so excited for the animated version with Ludi literally monologuing the entire time in a pseudo- Charlie brown background while they're planning and doing things 😂
I knew we're in the last episodes, but kinda wish they had waited before going in. Ludinus was dead, and although he was prepared to put his soul elsewhere, the body he used to take lilianas power was gone, meaning he couldn't be a vessel, and if not him, I don't think there are many other candidates left. The other exaltants he went there with were dead, and who knows where he ended up or what he'd do to continue his plan/how long it would take for him to get back to where he was. It was a setback, which gave them time to potentially rest, contact people like keyleth, and figure out what the next step is before going right into the lions den on only a short rest.
tbh even if i really hate how they just opened the cage just because, i would hate even more to wait for another NPC to decide for them again. They're too much relying on other people opinion but they never actually decided what to do with the whole Predathos problem, and in basically the last episode of the campaign it's a real issue
Is anyone else gonna be annoyed if they unleash Predathos and drive away the gods and there is no horrific fallout for the short sighted actions of the crew? No thinking of power vacuums, what it will do to magic, culture, and all that.
14:13 I love Laura's comment that Ludinus uses his staff to catch fish and that Matt confirmed that Ludinus is a big camper because it paints an image of Ludinus tying a string to this powerful magical staff and then tossing the line into the water (either that or it is spear fishing but I'm going with this narrative because it is funnier to me). Granted he could be using magic to catch fish but he loves the sport of fishing so why would he.
Did anyone else catch when Robbie comes back to the table the captions are hilariously wrong? Robbie is singing "One of Us" by Joan Osborne and the captions say "Did you guys want to fuck?" instead of "What if God was one of us?" Lol.
"...which now begins to take the form of almost a small child of glowing light." Oh, I've seen it before, throw it out of the airlock, I don't want Bells Hells to choose whether Exandria's going up in red, blue or green explosion.
@cbear3476 do you think there would be? Since Predathos is coming out and being released, wouldn't Asmodeus flee with the rest of the gods of Exandria?
Part of me is wondering if Matt has a plan to pull the rug out from under them next episode. All we have heard of Predathos up to this point is from the Gods' own experience with them, and other prophetic visions of what might happen if it is released. They would have witnessed Predathos as just a mindless force of hunger, and their interpretation of its goals is as such. But this is the first time they've encountered Predathos itself. It knowingly creates Ruidusborn for the purpose of freeing it from its cage. It conversed directly with Ludinus. It created the Reilora in its image and can see the dreams and thoughts of Exandrians much like those born on Ruidus. The tethers of energy might even mean it has its own pull on Fate. I'll be pleasantly delighted if Matt pulls his own version of Calamity - people, fate seers, and the gods assumed one thing about Predathos' nature, but it has grown enough over millennia in prison, learned enough from dreams, that it realized it could turn Exandria into a garden. Two mortals have ascended to Godhood in Exandria's history, one very recently, relatively speaking. It has the option of hunting a limited number of Gods across the cosmos (20, not counting Tharizdun)...Or it could subjugate Exandria, make new mortals ascend to Godhood for the sake of feeding on that divine spark for however long it desires, and however long Exandria lasts.
Every Ascension takes the place of an old god (Vecna was just before Matt put his lore fully into place), so I think it would still be a finite amount.
Farming gods to eat... I mean, it makes sense. So dark. How would Predathos encourage anyone to ascend to apotheosis, knowing he is waiting to gobble them up? There would definitely have to be a monstrous misinformation campaign to get that going.
@@Dndnerd591 Asmodeus seems open to Predathos being released. So he definitely has a plan that probably involves sacrificing the Matron of Ravens and a few other Primes.
@@VagueHandWaving I mean if Predathos eats gods, the current pantheon of gods would be effectively be an infinitely rotating set of figures. Mortals rise to godhood, Predathos eats them, mortals notice the disappearance of gods and decide to become gods themselves and repeat the cycle.
@ well maybe yeah. but my point is that if they had dispel magic, they could’ve ended the singularity very early in the fight. Rather than counterspell, where you have to be within 60 feet at the moment of casting (which can also be countered)
Excellent work on that Spell Sniper ruling Marisha! Don't know how that will affect the fight, as I'm typing this immediately after it happened, but that was such a good catch.
