- Boston Dynamics released a new demonstration video of its Atlas robots navigating a parkour course, complete with synchronized backflips. Check it out and how they did it, here.
As a parkour athlete, I have to say this is amazing.
Crazy! It moves it’s arms just like a human when it jumps 😱 impressed
Ikr
That’s because it’s CGI and there was a human in a green capture suit. The dropping of frames when it hopes over the beam is a dead giveaway
I noticed that too. I was wondering, as they're robots, if they really need to have movements in their arms for jumping? But if they used human movements as the model of their movements, that's why they in fact, move their arms.
@@cish6047 it could also be to keep the center of mass in the middle-back part of their body to jump more efficiently
😂🤣🤡
This is amazing and disturbing both at the same time.
Yea, I don't like it.
Scary stuff.
Very very scary stuff.
Chappie becoming a reality
Your children will say you all are old
Well it’s fake so breathe easy. For now.
Holy cow! This is the precursor to the Terminator!
weeza gonna die!
I wonder if John Connor is born yet
And GitHUb Copilot is the precursor of Skynet. Future looks promising...
Another 5 to 10 years and I bet this thing will be better than human in its movements and abilities. Amazing tech
Amazing and erie
One day we'll be fighting them but until then absolutely amazing work!
Captain Obvious much?
@Zach Fawcett The machine moves efficiently, that's why it looks like that, and it's going to get better.
You should be terrified
"The goal wasn't to create a robot that could do backflips."
I mean c'mon, that was at least partially the goal...
Whew! I thought Skynet was behind schedule. Thanks Cyberdyne...I mean Boston Dynamics 😉
These things hooked up to Star Link, oh boy. We in the good timeline. Always has been. Just takes awhile to get the ball rolling it seems.
The engineers that were pushing this thing around with hockey sticks and knocking boxes out of it's hands a few years ago better watch out. Its been training ever since.
That was fake, son.
@@hxhdfjifzirstc894 father?
Lmao yea corridor digital 😅😂
@@brianbrown5614 No. It's pronounced B-o-s-t-o-n D-y-n-a-m-i-c-s.
No he was talking about a different video
Every time I see this, I imagine 10 of these things running down my street, with miniguns mounted on their shoulders, and shudder.
What about pulse laser weapons we haven't seen yet remember stealth weapons were almost 20 years old before we saw them
@@mraaron6924 scary stuff!
@@mraaron6924 What about nookleee-ar bombs! Skurry!
Come on. Really?
I do not fear the machines, I fear the people who misuse them, and they are already among us. It does not matter what kind of devices they have.
The problems are always human made and not by the machines.
@@minorit So, "...Machines don't kill people..."
I get your meaning, and I agree, but it can be easily twisted to say something you didn't mean it to say... er, that is, your meaning. ... I mean.
its amazing how now they made a real life robot moving like a human, but dude this is very amazing and very like and I quote, "not gonna turn evil" thing where we are about to make our doom.
Every year I take a look at your videos and I am always astonished about the progress. You do really a great job at Boston Dynamics.
Imagine trying to run from one of these things, THERES no hiding really
As of now I'm pretty sure these things are probably vulnerable to strong EMP generators... u might even be able to microwave these things to "death" quite easily
@Zach Fawcett This is an incredible advancement in robotics, the robot literally just vaulted over a beam. It’s definitely worthy of being impressed about mate
You could probably run faster than them in their current build. But as they are built better, yeah I can see outrunning one an issue.
@Zach Fawcett You are right. It wouldn't make it. At least not yet. 15 years ago it was impressive if a robot could stand. Now they can make complicated moves. Imagine what they will be able to do in 20 or 30 years from now.
@@ThaG001 All you need is water.
One step closer to piloting mechs and that makes me very happy
I'll settle for an Elemental suit 1st.. This thing isn't too far from it!
These should be bundled onto a lander and sent to Mars instead of the wheeled machines we send now. They could explore in groups or alone communicating with each other and send their individual and collective info and pictures back to scientists on Earth.
That would be way cooler, to bad they're so unreliable still
@@gunlover92 They produce a number of different models, some with configurations that are proven designs. With ruggedized components they could explore the landing areas and a large radius around. The robot versions would come later.
I guess way in the future anything's possible. But I doubt it. The power requirements of multiple bots is unrealistic. Their larger quadruped and bipeds are as rugged as they can get with hydraulic actuation which depending on temp could be problematic. And rate of failure will always be magnitudes higher than a wheeled rover because of complexity. It would be neat though!
Edit: spot would be the best candidate. But again the power requirements would be tough. And their already testing small copters which could go where the rover cannot
Military paid for and developed, soon in a neighbourhood chasing you.. thx Boston Dynamics! 😃👍
It is great that there are people passionate about robotics and they achieve such unbelievable results!
