My first PC 'desk' was the bathroom door in my studio apt. I figured I could use the dead space behind the door-swing for some shelves and the door itself was more than sturdy enough for my needs. I used a half-height bookshelf on one end, a mini-fridge on the other and routed all the cables through the hole for the door knob - 30yrs later and my current desk really isn't much different. I built it out of 3/4" ply, oak trim and added a riser for my displays with a soundbar (Katana) underneath. It supports my main display and two "reference screens" that I use to track misc stuff. Your comment about standing desks is weird. I work in profession where 60+ hour weeks are very comon and being up to stand while working is very benefical. "going for a walk" is time that is needed to get work done.
It's not about 'standing', it's about changing your position periodically, so sitting for a while, standing for a while, etc. They should be referred to as 'sit/stand' not 'standing'.Also, sit/stand desks allow you to properly dial in your perfect seating position as we're all built slightly differently. I personally could never go back to a static desk having bought my first sit/stand desk last year.
You don't need a $500 desk to stand up periodically... I am not judging you for getting one. But don't sell it to others as they need it for a healthier lifestyle when they can just... stand up. lol

I've been looking for good alternatives to the Ikea hack. I want the 98" Karlby since I have 2 PC's and 3 monitors. But its way cheaper than buying the $950 Secretlab magnus pro XL thats still only 70"
I went the Home Depot butcher block route and love it. 7ft long or so. I cut a 10in section off it long ways and made a monitor riser/stand to add some more utility as well.. With the legs I got, and the stain, it was under $250 at the beginning of the pandemic. Ive got some craft room roll out drawers that work fine for my usecase of half pc desk, half modeling, painted desk.
@@blasandresayalagarcia3472 I stained and sealed it and oiled like once after cleaning for a move. The finish was a self leveling sealer that shouldnt need oil. And its not a food prep surface for me, so its definitely less maintenance involved. Or maybe Im doing it wrong lol I did get a second table that was pre-stained, and all I did was add a sealer to it. Matches pretty close, and a have lots of space on a corner desk now.
I'm in the process of setting up a desk based on a birch 6' butcher block. They look nice and should last forever, you can always sand it down and refinish it, almost an unlimited amount of times. Its the ultimate Ikea hack.
I picked a termite eaten dead tree on the property and pulled it down… checked for eggs in the bird nest up top first. Took the tree to a mill and had it cut in slices. Picked the best thick piece and used that for my desk top. Used a lift stand from Amazon with decent motors and a touch panel. I just used a light oil wash to seal it. Cable management is heavy and I need to rethink either a wall rack or a better rack on the stand. It’s like a rats nest right now. I like your setup. I have servers and workstations… oh… wall step-off with everything behind it with egg lighting glowing effect. I can do that!
My back has actually been better on a more solid chair and got fucked on a ergo office chair. The idea of “this is healthy for everyone “ is marketing so you tie yourself to a product.
I just bought one, a cheap one. Respawn at $180 something, and although I got used to the back support part, its the butt part that is the big issue. It feels way too stiff. But I feel like we chose the wrong gaming chair.
This video is awesome. I'm not local to an Ikea so back at the beginning of 2021. I went to my home depot and dropped $180 on a 6 foot butcher block top. I went from a 4 foot wide desk with only 21 inch depth to a 6 foot wide and 30 inch depth and it was amazing, ended up coping some crappy legs from amazon that were on the brink of death within the next year and went with some industrial piping and its study as a rock now. i love this desk it is SOOO study and so thick its amazing, hasn't let me down yet. especially being able to drill holes in the bottom for my power strips was a life saver for cable management. My only down side is i got it in Aprilish of that year so it was still super cold out so i never got to stain mine like i wanted to and haven't had the chance since so its a bright wood which i don't care for but regardless the desk is absolutely amazing and a BIIIIIIG recommend to anyone with around $220-$230 budget for a desk.
For almost 20 years I had a 61'' x 30'' mahogany desk and I recently switched to a Desky gaming standing desk 48"" x 29.2"" and never looked back. 61'' was just was too large and took too much space. I was worried taht 48'' would be too small but it's more than enough.
The best setup is definitely the Ikea set up I assembled a desk for my girlfriend and it's still in a very good condition. Even though she is a teacher and not a gamer the amount of room is fantastic for her preference and the drawer space is phenomenal! I'd highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for the same experience.
Big Man is basicly giving me answers to my new years goal to make my dream desk, thank you for making these vids man. you deserve more atention man, keep up the amazing work.
I have a stand up desk from fully and I love it it helps so much with my back issues definitely don’t stand all day at it just go between sitting and standing multiple times a day definitely helps when being tall so my knees fit under the desk
If you had no money, don’t mind the looks. just build a table with angle steel. Super durable, impossible to shake it. Not joking almost like a brick. my 200x70 table cost me 100$ with tabletop
I went the Home Depot based route and bought an 8'x2' live edge countertop for my setup. I went a little overkill with the project and pulled a lot of inspiration from Blacktail Studio here on UA-cam. I routed out two pockets for some metal C channel to prevent any possible warping, used some nice black powder coated wishbone style legs, stained the wood with a black liquid dye and sealed it with two coats of Rubio Monocoat, a hardwood floor sealer. I have more than enough room for my 34" ultrawide monitor, my pc and my laptop with plenty of space for anything else I might add in the future. There are plenty of cheaper options out there, considering material costs plus all the tools I bought, but knowing that this is the only one like it and I did everything myself makes it all worth it in the end.
As far as the sit/stand desks go, I think you may be missing the ergonomics behind them. You are not meant to stand all day, as you had said. The idea is that neither is a good thing to do all day, but doing both helps to increase circulation, better your posture, and just overall make you feel better throughout the day when you have to slog in front of a computer your whole life. I'm guessing that, since you are talking about gaming, it's a voluntary thing and you may be looking for a seated desk with a super comfy chair.
