Yes, that is my understanding as well. While his net worth is nowhere near James/Lars/Kirk, Jason's earnings from The Black Album alone is enough to sustain a really nice lifestyle. And... his only writing credit on that album is on My Friend Of Misery. Crazy.
@@rayrayallday Agreed. Even just in this video you can see the slow down/drop off of sales once streaming (and let's be honest, pirating) music becomes a thing.

Notice as soon as Jason left, their sales went down. When he left I stopped listening to them for a long time. I’m back into them now, but I still miss Jason.

About the Big 4 and how massivevly big Metallica is... Each album sold more than anything on Slayer's discography, and the EP I'm The Man from Anthrax is the only thing they (Anthrax) made that is near to those Metallica albums, having sold 1,050,000 copies on the United States. "Metallica" is literally the worldwide sales from Slayer (aprox., actually, because they have between 15 or 16 and 20 million, I think) while Anthrax has estimated sales of more than 10,000,000 (I don't know if 11, 12, 14 million or other value).
Interesting that the two best selling albums were when they were actually metal and Newsted was the bassist. After they cut their hair, went alternative, and Newsted left is when it all went downhill. Now they're basically has-beens and living off of Black and Justice For All.

Love that Justice held 2nd place throughout! 🤘
that shows the actual scale of how massive the sales for black album were. this is FUCKING UNBELIEVABLE
I read an article once that said Jason newsted would be good on royalties alone. That makes alot more sense now

Jason wrote the blackened main riff. My favorite

Do these numbers include non US sales, or is this more recent data for the US? If it’s the latter, I’d be interested in the source.

I’m sure that had something to do with that 😅
Streaming and downloads were responsible for that.

Thank you!

You won't get an argument from me on that.
Ironic since/when the expresion "ride the lightning" means to die from the electric chair.
This is the saddest video I've ever seen! :(
