YOUR JACKED TOO?!?!! OH MY GOD
Do you have any plans to visit the "DevGAMM Lisbon 2023" exhibition maybe as Indie Game Developer? or like a regular game dev industry representative?
This Guy is the best role Model for not just game devs but Self employed people in General
I couldn't help but notice the absence of social life and life partners, so... yeah, probably.
@@MaxIzrin me too i dont know if i am only one who notice but really i can get an absence of social life and partners too. since i am too not so social but i like to notice others social life
@@MaxIzrin Well having dogs is a social life...

It's really wonderful to see a person that I can call my "teacher" have a healthy, organized schedule. Since I learned about unity about 3-4 years ago, I always dreamed myself in a life like yours in the future. Waking up early, working on game dev, going to gym, going to a walk with pets etc. Literally a perfect life I could ever ask for. Right now, I follow your tutorials everyday and been going to gym for around 4 months. This video was very motivational for me. Thank you for your videos and thank you for the community you've created 💜
I'm glad my videos have helped you! Thanks!
it's just an edited video
You are a huge inspiration. You lift, you volunteer, you're an indie game dev. I love your dogs and your channel. Can't wait for your next game!
Obrigado!
- Ele mostra a gelatina da Royal e diz que "in portuguese it's called gelatina"
From what I see, your code is not the only thing that looks in good shape hahaha
I loved this video! So interesting to see how a real coder/game dev/youtuber parcels out his day. I shared this with my daughter, and it blew her mind that you have such a healthy regimen! I also watch at 2x speed, but not your videos since you talk so fast! :)
Thanks!
Most day in the life videos are full of brags or humble brags, but yours is so honest and real. Kudos.
All the very best for launch 😊
Really enjoyed this, the final note on experimentation is so true! Im also in the 6 AM wake up group but Ive found that I really enjoy it as everything is so quiet. Thanks for sharing and best of luck on the release!
Thanks TJ! Yeah the quietness is one of my favorite parts, especially when I take my dog outside and there's literally no one out!!
So great you show the benefits of balancing physicial and mental work, its a balance I used to neglect and made it much harder to complete my gamedev goals.
Thanks for recommending the Code Complete book. I was wondering where can I learn good coding practices and luckily, I watched your video. If you have any other suggestion, please suggest something regarding the good code practices. You are such a huge inspiration. Thanks for the video.
That's really the main one, if you fully understand everything in those 800 pages you will massively improve your programming skills
Damn Code Monkey is JACKED!! Man I need to pickup my gym game!! Thanks for the great video!!
Great video man! Its nice to see the person who has taught me so much about game dev and how they operate on a day to day!
Love all your Content , Hello From North Wales :) Keep well and enjoy your Day :)
That's so cool I found your channel =) It brings my mood up all the time! Give your dogs some hugs from me and my family. Wish you all the best and looking forward to more videos. I have finished the kitchen chaos! Everything works well. And now I started "The Snake game" - following steps from one of your old projects. I read comments when I'm stuck. And I notice your way of explaining and editing has become so much better and clearer. I like my new hobby - coding whenever I have some free time and watching your videos=) Thank you, again. Cheers!
Thanks! Yeah I'm always trying to improve my presentation, I can indeed see quite a bit difference if I look back at my videos from 5 years ago!
Your discipline is admirable! Thanks for introducing me to the video speeder browser extension. I'm flying through a tutorial on Udemy that previously felt like it was dragging on.
Finally I've found another person who watches UA-cam on 3x speed. Finally, do even realise how my classmates look at me when I'm watching a video and they come to take a peek at what it is and it's so fast it's incomprehensible to 'em. That point alone makes me relate to you so much.
heh yup same thing with me any my parents "how can you understand that?"
Really great video, balance in life is so important and it seems like you have a really healthy daily schedule.
Cool life, I have been working close to 6 years from home remote and i must say, you seem to fit in a lot in 1 day amazing schedule !! Nice discipline !
Thank you for a great video! Funny how I did not picture you like in the video.
