- I will show you how to turn off the auto stop feature on most vehicles. This is the feature that will automatically shut off your car when you get a to a red light and push on the brake.
Instagram: / montana_made_01
To do this you need to
-Turn your vehicle on
-Move the shifter to the manual position
-Manually increase the gears to the highest gear and leave it
Now your vehicle won't shut off automatically. - Авто та транспорт
Everyone forgets to tell you that this fix only works until you cut the engine off. Then, you must repeat the steps with each start of the engine.
I don't mind it's better than paying 400 dollars for a new starter
They don't "forget".
Yea bc it reset itself that's only bad thing bout it
I've been driving this thing for 6 months with that stupid auto feature shutting it off every time I'm at a light.. And in one minute and 12 seconds you just made my life better. Thanks man.
You bet!
So In order to keep the auto feature off u must continue to drive on the L right?
@@tiandraishman1605 No it's called manual mode or sport mode.
Leave it to GM to create a feature that no one likes and you cannot turn off. BS
Man no kidding. Every time I forget to bypass it I am remembered of how much I am not a fan.
Very disappointed that the 2020 doesn't have a auto stop switch to permanently
turn that stupid dumb ASS FEATURE OFF
PROBABLY GOING TO BE MY
LAST EQUINOX MAYBE EVEN
LAST CHEBY because of that very
annoying feature
It's not just GM, the ford's have it too, I had a customer who bypassed it on his F-150 and his trailer lights quit working properly
Ok realized the car needs to be on engine started to do this and it did not work on my 2018 equinox
Thank you, this is what I needed, I just got a rental and this worked. All the stupid posts say to click the A Off button, that doesn't exist!
Awesome!
it does on the 2021 nox's
Worked like a charm. Just performed the same action on my girlfriends 2019 equinox. She was getting a P171D message so I wanted to turn the auto stop off until she has time to get it into the dealership
Perfect thanks I will try that😊
Dude, I have been using this feature to disable the "Auto-Stop" mess on my 2020 Chevy Nox since I saw this vid, last fall...never looked back man! Now I've even forgotten I have the "D" option all together. Now "L6" is second-nature to me lol!!!!!
NIce! Once and a while I forget and put in on D and then the car stops. Not really sure why it annoys me so much...but I dont like it;)
@@MechanicLife Agreed...dude, I haven't even done it by mistake or because I forgot, I'm so comfortable with "L6", that "D" is not even a memory anymore. Thank you so much for your vid regarding this issue, as the Equinox has always been my one-of-a-kind crossover , and this problem was the only issue keeping me away from the latest generation. Now I just ride like a pro, like with my old junkers, back when cars didn't have these dumb "nanny" technologies. I'm enjoying my 2020 LS Nox thanks to you, thanks again.
Will it drive normal like it would in D
@@nickpierce7656 Absolutely, "L6" is all I use now. This video is awesome, I really needed that 'auto-stop-start' garbage to quit messing with the Nox.
So after putting it in L6, the. What? Just drive with it like that in Manuel or can it go back to auto
Is this on all trims of the 2019 Equinox or just specific ones? Specifically, I want to know if this feature is on the 2019 Equinox LT with the 1.6 turbo diesel engine?
Wow thank you my man😅
Thank you so much!
You bet!
Once we put it in L and the highest it goes is 6. Do we then put it in drive? And do I need to do this everytime I turn on the vehicle? I have a 2018 Chevy Cruze LS.
Do I have to leave it in manually L? Because mine goes to 9 and then I put it back in D and the auto stop goes back on.
1. Go to the front (hood) of your car
2. Open the hood and where you move the lever to open the hood, locate a connector (sensor) that is on the back or below that lever to open the hood
3. Disconnect that connector. That connector is a switch that makes the car turn off and on when braking to save gas, but it is very annoying, just disconnect it and that's it, it will never turn off again. I did it on my Chevrolet Equinox 2018
Do you happen to have a picture of how that sensor looks like? I have a 2020 traverse and auto stop is annoying
@@luzcardona3083 me too
where is this on our 2017 Cruze Premier?
I also have a 2018 Chevy Equinox with auto start and like you said it’s very annoying.
If I read this correctly, all I have to do is find the connector that is basically right beside or under that lever that allows you to lift the hood of your car up and disconnect it ? This does not effect any other components of the vehicle does it ?
Where can I find out how to do this for a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu? Dealership has not been able to help me.
I am ever so thankful for this news of L6 is there any risk of damage to the vehicle?
