I am in the process of setting up a bigger crabitat for our two crabbies. I purchased 2 bags of Sekrete sand and I let it completely dry on a big blanket for a couple of days. Then I rehydrated one brick of eco earth and I air dried it for several days until it was completely dry. When I mixed the completely dry sand and eco earth (5:1), the substrate is super dry and I can’t squish it in my hand or make a “hole” with my finger like you did in this video. I didn’t place it in my tank yet because I am not done with decorating it but my question is - is my bone dry substrate going to get to the sand castle consistency after I place it in a sealed tank on its own?
Mix your substrate well and put it in your tank, then let me know what size tank and how many inches of substrate you have so I can tell you what to do next.
@@landhermitcrabeducenterAwesome! Thank you ☺️ I will let you know all of that once I am done setting up the whole tank. I am still waiting for several things to arrive and I think that finishing the whole tank will take me a few more weeks if not more. I am putting a topper on the base tank as well and I need to find someone who will custom make the lid for the part of my tank where the topper doesn’t reach. When I am done with all of that and I fill the tank with the substrate, I will reach out to you again. Thank you for all your help! I really appreciate it!
I am in the same situation as patriciallong5502. I have a 40 gallon breeder tank I am using. I could not find Sacrete play sand, so I purchased the Quikrete play sand. It is BONE BONE dry, like dust rises when I pour it out of the bag. Should I use Eco Earth bricks, rehydrate them and add the rehydraeted coco fiber (MOIST) to the bone dry sand, in order to make the substrate able to make holes (not sand castle consitencey, but able to make holes). Or...should I use the dry LOOSE bags of coco fiber and simply add that to the bone dry play sand? I just don't want to make any mistankes and don't want to end up with mold. Thank you so much in advance for any suggestions you may be able to give.
@@soniauke you can use the dry bag. Once you add the depth that you would like inside your tank mix very well, so you do not see any cocoa fiber patches. Once you mix everything together. Do a few poke test to see if it holds up if it doesn’t hold up add 1/4 cup of primed water at a time till your poke test holds up.

@@patricialong5502 your very welcome 😊
Hi. What size bag is the coco fiber ?
It’s a 4 oz bag. What ever size bag you get just know it’s 2 oz you will add or 1 full measuring cup