The man. The legend. CodeGorilla 🍺
Im gonna follow this routine but not until next year as I still have to spoil myself this christmas break 😛
heh you can start now and then feel less bad about eating a ton on christmas! That's my strategy, run a ton during December to burn all that off
Great video, balance is key to maximising your work output! I find my mind is most sharp and fresh in the mornings up until 3pm, so I tend to do programming orientated items in the morning and art/modelling/planning/reading in the evenings/night. But I'm nowhere near as structured as you 😂😅. Keep up the amazing work!
dude you're a freaking unit!
Your videos are always so inspiring!
Great video, thank you for sharing it!
Thanks for showing your work and life.
This video was like a booster for me! I'm kinda with the same routine but with different times.
Sir please make from scratch to end 3rd person shooting game with weapon sway ,procedural recoil with proper gun system and enemy damage i know you already cover most of the things but i want it in a single video with some new and improve way
honestly code monkey is currently one of my biggest inspirations in life
I wasnt expecting the Code Monkey abs reveal when i woke up today
Great video. Keep it up. Fingers crossed for Steam 💪💪
This is really inspiring. Thanks!
Not that we needed any more reason to like @CodeMonkeyUnity but a fellow gym rat and dog lover? Best of luck with the launch sir, I'll be picking up a copy for sure!
Wow you really prepare your life around gamedev. That's dedication
It is moving, good job! And I wish you a good luck. :) I can see similarities with my emergent over years routine(s) though I play a different field: mathematics, not game dev.
Been watching and doing your courses for a while and just found out you're portuguese aswell hahaha... currently studying for my masters at FEUP, but it isn't enough so I always check your videos out for extra knowledge, you should consider lecturing at an university 🙂
Dang, I wish I had your willpower! I'm an absolute couch potato comparitively! Even if I were to substitute my day job for just your game dev and video making time I still feel like a slacker!
Lol One thing that helped at work when I was still in the office was we had a team communal puzzle. Whenever I got stuck on a piece of code or bug analysis, I'd go to the puzzle and make good progress. Once I stopped making progress there, I'd go back and start making progress at real work again. Something about coming to each fresh had a weird synergy.
Oh wow that sounds fun! Very unique idea!
Question here!
1) Where are you from? I noticed with the video shots of your written notes that you write them in English, and I was curious if that is the native tongue of wherever you're located, or just your preferred note-taking language.
2) Do you have a discord community available to the public?
I'm from Portugal, born here, but since I've always spent so much time online my brain works mostly in English, I pretty much only use Portuguese when talking to people in real life.
I had a Discord once but I couldn't keep up with it, the issue is Discord is realtime whereas here on UA-cam comments I can just answer all once or twice per day.
This man needs to change his name from Code Monkey to Code Chad
That or Chad Monkey
100% RESPECT FOR GIGA CHAD MONKEY
nice !
stay healthy ^^!
literal Chad of the indie game dev community
damn, you're quite inspirational
It's called Jelly in British English, and Jello in American English
Did't expect a gigachad behind that voice
theprimeagen has been make cameos in a lot of content ive watched recently
His channel is definitely one of my favorites that popped up in the last year, really enjoy hearing his takes on various programming topics
That's interesting ...
I like how you take care of those dogs.
lovely dogs, great video, and finally I can relate to somebody on watching vids on x2-3 speed lol
In my next video I talk faster so it doesn’t sound like I’m slurring my words drunk, for all of those who listen at crazy speeds haha
Useful / inspiring.
hello sir, what about home cleaning and other stuff? where to get time for this?
I am facing this problem within my life so that asking :)
I am also an indie game developer.
Mostly do it all in one day per week, vacuum the floors, wash clothes, go to supermarket, etc.
Most off my video on my UA-cam channel so far it abut 1 min or less
I'm curious how fast ⏩ can the end up wean you have 3 time's the speed ?
To be fer none off those videos are tutorials most off them it's just showcase for the part's off my game the don't have any explanation
It's just screen recording
So you are just me from another country 😂😂😂 hope this video motivates other devs too 😊😊
Can't hate you even if i wanted to. You are a Chad and a fellow dog rescuing person.🐕
Thanks 😍
Hello code monkey really loved the video but one question what is your real name?