Doubt you’ll see this, but I need some advice for my small bedroom/office desk setup. If I were to DM you could you give me advice. I know if I were to get great advice from anyone it’s you.
Was recently in search for a budget wider desk, the ikea hack desk you mentioned really saved me a lot of time and money, thanks a lot for your videos!
CAN YOU DO A REVIEW OF THE Unikito U Shaped Computer Desks, Reversible Office Desk with LED Strip and Power Outlets, L Shaped Table with Full Monitor Stand and Storage Shelves, 83 Inch Large U- Shape Gaming Desk, Black Oak
Tried many desks. All suck. The best desk is the one you make. Do it fast and easy, like they do your mom, on TinkerCad, sketch it out in 10 minutes, think it over, sleep a day, look at it again. Either get wood cut or steel square tubes cut, weld or glue whatever you want, put it all together. I made mine from construction wood, 80cm deep, 120cm wide, recessed 40cm plank underneath 20cm height, all your console or htpc cases go in there. Neat, cleaned up, closed sides, plank underneath at the feet for the pedals, and I put the whole thing on wheels too, 4 straight ones, 4 rotating ones with brake the other side, 4 rotating wheels no brakes in the back, slide out tray for the keyboard at ideal height strong enough for me to sit on, I can jump on the desk nd it stays put.
I just cant deal with wrapped desks anymore. I have a really nice manager style desk from office depot but it is composite with a wrap around it that is peeling really bad. Id rather have plastic desks than worry about a damn wood sticker peeling off.
A lot of those with standing desks have a treadmill underneath it. In that scenario, the standing desk is a much better option. The act of walking on the treadmill constricts and releases the blood vessels, increasing circulation. It's the same reason they recommend that you do foot and leg exercises on a long flight. Additionally, it improves cognitive function. FYI, you don't need to buy a desk with storage. You can get a cheap, three-drawer plastic storage tower that fits nicely under most desks. If you want to get fancy, you can go to a furniture store and get an upscale wooden one. Adjustable desks can also remedy poor posture or improper keyboard and mouse height levels to prevent cramping. Most chairs can only adjust to a small degree.
I'm still using a desk from the 90s that has a back part with shelves and stuff. I want to replace it due to wear and how it's difficult to clean behind, but no realistically priced modern desk options are anywhere near as big. I'll definitely have to do something custom.
I bought a 349.00 dark oak butcher block from Lowes and a 114.00 steel x legs off Amazon I did cut the butchers block and made a small shelf with the left over cuts imma eventually going to router out a cut around the bottom to put in leds. the smell from the fresh wood is a nice change to my gaming room
Nice, very nice video! I personally back in 2020 bought the cheapest option from IKEA, it was super simple to assemble, few screws and that's it, yes there are no drawers but I have 2 monitors 27 and 24 inch on them with the whole PC on it (modern one - believe me newer PCs are heavier). The two downsides I see from 3 years now is that in the middle where the 27 inch monitor is it has bent a bit and I wish it was a bit more sturdy, it does not move when i type aggressively but still :D. I would suggest with both hands just go IKEA if you have the option, super cheap and super easy to built I think about 35 Euros or 70 leva (bulgarian currency) i bought the tabletop with the legs, I wanted specific color - all gucci.
Hey there, {{3}}! As a fellow tech enthusiast, I can totally relate to the struggle of keeping a clean and dust-free setup. Have you considered using the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule? It's a compact device that offers powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities, perfect for maintaining a spotless environment on your desk and beyond. It's reasonably priced and has some great features like strong suction power and a quick keyboard cleaning function. Definitely worth checking out! 😄🖥🧹
The reason I bought and love my standing desk is not to stand all day. In fact, I rarely stand. I bought it to be able to adjust the height of my desk to a comfortable sitting height to not have shoulder pain and problems from poor ergonomics (which I experienced before and went away after using it). Adjusting your chair height helps but isn't sufficient since most chairs don't go high enough and you don't want your feet to dangle just to have a good desk to hip height. Out of 4 saved heights for my desk, 3 of them are different sitting heights which I alternate between along with my chair height to get a different sitting feeling (changing the position and bend in knee feels good.) I choose to buy the standing desk frame separate so I could choose my desk countertop independently. My desk frame also provides support to the desk, so it doesn’t bow over time thanks to the fact that both sides of the legs (left and right) are linked via a support frame from one side to the other on which the desk countertop lays (is screwed to). Since my standing desk didn't have storage, I just added an Alex drawer to the right of my desk. I also placed my computer tower on it to display it and not lose desk space. (Sit stand desks have a max weight limit which I’m far from surpassing [350lbs for mine] but helps, nonetheless. Standing desks are more expensive, but I “invested” in purchasing one for my health as I would for a desk chair or bed since with the amount of time I spend using it, having one can prevent/mitigate long-term health problems from occurring thus providing me better quality of life and possibly preventing health related bills later on. I’d love to know if anyone else has similar or different reasons for buying a standing desk and how their experience using it has been.
I personally thing that standing desks are good cause you dont stand all the time, you sit and stand for sometime and standing desks are expensive unless you know what your doing, u can get a great standing desk frame like 200-400 and you can get a tabletop or countertop(countertop is typically more heavier than tabletop) so mostly you could get a good standing desks for 300-400 bucks overall. Sure ikea desk hack is fine but people typically dont have much space for it, and they take a tabletop making the leg room cramped cause of the alex drawers.
@@BigE no offense to your opinion, but i think that once im in work i cant get to stand up and same applies to standing desks. So i usually use a good chair which isnt necessarily good for comfort but isnt bad for my posture so i stand up to get rid of my pain while sitting on that chair for a long time, so while standing i can continue my work. But for regular desks i would rather just do something else in that time which kinda defeats the purpose of me doing work(like im not hating on doing something else but id rather continue on my work).