Matt gave them the soul prism. I don't think he expected them to use it on Delilah, or else he wouldn't have had Ludinus offer to fix it right before they found the cage.
Sans moon-explosion, I'm pretty sure a Ruidus supplement is incoming. He created a lot of races, monsters and lore, it's enough for a book like the ones we have.
@@RedLuigiGames It'd be kinda hilarious and infuriating if we get a book for the fuckin MOON before we get one for Issylra, Marquet, and the Shattered Teeth. lol
Jeez... 10 years. Wild. I haven't been here that whole time. I jumped in when they were live on C1 at like episode 95? or so I think; whenever that was. (It's been a while!!!!) but I've hung around ever since. Seen just about every piece of content made (even the ones that have been deleted for various sad reasons over the years) Here's to 10 more Critters!
Spoilers: If they didn't let Predathos out, they would have had to kill every ruidusborn for the rest of time and genocide the moon to prevent the gods from starting a new calamity.
It’s so interesting in that sense. I believe that even if they made the choice to leave, this series of events would still happen. Predathos would still be creating more Ruidusborn, trying to pull them in and free himself. At the end of the day, I think freeing Predathos is inevitable. There was no other choice. It’s just whether or not that decision was going to be prolonged or not. In Bells Hells case, they just quicken the process.
I mean, dnd is all about following the threads you wouldn’t otherwise follow! Travis himself follows the more “bad” threads just to find out what happens, plus it makes the narrative more interesting than taking the ‘safe’ route 🤷 If you don’t play dnd yourself, it’s hard to understand just how many bad choices you and your party would make just for fun
@@iamkelseya I've been a DM and player for over a decade, and parties absolutely make bad choices for dumb reasons, not only because they may be more interesting
Well a few things... What is a possessed Imogen/ Predathos going to do? What will Braius do : will he help or betray them? And what of the other heroes in exandria? Will we see them one more time or will exandria be destroyed? So many questions that need to be answered. I say maybe two or three more left. And see they should have learned more. I just caught up after the episode 77 and 78 mess cause those episodes turned me off of this for a while. And now... We will see what happens
Question to people more experienced with D&D: Could a magic missle have knocked out a bunch of Ludinus' hit points if targeted at the neck??? It doesn't have a save, long range (120ft) and is a first lvl. With the extra 8d6 every hit, in theory, it could have damaged him quite significantly
I like this! As a Sorcerer (Laudna and Imogen are) you have access to Magic Missile, and say if someone did something to make Ludinus use his reaction before hand on something other than Shield, every round someone used Magic Missile it would do 3d4+3 and 8d6 plus Ludinus would’ve lost 1d6+1 slots! As long as his reaction was used and he hadn’t cast Shield it would auto succeed
If I was in that group my suggestion would have been to hit it with the soul syphon at the same time it tries to take a vessel and hope to split it's essence? ( you know , invoke some madness. maybe even get a non Ruidus born vessel. or severally weaken it? )
TLDR; The Ashton moment saying 'Grow Up' just rocketed up my list of fave moments. IN THIS ESSAY I WILL! (I ramble in this comment, let me 'tism, pass it if you don't care, I'm just gushing bc I love this stuff.) I'm sorry but Ashton's little snipe of "Get over it. Grow up." had me wheezing. It gave me whiplash to Riegan from Mob Psycho 100 scolding a bunch of adult psychics because here's this parallel of two people with similar obstacles but only **one** fucked up and realised he had, then worked to change. So him specifically telling Ludi to grow the fuck up is perfect because he was the only one who could do that in that moment. He's carried that trauma, that pain, those reflex issues that make you do stupid stuff - (Ashton did fuck up by not talking to his friends. He chased his perceived 'this is my destiny' thing to try to feel like somebody and it backfired immediately. He truly only survived bc of his friends but Ashton then using this to see 'we're not that different but somehow I'm the good one out of us? Damn, bro' and likely saying what he wished someone said to him before he fucked up. PEAK.) Arguably, Ashton having the rest of the Hell's to call him out and still support him after did him wonders and made him the version Ludinus could have been cause it actually reprimanded him to being more honest with himself and others. Example being when Laudna attacked Orym in his sleep for the sword and Ashton was the one to be like 'you owe him an apology.' (Legit I was annoyed by that scene bc I thought she was in the wrong - it's a complex scene bc of her addiction and lack of boundaries with Delilah, so the nuance was important - but when I look back it's a return of what the party did for him - 'this is a hard