This is CGI
@@Henrydingus01123 No... I don't believe it is mate, no !
@@vanman757 the frame rate of the robot seems to be slightly different from the video.
this is terrifying
Fantastic !!!! Insane how advanced this companies tech is!!
The movement is so realistic. Incredible work. Robots are really fascinating.
It’s CGI. Watch it hops over the beam. The frame rate of the CGI doesn’t match the frame rate of the video.
@@Henrydingus01123 This is not CGI, watch the behind the scenes and you will see it is real.
I shouldn’t be stunned any longer, but I’m stunned more every day by what our brightest minds achieve. May others as brilliant guide us to a world in which such things are used wisely.
Unfortunately, once technology exists, the intent of its makers are irrelevant.
@@OsirusHandle Yes, I fear you’re right. A sad but sharp observation.
It's brilliant technically and in a business sense. It's not a great human accomplishment in my opinion. Holds nothing to da Vinci's notebook science - that was brilliant. It's more Robocop than a milestone of any kind
Until he obtained an ak47... 🤣
Amazing tech and it made me smile despite thinking 'Terminator'.
Could we please get a blooper reel? This is amazing…but I know bloopers and crashes exist!! Thank you.
it’s fake look closely joan
No, it is not fake, and you can watch the behind the scenes
I can't beleive i pressed the like button at skynet!
I remember when these things could barely stand and that was 10 years ago. Terrifying.
*The day of "The Terminator" is on its way!!!*
Perfect war machine scary! Terminator becoming real! Impressive though must say! 😁👍
Amazing !!
The future really is now, it’s crazy how these things we thought were impossible when we watched them in movies when we were young are happening now, 3D printing, virtual reality games, robots etc. Are all already here and are only becoming more sophisticated.
Woa !!!
Na for real... I still think of when I started watching all their vids a the time each came out... Was always just as amazed. Go ATLAS! Always like.... Did he just.... What!? Yep he did!
Am i the only One who thinks it’s cute how the robots move?
Terminator is coming closer... 🤣
When they come to terminate humans, will they be chasing them on rooftops?
real or fake?
Amazing. This level of parkour was made by the genius work at Boston Dynamic using non robotic tools. Dream what it we can do using trialed and tested robotic parts.
This is what will be dragging you down the Post Office to pay your TV licence
Is this real or cgi?
Real.
Start finding weak points for when they become aware you'll know where to aim XD
Soon Boston Dynamics will rule the earth.
When will Atlas compete on "Ninja Warrior"?
Welcome to Uncanny Valley. Ten years ago, I would have thought this was just really good CGI.
incredible
I refuse to believe this isn’t CGI. Even if it is real I just cant accept what I see .
It is,partly. The film has been speeded up,l can attest, having just seen the original.
That's alarmingly scary. At that point it's not mimicking human movement it's learning to move better than humans.
It can't do anything without being programmed by humans
This is so scary to me, if this isn’t the beginning of a irobot I don’t know what is.
What up this is not the beginning but ten-year-old technology
No warped wall? :)
"CNET Highlights"
turns the 1:06 long official Boston Dynamics video into a 3:05 long video. Good job, CNET Highlights, good job.
can anyone help where I can find video of this high tech robot are useful for daily life?
Fukushima plant to shut off the places in radiation
Police? Armies? That’s probably where it will end up going 😬
FAKE VIDEO of Boston robot using a gun.
It would be useful in any situation where a normal human might be unable to go or at great risk in going. Rescue operations where there is a possibility of a structure collapsing. Would much rather lose a robot to a collapse than human life. Nuclear plants, places of extreme heat or cold. You could also see it being useful as basic caregivers. I have seen nursing homes where there are not enough nursing staff to meet the needs of those in their care, so people go without being changed living in their own excrement until a nurse can finally get to them. I am not suggesting these robots are at the point where they could do that, but you can see why research and advancing technology can certainly help improve people's daily lives and keep people out of dangerous situations. People mention police and military, It is likely to happen, but while we may not want them to be armed and thinking on their own (especially armed) they could still be used for patrols.
-
As for finding video. You do realize that these are not under development for commercial or private use. These are research robots being designed and tested at a university. They are not ready for practical applications yet. So you are not going to find real video of what they might be able to do. You might find promotional videos with virtual renditions of possibilities. But they first had to teach these robots to walk, then run and jump. To see them complete a course like this while not being connected to an overhead harness is impressive.
-
For those talking about people losing jobs. Well, there are already shortages of staff in many professions where a robot such as this could come in handy. Plus robot automation of jobs is less of an argument about whether we should advance robots to the point where they can do it and more of an argument for a basic universal income along with free education to train in new fields.