My name is Hugo!
Nice name
I can't believe my eyes, a game developer with an ideal and stable lifestyle 🗿
fr tho someone I can really look up to
code monkey is jean claude vandame of gamedev for real. youve changed many lives thank you
I would play code monkey simulator
Dude is GIGA CHAD... Why is he so good looking..
Sigma grindset?
Because he goes to the gym
GIGACHAD with a voice of a goofy cartoon character xD
I know right? It's like I imagined him be like a happy go lucky guy who likes snacks, not like muscular and ripped
sheesh bro have abs.
Incredible teacher, person, and game developer. A complete and utter legend.
Dude listens to videos at 3x the speed. He’s running on a different life speed lol
I'll be honest this is the best "day in the life of..." I've seen. Notably because you don't just tell us "what", you tell us "why". It was very interesting! Thanks.
Thanks! I was actually quite concerned this was way too detailed and thought about maybe cutting down quite a lot. So I'm glad you like this extended look!
@@CodeMonkeyUnity Not at all too detailed. I would like to see more. I think you showed some books about Stoicism? I would like to hear more about that. Though not sure if it goes too far away from game dev stuff. Maybe you need another channel for that?
You've motivated me to begin working out again, CM. I fell off the wagon a few months back.
Felt a little star struck seeing myself on your screen, ngl 💖
Nice! Best of luck with your workouts!
Your videos always have excellent visuals so it was the perfect example!
I like how focused you are man, you don't have fancy room setup and you just manage your tasks with simple text documents and writing them by hand instead of using platforms like notion or milanote that everybody talks about. You just focus on the "core" things 💯
Bro is fr gigachad and looks like him too
This was Amazing taking a look at your whole day.
I'm personally a Gym freak, so Loved the fact that you take fitness seriously 😄
Keep Making more Awesome Content 😊
You are absolutely someone else than I was thinking you are, when you burst onto the youtube scene! You are really great person. And volunteering at the dogs shelter. Wow! I am impressed! Great Job! I wish you the best with everything you are doing.
Been a game dev for more than 5 years (got my own business) and I've never been more in shape than since I started gameDev :)
Do the abs and biceps come with the job title?
@@343guiltyspification you can either show the Unity logo on the Splash screen, or the six pack
Nice!
@@343guiltyspification Lmao ye would love that
thats great to hear, it's the opposite for me unfortunately. but this video has definitely motivated me to get my act together
Glad I'm not the only one mixing fitness and gamedev. Keep going bro 🤙🤙
It's a great combo!
Best of luck with your launch next week! Thanks for showing how you keep a balanced lifestyle while being productive in your career. I agree that exercise is a huge routine to prevent burnout. Can you do a video or Q&A on how you were able to become a full time indie game dev and UA-camr, and what other work also helps fuel your projects?
I did a game dev journey video quite some time ago and it's still a great video ua-cam.com/video/0zscPf_U1VY/v-deo.html
I will definitely be doing a video covering all the stats from Dinky Guardians, covering what the sales numbers are and how they compare to the goals I set in the beginning of this project
@@CodeMonkeyUnity I'll give it a watch! Thanks for the reply
HUH? HE'S RIPPED?!
This dude could legit post fitness content. “Hello everyone I’m your GymMonkey and in this video I will teach you how to train your biceps using the new gym framework”.
I like the clarity in this video. Inspired by you, I too have been going to the gym consistently for about 3 months and am seeing some progress.
I plan to adopt a dog in the near future too, and obviously I have been following your game dev tutorial as long as I can remember.
You probably can't even fathom the effects of your work, as I also live in a completely different continent thousands of kilometers away.
Please continue to make such videos and be the perfect example for students like me.
Thank you.
Nice! I'm glad my videos have helped you! Thanks!
Impressive stuff CM.
Being self employed is a serious thing and you're definitely putting in the effort for it.
Great video and inspirational too!
legit the thumbnail was jaw dropping!