situation but we're not running from it.' Reprimand then support. Laudna was struggling. And instead of being like 'that's messed up how dare you' they focused on supporting her while still letting her know that shit wasn't okay. For as much as Bell's Hells seemed so fractured and tense with each other, they still face each others flaws head on and smack them over the head to say 'we're all fucked up here. So tell us HOW you're fucked up instead of waiting to explode. Maybe we can help.' They're still a highly messy group tied together by this task that's... so overbearing but they do try really hard to be there for each other and I think that's a cool mirror to what Ludinus has lacked. Ludinus never had that group. He had a CULT. He had people who walked away. He had followers. Not once did he have a friend who told him he was being insane actually... and y'know, stuck by him to make sure he didn't be a menace. Or someone to tell him to grow up and get over it. At that point, he's so far in his delusion that honestly... every other comment was just something he could argue away or silver tongue speech his way out of. A good old fashioned hard stance of 'grow up' wouldn't help him at this point - he v much is lost in his plans he spent so long agonising over - but it sure as hell made me laugh. He paused, I watched Matt act through that part and he just...stalled and had to go back to his speech about sparks making him who he is. Ashton drew a circle around his own face with his fingers and I lowkey took that to mean "Keep wearing the mask but I see you, fuckhead." Or just showing his eyerolls at the deflection of: This Is Just Who I Am Now. I'm def reading into all this bc I love this type of storytelling where the villain is so far in his sauce and someone just drops a "Grow up." their way. We need more characters not afraid to shut these BBEG's down with that level of brutal. Sometimes, SOMETIMES, they genuinely do need to just grow up and get over it. (We can all argue trauma all day but this man went around absorbing living fae to prolong his life and gain power, so at THAT POINT there's not an argument to be made for empathising - then going on to be just as hypocritical as the gods he hates, like you can't tell me it isn't funny to then have them be smacked by a 'get over yourself, wtf'.)
[Spoilers for late episode] I see we've learned nothing from that little "not grasping the ramifications of willfully inviting powers beyond your scope into your body" oopsy daisy with Ashton... now we're back at square "I don't know what I thought was gonna happen".
What would freeing Predathos do to Ruidus? Hard to tell exactly what happens to the place created as a prison once the prisoner breaks free. Worst case scenario the red moon goes boom, hope that's not what happens.
Even if the gods are gone their is still powerful entity that could take their place like archfey, archdevil, archangel, demon lord or even demi god like Uk'otoa
True, but a party of high level mortals can take those down. Not all at once, of course, but they can, just like the MN took down Uktoa. Compare that to the stats of an exandrian god in their true form. Downfall showed us: Thousands of Hitpoints, free level 9 spells EVERY turn, full hitpoint regeneration, extremely high stats for skills and saves (like +20 or something). It'd be hard for 20 level 20 players to take one of those down, let alone the entire pantheon.
@@ivoandre8345 Even more scary, those "true forms" seen during Downfall wasn't even their truest forms, those were still fragments of their full power, motes of divinity held within rapidly crumbling mortal bodies with growing ties to their true immeasurable forms beyond the divine gate. Crazy stuff.
Im waiting for braius to release a piece of backstory that essentially he is the joe dirt of critical role. That his family gave him the name doomseed after he sullied their good name

Does anyone know what's the song at 1:55:15 called? I want to put it in my battle playlist but i can't find it online. Thank in advance to anyone responding.
i havent combed the youtube comments too much for this, nor do i want to, but i have seen a lot of reactions on tumblr that are very... perplexing. a lot of people thinking they should have just taken defeating ludinus and walked away. a. how much good do y'all think that would've done in the grand scheme of things? this was always bigger than ludinus. predathos was pretty set on getting out regardless of whether that was gonna be through him, imogen, or some other exaltant. b. sorry but that's... such a boring outcome imo. matt's been dangling this super cool and interesting plot point in front of them, especially in front of imogen, for how long now? why would they not pursue it? frankly i am super hype for whatever is coming next. i think there will be a change in exandria fs, but i dont think exandria is doomed and i dont think the hells are doomed, and honestly a big part of why i have faith in that is because i trust matt. he's planted the seeds for this for a pretty big chunk of the campaign and i can't imagine it would all be set to lead to doom.