I have a 2019 z71 5.3 with no button to temporarily turn off auto stop . Thanks hope this works 😊
The next time you go to drive the car and you don't follow the steps to shift it to manual, will the auto stop still be disabled?
Any time you shift it to manual it will disable the autostop feature even if you are parked at a red light and move it to manual. Once you put it back in automatic the auto stop feature turns back on.
This right here was the one and only reason I didn't go with a 2018 Equinox. I literally walked out the dealer when they told me GM doesn't include a disable button for this stupid feature. Landed up getting a Rav4 without this stupid feature instead. Yes. Not being able to shut this off was a dealbreaker for me. I didn't go back to GM until they added the switch to shut this crap off.
Jeep also has a switch to turn it off. I too will not be buying one of these without the ability to do so. It annoys me to high hell lol.
My highest manual is 9 should i put it on 9 or 6
I just got a pre-owned Chevy Cruze and this tip is awesome. I hope there's a way to permanently disable by removing a cable or something. If not, this will suffice. I appreciate the tip. This Auto Stop is so freaking annoying. It does it when I'm pulling in before I can put it in park. Then restarts the engine. Wtf?! They really didn't refine it at all. A simple 10 sec delay and boom!
Thank you so much. Turned it off on my 2019 Equinox.
Now PLEASE help me get the DIC back to the main screen. It's stuck in Speed warning, Traction &stability, and units menu. I can't get back to the main screen.
thanks for sharing
You bet
Do you leave it in the position of L6 to drive it? Or do you put it back in drive?
That's the exact same question I have. And nobody answers it
Leave it in L6, if u put it back to the drive position the auto start feature will come on again you will have to do this every time u start the car and drive
When driving in L6 can you go at high speed ( normal highway) ?
Very Nice Bro. Get Good.
Thanks
I have a 2015 Chevy impala mines on go to 2 not 6 any advice?
Mine goes up to 9 do I go to it or stop at 6 ?
Gives me anxiety; having owned 'not so good' used cars in my younger years, it triggers me back to the days of 'OMG' 'is it going to shut off in front of everyone!!!'. lol. I also cannot believe that this feature isn't just going to cause more trouble than not. It's my husband's new 'used vehicle'. He drive is mostly highway. He hates the feature too. Aside from that, car is great.
Same!!
Thank you
you bet!
We tried this, didn't know you're supposed to leave it on L6 and we shifted into drive. Now when its in Drive and idle the car feels like it's putting.
The way the manual shift works on GM cars is the gear its indicating is the highest gear you allow the car to shift to. NOT the gear its currently in. My Toyota has a similar setup like this which my Cadillac has. It's more for downshifting than anything else. Took me awhile to figure out how this manumatic shift works.
And then drive in L6 mode? If you drive in L6, will the car still shift as if you were driving in D (automatic).? Or do you have to manually shift your transmission (in L6 mode) like you would on a manual vehicle?
Yes. Leaving it in L6 mode will cause the car to drive just like its in automatic.
@@dustynleach2157 ...what? ha
@@MechanicLife what if its a Traverse?
We go to l9
thanks for this. will this turn it off for good or do i have to do this each time?
You have to do it each time. As long as you have it in the manual mode it wont turn on.
Thank you really good information.does not hurt anything engine etc.
Nope, its designed to do this. Just make sure when you are in manual mode you always have the transmission at the top gear.
And then what ..do I need to push the gear to the D again or keep drive it with L6. ? If So does drive it on L6 will not damage the gear .. thanks
You leave it on M and on L6. It will shift normally like its in automatic, but wont turn off.
Is there a way to turn in back on?
Quick and easy mod!
Not a mod if it's factory
When i change to manual can I drive my car without worrying on shifting up and down or will the car shift it self?
On this specific vehicle it does. I have tried it on multiple cars without issue as well in relation to the car auto shifting
Do you just leave it in “L” after that or shift back to “D” ?
Leave on L
Question I have traverse 2021 can I remove the autostop in that car ?
Should be able to follow the same process to disable it.
I have a Chevy malibu 2016 the auto on/off use to work normally but now whenever i get to a red light and the car shifts to auto stop my dash board and radio turn off for a split second and now im starting to get worried that it might do it on the highway and then not turn on at all please help... Also if try the L6 will it damage my transmission???
A better way to disable the auto start/stop is to disconnect the switch on your hood latch that tells you that the hood is open. Works great and you do not need to worry about messing something up.
