I'm 72 and grew up eating ghoulish at home. Mom or sometimes dad would whipped a batch of it and we would have that for dinner for 3 or days. Easy peezy and I still love it today. Always tasted better as a left over :-):-)
@@TheCooknShareYup like stew, the flavors would blend. My Dad loved in his 80s watching me make a Sunday dinner and putting w other things in the oven "since it was hot". I grew up in Texas and my mom made "American Goulash" often. I loved it. I still make very it similar to what you do. I add corn, green chilis, and Rotel tomatoes. Instead of broth I use V8 juice, really adds some good flavor. Next time I will add some tomato paste and tomato soup like you did as that sounds really good. Thanks for the new ideas.

My Dad used to make this when I was a kid and I made it for my family. A great satisfying meal that doesn't break the bank and you usually have lots of leftovers which are of course even tastier the next day.
I am from Maine and we made that but we called it American Chop Suey. I make it still and I make it with Stewed tomatoes Diced tomatoes tomato juice and V-8 Juice Onions Celery Red Peppers Green peppers Mushrooms Garlic and Italian seasoning and a little chili. I also make Home made bread and home made Garlic bread sometimes I would make northern corn bread and southern cornbread . If I know there will be kids eating I also make Honey cornbread. When I make it I make about 6 to 8 Gallons of it. I then freeze it and it taste just like I made it that day. I do pretty much the same with all the foods I cook. Mac and Cheese I cut them in to large portions to feed a person wrap them each and freeze them and it taste just like I made it that day. I use 7 different cheeses in my home made Mac and Cheese. I make enough to feed 50 people and I live alone. The reason I cook a lot is to save on the cost of cooking and time. For example. lets say it takes 45 minutes to cook a chicken breast at 350 F so almost an hour. now if you cook 12 of them for that same hour then freeze the left over chicken that is less time using the stove and less time cooking just pull it out of the freezer and heat it up.
Hell, I'm from upstate NY, and I grew up eating this same goulash!! I used Parmeson cheese instead. I still make it to this day for hubby and me. Looks dam good! Making me hungry.

interesting recipe, it really reminds me of chili I used to have as a kid, my mom would make, only difference she would add diced raw onions that soaked in water for about 20 minutes and drained then added to the almost same recipe. Good job bringing back great memories, that's what I love so much about cooking and watching others creating their recipes, all the good memory times in the kitchens used to be.
Mom used to make this all the time especially in the winter. She used her own garden canned tomatoes. My hack on it is use Italian sausage, whole peeled San Marzano Tomatoes and chicken stock. At our house the cheese is added at the table.

It looks very great. The cheese makes a difference and the Worcestershire sauce. When I was younger and lived at home, mom would make that and I would call slop. I don’t call dad anymore Grady I love it. Good job thank you very much.
This looks so good! My mom made this all the time growing up, and she used tomato soup, too. She would also add a bit of ketchup for a bit of tanginess, and she'd add pieces of real fried bacon. I'm a lifelong Minnesotan, so up here we simply just called this hamburger hotdish. 😅But I made it for my kids, who are both adults now, and I hope they'll make this for theirs in the future. Thanks for sharing your southern version!
Being Hispanic and poor, my grandma only had elbow noodles, hamburger, and tomato paste. She would brown the noodles which added flavor to them then she would fry the hamburger and add water and tomato paste and finish the goulash. Delicious and filling.
My mom used to make goulash and hers was tomatoes, macaroni and burger. Very bland and never cared for it. When I saw yours, I had to try it. Now I know what the fuss is about! Delicious!!! The only way it could be better is if someone else made it for me. 😂Thank you.

I am stationed in NY. Is 2 degrees outside. Love this though. I have had goulash in Hungary, Germany and Romania, as well as growing up with this US version. I love them all. Pumpernickel and sourdough go best!
My mother was a Hillbilly and never used Italian seasoning, Garlic, or Beef Broth in her Goulash. Onions, elbow Macaroni ,Tomatoes, Tomato juice, Bell Pepper, Salt, Black Pepper and a tea spoon of Chili powder. Fabulous every time. Served with mashed Potatoes and various slices of Breads. White, Rye, Pumpernickel, Sourdough, or just delightful Yeast Rolls! Yum.

