    I learned so much in the progress of making this video! And in the posting of this video I learned I can't pronounce 'jaguar' correctly🤦‍♀🤷‍♀ Oops! There's a good chance I will never have to pronounce it again on this channel but at least I have gotten 'awl' down now!😄

      Oh my dear, I am right there with you! I am from Maine, northeast USA and we say jaguar like jagwahhhhh, nobody understands us and that’s ok with us! We apologize to everybody all the time, but nobody understands our speech up here. It’s all relative.

      @Susan Jenssen I love to hear different US accents and locally used terms! Most of my educational years were in the midwest and then I finished up highschool and went to college in the south. I think this made my accent pretty neutral however random sounds and vowel pronunciations pop up every now and then and who know where they are from😄

      So I’ve been watching your other videos and I’m wondering how sturdy furniture made with styrofoam board would be? I’m wondering if it could be played with by a child - I still need a kitchen for a dollhouse and I’m wondering if I should just buy one premade.

    Hey Vet Tech here... so the heart is actually very central in the chest, however it does hang a little more off to the side. It's easiest to access it if we take off the sternum because that is connected to the ribs by cartilage. There are different types of heart/chest surgery and taking off the sternum is much gentler (The healing time is quicker and easier) than cracking open the ribs. The scene with the shot of adrenaline in Pulp Fiction always bothers me, because he was a little too off and probably would have missed the heart or just grazed the heart... plus a myriad of other issues.

    • @DanceswithDustBunnies
      @DanceswithDustBunnies 2 роки тому +8

      A friend of mine recently had open heart surgery to correct a birth defect. They had to "crack" the ribs and literally open the ribcage like opening an old-fashioned coin purse, so the wide, central opening absolutely makes sense. I'm wondering if the scene in Dr Strange has the needle too far to the left, too.

    • @sarahmccollum3694
      @sarahmccollum3694 2 роки тому +3

      That scene was meant to be awkward and inaccurate. It gave me pause too and I know almost nothing about medical procedures but I thought it looked off too. Great acting, for sure, that's why it worked. Thanks, Ladyofdeath.

      The make up artists and costumers did such a great job telling a story with each character just by looking at them! I think that is what has made them so fun to create. If they all looked normal like Adam and Barbara and had to 'story' they would not have been near as fun to make!

    Oh, for heart surgery guy, your story reminded me of something I read years ago and would make (I think) a good addition to your self surgery story.
    Real life Russian surgeon Dr. Leonid Rogozov performed appendix surgery on himself. He was the only medical doctor on a research station in Antarctic in 1961 when he developed appendicitis. He lived and became a bit of a hero in Russia. Dr. Heart heard the story and wanted his share of the spotlight by attempts self performed open heart surgery. Obviously, his self surgery didn’t go well.
    The new inhabitants of the waitstaff room are amazing! I am so looking forever to Miss. Argentina.

    • @BentleyHouseMinis
      @BentleyHouseMinis  2 роки тому +1

      That was one of the stories I read too when I was researching and I was blown away! Exactly.... the pride of Dr. Heart was his down fall. I think self-surgery makes more sense when its literally the ONLY option to save your life... otherwise that's not a great idea! Thank you!

    • @SusanYeske701
      @SusanYeske701 2 роки тому

      Yeah, that's why they don't let you do that kind of research mission in Antarctica unless you have your appendix out. No one wants a repeat that might have a more tragic outcome.

    & finally Juno the case worker.
    In the movie there was a sleeping bag guy with a rattlesnake in it but since there are no more room in the waiting room it still came out incredible.

    Oh yes the medicine man and I get to see a pin-head Beetlejuice? Brilliant, the scene was just too brilliant when it didn't include the witch doctor shrinking his head. The dead patient, well I'm glad that heart surgeries aren't so brutal anymore, a lot happens invasively, via catheter, with probes and balloons, you don't always have to break and open your ribs right away, you really used to have that complete chest opened. But who knows, maybe his doctor was Dr. Nick or Dr. burns ^^ I'm looking forward to your next ideas. Maybe even a sandworm desert in front of the kitchen window? ^^ Keep it up, I always have a lot of fun. ^^

    I love your explanation for the shaman. It could have been a simple translation issue. The hunter said, “I’ll give you the shotgun, and you’ll give me a shrunken head.” And the shaman said, “That’s an odd request, but ok.” and gave the hunter a shrunken head. It just happened to be his own.