How much do they weigh? I would think that these robots could be sized up to huge dimensions based on the exoskeleton design. Humans are finished.
Okay, seriously. Is this real. Not trolling. This is the first time seeing something like this. Is it cgi? If not, please help me find a source to back it up
I want an atlas pakour fail compilation lol
If they're letting us see these amazing feats what are they not letting us see like the fully articulating hands
Wait are legs that good? I thought for mobility something like tires or a propeller would be better
Well they want to make a humanoid looking robot and tires are less tough-terrain friendly
I always figured it would be some kinda adjustable tank tracks, like Johnny 5 from Short Circuit or something.. but I dont think any of their robots use that set-up so I guess the 80's lied to me 🤨
Is this an animation? or is it real footage?
exactly what im thinking, i swear its cgi
Real footage.
The robot looks like a man in a mo cap suit and filled in to what they want. Looks way too digitally perfect
Amazing! 👏👏👏
Will the noble engineer decide how these things will be used?
As an added bonus, mimicking human movement also means these can be the basis of the power loader of "Aliens" fame as well as programming artificial limbs.
It’s so interesting
Wonderful 💖
A robot powered by Quantum AI (QI). Oh dear, what have we done.
This is literally like the coolest things I’ve ever seen
Its great 👍.lets see how more advance we can go.
waiting for Atlas to take a run at American Ninja Warriors
When robots can stand up straight and walk and whatever, that is when they will be welcomed much more.
A couple more years and we'd prolly see chappie patrolling the streets, and Hugh Jackman talking to Sigourney Weaver about launching his prototype.
Did that robot just do a backflip
Ok but legit
I wanna see it do a Ninja Warrior course
Great, we are reaching human agility, I am really impressed with some movements that are terribly similar to a real man ...
Shocking!
2:18 I don’t see how this isn’t CGI. I’m not saying “there’s no way a robot can do that”. Just saying that the video looks obviously CGI
You're correct, there is no way a robot of today could perform that way. Total BS!
well, its not

@@Henrydingus01123 theranos was real too lmao.
This is excellent work. Yet we still have people asking how scientists have come up with a COVID vaccine in “just” one year, it’s because there are some incredibly smart people out there. This is troubling only because we are often blinded to the perils of tech and human weakness. We never thought the Internet or the smartphone would be such a tool for guiding human behavior, because they sounded good on paper
Ya know at some point these robotics folks have to realize what they’re doing is dangerous for our future.
I need your Clothes, your Boots and your Motorcycle
I feel like they should celebrate like 2 parkour guys would after nailing a set of tricks.... LoL
Send it to Olimpics !
Give it some years before these robots are busting down doors armed to the teeth telling you to get out of your house.
Welcome to our new robot overlords.
We as humans have to realize that we are NOT the last chain in the evolution of life.
Better start learning to make EMP devices, because they DEFINITELY will have weapons the next time you see them.
It's all fun and games until there is no work.
Universal income
Taking all the jobs is at least a far more realistic fear than the many comments about them being terminators.
It's neat, but why is the stated goal to "imitate human movement?" Why wouldn't you design a robot whose movement is best suited to the job it's programmed to perform? I mean, why limit yourself to human movement, which is nothing all that marvelous, even compared to other animals?
They look so cute when moving. But also a little creepy.
Yall this is the future in 2 years
This is the new worker for companies
Can work 24 hrs a day without sleep or a break. Charge while working
These will be used to hunt humans down armed with mini guns. This video is pure mockery.
Imagine Pizza deliveries by a bot.
In 50 years we about to have Real Steel MMA robot fighting
What are you gonna say to them when they ask for a raise???
Imagine in the future you call sos because you are stuck up a steep cliff and they send this robot but it starts glitching and repeatedly falls down trying to get you.
is this computer cgi i cannot believe my eyes robots doing a frickin backflip how does that make sense
The last thing many of us will hear will be "T-A-R-G-E-T A-C-Q-U-I-R-E-D"
it will come silently, if at all
Woow this is where we are now soon there Will be robotics justice
Portal 2 robots vibin before test chambers
When they will start talking they will say : I will be back !
Technodroïdes in galactik football 1:50 😂😂
There no outrunning these things when you trying to run and hide…. They gets you and snaps your neck…..
People, this is not real...and I'm not assuming that...it's a fact.
Maaaan now we can't even run away from the robot hit squads
..They even trained some 'dogs'!! Imagine a couple of Atlas's going on a human hunt with their pack of 'dogs'..
Have none of these people seen the movie irobot ?
Why I need robot running or jumping? How about lawn mover, dishwasher helper, food maker etc.
