- Hello everyone!
Welcome to another Bimmer Fixer Video. In this video i show you how to replace the inner and outer Tie Rod/Track Rods in your BMW e60 and e61.
Something i forgot to mention in the video is that its advised that you change both sides when replacing anything like this also if one side has gone then it's just a matter of time until the other side will fail too.

21:11 Hi everyone! I said 70Nm for the steering knuckle but it's 80Nm. It's 70Nm for the locking nut on the tie rod 👍🏻
Wtf? I went by 2 videos, one being from autodoc saying 165nm for the bolt on the tie rod! I replaced my bearing today and had to cut off the tierod because the Allen key head rounded off so I couldn't stop the ball joint spinning when trying to get the nut off. Destroyed the new tie rod boot and all the grease came out. 165nm squashed the shit out of the rubber boot
@user-jy9iq3vj1w Ouch! Sorry to hear that. What a headache! What are AutoDoc thinking! 165 Nm!
@@TheBimmerFixer AutoDoc is right. 80Nm is for the xDrive models and the outer tie rods are different. 165NM on RWD models.
51Nm for the locking nut.
He's back!
😀👍🏻 Thank you for your patience!
@@TheBimmerFixeri now have an F30 320d, but i did have a 5 Series 525d when you did your front control arms video, and the ABS fault fixes, good to see you back😁
@ryzeneu6739 Oh wow! That's awesome! How are you finding the F30? Are you enjoying it? Thank you, its nice to be back. 😄
Glad to see you back buddy 👍
@mattewbarnes1561 Hey buddy! Thanks for your patience! 😀👍🏻
Thank you very much for manking this video. I am replacing tie rods on my E60 and you made it much easier.
@chrisantoniou19 Hi Chris, you're very welcome. I'm so pleased the video helped you out. Thank you for leaving a comment 👍🏻
@@TheBimmerFixer The only thing I did differently was that I screwed on and torqued the inner tie rod first, then screwed on the outter rod and alligned it by eye after putting the wheel back on. Putting the whole tie rod in is very hard as it kept knocking on the rest of the control arms and couldn't screw in because of how tight the new parts are. The car went to the garage after for a proper allignment which only cost me around 30 quid.
@thebimmerfixer Great video TBF don't list to Janis 😂
If you turn the steering rack in until the 38mm nut is just protruding, the chance of bending the arm is lessened. You risk bending the arm with it fully extended and the nut is tight.
@daveraybould63 Thats a very good point! 👍🏻
Hi mate .any vids on how to fit a Bluetooth upgrade when you haven't got an aux port . Thanks
Bmw E60 535D m sport .
@carlwilby4191 Hi mate. Unfortunately not sorry. Best way to do it is buy an AUX adapter kit that automatically codes the Idrive when you plug it in the back of the ccc then that would give you the wire to do what I did in the Bluetooth Audio video.
OK mate thank you
Thank you very much!
@zontarr8812 You are very welcome 👍🏻
Having knocking sound in mine when i brake usually. Even in idle when parked can hear it sometimes. Not sure what it is :(
@AbdulHaq11901 Hi, what engine do you have? Could be timing chain knocking.
@@TheBimmerFixer hi its n53 b30
@AbdulHaq11901 ok is it a constant knocking sounds or is it a bit random? And comes and goes?
@@TheBimmerFixer it happens alot when im braking and turning. In idle will happen randomly. Sounds like disa maybe or brakes issue. Maybe it is the tie rod. I will check the wheels today for any play to make sure first.

You shouldn’t teach others if you don’t know what you doing yourself. So many mistakes. Jesus!!!
