  • Have you ever wondered what types of expenses (surprise and expected) you'll have with the purchase of a new sportfishing boat? Well, we've now been on that journey over the past few months and we've already learned quite a few lessons with respect to all the difference costs one should expect, such as:
    -cosmetic repairs
    -engine maintenance and repairs
    -new and upgraded equipment
    -general boat ownership fees (like slip rental)
    -and more
    But even with all the surprises, the journey has already been a blast, and we wouldn't change it for the world.

      Appreciate that J, very much. The channel is very, very young, but what you're describing is my goal for sure. We feel if we keep putting quality content out there, on a consistent basis, UA-cam will eventually say, "Hey, I need to suggest these videos a lot more!" 😀 We shall see. Happy fishing to you J and tight lines!

    What about costs like:
    Navigation updates/ subscriptions
    Generator fuel/dock electric costs
    Life raft recertification
    Running gear zincs
    Boat washing/wax on the hard
    Cost per day on the hard
    Just to name a few.

    Really enjoyed your video. We grew up on Long Island Sound here in CT, and had boats, did a lot of blue fishing. I'm familiar with the amount of work that goes into a boat's maintenance. I'm wondering, when you purchased the Speechless, were you aware that you were about to drop another $57K on it, and did you adjust your offer price accordingly? Do you guys run charters out of :VA or NC? Pirate's Cove is in NC, isn't it? Regards, Gardis - CT

    • @saltwaterfishinguniversity
      @saltwaterfishinguniversity  Рік тому

      Hey Gardis72, thanks for asking. We didn't expect to do the aftercoolers as quickly as we did, but simply chose safety over stretching the lifetime of the units...but as far as buying it, we did not deduct those expenses. This is partly due to the fact the boat wasn't officially for sale when we bought it, thus giving the seller more leverage.

    I bet it cost more than $3500 to paint the bottom of the boat with haul out. Bottom paint 40' boat out west would be $6000 min for prepping and 2 coats.

  • @cantbuyrespect

    The first expense...the floor fix cost more than I have into my bass tracker pt175 that I restored. I dont have the money but even if I did I dont think I have the heart to buy one. The way they said $2500 wasn't that bad would still make me cringe if I was a millionaire. Guess I am just too frugal lol.

    How many years do you expect to run before breaking even and or profiting, assuming you're financing the boat? Will you be earning more than your outlays within 3 years?

    • @saltwaterfishinguniversity
      @saltwaterfishinguniversity  Рік тому

      Honestly, we expect to take a huge loss in 2022, hopefully break even in 2023, then turn our first profit in 2024...the success of the channel, frankly speaking, will dictate much of this.

    I wish everything you said was bs, but it is totally TRUE. Bought my boat a two years ago and everything is spot on. The engines, the deck/fiberglass, toilet, navionics, life vests/raft, boat slip, annual haul out-- all true. You didn't even get into insurance, or holy cow, rods and reels/lures and what not tackle.
    All said, when you charter a boat, all this is included, not to mention the skill of the captain who is putting you on fish. Take care of these guys and their mates and they will take care of you, whatever the price, you are getting a great deal.
    But if you don't like to charter, by all means--buy your own boat!

    Thoes Yanmar 6CX Intercoolers are a terrible design. The steel end caps just rot. That’s why they put 500 zincs on this motor. Injection pump is another poor design.
