      cheers mate! yeah what a relief its working. and finally i have enough power to get my fat a$$ up so easy. that was always so annoying when i could not fly in low wind. i did a couple of test "walks" before this flight. wasnt even sure the harness is adjusted right. or i could maybe not get into the new seat. everything is DIY and i had to eyeball stuff because nobody here could help me set it up. i worried to make a 180 turn, twist all lines and crash into the bloody beach. 😂

    Very nice build! Thanks for the video!
    I love my OpenPPG X4 and my SP140 with the 140cm 3-blade E-prop. Once I cut my 11P24S 2170 battery down to 7P24S.... and added Bluetooth and Anderson connectors I started enjoying it more. The battery is lighter now, and I can get a solid 25 minutes of flight with a nice "reserve" charge for landing. My 6P24S battery will give me a solid 20 minutes with reserve. Don't you love it when you let off of the throttle, and all you hear is the wind....the best!!!

      its my favourite thing about it. sounds like a space ship when you come out of a turn and throttle down. its so amazing and silent. i feel much less stressed out and tired after a flight with this compared to my gasoline engine. which i btw sold yesterday after this first electric test flight.
      did you make the 21700 pack? i have a spot welder here and build 18650 packs for years but i feel the weight is so much higher compare to lipo puch cells. i am usinga tiny 10kg 22AH pack for these tests. that day i flew twice. each time 11-13 minutes only with 36% capacity left. but i need more tests to see when the battery actually start to go out of balance and cells drop down below 3.2V.
      what is the weight of your battery packs? i am working on a new lipo next week with DJI pouch cells. 24s30AH at around 15kg weight. i hope it will get me over the 30min flight time while keeping the weight managable.
      and yes i agree about plugs. first i used QS10s plugs and 6AWG wire because i wasnt sure about how much amps the motor pulls. now i see that i am barely scratching 220A peak so i reduced to 8AWG wire and QS8 plugs. reducing weight by 1kg just for that.
      i am using a higher KV version of the MD50 for more thrust.
      i have a 140cm 2 blade but also the 140cm 3 blade prop which i didnt even test yet. is the sound better for 3 blade? i like the low pitched noise from the 2 blade very much. i check your channel now and hope you have aloooot videos up with your SP140 mate haha!
      EDIT: ah its you! i checked and commented your videos before. yeah i remember now!

    Hi great to see mate. I fly gyroplanes and we need much more power and therefore batteries than you guys but you are giving me hope. I like you don't need to fly more than 30 minutes with some reserve. I'd like closer to 40 minutes but waiting for batteries to get more energy dense. But think that may realistically be 5-8 years away. Still they are getting cheaper much quicker so perhaps two batteries instead.
    Gyros are very high drag and very low wing loading so the minimum hp currently is the Nano gyro which is very light with wide long rotors running a 38 hp engine. I don't know the minimum power (I'm aware the engines have a maxium and continuous powers). Typically a 503 rotax is a great performer. Replacing extra motor weight + fuel for the lighter electric motors of same power you have a budget of 50kgs approx of batteries which by my back of the envelop will get a little of 20 minutes at full power. So not there yet but getting close.
    Having had 4 engine related emergencies, stuffed distributor, locked pressure compensating needle (that was scary bugger all power 20ft over 80ft trees running super rich until I could get back around safely), carbie icing (full engine out on that one), and a warped head (another engine out). I can't wait to have 1 MOVING PART! I'll take a shorter range for a little less hassle.
    Thanks for the work you are doing its advancing electrification for all of us you are a pioneer. Hopefully in a few years you guys will have done all the hard yards and I will be able to get a more energy dense plug and play solution.
    cheers

      there is hope indeed. bigger 35kw motors are available with a weight around 8kg only. outperforming your 38hp engine by far. use the rest of that 50kg limit to put in some high quality batteries and you are there already. i think 30-35kg battery left and right side will do for better center of gravity. i had several engine failures too since i got my new moster185 and i hated that bloody thing with all my heart. no faith in it. finally i have trust in my unit again and fly without any trouble. love it and never go back to gasoline because shorter flight time is totally fine for me because i can land. swap battery in half min and go back up!