Is there just a fuse that you could pull that would disable this feature?
Nope. Not one that doesn't impact a bunch of other systems.
You could disconnect the hood latch wire harness, but it will throw a check engine light and disable remote start on some Chevys.
good question I was thinking the same thing Can we just remove a fuse
@@JimmyCornPop you are correct what i did was buy a new hood latch assembly from the dealer and drilled out the riviots that hold the sensor in place and used a zip tie to compress the switch and the button then plug it into the one on the vehicle completing the circuit and tricking the vehicle the hood is always open which will prevent the auto stop from every happening again... cons you lose remote start and a hopd open message which to me is fine....👍👍👍
@@JimmyCornPop good info. I don’t like seeing this check engine lights on the dashboard. I just picked up a 2018 Chevy Equinox so I think my best move here is to bring it to the dealer and have them remove that feature and scan it on the computer to bypass that light on the dashboard. Nonetheless, good info.
Ao i can't go back to the Drive mode? I want to permanently disable the auto stop
YOu can just shift it back into drive mode anytime. There inst any way to permanently disable it though.
@@MechanicLife false yes there is read my comment.. going on 3 years now with Auto stop disables
My 2018 auto stop stopping working. I only see videos on how to disable this feature. How do I ck to see it is ON? I'm at L1.
What does it mean if it doesn't work? Do I need service?
It might mean your battery is ending its lifespan. It relies on the battery and when it's getting close to dead, the autostop feature quits working. Happened to me late last year, battery died this past summer. New battery in, autostop feature works again, unfortunately. It's obnoxious as hell in the middle of a TX summer to lose the AC every time you stop, and having to give the brake a little pump at the light to get the car running again just makes me feel irritated that such an annoying feature was ever implemented without an off button.
I need to drive in 6 or can i switch in D
Do you leave it in that gear or shift back to drivr?
I leave it in gear. I am sure on the Traverse. Just try and see if it works.
@@MechanicLife the Check Charging something, vehicle may stall" and "Battery Saver On" and battery light came on. I figured turninv off that damned auto stop might help til it goes into shop. What a weird way to bypass it. I 🤬 swear!
You don’t drive it in low, right?
Works on my 2018 Malibu. Thanks. The auto on off was getting on my nerves😖
Awesome!

@@deemobilemechanic6803 hi! She has never changed it so she drives it as normal but the auto stop feature stoped working? Idk it’s still not fixed so she has been planning on selling it and buying a truck lol
I too have a 2018 Malibu and the auto stop is rather annoying!! About to go try this for myself so I wont have to deal with the annoying shutting off of the car
Will this work for a 2014 Chevy Malibu?
Not sure. Worth a try though.
Why doesn't anyone answer if I have to drive on L6 going forward? What happens if I go back to D and drive?
I just bought a 2019 Buik Encore but I dont see that it say auto stop on the dash board does this still mean it has it??
how do you turn this feature ON . just purchased a used equinox and I actually like this feature. please advise..thank you
Just leave it in drive and it will kick in automatically when you come to a stop. What year Equinox?
Hi I think I’m a little late to the party, but the feature only works once your engine is warm enough, being in middle of the C and H for your engine temp. If it is too warm or too cool, it will not function
@@MechanicLife mine doesn't work anymore. It did for the first year and now doesn't.
Question after, do we leave the car shift on L or move it to D ??
Leave it on L (if your driving an Equinox. It will shift automatically as if it was in D.
Do you have to do this everytime you start the car?
Yes
This won't mess up the transmission?
On this Equinox it wont no.
But can you go back to the automatic after you put it to the highest level???
Yes
Ok so turn it off permanently?
And then if I put the car back in drive it's still disabled?
No. Then it will be re-enabled.
רכשתי מליבו 2018 האם אחרי זמן ממושך שנסעתם היה לכם בעיות בגיר
לא. זה נסע בסדר בלי שום בעיות.
How do I turn it on
So then should it be drivin in 6th gear?
Yes. It will shift and function as if it is still in automatic even though you leave it in 6th.
Open hood start car. Close hood. Drive normally without auto stop. Must repeat after shutting engine off.
Nice!
But won’t it use a lot more gas always being in sixth gear or something? Like, manually shifting to sixth is not something that sounds right to me.
When its in 6th gear the vehicle will shift as if its in automatic cycling through all of the gears.
I tried it 3 times. It's not working. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
But when I go back to Auto it doesn’t work, it turns off/on again.
You leave it in M mode.
