    I was 12 years old when I saw this live. I just can't believe this is the most popular live version. Weird Al had a huge impact on my life. He made me realize how important a twisted and thoughtful sense of humor really is. The closest we can ever get to God is when we are laughing our asses off. I don't think I can ever be truly serious after listening to every song he's ever made. (except for this serious comment)

    Not only is the song funny and clever, but watch WA...the song goes on for, like six minutes and part of the time he sings it with his eyes closed, obviously with no teleprompter or any other help. And how does he not trip over all those tongue-twisters? We are in the presence of a genius.

  • @nbuehster

    A few things:
    1. "Finally at 7: 37 early Wednesday evening..." Who does he think he is, me?? (My mom calls me "Big Ben", because, I can tell what year, date, day, and time something happened.
    2. "I was just so overwhelmed by its sheer immensity, I had to pop myself a beer" Sounds like he wasn't too thrilled by it.
    3. "This here's what America's all about" I totally agree.
    4. We already know about his obsession with 27, and I also questioned about him being obsessed with 43.
    From "Tacky"
    43 bumper stickers
    From Virus Alert"
    Turn off your computer and make sure it powers down
    Drop it in a forty-three-foot hole in the ground
    But I'm wondering if it has to do with the number 7. (4+3=7)
    And in this song, he mentions the number 27, but he also mentions 7:37.

    My in-laws now live 45 minutes from the ball. I took my family to see it a few weeks ago while we were visiting. Hilarious. Signed the guest book "Al sent me." There is a Twine Ball Inn, but it appeared to just be a little restaurant and I'm not even sure it was open. There was no security to kick me out when I broke down and cried. Thankfully.

    • @Codraroll
      @Codraroll 5 років тому

      If you listen closely to the lyrics, you can surmise that Al wasn't thrown out because he broke down. He arrived at the Twine ball at "Seven thirty-seven early Wednesday evening" (3:50), and the place was only open from 10 to 8 on weekdays (4:29). The guards threw him out because the place was closing for the evening.

    • @djublonskopf
      @djublonskopf 3 роки тому +2

      This song was only released on the UHF soundtrack (which didn't even go gold) but was one of the "...and other stuff" on the soundtrack, as it didn't actually appear in the movie. So, as the final track on one of his least popular CDs, it's a little less exposed than most of his other music. Which is too bad, as it's perhaps the greatest song ever written.

I've wanted to see the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota ever since i heard AL sing about it! he's convinced me it's worth the trip! and who wouldn't be convinced by his twine ball musical effigy! and that food is important in his music relates to my GI Joe/ food oriented mind. totally a parady of a musical style. also, just a wonderful song!
    think of it... if you replaced the lyrics with "real" lyrics, you would have the perfect anti-war song, or a pro-war song, or about love, or about a break up, or anything "heavy."