    Holy hell! Love it! I cannot wait to ditch my gas-burning paramotor. The Polini Thor 202 is great, but once I can get 3+ hours of flight time on a single charge, I am dumping gas for electric. There are battery packs at 500Wh/kg that exist, just not at an affordable price for paramotoring yet. I posted this 2 months ago predicting that electric will beat out EFI by August 15, 2026 for new models sold. I truly still believe this, and I think batteries will reach enough density and price to make electric paramotors cost-competitive with current base gas paramotors (not EFI, which doubles the engine price).
    Your rig looks awesome!!! Have you posted your build specs? I'm definitely thinking about how to build my own, or get an OpenPPG rig and start building out the battery. I'm not sure 96V is the right voltage, nor do I know that it is the wrong voltage either. 400+V might not be sane, who knows though.
    How do I learn more about your build?

      cheers mate! electric isnt for everybody right now thats for sure but its perfect for a fatty like me who needs a unit 8-10kg lighter than gasoline but almost double the thrust. thats whats happening here. never before i was able to launch like this in 2 or 3 steps. and the 30 min flight time i have there is plenty for me before i wanna go back and rest a while. right now over and hour flight times are possible and i am working on a second unit which might be able to fly 2 hours or maybe even more. we will see and test soon.
      400V will be the next step even we need to test what happens if you fall into water and have high voltage very close to your body. i dont wanna risk to experience the feeling of jumping in a pool filled with tasers! 🤣 because thats what it might feel like.
      i am already using newest semi solid battery tech but there are limits for higher energy density like current limits. the higher the capacity gets in cells the less amperes you can usually draw from them without having massive battery voltage sag. i am working with lithium batteries over 10 years. right now there is nothing magical going on except some hype news without proof.
      but lets hope we are getting there. the newest pack i am building right now is very small and similar shape and weight. but having over double the capacity from my smallest lipo. next week it will be done and we find out what happens when a normal sized person flies that.
      EFI is nice but not the future in my eyes. i am so sick of gasoline PPGs. the smell each time in my car gave me insane headache for days and the overall performance wasnt what i need. did you see my moster185 starter randomly explodes mid air causing emergency landing?`for me as inexperienced pilot this gave me anxiety for weeks and i couldnt trust my engine anymore.
      i start sell these eventually i think when everything is working. right now i am shocked how perfect this unit is doing. not a single problem so far. nothing! no overheating issues even on hard climbs with me as 135kg pilot with take off weight around 170kg+.
      thats tandem flying level weight here in china. if the second smaller prototype is done i need people all over the planet to test it out. maybe you are interested later. happy to see others excited for this!

    • @cloudpandarism2627
      @cloudpandarism2627  Рік тому +4

      i am working on a battery which will increase weight from now (26.8kg) to around 28 or 29kg total and flight times around 1 hour will be no problem. my 172ccm XRT engine was over 35kg with 3/4 tank of gas. and thrust was much lower than electric. i think around 65kg on a 130 propeller.
      yeah my favourite part to fly this thing is to come out of a turn, throttle to zero and enjoy the silence. for me as fatty pilot this thing is pure redemtion. gasoline engines stressed me out so much. the noise, heat on my back, vibrations, smell inside car on way home getting headaches...electric isnt for everybody. but it suits me perfectly because i often fly around 20-30min and land anyway for a short break where i can charge the battery full from my car until next flight. cheers for checking it out! you are truly welcome. love your videos! 👋

      thanks brother, you are right. if i go full throttle the prop will make similar loud noise as gasoline but without the engine sound. that being said the power is almost double so i dont mind it when i launch some seconds. i am planning to buy a microphone so i can talk while flying. and adjust the level manually to what i actually hear. leveled flight is much more quiet than gasoline. i would say more than half. and less than level flight throttle is whisper silent. it only sounds loud because the mic in my cam is not set to fixed level and goes up and down. i love this thing so much. before i was always tired from being stressed out flying gasoline engines. vibration and specially the heat from exhaust on your back bothered me alot even i heard thats not very common. anyway. thats all gone now.

    Very nice! The frame looks very clean and precise! Did you construct the frame from scratch? I have not seen many harnesses without some kind of spreader bar (J bar, gooseneck bar, etc) - does the motor push you against the front straps of the harness?