This is not true. On mine I can't permanently shut it off if I stop at a stoplight it goes back on. If I shut the car off and turn it back on it turns back on there is no way to permanently disable this
Well, based on comments I was hopeful but nope. My car won't let me shift past second gear in manual mode
I have a 2018 equinox and I cannot shift out of park without the engine started...
Correct. You will need the engine started in order to do that.
@@MechanicLife that made me sound pretty dumb lol. I figured it out but it wasn't clear in the video, I thought it was saying to just turn the car on without starting the engine... Anyway I ended up buying a cable from Amazon to disable the auto stop feature all together it was around $24 with tax. Works beautifully!!

@@nicoleschmock8527 Thats awesome! Thanks for sending it over.
The feature itself doesn't bug me. What does is that it turns my dashcam off every time and I'm not gonna be happy when I get smoked at a red light and my $200 dashcam is worthless to insurance. 🤦♂️
I did what the video said but did not work on😢
Yep it's only temporary. You have to do the steps everytime
My impala says shift denied when I try to go over M2
Ugh, that's annoying.
Yeah same here with my 2015 Chevy Malibu. Guess I can't turn it off at all then?? Very irritating feature.

Did not work on a 2019 Chevy Impala.
I tried that and does not allow me to go further than gear #3, why ?
The best way to eliminate the Auto stop-start feature on an Equinox is to drive it to the nearest Toyota dealer and trade it in on a new Camry or Rav4 with an actual modern engine that doesn't need these band-aids to help it's fuel economy.
I love it...Mine would be to drive it to a Dodge dealership and trade it in on a Ram.;)
In the winter you can turn on the defroster and in summer hot months you can be sure the defroster or AC is on and it won't go into AutoStop in Automatic as both need the compressor
With my AC on the car will still turn off and then start blowing hot air...super annoying.
Not on the 2021 Chevys
On my 2020 equinox I have noticed that when the auto stop kicks in at a stop and I have my A/C on, the A/C gets adjusted and blows out slower and I guess once it has done that for a few seconds it kicks the start back on because of the power usage. It is rather annoying but I have gotten use to letting my foot slightly off the brake to engage the start again as it does it
Yeah thats just wrong so try again
This is for one time only. Every time you start again you have to do again.
Correct
A better way to diable the auto start/stop is to disconnect the switch on the hood latch that tells you that your hood is open. Works great and you dont have to play with gear shifter..
Expand on this please!
@@starlitexxoo if you open your hood and look at the front of your car right at the latch. There is a plug that tells you the hood is open. If you unplug that. The car no longer auto stops. Did it and it works great. No issues at all. Let me know if you need more explanation into it.
Exactly. Disconnect the hood open latch connector. Its right where you open the hood. Easiest fix because that auto stop feature is stupid and annoying AF!!! 🙄
This was in another reply. Not exactly a fix since doing this will shoe the engine light until it's reconnected. Sooo... legit engine issue? You won't know.
@@R__K Also deletes the remote start.
Will this work on a 2016?
Typially this works on every make and model year.
This process does not work. They now have them programmed to only go one or two gears up at a time and when you slow down it drops it back down into first and you can't get out without pushing the button one or two gears at a time
But how do I turn it back on?
Turn the car off and back on. Or simply move the shifter from manual to auto.
Worked for a GM dealership for 10 years and people complained so much when the cars came with this....leave it to Government Motors to make something people don't like.
I am not surprised! Not a fan!!:)
Basically there’s so way to get rid of it,you’re just using a jimmy rigged way to do it
Have a 2.5L has a M instead of L and goes upto 2 then get a message

This is an over ride not a dismantle
wont that mess up the engine and transmission???
No. The car is designed to function that way. If you leave it in the first gear and drive it then you will have problems.

Can I drive while I'm eating a sandwich or do I need to shut the car off first and then eat the sandwich? Im a little confused.
Yes, but if you eat the sandwich and drive make sure to use your knees to steer... ;() The real question is can you do it while driving a stick shift??
😂
You can’t push a button to keep it off instead off putting it on the L shift mode
I seen some that don't have the override button as my wife's don't
Why would you want to disable this feature?
Because it sucks
While it may reduce wear on certain parts of the engine, it increases wear on the starter. Also, if you are in a traffic jam and doing constant stop and go for miles this feature means the car is turning on and off multiple times per minute which will actually increase wear.
This isn't turning off the auto-stop; this is bypassing auto-stop.
U want it off!
You cant
