    💬 On UA-cam there's tons of gorgeous looking Desk setups, always so perfect looking, super high end equipment and lots of RGB everywhere.
    By comparison my setup looks super basic and boring, is it just me? Or is my setup closer to the normal and those gorgeous ones are the outliers?

      Well, nobody said that it's a necessity to have aesthetic hardware to be a good game dev or a content creator. It's all about personal preference, comfort, and peace of mind. I personally prefer my desk organized, clean and sleek looking. It keeps me motivated throughout the day. A clean and sleek desk with a comfy chair makes long hours bearable.

    Most setups we see on YT look staged just for the videos. Yours looks much more reasonable and "real".
    Definitely based on a "if it works, no reason to change it" mentality which I agree 100% with.

      Obviously most people clean up their place and make it look as nice as possible. The high tier setups we see more from swag influencer streamers or tubers, and they have an image to upkeep.

    I can't believe a person that has earned about a million dollars through Steam has such a humble setup. I am super happy for Code Monkey. He doesn't have Shiny New Thing Syndrome.
    He does have a power PC though. The desk itself might not be as good as some of the other UA-camrs. I think that this is a very good setup. He has everything that he requires and he produces good quality products with it.
    My PC is relatively old. I hope Code Monkey keeps on succeeding financially so we always get good quality content from him, as we already do.

    I've been in IT since 2014, and a SWE since 2018. My setup is closer to yours, I have a desk with one leg that's about to fall off and break, old AOC monitors that are barely 1080p, a super cheap logitech keyboard, decent mouse because it was on sale, my desktop is from 2017, gtx 1080 ti, 8th gen i7, but 64gb of DDR4 ram (it was also on sale). I was considering upgrading my whole setup next black friday / cyber monday. Thanks for showing off your setup it's nice to see other professionals who aren't rocking super clean and high end gear for every single thing.

    Only thing worth mentionning in my setup is my 25'' wide monitor of 21:9 ratio. I use this thing flipped in portrait mode and can see 120+ lines of code at a time.
    Took a couple days to get used to, but it's been a couple years now, and I will pretty much never NOT have a flipped second monitor for the IDE.

    • @CodeMonkeyUnity
      @CodeMonkeyUnity  9 місяців тому +4

      I've thought about getting a third monitor and experimenting with a vertical layout, but it just seems so strange!

    • @LuukDomhof
      @LuukDomhof 9 місяців тому +1

      @@CodeMonkeyUnity About a year ago I swapped my two regular monitors for the LG Ergo Dual Up, which has a 16:18 aspect ratio, basically almost square. I've since figured out it's rather annoying for playing games (most games hate weird aspect ratios) but it's a dream for productivity work and ergonomics.
      It's basically two 22" screens stacked on top of each other, in a single display panel. This means you can either view a ton of code, or stack your engine of choice and IDE vertically, reducing head/neck movement and reducing the amount of alt-tabbing to switch between screens.

    Great video! My setup isn't particularly expensive either, but I'm the kind of person who likes everything to be well organized on my desk. great vid and cute dogs! my set up is nowhere near fancy, i use a plastic folding table as my desk and still use the 5:4 aspect ratio monitor i bought at a thrift store 10 years ago, i think i would start to watch TV at my computer or play too many games if i had a widescreen monitor so the square one keeps me from getting distracted too much

I am very glad to see one of the person I look up to has a set up that looks pretty much as blend as mine, but even though my setup is not pretty to look at or equipped with the mightiest of equipment's it still took me quite a hard work to build it up, I was able to complete the entire set up winning some prize money from a game jam 😅

    I don’t twitt so no photos, but I’ve been a game and XR developer for 37 years and my setup is really very similar. I prefer 3 screens, with the central one at QHD hdr, the other two are cheapest LG 27” screens. They’re on those wooden monitor stand box things which I like for the storage underneath. PC is decent, i7 with a 3080 and 32Gb… I’ve upgraded the drives twice and now have 2 M2 drives of 1Tb each, 2 regular ssd at 512Gb and a backup platter drive of 3Tb.
    The desk is 15 yo, proper office equipment, I like the smoothly rounded front edge which stops my forearms getting chafed by the sharper square edges of most tables. I did spend $450 on a decent office chair with an 8 hour rating… definitely worth it.
    My desk often gets messy though I tidy up regularly, can’t stand having toys in the workspace though - too much clutter messes up my focus.

    Years ago I went to the doctor about wrist pain, spending a lot of time in front of the computer.
    He told me to try pushing the keyboard further back on the desk, far enough so that your elbows are on the desk.

It is not even close to fancy. Even my PC, until start of this year was a 2nd generation i5, 12gb of ram and a 1060 3gb graphics card. This is basically my setup but with a better chair. I splurged on a the high end model Secret lab chair and haven't regretted it yet.

    Hey, first of all thanks for your amazing tuts! They help me so much currently :)
    Have you a video(series) about connecting unity to a database? I want to integrate a leaderboard system into my game but i dont know exactly what to use etc.

    • @CodeMonkeyUnity
      @CodeMonkeyUnity  8 місяців тому +1

      It depends on what backend you want to use. From the Unity side it is really just a HTTP request, I made a Leaderboard using Azure here unitycodemonkey.com/video.php?v=bVqSLLvao78

    I have a AMD 5600 with GTX2070 and the cheapest eco 32inch screen I could get (about 27 watts) and a small 24inch TV.
    As I am learning and not making any money yet, this suites me fine.
    Always interested in what books people have.
    I am currently reading "Blood, Sweat, And Pixels", the guy who wrote Stardew Valley made his millions and still kept his old car. It did the job. Thanks for the insightful video.

    I try to keep my desk clean and I did buy a monitor arm, but it's mostly for mental clarity and ergonomics, nothing that would be remotely impressive in a photo.

    Hi and thanks for the video, i got a question, can you tell about how to get a unity job in a company? what things are requirements and important to know? also the portfolio for unity developers and
    the duty of game developers in company, daily tasks to do, and these stuffs
    or if its possible please make a video about it . thanks

    • @CodeMonkeyUnity
      @CodeMonkeyUnity  9 місяців тому

      That's going to depend on the company and what position you're applying for. But in general having a good portfolio helps, so make a nice website with your top 3 projects that you've worked on

    My setup is just 2 laptops(a gaming laptop and the other without dedicated graphics, but can still run high quality dx10 GTA v), an RGB wireless mouse and an RGB headset. And I put them anywhere I want, on my bed or a very simple and small desk with a locker.
    That's it.
    I hope one day I get better rigs and a really fancy setup like the ones people use on UA-cam.

    I recommend the IKEA mousepad and the dav3 wired/less (ergonomic masterpiece, for me). A colour accurate primary monitor would be great too, I have not looked into budget options so right now i can only recommend the AQN from ASUS