    • @cloudpandarism2627
      @cloudpandarism2627  Рік тому +2

      cheers mark 😊
      yeah i made the frame. because i needed to fit a 145cm prop and slightly wider for different batteries inside. the seat is custom made by a company according to my size but they only make this for high hang points. thats why the J bars a bit hard to see and look weird. they are attached to the frame with metal clips. i 3D printed an adapter which comes with the frame later to attach a selfie stick without having vibrations. towards the end you can see the 360 cam view and there is no jello in the footage. i like that.
      also no torque twist on the entire machine and besides the strange look its actually very comfortable to fly. mhhh no...nothing is pushing me against harness or so. oh now i see what you mean at 5:20min. the J bars are invisible because they are behind the wide straps from harness. optical illusion. there are bars to push the actual harness away from me same as every paramotor.
      also i raise my legs after launch and slide right into the seat. no need to push myself in of something (i hated that before) if i stand its not very nice. but which paramotor is? i adjusted my harness probably a bit wrong because i dont have anybody here to help me with that. but first test flight worked out perfect. i can still weight shift and fly left or right with hands off even its not same as a low hang point harness i guess. but as beginner thats fine for me. i can go full throttle or zero. this thing flies straight. pretty happy about that.
      frame is all titanium with carbon fiber struts and weight total from the frame only is below 3kg. the netting is also custom and much stronger to what i had before. but i wanna change that later again to kevlar lines. flight time i am still not sure but since this is a tiny test battery only it can be improved later. now the entire thing is just 26-27kg. still have the heavy wooden seatboard in and other carbonfiber parts are missing. i think i can get the weight down to 25kg easy. that leaves me around 4 to 5kg for an extra large battery. i also order a new OZONE wing. that alone should increase flight time alot from my old inefficient APCO EN-A bedsheet. 😋

      cheers mate,
      yeah the sea breeze is smooth and nice to fly. but i cant go there as often as i like because i need drive like 6 hours total. i am living in china. had enough of germany and moved here.
      the city i am living in have no open spaces what so ever. nothing. not even 10 meter of open grass field. its all houses or all fields with metal poles.
      there is another area near a river. looks nice from above but its a big grass field full of ankle breaking holes and fire ants. i was flying there couple of times but if i have motor out i can choose to break my legs or drown. 🤣 i feel like your desert would treat me better. selling all the gasoline crap and fly electric now was a big game changer for me. so little weight. so much thrust. i was running marathons every time with my moster185 or 172 XRT.
      EPPG feels like a space elevator compared to that. i love it! using my hybrid car to fast charge the batteries i can fly all day.
      i hope the spyder3 will finally give me some more airtime even in low wind. right now i cant fly in zero wind. i tried so many times and gave up. there are situations where i had a tiny bit of wind, got up and then i was kinda stuck up there unable to land because i was cruising with 50-60km/h speeds around. (trimmers all the way pulled in) full flare does almost nothing on my APCO towel and when my hands reach my knees from flaring for my life i am still 20km/h fast. impossible to run that out on a field full of holes and stones. had people tell me you have to "swoop land in" tried that as well. bit of power before landing, hands up power off and use that extra speed. still coming down in 45° angle doing the tumble weed dance when i hit the ground. tried flaring early. or late. or too late. nothing seem to work. any advice?😇

    • @madsloper
      @madsloper Рік тому +1

      @@cloudpandarism2627 That's rough, the LZ with the holes and rocks. What you could try is going motor off/disabled stow the controller and take a wrap on your brake lines to give you more flare authority. I'd still do the swoop landing flare thing too. Start the slight pull on the brakes at 20m release your brake pressure, let it dive and pull your normal brake pressure flare. The extra wrap on the brakes should give you some extra slow down. It's hard to say what type of flare your wing likes cause every wing is different on how it lands and what type of flare action it prefers. hope this helps.

    • @cloudpandarism2627
      @cloudpandarism2627  Рік тому +2

      @@madsloper oh yes i totally forgot i can wrap brake toggles! yes yes big help thanks for reminding me. putting my throttle away is a bit tricky cause its wireless and i would probably drop the bloody thing into the ocean. its also common that i need to do 2 or 3 go arounds because turbulence is throwing me around right before landing. i rely on throttle in my mind to have the option to try again if its unstable. specially on that beach the air is like glass for hours and when i get ready to land a gust comes out of nowhere. keeping me on my toes. but i know what you mean and i will try that for sure. my brakes are very high already because i fly a custom high point harness for fatty pilots. thats another reason i cant fly long time. my hands are usually very high up and get tired after 20 min in the air. sometimes arms feel a bit numb which doesnt help smooth landings either when you barely have enough power to pull brakes on a huge EN-A wing. brake pressure is very very heavy. i am over the max rated limit of 165kg and that makes it extra difficult to flare. being heavy takes all benefits of easy flying away and multiplies the disadvantages eh? 🤣
      if weather allows it i will fly my wing couple more times before the spyder3 arrives and if its really that good as everybody says i will sell my APCO asap anyway. i dont think i want ever go back to that.
      you ask what type of flare my wing like. well usually in low winds it doesnt matter what i do. i am always way too fast. trims in or out or middle is like choosing between broken arm or broken leg. whatever you do it feels wrong. i see other pilots fly the same time as me. almost nil wind. coming in with 1 or 2 steps gently like a fairy. i am flaring down as hard i can and often just fall at a 30-40° angle. landings are very hard and hurt like son of a beach in my feet. 🤪
      as mentioned i tried swooping in. since i am already much faster than all others around me i dont see much difference. EN-A wings are just not efficient and dont care alot flare authority naturally i guess but being over the maximum weight makes it so much harder. the only advantage i like about this wing is its safe. even in most crazy turbulence that thing was rock solid over me. probably due to the massive drag it creates from the speed. its like pulling brakes all time anyway

