I’ve been making goulash for about 70 years bc that was the first dish I learned to prepare at the age of 18 when I got married. I’m 88 now and still make it in smaller portions just for myself. I still like it very much.
I made this yesterday, it was a gloomy cloudy day here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and this was the perfect "comfort food". It was the first time I made it and I just love it. I gave some to my neighbor and she also liked it. Thankyou
Ah... Looks just like when I was a kid in the 60's.... Mom made it often as it fed 5 kids and we all loved it! It has been too many years since I've had it. Thank you! ❤️
Hi Colleen, I just watched this on my TV with UA-cam and loved the recipe. We are seniors too, a bit older then you 75 and 76 and I have always loved to cook. Now somedays it's more like work because of all the things that happen to you once you don't have that young body and energy. This is a good dinner and I'm excited to make it. Not hard on the budget either. Thanks for sharing. Stay well and safe.
Do great to hear from you and I apprdci6you watching. It is a budget friendly easy recipe that doesn't take a lot of time so I hope you enjoy it. Best wishes, Colleen
Yes! I make enough for leftovers for 1. My daughter doesn't care for it .I think it tastes better next day! I'm going to try freezing some this time. Great fi days I don't feel like cooking. 🎉
Thank you, thank you, thank you. This was one of my grandmother's favorite dishes. She will be gone 20 years in a few months. I will make this for me and my family in her memory. I really enjoy your channel. Best wishes to you and your family
Hungary, a beautiful place, especially Budapest. People very friendly and open to visitors. My spouse and I enjoyed our short visit before our river cruise on the Danube. ❤
Hi Colleen I love Goulash , I was raised on it , we were poor farmers and hamburger meat back then was 3 lbs for .99 €, so we had a lot of hamburger meat meals !! I still make it and love it with cornbread that’s buttered and has honey on it!! I hope your doing well !! God bless ❤️🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈
Thanks I like all your Videos. Thank you for producing them I will give your version of this to try next week. It looks very good your husband is lucky to have you at home doing this.
Hello Colleen. I sure enjoyed your video on UA-cam today, in your lovely kitchen and your nice way of explaining things. I’m going to make this goulash tonight. Like your husband, mine loves this dish too. It is definitely comfort food that my mother often made for my brother and sisters on a cold Minnesota day and one that I still make when Florida temps drop into the 60’s. Brrrr. Time for some goulash! Thank you for your version of goulash and happy holidays!

In California-some call it Chili Mac (besides goulash) I guess a kind of newer name for a version of it. The chili Mac probably has fewer ingredients in it.
Mom made this dish on Long Island back in the 50s. She called it American Chop Suey. She never used elbows only spaghetti broken up. Dad made the real thing. His Hungarian Goulash was so delicious and served over buttered egg noodles.
I love goulash! We are making it tomorrow for dinner. So delicious! Growing up we never put bell pepper in our goulash. I will need to try that. 😋 Thank you for sharing your recipe. ❤️😘🙏🏼
All of your food recipes make me hungry, because they look good and are referred from a friend, and I saw her cook it, so it’s not that difficult. Thank you Colleen.
Next time I make this dish I will try the worstershire sauce. I usually add cubed sharp cheddar cheese the last 5 minutes of cooking and sprinkle parsley on top before serving. Thank you for sharing. 😊
Goulash is a dish my mom and my granny made. It was definitely a staple dish that everyone enjoyed. We always make it with Worcestershire but I’m trying the soy sauce soon.
I think your meat sauce in the American Goulash would be very versatile. Some of my Grandchildren love spaghetti and others rice or couscous. I would make up a big batch of meat sauce and add the appropriate carbohydrate at serving time. For real comfort food some of my family love mashed potato’s which would also go well. I’m sure Thespis sauce freezes like a dream in appropriate size containers. Thank you for the recipe.
I loved this I used frozen pre cooked from my freezer, all the other I had canned and didn't have to go and purchase anything. Thank you for this recipe! 🥰
@@dianahegseth6279 I'm doing the same. I just started canning last year. Whenever I see a sale on meat, I grab as much as I can & can it. I have a friend that goes with me and when there's a limit, she purchases an equal amount and I pay her for it & cook her dinner in return. She doesn't cook anymore & I hate cooking for one, so this is a win-win.
15:02 Love your videos Colleen! I grew up on the Hungarian style of goulash with potatoes instead of pasta but I much prefer American goulash. Question for you…the written recipe doesn’t mention the soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce so I just wanted to double check the amount with you. If you would be so kind… P.S. if you put a damp paper towel or washcloth under your plastic cutting board it won’t slide around on your counter. And using the blunt edge of your knife to scrape things from the cutting board into the pot will save the sharpness of the blade edge. 😊
@@oursilvermoments6028 you're welcome! I appreciate your videos. They're simple, inexpensive & down to earth. I don't have to buy a ton of ingredients. I love hearing you share about your life. From one Canadian (Southern Ontario) to another, thank you!

Hi Colleen. I made this today, and it's very good. But when I watched your video I see that you added soya sauce, which is not listed in the ingredients list. So I am wondering what difference the soya sauce makes? Should I add it after the fact? I probably won't, this time, but may try it next time (and there will be a next time!). I live alone since my husband went to heaven, so a big pot of goulash isn't something I can eat all on my own right away. So I will freeze one-serving bags tomorrow, and will enjoy it over the next while. Thank you, dear friend, for sharing this recipe with us. I realize I am late to the party so you may not see this, but I hope you do so you can know that we, our here, are still watching your videos and enjoying your recipes. God bless.

I’m going to try this. I made some last week from a different recipe, but when I tasted it, it was too tart with the tomato paste. I added a little sugar to cut the acid. Unfortunately, that little bit didn’t make a difference so I added a little more. That made it too sweet. Sigh.
