Are you surprised? That thing has a freakin cap that holds the pressure of a freakin 50 cal round. Wow, sure it holds the pressure of standard ammo, but a gun should also be designed to handle failures at least in such a way to let the gun explode in the opposite direction in case of an over pressure error. My mind is boggled how people still defend that sewer pipe of a rifle. Wouldn’t shoot that thing if it was for free.

Engineering is pretty much using as little material and money as possible to make something that’s passable
RN 50 was supposed to be an affordable 50 cal. The average price is around $1600. From what I see on sale for other rifles go for $4500-15000.

When they ask, "Is it hard?" And a guy says, "Blue Steel!" He isn't talking about cast iron under blue powder coat. It looks like some impressive damage until you realize the BIG difference between an economy, cast iron anvil, and a pricey, forged steel anvil. So if anyone watching is imagining getting this much penetration on "Hummer," or APC, armor plate, you should know not to expect near this much penetration. Military armor is made to handle much more of a beating than a soft, easily breakable cast iron anvil. This is just a demonstration of the effectiveness of caliber, and projectile type, on a low cost anvil. Forged steel anvils can be pricey, and out of the range that he would want to spend just to torture it with hot tungsten and lead. Besides, a good quality, forged steel anvil is a piece of art that you just wouldn't want to torture, or destroy, unless you just don't care, and have a good chunka dough to blow.
Another thing to consider is range. Most combat engagements will usually have a lot more distance for the projectile to travel before contact with a target. If you noticed the slow motion tracer shot, the red tracer pellet had not had time to ignite by the time the projectile hit the anvil. What we saw burning on the aft end of that projectile during flight was gold in color, and was the layer of priming compound that coats the aft end of the tracer pellet. That compound's purpose is to ignite the tracer pellet composition, that is pressed so hard into a solid pellet, that it most likely wouldn't ignite very well, if at all, if fired without the priming compound. The red tracer pellet had just lit as the projectile was digging into the anvil, and the pellet broke off and flew off to the right about ten feet away or so. You could still hear the tracer pellet sizzling as it burned on the ground. Anyway, point is that most combat engagements, especially sniper work, are usually done over much greater distances that, for a heavy projectile like .50 BMG, causes the projectile to lose velocity and energy fairly quickly as flight time and distance get greater and greater. At the muzzle .50 BMG is devastating, in the ballpark of 2,700 fps and 11,000 ft lbs. However, at say 2,000 yards its velocity, and energy, are down to around 930 fps and 1,280 ft lbs. At the maximum distance of 2,600 yds most .50 BMG loads will be down to around 810 fps and 980 ft lbs. At those distances penetration through even the thinnest armor steel is a "long shot."

The main reason the smaller calibre rifles didn't penetrate far into the anvil is due to you firing FMJ instead of AP. The hardened steel or tungsten carbide cores of the AP rounds are far better at penetrating due to the hardness of the material and the higher strength compared to lead. Also you where fine at 5:24 as it was only the tracer element that detached from the rear of the round coming back.
