- Kachkola alu'r dalna or jhol: The truth is kachkola, i.e. green bananas isn't universally loved among Bengalis, unless they are made into a kofta. However, this version of kachkola alu'r dalna will hopefully satisfy even the haters of this humble vegetable. The dal'er bora is of course optional, but it really makes the dalna special. Enjoy this with a light musur or moog dal for lunch on a hot summer afternoon. Don't forget the preserve the peels for a kachkola'r khosha chochchori!

My Friday mornings are incomplete without Bong Eats! I’ve tried every vegetarian recipe of yours and they’re all delicious. Just one regret....wish I was a non vegetarian 😃😃😃
Vegetarian repertoire is good enough, you won't miss nonveg (knowing no killing of mute animals for our eating pleasure). I say this as an uncharacteristic Bong who has been vegetarian for many years now. Still remember the delicious taste of nonveg Bong cooking but no longer partake.
Babu It was such a huge surprise to discover that Bengali cuisine had such a variety of delicious vegetarian recipes! As for the non vegetarian food, while I’m respectful of your decision to turn vegetarian, I have no issues with meat eaters. I think the more important thing is that all of us should consume responsibly whatever be the diet! 😊
@@Suraxa1970 yes, everyone should decide what they want to eat. I was just saying as you mentioned that despite being a mainly nonveg culture, there are so many delicious veg recipes that even meat eaters love (we owe it to the creativity of widows of Bengal, I suppose and few Vaishnavite households maybe).
As a bengali I love to watch cooking of bengali dishes in ytube.As u r in abroad u eats 'khanti jinis'.And in India u r eating 'vajal jinis'

Bengal has always had a la-carte system, not thali.
Swati Sri Bengal does not have a thali. But a traditional bengali meal does have course progression - starting with something bitter (bitter gourd, neem/begun), something fried, some lentils and sabji, main course (fish, meats), chatni, sweets etc. If you go to some of the fancy bengali restaurants you can choose something like a 5-course meal and get options about what you want for those courses. That is the closest to a set-menu you can get.

Babu Lol. I am not a culinary expert either. In our household and whatever I have seen at my friends and relatives, they generally start with bitter. Sheddho, saak would be somewhere between the bitter and daal, if at all they are having so many courses in the first place. But I guess there are probably as many minor variations as there are households. In fact, my mother’s side used to have daal after main course and before chatni. Go figure!! 😆😆
@@avsg2427 Indeed. Many people also mix the dal with all of the rice and then eat the mixture with the other side dishes. Joto mot toto poth, I guess!

Made it for lunch. It was very good. Took me 2 hours to cook and 20 mins to eat! Didn’t have time to soak the mosur dal as suggested but the bora’s came out crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and tasty

Great recipe. Never thought about adding lentil cakes in kach kolar dalna. Can’t go wrong. My only concern....is it going to make the dalna dry by absorbing the gravy. should we add some extra water?