It'll certainly be interesting to see what comes next, and I can't imagine Matt going 'You chose X, therefore the world I've spent over 10 years making no longer exists." That said, from an in-game logic perspective, I still don't find the party's choice very satisfying. I'm not convinced that releasing Predathos will either be good for Exandria or was inevitable. But, we'll see!
There was still absolutely no reason they had to go in there immediately. Screw meta-gamey 'let's press the button and see what happens' nonsense, from an in-game perspective, why should these chucklefucks get to decide the whole planet's fate just because a few of them have beef with the gods and are fine with committing genocide and/or have no common sense? Hell, I wouldn't want Ashton or Fearne deciding my wardrobe, let alone the fate of me and my entire planet. Secure the area and send for backup. Going in may still be necessary, but at least you're not running in half-cocked with no Plan B.
Anyone else feel like the audio was different this episode? I feel like the side whispers/comments were picked up a lot more. IMO it made it quite distracting. Amazing episode!!

The look of instant regret kills me
i finally got caught up with the campaign during the holidays so i'm glad i can finally experience the angst, pain and suffering with all of you :3
Same!! Congratulations critter!
I finally did, I caught up to the newest episode of C3 and with such a good timing :3
I always wanted to write this message and here I am ^-^
Welcome to the Monday Crew, friend :D
Same!!!! I literally just reply commented the same thing a moment ago but: congratulations critter!
I am with you! Thank lord we could skip the COVID gap xD
2:03:14 Sam's shirt reveal
2:19:03 ashley notices
2:19:32 tells laura "did you see sam's shirt?"
2:20:38 shirt-nanigans
It happens sometimes. They also didn't recognize Travis singing "Copacabana" after he found the cave - "Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl..."

Finally I can count myself as part of the Monday Crew as well. Only took five years and a bazillion of episodes!
Hey y'all! 👋
"...which now begins to take the form of almost a small child of glowing light."
Oh, I've seen it before, throw it out of the airlock, I don't want Bells Hells to choose whether Exandria's going up in red, blue or green explosion.
1:50:09, "It's like one of those cysts you bust open with an encyclopedia."
...that's possibly the most random thing I've ever heard Travis say.
I can't wait to see if Sam ends up fully going evil with Braius or if he'll choose to help Bells Hells
In this case siding with Bell's Hells would be the evil thing to do.
I hope so or at least a wicked punishment for disobeying
@cbear3476 do you think there would be? Since Predathos is coming out and being released, wouldn't Asmodeus flee with the rest of the gods of Exandria?
@Jakanato Potentially
Stopping BH from releasing Predathos would be a good thing though
Marisha rules lawyer moment! 1:41:10
Has anyone else been obsessed with the Chrismas album. Many gems but honestly, winter anymore is absolutely amazing
Yes I've played it so much my kids know all the words to all the songs 😂
I would like to know .... Asmodeus is a problem . How would they deal with him? Or is this another plan of his?
@@Dndnerd591 Asmodeus seems open to Predathos being released. So he definitely has a plan that probably involves sacrificing the Matron of Ravens and a few other Primes.
@@VagueHandWaving I mean if Predathos eats gods, the current pantheon of gods would be effectively be an infinitely rotating set of figures. Mortals rise to godhood, Predathos eats them, mortals notice the disappearance of gods and decide to become gods themselves and repeat the cycle.
This entire episode is 4 hours of why you should take Dispel Magic and not always Counterspell
Or that if you want to counterspell a high-level wizard, just one isn't going to do it.
@ well maybe yeah. but my point is that if they had dispel magic, they could’ve ended the singularity very early in the fight. Rather than counterspell, where you have to be within 60 feet at the moment of casting (which can also be countered)
@@RogueInBlue tbh druids do get it, Fearne just had other spells prepared **cough** earthbind
@@aakash2868 if im not mistaken, Dorian literally has it in his spell list lol
WE PLAY DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS ON A 2025 MONDAY NIIITE
Excellent work on that Spell Sniper ruling Marisha! Don't know how that will affect the fight, as I'm typing this immediately after it happened, but that was such a good catch.
