Never tried an iPhone, always liked the Android, as it's served my needs just fine.

Well of course when you switch from one OS to a completely different OS that makes privacy and security a top priority, there is going to be initial pains with the setup. I just switched to the iPhone 12 from a Galaxy S20, and sure it took a little while to transfer and readjust to iOS, but I now find iOS to be much better than Android. I know Android has literally infinite customization options, but when you use an iPhone, you start to forget about it and let the OS sort-of decide for you. In iOS, there's no need to be overwhelmed by the thousands of different thing you could change on an Android device. Plus, the whole privacy and security thing with iOS is a huge bonus, in addition to iOS being optimized for Apple's chips. iOS overall feels more fluid, responsive, and simple. Simplicity is often the key to a better user experience, just saying.

My main gripe with iPhone is that the gesture navigation is inconsistent. In android, when I swipe from the edge of the screen, it will send me back to the previous page in whatever app I'm using. In an iphone, it's a puzzle, a game of guessing, it depends on which app and at what page with the most annoying is when I have to reach to the top of the screen to press the X button.
Therefore, I have concluded that iphones are most suitable if you fall into any of the categories:
    1. you don't know much about smartphone and just want a reliable smartphone with fast processor
    2. you want to use your phone for a really long time - 5 years or longer (assuming it didn't broke first)

Inform yourself, make a decision and when you do, don't troll the OS because something was missing. I bounce around both. However what you gain is simplicity and the idea of how things will work out because it's apple. Functionality, simplicity, speed, etc. I swapped mainly because I wanted a change of pace and also all friends of mine are on iPhones now. To communicate quicker and easier, I swapped over and it definitely feels like i joined a new family. I still adore Android features, but for now Apple align with my goals. There is a few annoyances though, where I was really shocked as I expected exactly what the OP described: Simplicity, ease of use, basically the "it just works" experience.
One example I was googling way longer than I should have to find a solution just to find out there isn't one:
I wanted to just "globally" mute Notifications (the "bing" sound when I get messages etc.) without muting the phone altogether (so to have calls still ringing), this is a feature I just took for granted on Android for years.
On iOS this simply doesn't exist!!! I have to manually mute/disable notifications for every single fucking app, or mute the phone altogether, it's driving me nuts and I'm still not done sorting through all of them.
This is just one example of quite a few but stuff like this is bugging me more than it probably should because my everyday user experience feels noticeably worse than before now, not better, easier or simplified...

Just some things you should know before switching that I thought was annoying after switching recently. The notifications and tool bar are separate and it's a bit annoying reaching to the left top side of screen to see notifications and sliding right opens the notification. The back button is a big thing too. Going back is a bit different in every app, you can slide right sometimes from the left side of screen or other way around or click the tiny back button on the top of screen, Android was just so much easier. Downloading music and listening is 100x harder on iPhone, probably my biggest pain. No messenger chat heads. So I have to switch the app but a trade off is you can read the messages in the notifications bar. it can be complicated to move data from Android to iPhone. It took me a few hours redownloading apps and changing passwords. Also the swipes are annoying. You need to really slide down the whole screen to open notifications or tool bar if you do it slow. But sliding down fast opens it straight away. That's all

@@coldskoolbeatzI have been an iphone user for 10 years and recently made the switch to Android.
And now I totally understand what android users are talking about when it comes to the iOS keyboard. It is soooo counterintuitive.
It's so bleak and slim that it's not a good keyboard at all, I have been using Gboard on a Samsung device and it's heavenly!!
Two little pet peeves about Gboard is that the emoji key icon is right besides the space bar to the left and i accidentally tap on it sooo many times while typing and also that you can't move the cursor up or down you can only move it left to right. On the iOS keyboard I can hold the space bar and move the cursor all around up and down anywhere in the box. On gboard it restricts you to only move to the left or right.
But I can just tap somewhere instead to get the cursor their but that's my only issues.
Gboard is wayyyy better than iOS keyboard

Thanks for the video. I'm still deciding whether to make the switch. The compelling part of Apple - is the simplicity. They control everything, so everything works. The repelling part is that they control EVERYTHING. Android can get frustrating because, like you said, it has so many choices. Sometimes you just want things to work. I really wish Windows had stayed in - Windows for PC has always had the right balance - it all works out of the box BUT you can play and customize to fit you too. I also keep hoping Amazon will get in the phone game. I'm already bought into their ecosystem with my echo's and kindles - may as well go all in but need a native Amazon phone to make it all work seemlessly. A lot of prime features I don't use because integration is difficult. This is harder than buying a house!!

I moved from the galaxy note 9 to the iPhone 12 pro a few weeks ago. I had the iPhone 3GS and was frustrated that it was not as computer like with my windows laptop. I didn’t like iTunes. From there I when to android and windows phone. I then tried the iPhone 8plus for 6 months and went back to android with galaxy note 9. I definitely had a better experience with Samsung after goodlock and pop up windows. Unfortunately I learned in the last 2.5 I like updates and better app quality. I used multitasking almost every week but apple made enough changes to convert me overt with 12 pro max. I’m into video and music production and android wasn’t cutting it enough. My paid music apps broke with android updates and I also needed a faster computer for editing videos. I found out my 2018 iPad is faster than my i5 intel 5200 processor at rendering video in the apps I were using. I already have paid iPad apps that still work and one that was broken with an update was fixed. I really miss multitasking. Having android phone these days are good. It’s like they say quantity vs quality. You get a lot of tech in android phones but they aren’t worth as much a few years down the road then it’s on to the next big thing. I see iOS as more of an investment now that depreciates slowly. I just don’t have time these days trying to make things work on android when if you just learn iOS. it works. Those comments people make about the walled garden are true and worth every penny you pay. You can get most of your money back if you don’t like it. I can’t say the same of my android phones. I only plan to use android as a secondary WiFi phone. Looking back a pixel might be the best option unless Samsung sticks to their 3 year promise. Thing is who knows if you will be left with a buggy update as your last.