Made this for lunch today and it was very good although a tad too sweet for my taste so i threw in a little chili powder to knock down the sweet from the mater soup. Thank you for the recipe and since you like the Campbell's mater soup, I've got one of their classic easy recipe mom used to make when we were kiddos, for chili cheese burgers (otherwise known as sloppy joes and tastes much better than manwich). 1 lb ground beef, browned and drained. 1 regular size can (not the oversize one) Campbell's mater soup Chili powder to taste (2 or so Tablespoons) 2 slices (give or take) American cheese Mix all ingredients, heat and serve on hamburger buns. Serve with fritos.
@@TheCooknShare it's actually an old Campbell's recipe they had on their can from I don't know when...guessing 70's give or take. Can't say if any other cheese would make it taste different but I avoid American cheese slices as much as possible even tho I'm American 😂🤪. Maybe a mild cheddar.
Tried this, minus the black pepper and garlic… it’s fantastic!! Everyone in the family loved it. This is a rarity. Will definitely be making a huge batch of this and canning it. 😊

Thank you for sharing this recipe! I have been trying to make goulash like my mom always did but I just haven't been able to perfect it at all! Looking forward to trying yours!!!!
Here in California and Mom would make a terrific goulash, she would put canned spinach in it, and I hated spinach, but it was still great. How about trading tomato paste for the tomato soup? When you said it tasted a little sweet, that didn’t sound so good. I bet your homegrown canned tomatoes are wonderful though