You're such an inspiration! It's great to see that it's possible to be an indie dev and to still have a life outside of work. Personnally, most of my free time is for music (I play piano and cello at a music school), and it would be really difficult to quit that. And sleep and food are quite vital too 😄
Music is definitely something I'd love to learn properly, I've had a guitar for years and bought a piano about a year ago, but can never find the time to consistently practice.
Boa sorte!
Thanks for uploading this video. It really inspires me to stop being a lazy person and start being productive. I'll try to be consistent at it.
Again, thanks a lot ❤
As a dog dad of a 15 year old mutt, it is so great to see that you take the time they need to walk.
I still walk my old dog 1 hour per day minimum and it has kept him healthy even in his old age, but also the exercise he needs to have a balanced life. ❤
So glad you have the flexibility in work to give them they attention and love they deserve :D
"Dog dad"... 2023, ladies and gentlemen!
That's awesome! 15 years is a really great long time, I was hoping my previous dog would live that long but sadly he passed just before 13, I really miss him.

This is a very respectable schedule. As a guy that struggles with depression and balancing life correctly ur video made me see something great. You have a great schedule that keeps u healthy and motivated. I admire you and wish to improve my life to be close to ur schedule and healthy habits.
If it helps, I can tell you I've suffered from depression for most of my life, really only started to feel good about myself in the past ~7 years. My job, my dogs and working out has really helped me find my path in life, I hope you can find your path as well! Best of luck!
@@CodeMonkeyUnity people say that exercise helps with depression, did it helped with yours? (exercise specifically)
Martial arts can help too, exercises with people.
@@romannavratilidI can tell you that it absolutely did for me. There's physiological and mental reasons but I'd recommend it. Start slow and get in a routine and you'll see improvements.

Man, I just want to say how much I respect you. For me, this video reflects how you can focus on what really matters to you and made you keep self improving. This is what I expect from a real “A day in my life” video when you're having a real and healthy life. Thank you for not trying to sugarcoat anything. I've been going through a rough patch lately, and this kind of content helps me remember that I should be focusing on what is important for me. I judge people by how they treat their dogs, and the fact that you volunteer your time to help at a dog shelter (and adopted rescued dogs) is a big win in my book. Code Monkey is a literal Giga Chad people should aspire to be.

Hey, I have a few question:
How do you stay motivated to do the games you do? -I got tones of idea I'd like to create and become a self employed indie dev, but it seems too far away...
Why did you start this path? Where you a developer or some kind of artist? How did you became that professional? I'd like to learn as much as I can.. I feel like I'm starting out of time to start my path in game development.
The best answer is simply, I don't really rely on motivation, I define a plan and then I follow through, even on the days when I don't feel like it.
One thing that helps is simply experience, my first game was really tricky to make, I was definitely being controlled by "motivation" at that point, but nowadays, this is my 9th Steam game, now it's simply a job. Today I was handling localization stuff on my game, definitely not fun, definitely don't want to do it, but it needs to be done so that's it
I covered my game dev journey in this video ua-cam.com/video/0zscPf_U1VY/v-deo.html
There's motivation, there's forcing through, and there's habit. I've been learning habit is really something. It can work for or against you. It's easy to underestimate, I think.
almos 10 years without showing the face we think he is a weeb god, Then less than 4 months with a face cam he is flexing the ABS... GOATED
1. Wow you're ripped, awesome job with that. 💪
2. I watch videos at 1.5-2x speed, 3x feels like living in warp speed. 😅(But it does depend on the UA-camr)
3. Awesome suggestions for Podcasts and channels to check out, I'll have to give those a try.
You are literally the true gigachad of game dev - or just leading a disciplined life in general. This is super inspirational! Thank you!
in fact i'm also going to gym like you but only difference is i'm obese XD Well that also why i started to going gym for like little bit more than a month now and already lost 10kg XD Damn i wasn't expecting to be that easy to lose weight. I was 152kg and 141kg and i still need to lose a lot of weight but hey baby steps. I'm planning to down to 90kg
Good for you man! That’s great to hear, you got this! 💪
Nice man! Hope you reach your desired weight soon!
But remember, never give up independently of the situation, cheers.
That's awesome, congrats on the progress! Make sure you take it slow and focus on making it sustainable, best of luck!
