    It is true that the looser the soil the bigger the sweet potatoes can become. I live in an island where sweet potato is the staple but we've never grown it this way.. very interesting how you grow your sweet potato. Will be trying this new technique. We have at least 20 heirloom varieties growing where i live in Northern most island of Philippines. Thank you very much

      We also make nutritious juice from the sweet potato tops by boiling it. You can add up a drop of lemon juice to perk up flavor. The sweet potato tops when sauted, add just enough water is the best cure for hang over! Believe me.

      Very interesting. Thanks for sharing that information. Wow, 20 varieties is a lot! I will have only 9 varieties growing this year. And thanks for the tip on the hang over cure. I'm sure other folks who find this will appreciate that one.

      We are also pretty superstitious when we plant sweet potato. It is a practice handed down to us to plant during full moon and low tide- following such practice has not failed to produce huge and sweetest roots. Thank you and good day.

    If you have a raised bed that you can put sawdust in in the last of March through the first week of May, you put about two or three inches of sawdust and place some sweet potatoes in to get slips from. Then, place about 3 or 4 more inches of sawdust.
    Putting the sweet potatoes in the sawdust to get slips is easy. You just make your way to the sweet potatoes in the sawdust and snap off the slips.

    Wow! I am amazingly inspired! I have tried just about every method for growing potatoes here in Alaska. This was my first year growing potatoes using the Ruth Stout method. Of course, I was very skeptical of this method, but I am now sold on using old hay!! I had the best harvest yield yet and it was so simple, peeling back layers of hay and bam! Potatoes & lots of them! Now after watching your video on sweet potatoes, which I have always desired to grow, I will be adding hay bales to the mix next spring. Thank you my midwestern gardening friend!

I usually save and replant the smallest potatoes from this year. (The size of a french fry). I don't get clusters like everyone else. • @MidwestGardener
      @MidwestGardener  4 роки тому

      I think I usually start conditioning the bales about the 1st of April, or maybe a little earlier. I kind of go by the weather a little bit, because they take a lot longer to condition the colder it is. I plant the slips about like I plant anything else. I make a planting hole in the bale and add some soil. Here is how I condition the bale if you haven't seen that video: ua-cam.com/video/tredysH3-ck/v-deo.html
