The thing to realize is that for *most* inspections tasks it's far cheaper to mount 50 cameras all over the building that will do non-stop monitoring, rather than have 1 super fancy camera walking around, *but* some of my favourite examples where it actually makes sense to use these robots is to handle cases you didn't plan for as a relatively capable 'remote presence' platform. I think this is how a bunch of swiss or austrian hydroelectric plants were planning/thinking of using them. Most of them don't have a constant human presence, and they do have a bunch of monitoring installed although the installations themselves are old and have a lot of old equipment, so when something is wrong a human has to drive there to check it out (with some of them being fairly remote). Thank you for making informative, entertaining content about the positives of tech that also acknowledges the POSSIBLE downsides!
I'm not a fan of these type of video's. They feel more like an advertisement for the company involved instead of it having much journalistic value. To put it bluntly, it feels like a giddy school girl that goes out on a field trip to a company and then gives a presentation about it, based on the information that came from the brochures that the company gave to take home. No real investigation into the pro's and con's of this technology and the company that is selling it to other companies and governments and the moral responsibilities that come with that. Just a simple PR statement where Boston Dynamics states that they do not support the weaponization of their robots. And that's it, no further questioning.
I have enjoyed all of your videos since you started, I assumed that the level you're at with your production was unattainable for me as I have been trying to make something with my channel (very poor at this point) but you after watching your interview with Jon Youshaei, you became my new "Best Friend" as I am taking a fresh look at your methods of journalism for inspiration to try something new for myself in my industry. This technology can be adapted for use by fire departments for search and rescue. This is something I would like to see developed soon to reduce the threat to live firefighters.
Wonderfully done. Educational and entertaining. A great combo if you can hack it. Clearly Cleo you have mastered it. Thanks so much for this extended look at Spot.
You can embellish it as much as you want by showing off its abilities with the use of attractive narrators, still does not change the fact that robots like "Spot" is a dangerous slippery slope.
I think the airplane is a great analog for what's happening with robot dogs. I suspect in the same way commercial air travel was first scary/entered into responsibly, then luxurified (?) in the 70s and 80s and then weaponized in 2001, and then course corrected as a security measure we might see something similar here. It's a shame that as humans we have a tendency to react, rather than proact. In fact until I saw the video about the return of super sonic travel, I really lamented that we live in the age where pragmatism often eclipses progress. I love this channel.

A company there showed off spot with advanced lidar custom made on the platform to capture scans up to a centimeter in hard to reach environment's, factories, and even pipelines. Spot says: I'm not coming over!! 😮 😊
Spot standing there being jealous of the real dog in the end😂
Robotic K9? I think that's a good way to waste tax payer money for a novel gadget.
Black mirror was a prophecy.
Thanks for all the work you do!
He’s such a good boi
This technology can be adapted for use by fire departments for search and rescue. This is something I would like to see developed soon to reduce the threat to live firefighters.
dont let cleo know what michael reeves did to their robodog
Wonderfully done. Educational and entertaining. A great combo if you can hack it. Clearly Cleo you have mastered it. Thanks so much for this extended look at Spot.
You are just to gorgeous
Hey, it's April O'Neil.
You can embellish it as much as you want by showing off its abilities with the use of attractive narrators, still does not change the fact that robots like "Spot" is a dangerous slippery slope.
inspector gadget was one of my favourite cartoons as a kid .. so nice to hear that tune again after 30 years lol
Great video!
SHES PRETTY CHANGE MY MIND ❤
That yellow jacket is fire.
I love that u pre-planned ur outfit.
Michael Reeves has the best version of spot 😂
"Mom I want a dog as a pet"
"Will you be able to take care of it, feed it daily, take it to a walk, potty train it and make it socialise?"
"Yes mom it's easy I'll just program it...."
Loved how Fluke partner with Boston Dynamics to create the inspector for air leaks as you showed in the video 💛⚡
I’ve seen one of these in person for use as atmospheric entertainment at events and it is absolutely terrifying 😬
I love how you and the dog have matching outfits.
Little Aussie is my favorite thing about this video.
I loved the detail: Cleo outfit matched colors with Spot
Amazing! Need more such content on Robotics!!! 😍
I just attended GeoWeek this week in Denver. A company there showed off spot with advanced lidar custom made on the platform to capture scans up to a centimeter in hard to reach environment's, factories, and even pipelines. There were so many other possibilities. Spots been looking good these last few years can't wait to see how it evolves in the near future.
A robot dog is man's "best friend" in the 21st century.
That LAPD police robot dog reminds me of the episode in Black Mirror featuring the robot dog
Gentlemen here is what you're looking for 10:54
The color matched clothes are „spot on“. 💛
The best video i have seen about spot definitely is the Micheal Reeves video