It looks very great. The cheese makes a difference and the Worcestershire sauce. When I was younger and lived at home, mom would make that and I would call slop. I don’t call dad anymore Grady I love it. Good job thank you very much.
Yes, I've heard that. It is good though. Hope you give it a try and you're so welcome.
It’s great with cornbread ,buttered or not !!!❤️ goulash is so very good !🥰
So true. Hope you enjoy.
Thanks!
Thanks so much. It helps.
I just made this for the first time. Yummmmmmyyy! Thanks so much.
So glad you enjoyed. Thanks for the feedback.
Oh really. Nothing better than food bringing back the memories. Love the name. Hope you try this and enjoy.
Being Hispanic and poor, my grandma only had elbow noodles, hamburger, and tomato paste. She would brown the noodles which added flavor to them then she would fry the hamburger and add water and tomato paste and finish the goulash. Delicious and filling.
Never thought about browning the pasta..Good idea!
That's an interesting idea. Have to try that.
The meal looks delicious. And I have made it many times in different ways for family and friends. Thank you very much for sharing your recipes.
You're so welcome. So glad you are enjoying.
Looks so good and I love the music!
Thanks so much. Great feedback.
Midwest IL hamberger goulash. Always garlic s/p onion tomatoe soup w sugar ( brown) elbow macaroni. Wow! Green pepper
Looks so good! Please send me some..lol! Its beautiful in color!
Will do. LOL. Hope you try it.
Great recipe. I love how depending on where people are from the basic idea is the same but different seasoning or ingredients are used.
Yes, that is so true. Seasoning is really the key.
Looks great trying this one as well 😊. It’s 33 in Vancouver Canada to hot 😞. Looking forward for fall weather 🇨🇦🍁🍁
Great. Wow. That hot on the West Coast. Yes, fall is coming.
I so wish my brothers would eat tomatoes. This looks amazing.
Yummm! With Rice as well!
For sure. So good.
Hello Darlin .. hack if you flip the burger as you brown it will brown faster . Looks Delicious
This kind of recipe has always been what I knew at goulash thanks for sharing
My mom used to make goulash and hers was tomatoes, macaroni and burger. Very bland and never cared for it. When I saw yours, I had to try it. Now I know what the fuss is about! Delicious!!! The only way it could be better is if someone else made it for me. 😂Thank you.
It is good and so simple. So glad you tried it.
Every time I see your channel, I click on in an instant becuse I KNOW, I WILL L❤VE YOUR RECIPIE!!!!! I ALWAYS DO!!!! And you're slso SO enjoyable!!!! Thank you always for sharing ❤
P.S. You asked....Im in Puerto Rico and the HEAT ia about to kill me, my brother! 😨
Thanks so much. That is so kind of you. Means a lot. I guess it would be hot down there. Hope you try and enjoy the recipe.
As always looks great. Thanks Dave
Thanks so much. It was so good.
I am stationed in NY. Is 2 degrees outside. Love this though. I have had goulash in Hungary, Germany and Romania, as well as growing up with this US version. I love them all. Pumpernickel and sourdough go best!
I know. They are all so great. Hope you try this one and enjoy. Let me know.
Yum.
Make your own video then, and don’t rain on others parade. He is showing us how he does it, not your mom.
I was thinking I would probably use chili or a Cajun seasoning. 🌶
@evalehde3869 wow,why be such a nasty person! She just added how her mother did it mine did the same!!!
@@evalehde3869 Which charm school did you attend if we may ask???
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Good recipe for comfort foods, I switched the ground beef for vegan lifestyle alternatives and it worked great. Thanks 🙏
Sounds great. Yes, I love comfort food. You're so welcome.
Fresh from garden tomatoes 🍅 yummy
We used to make thia at summer camp. Best food ever.❤ I like your casual instructions, so comfortable.
It is really. Hope you give it a try.
Looks yummy Dave! 😋
With my Mom’s goulash, we’d have it over mashed potatoes! 😋
It’s Sunday September 8th and it’s 13 Celsius feeling like 12 at 9:30 at night!
Have a good week ahead! ❤️
It was super good. Yes, over mashed for sure, Cheryl. Cool here too. Hope all is well there.
I love it on mashed potatoes no cheese.
I love goulash. I bet I've tried 10 different recipes. This is by far my favorite. Love the addition of the tomato soup. Instead of noodles, I added mini cheese tortellini. It was so yummy.
Sounds great! Thanks for the comment. Keep cooking
I love goulash. Gotta serve it with toasted bread...
Me too. Yes, toasted bread.
I always eat mine with oven toasted garlic bread. So good.
W/a sprinkling of garlic powder before toasting it.
That is NOT Goulash !! Authentic Goulash has NO PASTA in it ! It's a type of Beef & Vegetable Stew that has NO Pasta in it ! What you are making is BEEFY MAC or aka Beef-a-Roni !!!
@@BearStar1 stop been a troll
Made this for lunch today and it was very good although a tad too sweet for my taste so i threw in a little chili powder to knock down the sweet from the mater soup. Thank you for the recipe and since you like the Campbell's mater soup, I've got one of their classic easy recipe mom used to make when we were kiddos, for chili cheese burgers (otherwise known as sloppy joes and tastes much better than manwich).
1 lb ground beef, browned and drained.
1 regular size can (not the oversize one) Campbell's mater soup
Chili powder to taste (2 or so Tablespoons)
2 slices (give or take) American cheese
Mix all ingredients, heat and serve on hamburger buns. Serve with fritos.
Could have been. Good idea to cut back the sweetness. Love sloppy joes too. I'll try your recipe.
@@repentandturnfromsin Oh, I see. They did make some good ones.
I put vegetable juice in with my goulosh. That looks good Dave abit different than mine
Now that sounds interesting. I’ll have to try it.