What case are you running at 12secs? Whats light effect is that 12secs?

Hi. Are the ikea alex drawers strong enough to put a heavy system unit on it?
Yep
2:20 LOL nice keyboard 😭😭😭😭
how would you categorize wayfair in that area?
We got the same background 😅
you are supposed to sit and stand at the desk.... not just leave it at one Hight and never move it.....
I made a DIY desk outtta a door 10/10

What size is the desk in the thumbnail?
Garshdarnit, explain 1001 things with nothing in the description to help a person out to find this recommendations. GGs go next. 😂

Hello, Congratulations Cool 👍👏👏👏👏
I went the Home Depot butcher block route and love it. 7ft long or so. I cut a 10in section off it long ways and made a monitor riser/stand to add some more utility as well.. With the legs I got, and the stain, it was under $250 at the beginning of the pandemic. Ive got some craft room roll out drawers that work fine for my usecase of half pc desk, half modeling, painted desk.
I'm thinking of going this route but I hate oil and how it feels, what was your experience with this?
@@blasandresayalagarcia3472 I stained and sealed
it and oiled like once after cleaning for a move. The finish was a self leveling sealer that shouldnt need oil. And its not a food prep surface for me, so its definitely less maintenance involved. Or maybe Im doing it wrong lol
I did get a second table that was pre-stained, and all I did was add a sealer to it. Matches pretty close, and a have lots of space on a corner desk now.
Great Video! Went through all the desk phases, but by far my home depot live edge butcher block countertop is my favorite!
SAME HER!

