- Hi Guys,
This video captures my point of view on HONDA NX500 pricing and positioning. I picked engine configuration and compared it with other similar adventure bikes in India.
When we compare HONDA NX500 against ROYAL ENFIELD HIMALAYAN 450 or KTM Adventure 390 then nx500 stand no chance. You can get two himalyan 450 or Adventure 390 in the same price and would save little bit as well. Then I started to compare it against twin cylinder adventure bikes in India and then understood the positioning.
Other twin cylinder adventure bikes are Kawasaki Versys 650, Suzuki V storm 650 and TRK 502. Versys 650 and V storm justify the price difference as they offer lot more for the price they charge. NX500 and TRK502 are similar in spec and price and match very close to each other. So finally, among twin cylinder advs HONDA NX500 seems to be the most value for money bike currently available in India.
Only one this to be mentioned or I wish for is that Honda should have given it about 55bhp then it would have been a good differentiation with single cylinder advs. That would have made HONDA NX500 a strong bike to consider. Right now it will still be compared with Himalayan 450 and Adventure 390 as the power figures are very close.
However, once anyone buys a HONDA never regrets.

I would not get himalayan or ktm even for their half the price,. honda is at different level in reliability and refinement.. nx500 engine is far advanced and better additionally its twin engine.
I can't agree since my uk cb500f broke down at 340 miles. Eng temp sensor failed. Dealer has fixed it now, but lost bike for five days.
I live in Poland. Prices vary in other countries. The cheapest Himalayan 450 in Poland costs 580000 in your currency. Ktm and Honda prices are similar ~677000, so I ordered the NX500. Regards from Poland.

@@17405pop my honda dealer ask 7400€ "on the road" for the nx500 and 6900€ for the cb500x (brand new as well, from late 2023) but i would pick the nx500
If it comes to my country price will be $25000 usd because crf 300l price is $18000 now
For the Price range I will go for Honda.
Because Parallel Twin have far more advanced than single cylinder Vibrator.
Friend i bought jawa classic in 2019 and sold it off in 2024 for 55% discount. I drive honda cb300r, i realized what is Japanese engineering is. Honda any day, nx500 is relaexed driving pleasure, no heating issue, in spite of 196kg kerb weight it feels so light and easy to handle. Weight balance and center of gravity is very well managed. If you have money go for it. No question of RE or KTM, nx500 will be my next bike.
A lot might depend on how long you want to keep the bike and its track record. Honda 500NX engine is a VERY well proven mill. The RE's sporting a newly developed engine. Probably OK but perhaps a tad more stressed than the Honda.
Higher compression ratios translate to increased stress. The RE is 11.5 -1. The KTM is a whopping 12.88 with the lower compression Honda twin pumping at 10.7.
The higher stressed that these little motors are has an impact on reliability and longevity of an engine.
The Honda will most likely need a lot less in major repair work than the Enfield across the years and certainly less than the KTM.

The KTM has a dubious record of reliability with head gasket failure. The new Enfield is a risk as it is unproven. The Honda is reliable
Every body doesn't look at price as the deciding factor, especially enthusiasts. You want refinement, engineering epitome, after sales running cost and spares easy. Hands down you'll go for Honda. You want a bike with constant after sales headaches, buy RE. 390adv is atleast better when compared.

If RE & KTM improve their quality, but still don't push the price tag to something as high as NX, then it will be a very difficult to still go for NX500. However, with the way things are going, RE & KTM aren't that far either. No matter what you choose, its a great time to be alive as a bike enthusiast.

where i live ktm390 is 75 euros cheaper than nx500 so if price is about the same there is no reason to buy ktm. i got my licence with ktm 790 and it sucked

NX500 is a CBU which attracts 30-135% import duty vs KTM390 manf in INDIA. The problem here is with the additional cess/tax that gov is imposing on CBU units.

Yes, very true. Don’t know why Honda not making it in India. Kind of engineering they brings can really give them advantage over other brands provided they are priced well and cbu it is not possible.
only if aprilia tuareg 457 exists with a price tag of 4.5lakh ex showroom, honda might rethink their pricing. But as of now things won't change sadly.

at this price point we won't get charging ports,no bash plate, no aux lights,no engine guards. yeah i love this bike at once when i see the image of it.but after seeing the price i stepped back from my thoughts.i feel like it is not value for money bike. may be the upcoming 350cc adv may fullfill indians satisfaction. little bit tweak in that engine and loading with some really useful features will increase the sales of honda bikes in indian market. but patent image shows the exact himalayan 411 design.

Why have you not considered Moto Morini X-cape. It is almost same price, 650CC, 59BHP, 215kg, Lower seat height(810mm), good for off road.
Himalayan and ktm can't be compare..Honda ticks so many other boxes. Yes himalayan is the best value for money but Honda has finest engine out there famous worldwide for its touring performance. Ergonomics, better instrument cluster, better brakes, head turning looks, lightest clutch, better riding posture, twin cylinder and most important tubeless tires. Himalayan tubeless tires is 50k inr additional on the pocket so when compare need to consider that cost too. Himalayan is one of the best and Honda is a good choice who has better budget and want to experience better overall touring experience.
That twin cyclinder engine is a gem, refinement level can't compare, but i like street version more hope honda launch it in future
In most of Europe prices are much more diferent. Himalayan 450 starting 5900€ and NX500 7950€ base model.

The heat Himalayan and KTM generates, when compared to NX is more, so they are not ideal for city rides with some traffic! Since I'm looking forward for a bike that can be also taken within the city limits, in addition to long rides.
