I've seen so many reactions to this, but yours is by far shows the best love and warmth.. genuine.. I love how you had her back from beginning to end. Susan is absolutely amazing. She spent her life, putting her dreams on hold to take care of her Mother. At 47 she was finally able to pursue her dreams
I completely agree about the bullying! Including what you said about Simon. For his credit he did recognised his mistake and made sure that even if she did not win the contest that she got a record deal. She made few records after that. I have most of them. Her voice is perfect in the studio setting. Worth getting.
@@samhartford8677 Simon also had her back when she had a meltdown early in her career. He reduced her schedule and made sure she got help, and when she was diagnosed with Asperger's he made sure she performed and recorded on her schedule instead of being pushed. His love for and management of Susan raised him up in my estimation. He proved that there can be kindness under all the snark.
"Shows the best love and warmth", nah. Guarantee that if she went into the video not knowing Susan could sing, she would have been reacting the same as the people in the audience. She already had a bias before watching the video.
The was one of the most magical moments in the history of television. She had autism and had been badly bullied as a child, leading to a rather isolated life. She had spent her entire adult life caring for her elderly invalid parents. After they passed away, she built up the courage to go on this audition. Ironically, she ended up finishing second that season...but she has gone on to a HUGELY successful career, selling millions of albums and is now one of Britains biggest singing stars. She actually signed on with Simon's record company and he has become her manager. Despite all the success, she still lives in her little village and remains a humble and gracious person.
Susan Boyle's audition - the perfect thing we need right now in this world. A woman who was bullied, rejected and alone because she spent years taking care of her parents but dreamed a dream and it came true. Always makes me feel good to see it.
It had less to do with her looks. Trying to be a profesional singer at the age of 47 and sing this good is like 1 chance in a million. Im not suprised the judges and the audiience didnt belive her.
Brilliant reaction you're a girl after my own heart stand up to bullies Susan Boyle's a much nicer person then there's ridiculing her from the audience. And those cowards that have bullied her through her child and adulthood.
That last line just rips me apart every time I hear it. I have lived my life badly and now time is nearly gone. [ My life has killed the dream, I dreamed. ]
Dear Bobby please look to the one who made you. He can redeem the years in one way or another and give you a future. Please Bobby turn to Jesus. He redeemed my life and He can redeem yours. You can't roll back the years but you can move into a good and purposeful future. God bless you.
Your reaction is PRICELESS!! One of the best I have EVER seen! Such pure JOY on your face! This video brings tears to my eyes every single time I watch it! IMO this is one of the most inspiring moments in TV history. Seeing this woman share her special gift with the world and win the audience over despite their initial judgement... it is just so magical! And indeed, it should teach us all not to judge others prematurely! Such an inspiring video and story.
This is without a doubt a tribute to the triumph of the human spirit. Her performance struck such a chord with so many and in different ways. There were even threats made against those who made faces at the beginning. She overcame a lot just to get up and sing and would have to endure even more in the months that followed.
Susan said she wished her parent could have lived long enough to see her success & acceptance around the world. I recall, in a part of a documentary, when she and Simon were in a very large and luxurious hotel and Susan said something about doing something her "boss" wanted. Simon quickly corrected her, "You're the boss. I'm working for you." It was a nice moment.
Sadly my mum passed away last November. I remember when she saw this audition and rang me so excited. She was an instant fan. This song always reminds me of my gorgeous mum.
"She made Simon look stoopid!" "Everyone laughing at her because of her age, y'all look stoopid now. Stoopid!" I've watched a lot of reactions to this song (I can't help it) and this one is one of the best, if not the best. This audition brings me to tears most every time, and lifts me up too when I'm feeling down. This song is deep too and from a play based on a book by Victor Hugo in the 1800s dealing with the social situation in France at the time...the same things we're dealing with today, btw. Here's something from Wikipedia: "Hugo explained his ambitions for the novel to his Italian publisher:[9] I don't know whether it will be read by everyone, but it is meant for everyone. It addresses England as well as Spain, Italy as well as France, Germany as well as Ireland, the republics that harbour slaves as well as empires that have serfs. Social problems go beyond frontiers. Humankind's wounds, those huge sores that litter the world, do not stop at the blue and red lines drawn on maps. Wherever men go in ignorance or despair, wherever women sell themselves for bread, wherever children lack a book to learn from or a warm hearth, Les Misérables knocks at the door and says: "open up, I am here for you"." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Misérables

When he said that he expected "something extraordinary" he was poking fun at himself. He expected something extraordinarily bad but got something extraordinarily great. It's British humor, wry and self-deprecating.
In real life Susan was very shy. She is the youngest of about 10 children and her siblings told her she was slow so she had to stay home until their Mother died and look after her. Susan did that with love because she wanted to. That is why she waited until she was 47. She did sing with Elaine Page, she looks so pretty now and happy. Simon became her manager and he is a really good one. He knew when she was afraid. You can yell at him but he loves her like family. She is worth a lot of money now but she still lives in the little house she grew up in. She had the kitchen and bathroom updated and the other rooms painted. If Simon wasn’t careful at the start she would have broken down but he sees these things. So it was always at her pace. Susan is wonderful and a joy. My adopted daughter was in Les Miserables as Eponine. She also sings this song like Susan does. Or she did until she walked away from the stage.

What a wonderful memory of my mother (I was her caregiver much as Susan Boyle was with her parents) calling me in to the next room to watch Susan Boyle's audition. Mom was blown away and we shared a love of her talent. Mom only ever had 2 cds, Susan Boyle and Andrea Bocelli. And I had to tape instructions of how to work the cd player to the wall for her to use it. I had forgotten that! Miss you, Mom - love you!
There are longer versions of this with both her pre interview and her post interview..those are good to see also. She's so unconscious of her talent. This still makes me cry.

He done the same on another BGT audition. Charlotte and Jonathan , 16 and 17 at the time. "just when you thought it couldn't get any worse" he said.I highly recommend that one too
