- I've had really good luck with growing sweet potatoes in straw bales. This time we got some really big ones. You never know what you will get when it comes time to harvest sweet potatoes. This time we didn't get very many, but there were a couple of good sized ones. Let us know if you've ever tried growing sweet potatoes in straw bales.

Pretty leaves on that variety. 😃 Thanks for introducing them to me!
You're welcome! Glad I could help.
Jim, I think I've only had one good year growing sweet potatoes, the other few times they didn't produce much. I haven't tried growing them again for over 10 years now. Maybe next year we'll all have good luck (yes, I plan on trying them again). I hope you and your lovely Mrs. Midwest Gardener are enjoying a nice weekend. ~Margie🤗
Hello Margie. I hope we both have a great year for them next year. I mainly hope we get a normal amount of rain next year. This year was so dry here. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
There’re some good-sized sweet potatoes there. Would love to see some more of those though. I hope you’re doing well. Take care and have a lovely weekend.
Thanks! There weren't very many, but they made up for it a little with the size of them. Have a great weekend!
I love sweet potato harvests. Sorry that it was only three. I had a lousy harvest myself but like you said, there's always next year.
I love to harvest them too. Yes, we gardeners are always looking forward to next year. I think that is a good thing though.
That was a giant sweet potato.
I think it was an overall bad growing year for sweet potatoes. I've seen a lot of wireworm damage on the potatoes when they show them up close. Every video that I have watched has had a less than satisfactory harvest. Even my harvest. Maybe next year will be better for everyone. Sweet potatoes like the heat but not the drought. I'm glad to see you feeling better and back out in the garden. Have a great weekend.🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
Yep, that was a big one. I'm hoping next year will be better too....for both of us. I know it will be for me :) It feels good to get back out in the garden again. Have a great weekend!
This year's sweet potatoes in my garden didn't do much better. SW MI. It took forever for them to make slips and the got planted very late. My friend in Boise, ID also had trouble getting the potatoes to make slips. Next season instead of starting slips in water I will try to make starts in soil. Thanks for the video.
Yes, timing the slips can be a problem sometimes. I've started slips in water and soil. Water is more convenient for me. It doesn't hurt to try new things though.
Good Morning Jim - Little disappointing on the overall harvest but you at least got a couple big ones. I think it has been a very tough growing season for just about everyone I watch and predictions for the future are not looking great. Still working on fall clean up for next year before the snow flies. Thanks for the update and have a great weekend..
Good morning! I still have some clean up work to do also. Cold weather will be here before we know it. We have been pretty lucky so far, except for not getting enough rain. Have a great weekend!
Would that straw bale method do ok in Texas? We have so much humility and heat... Id like to try it . Your garden is always so impressive. And you know i love the voice!
Thanks! I'm not sure, but it wouldn't hurt to try one bale and see what happens.
