3:38 Can't believe that Leonardo still gets credit as some sort of technological marvel. It's a drone, with legs dangling underneath. Those legs might as well be two pieces of rope. The slack-line thing it does is no sort of trick: no balance required, the spinning rotors stop it not only from falling over, but falling at all.

"This kind of robot will be used to ask where's the bathroom!" Seriously? That aside, the facial expressions were very impressive. Amazing progress and phenomenal engineering and design skills. Is there any content on Boston Dynamics ' and Disney's animation first design processes. I'd love to see how the teams work together, lessons they've learned because the speed of their progress is beyond impressive. What is the role of managers in this cooperative endeavour?
I'm astonished at the computing and mechanical technology required to get even the models shown to work as well as they do. Watching the balancing adjustments after Atlas jumps makes the hair on my arm stand up. And one wonders what the manufacturers haven't revealed yet....
Want to see something really freaky then go check out the AI spider bot, they cut off one of its legs, and it just learns to walk with a limp by itself.
Imagine 12 Spiderman robots flipping over a building and pulling out weapons. Crime would be over, no sane person is gonna do an illegal when that's gonna come for you.
My daughter and I went to the DARPA finals in Pomona several years ago. We saw an earlier version of the ATLAS (still tethered) and a lot of other robots during event. Memories for a lifetime.

It's amazing how these intelligent humanoid robots just created themselves without the need of an intelligent designer.

Unmanned military Airborne Units coming soon no doubt!! They wouldn't really need to look like soldiers but instead look like the surroundings and be undetected. no more friendly fire deaths.
Until they become tired of dying for us and decide to stop us completely. After all, we will have already trained them and equipped them to kill the enemy.

Robotics has endless possibilities of application in making human life better - more comfortable, more engaging. A robot can be a caring partner of a morbid elderly giving company. It can dispense medicines and do chores, sing a lullaby, cook and feed too. It can even call the police if need be.
I was lucky enough to be around during the start up of this 'industry', witnessing robotics taking over many manufacturing jobs at first, then being around actual AI at Disney (as a supplier). Knew this was coming for a long time. But life imitates art sometimes, as well as visa-versa. Let's see what happens, but not forget the Terminator movies either. There's already automated robots used in military operations, including of course drones... and I specifically mean those that are autonomous.

If a robot can dance they have developed robots to the point where they can be designed to be a soldier.
Robot soldiers don't need to walk on two legs to shoot you. They don't need to walk at all to be a tank. Four legs or wheels are much more stable and there is no reason to make robot soldiers less stable than possible. The NYPD is already using Boston Dynamics' Spot. I don't think they already gave it a gun, but that has nothing to do with its ability to dance (which of course, it can do too) and more with the rest of sanity they still have. Dancing was not the critical point. It was just walking and going up stairs.

They don't have ai it will be sometime before freedom is realised. Took hundred of years for human to be modern. It still not as smart as a virus.

It’s no secret that computers can think at phenomenal speed, but can we jut take a moment to appreciate the fact that the actuators (or whatever they use) that physically move the limbs around are lightning fast and able to be that fast still when moving with ???lbs of resistance…

As incredible as these machines are, it's also kinda terrifying because it is LITERALLY only a matter of time before these things are carrying weapons and being sent into combat... making decisions based upon algorithms and pre programmed agendas rather than intuition and human decision making.
next model will be the T-800!!😱😱
The terrifying reality is that these computers can make hundreds of thousands calculations in a mili second. The shots we are seeing here are way, way outdated. Even in 2018 Elon Musk said he knew for a fact that these things could already move so fast you would need a slo mo camera or strobe light to see it happen. The latest info is that the four legged version is already tested capable of covering 100M in less than 3.4 seconds, and that’s whilst completing pre programmed manoeuvres. When weaponised, with flying capability and able to make sentient, calculated decisions they won’t just be unstoppable, they will have completed the mission before any human even knows there is something that needs to be stopped. 😮
Someday we are going to have combat robots who will be even more skilled than the world's greatest martial arts masters.
But will they be programmed to bury your dead body?

You forgot to mention someone with unlimited funds who will be extremely interested. The military. Put a rifle in it's hand's and it will complement the drone's already used to kill. While telling me where the bathroom is nice. The military is going to be the biggest user of this tech, unfortunately.

I have controlled and interacted with the Boston Dynamics yellow Dog. it's a pretty cool robot but I think it still needs some work. it can traverse obstacles and stairs etc pretty well but it has some issues still to be worked out. they are constantly improving it, and adding things to it to increase its capabilities. My brother works for a company that is helping them increase its usefulness in warehouses etc. unfortunately I think it needs a lot more work. it's a very cool robot and quite expensive. it's already deployed to some customers and they are constantly finding new uses for it.
Give these robots another 10-20 years, and they will be ready (or maybe).
@@MinhVu-fo6hd yes I think in a few years it will be a significantly better. They are working on many onboard attachments to the top of it. Including some specialized hearing to actually hear ultrasonic sound leaks from high pressure pipe leaks, and it reads guages already thanks to my brothers work.

Lucky. I'm surrounded by mannequins all day. They are neither intelligent, nor do they even move - except occasionally to go to the snack machine or the toilet.

Robots, Drones, and Artificial Intelligence will become part of normal life in our future. Most repetitive work will be automated by machines. Some applications for these technologies would be construction, warehousing, logistics, resource extraction, agriculture, entertainment, data entry, and manufacturing.
Simiar vehicles to the blue SUV were featured as emergency vehicles in Patlabor 2.
As microprocessors get more and more powerful, the Achilles heel of these kind of robots will be battery power density.
Underrated channel
I can see the Spider-Man robot in the near future being used as a real life Android vigilante crime-fighting superhero with the best martial arts Styles programmed into its computer memory storage. The same robot can be a bodyguard or do security.

Leonardo can have 4 flapping wings on it's shoulders, plus hands, armed with a back mounted plastic cannon and now we have armored core in real life. Add with cg blended reality and make 4 of these in the desert and it would be amazing.

The Homerider cracks me up. LOL I doubt that type of lane splitting is legal anywhere. // The problem with Atlas is that it can only do preprogrammed movements. That's why it's so fast at doing them. If they simply told it to go around the course after watching a human do it, they either wouldn't be able to do it or would do it in extra slow motion.