Biggest fail and delusion are "gaming" chairs. Throw that crap out the window and buy a decent office chair. Your back will be grateful.
My back has actually been better on a more solid chair and got fucked on a ergo office chair. The idea of “this is healthy for everyone “ is marketing so you tie yourself to a product.
Absolutely.
I just bought one, a cheap one. Respawn at $180 something, and although I got used to the back support part, its the butt part that is the big issue. It feels way too stiff. But I feel like we chose the wrong gaming chair.
What’s the desk in the thumbnail and at 0:06?
This video is awesome.
I'm not local to an Ikea so back at the beginning of 2021. I went to my home depot and dropped $180 on a 6 foot butcher block top. I went from a
4 foot wide desk with only 21 inch depth to a 6 foot wide and 30 inch depth and it was amazing, ended up coping some crappy legs from amazon that were on the brink of death within the next year and went with some industrial piping and its study as a rock now. i love this desk it is SOOO study and so thick its amazing, hasn't let me down yet. especially being able to drill holes in the bottom for my power strips was a life saver for cable management.
@Trygvar13 that's awesome! For me I still feel like I have no room with a 6 foot desk 😂
thats what she said
The best setup is definitely the Ikea set up I assembled a desk for my girlfriend and it's still in a very good condition. Even though she is a teacher and not a gamer the amount of room is fantastic for her preference and the drawer space is phenomenal! I'd highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for the same experience.
which desk did you bought
Did you need the middle support?
Big Man is basicly giving me answers to my new years goal to make my dream desk, thank you for making these vids man. you deserve more atention man, keep up the amazing work.
I have a stand up desk from fully and I love it it helps so much with my back issues definitely don’t stand all day at it just go between sitting and standing multiple times a day definitely helps when being tall so my knees fit under the desk
An adjustable standing desk + an affordable lightly used Herman Miller chair has absolutely saved my back!
me who gonna get the 200 cm ikea hack table for 1 monitor and ps4 😂😂😂😂
They also sell shelf stiffeners on amazon if you just want to screw something in.
Whataaaaa
Just picked up my Alex drawers finally. Been waiting forever for Atlanta to have the black/brown ones in stock
Thank you, was looking for this!
Best tip: turn off all the lights
No more problems
Doubt you’ll see this, but I need some advice for my small bedroom/office desk setup. If I were to DM you could you give me advice. I know if I were to get great advice from anyone it’s you.
These transitions are so smooth, the whole video was very visually appealing 😍

Was recently in search for a budget wider desk, the ikea hack desk you mentioned really saved me a lot of time and money, thanks a lot for your videos!
Do you think it’s 2023?
CAN YOU DO A REVIEW OF THE Unikito U Shaped Computer Desks, Reversible Office Desk with LED Strip and Power Outlets, L Shaped Table with Full Monitor Stand and Storage Shelves, 83 Inch Large U- Shape Gaming Desk, Black Oak
Ikea has become expensive here in Sweden. Furniture there has going up several $10's. It's so bad
Hey super random question, where did you get the SnapBack in this video??? Was looking at getting the magnus desk so thanks for the video!
@big E what desk do you use with like the thing where your monitor is in it looks sick and i kinda wanna rebuild it 12:30
loved the video. butcher block countertop is my favorite. Where is the best place to get a desk riser for the desk bending on the weight
butcher block home depot, topsky standing desk.. easiest shit ever.. bit pricey but will last most likely forever
I like standing desk because when I livestream or speak, I am more energetic.
Solid insight brother! Going to take some of these into consideration for my at home creative setup. 💯💯
How do you figure out how tall you need drawers? Also what material for the drawers? Metal?
To be fair with the standing desks my boss has one and a small treadmill so he walks while working
You know I might try the IKEA, there is one only 20 mins from me
TONS of great info in here. Where's your "Hire me" link??
$2,000
I need variety.. your being biased.. the WHOLE VIDEO IS ON IKEA.. ffs
Find me a place that gives so many options in one location for a cheap price and I’ll happily look more into that.
Out of 4 saved heights for my desk, 3 of them are different sitting heights which I alternate between along with my chair height to get a different sitting feeling (changing the position and bend in knee feels good.)
I choose to buy the standing desk frame separate so I could choose my desk countertop independently.
I’d love to know if anyone else has similar or different reasons for buying a standing desk and how their experience using it has been.
hmmm Think I'll just buy me some lumber and get to building
The problem is that ikea it’s becoming more and more expensive
I personally thing that standing desks are good cause you dont stand all the time, you sit and stand for sometime and standing desks are expensive unless you know what your doing, u can get a great standing desk frame like 200-400 and you can get a tabletop or countertop(countertop is typically more heavier than tabletop) so mostly you could get a good standing desks for 300-400 bucks overall. Sure ikea desk hack is fine but people typically dont have much space for it, and they take a tabletop making the leg room cramped cause of the alex drawers.
So hear me out, this may seem crazy, but what if... you don't have a standing desk but you still just........ stand from time to time?
🤯
@@BigE no offense to your opinion, but i think that once im in work i cant get to stand up and same applies to standing desks. So i usually use a good chair which isnt necessarily good for comfort but isnt bad for my posture so i stand up to get rid of my pain while sitting on that chair for a long time, so while standing i can continue my work. But for regular desks i would rather just do something else in that time which kinda defeats the purpose of me doing work(like im not hating on doing something else but id rather continue on my work).
not sure what the stand is on his desk that he has his monitor on can anyone tell me?
Awesome video

Cleared a lottt of my doubts, thank you. Hope I am able to setup a cool desk for my brother, thanks for the video, really helped❤