      cheers buddy, yes yes and yes. i am also below 20 total flights and need to learn much more. eventually i will think about selling. i got very frustrated with my gasoline crap. so many problems with my moster185 before, caused me emergency landings and headache. and more headache each time i load the thing into my car and drive home with the strong smell for hours. thats all gone now and i cant be more happy. flying electric isnt for everybody but it does me well big time. all the disadvantages i had with gasoline are gone. less weight. more power. silent. no vibrations. easier to transport. list is going on and on. i love it and i will NEVER fly gasoline again in my life. the shorter flight time is perfect since i fly maximum 20-30min anyway and come back for a landing to rest. as you see we are in china so the gasoline stations here have insane rules that you cant get any gasoline for paramotors. after fighting with them countless times, filing documents, copying passports, driving licence and other total nonsense stuff i finally gave up and said its enough! i dont wanna deal with this BS anymore. and because i am building lithium batteries for years i just started to make my own EPPG.

      @cloudpandarism2627 what a great story! You need a documentary haha. And if you don't mind me asking..what made you go to China? I'm guessing your work? For me, that would be annoying dealing with the strict gas rules like that. But hey great job on making your own. Very impressive.
      And for me.. I should be flying more but I just get too lazy.. working 5 days a week doesn't help haha.

      @@rupman27isback haha cheers mate. well to be fair the gasoline is harder to get because they lit themself on fire alot before and do all kind of weird stuff like filling up plastic water bottles and such idiotic things so they had to do something. filling up my car is hassle free.
      i came to china because i cant stand germany anymore. one day i had enough, packed all my stuff, searched on google earth which place is most far away from berlin and bought a one way ticket. best decision in my life. overall its great here.
      yes i can understand. i want to fly more as well but time, weather and other things always come in between that. i am trying tho... 😅

    Amazing! Any idea on the overall cost? This the future! Not EFI. Too many things can go wrong. Batteries are getting more autonomy and lighter. Way to go. 😊

      i didnt calculate total cost at all yet because i am testing and building for a year. so many things changed. and i agree. just saw EFI video. 4kg more just to have a littler smoother run. not even a good increase in performance. i was a bit disappointed. electric isnt for everyone but it have alot advantages for pilots like me.

    Uau that's a short take off! Powerfull motor. What motor/esc/prop are you using? Builded myself too an eppg, it seems youtube doesn't post the comm with the link so if you're curious my project is posted on: openppg/community/builds/eppg-project 2,8kw battery.
    I've started with building the hand controller that you saw in my video. Used the openppg aluminium frame, then buyed the mad m50 34kw motor, mad 300A esc, 140cm e-prop, builded a 24s8p lithium ion battery, dudek harness. Need to ground test it but I sure love the prop sound. Great job you did!

    • @cloudpandarism2627
      @cloudpandarism2627  Рік тому +1

      thanks mate. i had the company made me a different KV motor. so the peak thrust is somewhere over 100kg instead of sp140s 91kg. i will build a second smaller unit for my friend here. and i am planning to increase prop size on my motor. there is no torque twist while flying so i can go bigger. when did you plan to have your first flight?

    • @Seneslau07
      @Seneslau07 Рік тому +1

      @@cloudpandarism2627 Now that's a lot of thrust! I've heard the mad 50 with the 140cm prop develops somewhere near 70kg thrust, 91kg being with the 160cm prop as advertised on their website, don't know just what I was told on the forum. Annyhow it's enough for me at my 68kg body weight 😄 might have to put a screw on the handle to mecanicaly limit the thrust to about 10-15kw, don't think I'll ever need more than that.
      Did the static hang test, got 16 degrees, I know 10-12 are recomanded but reading on the forum, others fly with 16 and seems that with thrust the angle gows down a bit. but I'll mount another layer of foam on my back to push me further forward to reduce the angle.
      If my 36v power supply hadn't burned (it wasn't good for my charger) I would have flown it by now. I'm waiting for another pover supply, this time after chating with the technician frow where I've order it. And I need to do some ground testing first to check everything like temperature, bolts, prop..at different rpm.
