If anyone has a doubt why the highest number has been assigned to 4th carbon and not 5th carbon. It's bcz the 5th carbon is not optically active ( it's not chiral)
Thank You Sir, Radhe Radhe Radhe-Shyam, 🙏॥ Sir, My question is,NH3 group is on the left so saying L configuration but what is the reason and what would happen if H was replaced by OH or COOH group? Thank You Sir ॥
Levo(L) means it rotates in anticlockwise direction so for this representation we use (--)ve sign Similarly dextro(D) means it rotates in clockwise direction so for this we use (+)ve sign

the first of all, the structure should be given then u can find D and L notation second, there is a certain limitation where D and L notation cannot be applied...e.g. two -OH group opposite to each other in butan-2,3-diol

@@jhansi7220 wha-what? Im indian and yet I know that Xiao and Li are distinctly mandarin. Korean names are usually more sharp

we can find easily with r and s nomenclature.✌
Thnx a lot sir...u really simplified this...!!!
Do.... L, & D, configuration alter the chemical and physical properties of substances?
chemically same physically different..
For some medicines it can make a huge difference.

What about the compound which contain both NH2 group and OH group...Then which group is seen to find D or L form
Sir if a compound is has OH group but on it's vertical line then what will be the procedure plz explain
to solve this you must learn R and S system..

what is optical isomers of tartaric acid
Sir, plz understand in details , how D&L configuration are not possible.
Can we write d and l form for all chiral compounds
Thanku so much 🙏🙏🙏👌💕💕💕
Jo 1 2 ghante ka video bnake time brbad krte h i think ye usse better h
So do we only consider OH to see whether it's d or l sir?
this system develop for nomenclature of carbohydrates and amino acids.
hence consider OH in case of carbohydrates and NH2 in case of amino acids
Thankyou sir ❤️
Can you explain more only about amino acids L and D configuration
Very helpful sir
thank you 🙏
Tq sir nice explanation
If there is no OH, but remains Other radical like NO2,Br,Cl...halozen,then how can I find D and L??
Pls kindly ans..
*NH2
Sir what is capital D and L stands for relative configuration .. d means dextro rotatary and l means leavo rotatory
No , capital D/L and small d/l both are different meaning. capital D/L is relative configuration while small d/ l means absolute configuratin
Tysm si💛
Thanks sir big help
Great explanation
TQ sir supe 🎉🎉
Sir agar both Nh2 and OH present ho tab kya karenge
Can we assign + for D and - for L???
No, D and L stand for the position of H- and OH- group, while (+) and (-) sign indicate the direction of rotation of PPL by a compound.
D may be (+) and (-)
Thankyou very much sir...it wud be very helpful if u post videos for all about chirality like chirality devoid of chiral centre
Thank you very much SIR.
very nice 👍
How u find that 5 carbon in gulcose is need to find d or l
its rule, when more than one chiral carbon present.
Plzz show for tartaric acid
Alpha hydroxy acid has DL nomenclature.
How can we determine if OH is not given in compound
this system is developed for amino acids and sugars, hence rest of

Bhai mujhe tumhare yeh counting smj nhi aay...... jab hamare paas kafi saare chiral carbon hote hai toh choose konse c-atom ko karte hai??? bata do bhai plz.....
IUPAC ke according jis carbon pe sabase bada number assign hoga..
How to determine (+) & (-) signs??? & how to determine the centre with lowest chirality, that is the biggest problem.
(+) & (-) signs are determine by instrument called "Polarimeter"
these signs are usually given..
