I've seen this performance over 50 times and, as a child of divorced parents, I tear up every time.

Really? I see it as an average rock song, one of the lesser songs in the show. The only reason it has an impact, is the backstory of Tim's brother. Without that...

DoICountToo yes...it’s knowing the backstory that brings the poignancy to it. Without that...I think the song we just heard is the most emotive from Floor in the show.
This song was written by the young bloke on the couch about the way he felt when his parents divorced. Everyone knew the story behind it hence the tears. It rips my heart out every time I hear it.
The only singer that could sing old Macdonald and make me cry.
So emotional to see Floor honoring this young singer with a beautiful rendition of his own song. He wrote it about his parents divorce when he was younger. Beautiful and delicate with a touch of country. Great reaction Wolf Hunters. Peace.

That's funny because she's not a POP singer.. But she did show she could own the genre if she wanted to.. I think she can do it all, only thing I've not seen her do is rap, lol..
She got this award because, I qoute: "she has a connecting force beyond the subculture".

I call this The Ugly Cry Song because it always gets me. Always.
Every single song from the show is worth checking out. Having watched the full shows that Denise Hofs translated, I was really taken aback by how good all of them are, and how well they took a song that meant something to the one in the center that night, and made it their own while still evoking a strong reaction from the one they were singing to. The duets on the last show were amazing as well.
I normally hate artificial "saturday night variety" shows like this. Somehow Holland came up with the magical, honest exception where a bunch of great singers come together and have fun....and then they threw Floor into that mix.
@@paulmdevenney I think part of the likeability of the show is that it is not the normal average concept of a contest. They are just sitting around drinking together, shooting the shizz with each other. I LOVE that part. No backstabbing or behind-the-scenes politics, just awesome performances and pouring their hearts out at certain points. :)

Oh, the tears flow each time I hear this. Ruben put his broken soul into this song, and Floor, as Ruben went on to say after Floor finished singing, magically makes everything even better. Voting is going on in the Netherlands for "Golden Televizier Ring" awards. This season of Beste Zangers was nominated again for this season. Let's hope it wins!
If you watch the lead up to it you might even cry more as it was his song he wrote specifically about his parents breakup.

This program is about a bunch of dutch stars singing eachothers songs. Floor was totally unknown for the dutch audience since metal is not popular there. Now they know who she is as she dominated this show.

If you ever listen to the great Patsy Cline sing her laments about love, I swear Floor was the reincarnation of her with this song. I picture a smoky bar where people are crying into their drinks as Floor crushes their hearts and soul with this song!! Reuben (on the couch) wrote this as a very young man about his parents divorce, Floor as usual tore his soul up with her emotional roller coaster!!! How much do we miss this show and the wait for every Saturday night to experience another Floor emotional wrecking ball performance!! Great reaction and Floor I swear is like a drug, I know I am going to be wrecked with the song but I can't help myself I have to have that experience, that is what music and it's power is truly all about.
This is an awesome show. Each of these artists get an episode where the other artists sing one of their songs or a song that means something to them. So the young guy who cries wrote the sing originally in Dutch. Floor and her sister Irene who’s also a singer translated it to English for this show. You should watch the entire series with subtitles, the people in the center couch are who the singers are singing to, they all sing for that one person that show and rotate. I think this song was about living with a split mother and father.
Floor,a dramatic soprano,reaches into your soul and boom she owns you. Floor is just increible.
He (Ruben Annink) is so emotional because he wrote the song about his parents getting divorced. You really should use the videos with translations before and after the songs so you know what the significance of the song is for the artist on the couch that week. Another song from this show that is worth checking out is Vivo per lei by Henk Poort and Emma Heesters.

He does that one for Floor stepping out of his comfort zone,hes an opera singer and Floor is a big fan of him.
A lot of people consider this the best version of this Simon & Garfunkel song.
This song is such a sad one but very beautiful (hey, beauty in darkness is a thing), and at the end in the full video, Rubem who wrote it says something along the lines of "It's absurd how you make everything better", to which Floor replies "It's a beautiful song, you're a good storyteller", or something like that, it's been a while since I read the translation of what was said... He's deeply touched and she answers with humility, one more thing to love about Floor
It's a pity you didn't get to see the dialog that immediately followed. It was emblematic of what others think of Floor's performances, plus it showed how kind and gracious Floor is. As she alit from the stage, Ruben, wiping his eyes, said, "it's absurd how much you make everything better!". Her response was classic, "that's not possible dear, you wrote such a beautiful song. You're a wonderful storyteller".
