Irritable bowel syndrome is one of the most common GI disorder. #Symptoms, #treatment and criteria for #diagnosis are well defined. #Pain #abdomen, #constipation and #diarrhoea are common symptoms of INS
Causes of IBS
• Mucosal inflammation of intestine
• Altered movement of intestine
• Change in colonic bacteria
• Production of gas and fatty acid in colon
• FODMAP fermentation by bacteria in colon
• Intolerance to Gluten, Fructose
• Bile acid reaching colon
• Visceral hypersensitivity
• Small intestine bacterial overgrowth
IBS symptoms
• Pain abdomen
• Diarrhoea or Constipation
• Bloating, abdomen distension
• Urgency to pass stool
• Feeling of incomplete evacuation
• Straining during passage of stool
• Mucus in stool
• Pain relieved or increased by bowel movement
• Abdomen pain during defecation
• Anxiety or depression
Red flag signs indicate diagnosis other than IBS
• Weight loss
• Feet swelling or pedal edema
• Anemia
• Blood in stool
• Diarrhoea in night
• Fever
• Family history of cancer
• Symptoms starting after age of 50

IBS and IBD are different disorders. IBD means ulcerative colitis or Crohns's disease. These diseases are associated with ulcers in small and large intestine. Endoscopic examination in IBS patients will be normal.
How we get to know about either i have ibs or ibd

Dear doctor I am 55 years of I have IBS diarrhea with mucus I went doctors and specialist in Sialkot and did stool test mucus positive nothing anything and CBC which is normal and ESR which is normal I have many medicine flygel amodium ceprofloxin esota.Mixal .foxim 550mg masacol 400mg Rapicort Hidrasec cap 100mg still have gastric pain and 4 times loose motions mucus I never gave hard stool from last 2 months and not sinking stool in toilet but floating stool which made me much weak always loose stool mucus type I am much in trouble and hopeless from my life
