    Thank you Niall, I just don't know where the time has gone! I so needed a reminder. September in Ceredigion has been so amazing. Happy growing. BTW you probably already know, but if not then you can leave a couple of garlic cloves in the soil and keep harvesting from it or the bulblets it gets on the top. A true perennial. Keep safe

      Wonderful, you're welcome! I've heard about doing that with garlic, but I've got to confess that I've never actually tried it... cue what I'll be trying this time! Thanks so much for the tip because I'm sure everyone here is going to find that super handy as well! ❤️

    Thank you for this - it's great to have advice for growing in Ireland. I started my broadbeans in Autumn last year and had no trouble with blackfly this year, and a great crop. This year's starter crop are leaping out of the pots already. I have had very little success with carrots this year so I am going to try growing a crop in a large crate in the greenhouse this winter. Seedlings are already appearing. Fingers crossed.

    Hi Niall, I have just come across your channel and I am quite enjoying it. I have recently come to Ireland and am trying a vegetable garden but struggling with the climate, understanding what to sow, when and how? I have gardened for many years, mostly in Australia but more recently and very successfully in South island of New Zealand. Could I ask do you direct sow or start in tunnel etc? I don't have tunnel or cold frame.
    Thanks Kelly

    hmm hadn’t thought of growing peas still this month! waiting for the onions to arrive in post to grow soon and spring onions. planted carrot seeds about 2-3 weeks ago in poly tunnel and they are just starting to shoot which is good! my corn wasn’t good this year at all as had to protect them from little mice plus had so much black fly on them too! but will grow again next year but perhaps a different location. another great video, thank you!

    Thank you for another clear and informative video Niall. I'm waiting on my Guardsman spring onion seeds to arrive - hopefully soon be here! Also like you I am waiting for space to get my garlic and onion sets in..can't wait!! Niall, I was going to put my garlic in where my beans where. Is this ok or a no no? I was going to put onions in where chilli and peppers where. Is this a yay or a nay? I know you have to amend the compost but how? And how do you amend yours? There's not very much I know really is there??? Haha! Thank you in advance Niall x

    • @niallgardens
      @niallgardens  2 роки тому +1

      You're welcome Geraldine! That should be absolutely fine actually - in terms of crop rotation, they sit quite nicely apart so you shouldn't have any problems. The good news is that your beans will have already done some of the amendment for you by adding nitrogen from the little nodules on their roots. After that, I'd be thinking to just add a good layer of compost on top of the soil which the worms and weather will work down into the soil. Don't worry - if you're growing stuff, you definitely already know loads! ❤️

    • @niallgardens
      @niallgardens  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah you can sow them in cells and then plant them on, or you could sow them into a container, or even a seed-bed. They're quite robust little plants, but they'll thank you for giving them some protection from the worst of the elements.

    Hello from a fairly new subscriber!
    Is there a difference between autumn onions and spring varieties? I looked into buying some but it looks like you just harvest in June/July anyway.

    • @niallgardens
      @niallgardens  2 роки тому

      Hi! There isn't really a difference - as you say it's simply down to the timing of when you plant them. Autumn planting gives the onions a head-start come the spring so you should be able to harvest a month or two earlier than your spring-sown sets 👍