Tried this, minus the black pepper and garlic… it’s fantastic!!
Everyone in the family loved it. This is a rarity. Will definitely be making a huge batch of this and canning it. 😊
Great. Love to hear that. Keep cooking and enjoying.
The hillbilly’s in my neighborhood are eating good tonight! 👍
For sure. Mine too.
I just love it!! You had me at Campbell tomato soup ❤❤❤
It is so good. Hope you enjoy.
I'm from Massachusetts and we called this American Chop Suey. It was served a lot at schools for lunch.
Yes, I've heard that. Hope you enjoy.
Use to make this for my kids a lot, we also called it American Chop Suey! (A Mainah!) I used Parmesan instead of cheddar.
Ayuh. That's what we call it in Maine, too.😊
Rhode Island native here. I still make 'American Chop Suey' several times a year.
I still make American Chop Souy, we are having it for dinner tonight with garlic bread. Love this stuff. I freeze the sauce, defrost, cook freshly cooked pasta and have a great dinner after a busy day.
My Mom made this, with peas and no cheese. So good but everything she made was good😊❤ Thsnks for taking be back to home sweet home🤙🤙
That sounds good too. Hope you try it and enjoy.
My late mother made this for us. She called it American Chop Suey. She put peas ,carrots, corn in it. To each his own.
Great name. Hope you try this one and enjoy.
I’m from Massachusetts and my mother called it American Chop Suey to
Peas!!! ❤
Sounds great! Get in those vegis
10:54pm my mother made AMERICAN CHOP SUEY . CHOPMEAT, TOMATO SOUP N CAN STEWED TOMATOES, BIG CHUNKS OF ONION AND CELERY OVER SPAGHETTI.
That sounds good too. It was good. Yes, love the home tomatoes. Hope you try this one.
Another good one for the freeze dryer to make backpacking meals.
Yes indeed! Hope you try it.
Made it love it thankyou!!!
Fantastic! You are so welcome.
My mom would make this for us growing up, appreciate you putting this out here for us.
Yes, it does bring back memories. Hope you try it.
I LOVE campbell's tomato soup in my american goulash...yum! Don't forget the slice of white bread and butter!
I do as well. Such a welomed addition. Hope you try this and enjoy.
Our mom used to make it when we were growing up. True comfort food…
That is NOT Goulash !! Authentic Goulash has NO PASTA in it ! It's a type of Beef & Vegetable Stew that has NO Pasta in it ! What you are making is BEEFY MAC or aka Beef-a-Roni !!!
@@BearStar1 oh my Karen ......let it be
Or leftover biscuits!!
Good video! Grew up in Montana. Was in the Boy Scouts. At Scout Jamborees and Camporees, troops would invite another troop for dinner. Goulash was the common meal served for these invites. Had a lot of different versions of Goulash...all were good. Goulash is good these days as a comfort meal on a cold day. Always enjoy trying a new version. Will give yours a try. Thanks for the video!
Yes, that would kind of fit. This was great. Hope you try it and enjoy.
This is very close to what like to make and i call it chili mac. I just change out the bell peppers for some mex style mildly hot peppers. And change out some chili seasonings. I love it. I’m hailing from north western NC.
Yes, sounds great. Hope you enjoy. Love NC. I was down there a couple of years ago.
Hello from Tucson AZ. 35-42 in the morning 60-70 in the afternoon and 35-40 in the night. I am just finishing up making this and it does smell fantastic. Thank you for the soy sauce suggestion I used that. Also I did both think Inhad any cheese (rookie cook mistake start cooking without making sure you have everything...) any way Inhad some sliced sharp chedder in the sandwich drawer so in it goes. This is my first you tube recipie in my new cast iron pan so also thank you about starting with some olive oil. Just tasted and yummy! Thanks again!!!
Hey there. Great. You are so welcome. So glad it turned out well and you enjoyed. Keep on cooking.
Dave good recipe & yes on us & the girls & another one we call a garbage plate & anything you have will work in this recipe , great way to use up leftovers , like the hillbilly name cause we eat about anything, lol , keep your stick on the ice.we are having an early cool fall as it has been in the low 40's at night into late morning, but I will take that over humidity
Hey Steve. Love the titiles. Keep coming up with them. I’m to the point of eating anything too. Hope all is well down there. It is getting cooler now. How is the new house. See you at the lodge.
@TheCooknShare house is nice , but only have a little over half our stuff out here so far , a lot of work. See you at the lodge pal
If I were there, I'd give you a hand. I know it takes time though.
@TheCooknShare thank you , but you are busy enough , lol, I hate moving , last time for me & I told my wife , but we are closer to the grandchildren , 10 minutes away to the girls & others
This looks great. I love all kinds of food and sometimes you just need comfort. Thank you.
Now that is so true. Hope you try it and enjoy.
I made goulash yesterday. My recipe is close to yours. Great taste. 0:15
Wonderful!
I've been making this since I was old enough to cook! Our family always called it Bum, and we still do...yummy!
Love the name. It's so good.
I'm glad he made the American Goulash there is an Hungarian Goulash which is more of a soup.
Yes, this one is so good.
Made this and added my spin to it, excellent....weather here in south eastern New Brunswick Canada today is rain and 70 degrees...weird for Dec....
Great. So glad you enjoyed. Yes, very weird for December. It was warm there too though.
Yummy!!

In New England, we call that American Chopped Suey. An absolute favorite of mine.
Oh really. That sounds good.
I make this a lot, it’s one dish my picky kids will eat, minus the peppers. So good
That's great. Hope you enjoy. Let me know.
Canned soup sodium top high. 😢 perhaps a 8 oz can tomato sauce. 😊