I came here to see if there was anything specific I’d be missing out on or if I need to prepare for anything specific, but, conveniently, none of your 6 major reasons really apply to me at this point in life! Im sure the CPU specs you brought up at the end are super valid, but I’m going from an iPhone X to a brand new model. Im sure I’ll be just as blown away by my new android! Im looking forward to being able to customize and clear out some things in the transition. I don’t have many apple products anymore as I switched to a PC last year and use a Fitbit rather than an Apple Watch. In my experience, iPhone batteries deteriorate over time and it won’t be that great for very long, so I’m psyched to have the rapid charging option on my new phone! Many people in my family have already made the switch so we’re already using things like secondary apps for video calls. Considering switching to IOS. What should I do? People who have switched from android, do you regret it? Did the below issues trouble you enough or are there work arounds?
    1. File management- I have a lot of PDF documents in a folder on my Home Screen in android which gives me quick access to certain documents quickly which I need during the day. I have heard on iPhone this is not possible?
    2. Charging. All my devices have USB C. My car has the old standard large USB port instead of the smaller USB C. So I will also have to buy a separate charging cable for my car (old lightning to USB cable) if I want to use CarPlay as the one that comes with the iPhone is USB C to USB C which can not plug into my car. Also, this old lightning cable supports slower charging speeds I hear. Where as on my android, they still have the standard USB to USB C cables.
    3. I have smart TVs and android makes it extremely easily to cast your phone to smart TVs (either mirror your display or stream your media to the TV). For apple iPhone, to do this same functionality you need Apple TV which is an additional expenditure. Only the very recent smart TVs have apple airplay built into them, but with android, you can pretty much cast any device to even the older Smart TVs due to DLNA technology. Makes it easy to share my photos with the family on the big screen.
    4. Repairs. Generally much cheaper to repair an android phone if something were to go wrong or even simple things such as replacing the battery.
    5. WIdgets. I can have fullscreen WhatsApp widget on my android hoemscreen as well as calendar widget and my notes widget helping me to keep my day organised. I hear IOS widgets are a bit more limited in their functionality.
    6. Camera. I think its nice to have 3 cameras (standard, wide and telephoto). I have used zoom on my phone a couple of times and having no dedicated zoom on the standard iPhone 12 is a bit of a put off.
    7. Split screen- I have used this a reasonable number of times now. my main use case is when filling in a form or something and having the other window open with the information I require. I used to think it was a novelty but it genuinely does come in handy sometimes.
    8. I hate the notch but people said once you use it you get used to it quickly.
Why I'm considering switching to iPhone:
    1. Battery life- I hear battery management on iOS is better and better Screen on time as well as standby time.
    2. Regular software updates and longer support
    3. Better optimised applications and probably better reliability. Pretty much everyone has said gaming is superior on iPhone and the A14 Bionic crushes any other chip out there.
What should I do? People who have switched from android, do you regret it?

    • @rotoast8113
      @rotoast8113 2 роки тому

      9. Automation. The "Shortcut" app on iOS is a nice approach, but at this point: it's a joke, more or less.
      10. Personal Hotspot via USB requires iTunes.
      11. The "sandbox-y-ness" of apps. Ever tried to use a cloud storage service (to a certain extent) other than iCloud? Or saving file locally and coming back to it afterwards from within the app? Or make 3rd party apps do things in the background reliably? It's a huge pain.

Some of the stuff I loved however the lack of customisation and the camera limitations ended it or me, the notification management is still garbage in comparison to android too. I’m massively in to photography and of course the 12 pro max is fantastic for pictures and video but 2.5x zoom in 2020 is just silly, I’ll stick with my note 20 ultra for now 👍🏻. Although users are spoilt for choice on Android with so many devices, unfortunately most of them have various quality issues . These range software/ GUI and go to various hardware problems: Bluetooth and wireless reception, battery life, overheating, build quality etc. Another key advantage for iPhone is the form factor. If you want a compact premium pjone there is no choice for you at the moment on Android. Well there is Samsung S20 but the Exynos version has known serious problems so there you have it...

I just switched from a Google Pixel 4XL to an iPhone 13 Pro Max 512. I have never used an iPhone before.
I still love Android. But there are a few gaps in my experience I would say.
My wife uses iPhone and is pretty happy with it and will probably not switch back to Android. So it would be nice for both of us to be on the same ecosystem. I do plan on getting an iPad some day as it doesn't seem that there is a decent competitor to it on the Android side of things.
Finally, and probably the thing that tipped me the most is that I just bought a new '22 Subaru Outback. Subaru has not integrated Android Auto's portrait mode to fit the 12" portrait display in the Outback. This is an issue for me as only a tiny portion of the screen is used for AA navigation. I also am having increasing frustration with AA and the bugs with phone connectivity, device recognition, dropping my Bluetooth connection once I connect the device to the car with a cable. My wife has an old iPhone 8, super basic model, and it fills the screen, and does not have any of the connectivity issues that Android Auto has.
I still love Android phones and will not be one of those ecosystem fascists, but I think this switch, while having some initial pains with apps/messaging/synching/etc.... will, overall, be the better move for me.

My biggest pain was moving photos - Apple's "Move to iOS" app on Android move all 20k+ images to my new iPhone, including Whatsapp pics, screenshots and other trash. I had to remove everything from the iPhone, back up photos from Google Photos to PC and then upload from PC to iCloud. All Google Photos didn't download to iPhone due to some reason.