The creative captions of their panicked vocalizations are so great XD
Spoilers:
I'm glad Orym got the killing blow on Ludinus
Matt gave them the soul prism. I don't think he expected them to use it on Delilah, or else he wouldn't have had Ludinus offer to fix it right before they found the cage.
There are so many holes in the lore that we don't know. I really wish Matt would make a book eventually explaining some of these.
My flatmate told me to get some friends that enjoy critical role as much as I do, anyone free?😂
Spoilers:
If they didn't let Predathos out, they would have had to kill every ruidusborn for the rest of time and genocide the moon to prevent the gods from starting a new calamity.
I was hoping Fearne and Imogen could split Predathos between them when it approached, so it would have less power and also be split up
@@Cheems59 I still hope the whole team is gonna split him between the Bells Hells
Somehow this campaign always feels like the party willingly makes every single bad choice.
Taliesin looks really great with a beard and his hair grown out.
3:59:02 i love matt's look of trying his hardest not to smile about whats to come depending on their choices lol
I'm at the start of this episode but I love how sassy they're getting with Ludinus, I can't wait to see how this turns out lol
Well..
What a good way to RING in the year eh?
Not bad Aye!
Started off the new year badly by breaking a bone in my foot on new years day, this episode has really cheered me up!
I'm confused, you weren't fully healed after one long rest?
Question to people more experienced with D&D: Could a magic missle have knocked out a bunch of Ludinus' hit points if targeted at the neck??? It doesn't have a save, long range (120ft) and is a first lvl. With the extra 8d6 every hit, in theory, it could have damaged him quite significantly
In theory yes, but I'm pretty sure none of BH have access to the magic missile spell.
Ludinus also has shield which automatically blocks Magic Missile.
Only once per turn tho
IF they had it available to them it would have been a great way to burn his reaction
( you know , invoke some madness. maybe even get a non Ruidus born vessel. or severally weaken it? )
I feel bad for Ashley, the shocking grasp should have prevented him from using his reaction to shield.
Me and the misses bought some Thorum rings for when we get married.
I am the walrus and I'm here to Party
You know that Thorum proudly shows on their webpage that they paid for the ad spot in Joe Rogan's podcast? Well, now you know

TLDR; The Ashton moment saying 'Grow Up' just rocketed up my list of fave moments. IN THIS ESSAY I WILL! (I ramble in this comment, let me 'tism, pass it if you don't care, I'm just gushing bc I love this stuff.)
I'm sorry but Ashton's little snipe of "Get over it.
Happy Monday from the snowy Midwest
[Spoilers for late episode]
I see we've learned nothing from that little "not grasping the ramifications of willfully inviting powers beyond your scope into your body" oopsy daisy with Ashton... now we're back at square "I don't know what I thought was gonna happen".
wow that is peak Laura. i dont even need to time stamp it, you know exactly what i mean

What if, the luxon and predathos are of the same species, but the luxon could not find anything to eat so it decided to split and wait?
I did NOT need Ira to say Good Girl 😢😢😂😂
In my experience children don't like being called children.
@@ivoandre8345why would they wait? It will be a Dark Calamity, demons and devils vs abominations. Whoever wins, there are no good guys left anymore.

Matt saying “f*** AI” yesssssss!!!
3:37:47, i swear everytime i hear matt noises im still amazed
i havent combed the youtube comments too much for this, nor do i want to, but i have seen a lot of reactions on tumblr that are very... perplexing. a lot of people thinking they should have just taken defeating ludinus and walked away.
a. how much good do y'all think that would've done in the grand scheme of things? this was always bigger than ludinus. predathos was pretty set on getting out regardless of whether that was gonna be through him, imogen, or some other exaltant.
b. sorry but that's... such a boring outcome imo. matt's been dangling this super cool and interesting plot point in front of them, especially in front of imogen, for how long now? why would they not pursue it?
frankly i am super hype for whatever is coming next. i think there will be a change in exandria fs, but i dont think exandria is doomed and i dont think the hells are doomed, and honestly a big part of why i have faith in that is because i trust matt. he's planted the seeds for this for a pretty big chunk of the campaign and i can't imagine it would all be set to lead to doom.
*All* of this.
I tip my hat to you.🎩🫡
(Also, your comment deserves to be up at the top. People need to see and read it, and read it very closely.)