    This is as usual so cool, I don´t find it gory at all, dose this make me weird? it is life, and not real as we do not know what the after life is really like, except, I am now going to sound so freaky, but before my daughter was born I had an experience. It was a beautiful place, a long bridge led up to a door, where a strong white light shone forth, a man, I think it was my grandfather met me at the bridge, he hugged me. I wanted to stay, but he said no, I had to go back....was this a dream or real???????????I have no Idea. But love what you do.

    How interesting! I visited COSI (a science museum in Columbus, Ohio today) and read about the Shuar tribe and why they shrunk heads. They believed their fallen enemies' souls would seek revenge unless they performed the ritual of shrinking the skin of their heads and sewing the mouth shut. They shrunk the heads by filling them with progressively smaller hot rocks, ultimately finishing with sand.

    The heart is actually placed in the middle of the chest. Protected by the sternum. Which is right in the middle of the ribs. The reason why it feels to the left, thus becoming popular opinion, is because the aorta is located to the left. This is the main artery which is the main pump line to the rest body. That is why people are more likely to bleed to death when suffering a laceration on the left rather than the right. Because the artery is what gets damaged, the heart keeps pumping blood toward the wound draining the body in seconds. That is why death is not instant as if the laceration was directly in the heart. It’s good to know where the damage is located in case you find yourself helping you know what their chances of survival are and approximately how much time they have.

  • @imnickij

    I think the incision is in the middle because they need to crack the sternum, which is central to the torso. At least, that's what I've gleaned from too many rewarltches of Grey's Anatomy 😂

    While I am no doctor, I think having the opening in the center rather than where the heart is is the difference between having a lot of free floating ribs vs cutting in half where they are fastened in front? Heck, what do I know, I just had head surgery. 😉
    On another note, it is interesting to me that pipe-cleaners will probably live on far beond the existense of pipes? I mean, they are so convenient for hobbyists and model makers, it is as if it was made for that purpose rather than... well, cleaning pipes! 🙂
    Oh well.

    • @BentleyHouseMinis
      @BentleyHouseMinis  2 роки тому +1

      That makes a lot of sense and several have said it's easier and less painful to go through the sternum. I hadn't thought of that before but I am 100% sure that people use pipe cleaners way more than pipes anymore... especially since society has cut way back on smoking in recent years! One day someone will have to explain what a pipe is to explain where these strange fluffy things came from😄

    • @signaltome
      @signaltome 2 роки тому

      @@BentleyHouseMinis Hopefully there WILL be a time when smoking is just a bad memory. Wouldn't that be nice. 😅
      But yeah, big strides in the last 15 years or so, despite intervention from the big smoke business people.
      I mean, when I grew up I had a large family, and every event (birthdays, Christmas etc.) we all came togethere one place or another. And my mother, one aunt, one uncle, a grandmother and another grandfather, two of their parents and a few others on and off all smoked and all of them smoked INSIDE! I mean, the living room was like a foggy day at the worst. So not a big fan tbh. 😉
      Edit: Why did I go on with a big rant about smoking? The smoking man was... what, TWO videos ago? 😛Anyway, the room is filling up, good job.

    My dad had 5 way bypass surgery, after he was home, I stayed with him for a while until he was cleared to shower again. While I was there, he got a phone call, and was extremely emotional after the call. Never saw him cry before. Apparently it was the wife of a guy he was in high school with. His friend had the SAME surgery on the SAME day, but didn't survive the surgery. That kind of surgery changes a person, because you have your heart stopped, and I guess it's like a near death experience. After that my father was a lot more generous with his finances, giving larger gifts at holidays.

    The reason the cut is in the center is because the cut goes through the sternum. If the cut was made on the left side it would go through multiple ribs which probably would take longer to heal and harder to get it to heal correctely.
