Jim was one of the only comedians I was able to show my sister and bond with her over how funny he was. His ability to not use profanity or crude humor and still translate is forever valued to me and her.
2:48 Theo fans love how transparent, relatable, down to earth and real he is. His stories are wild, but how he storytells is unique. And the straight face randomness that comes out his mouth is just too funny! And when he tries to describe something that he can’t find the word for, it’s just so funny. And it’s really appreciated when he gets on the show and he’s feeling off, he’ll tell you. He’s open about his experiences and feelings, and the people love it despite when he’s not feeling great. Yes!!!! I know almost nothing about that world, but my favorite thing is hearing people talk about their passion! I get so burned out on listening to comedians talk about what it's like to hang out in an LA/NY/Austin green room. To be clear, I recognize they're comedians, and that's their life. I LOVE the "craft" discussions about writing but only when they're focused on creativity and pursuit of passion. Instant tune out for me when an anecdote starts with "we were at the bar and..."
Amazing conversation ranging from embarrassment at puberty to how to discern if impulses are from intuition or ego. Loved it. Great to see authentic communication.

We love theo bc he recognizes his demons and understands he isnt perfect. Lotta pod casters out here trying to be somebody, trying to impress us with sex stories and money bs. Theo is just theo, only thing he is trying hard to do is make us laugh and feel better. That is why he has this following, period.
I honestly dont think hes necesarily trying to make audience laugh, hes trying to have á quality chat time which others can enjoy especially if they enjoyed time together and felt each other fun
Holy shit man, I'm only 2 and a half minutes in and Jim is doing EXACTLY what I had hoped: asking thoughtful, endearing questions to Theo, not the other way around. Theo has such a "shell" when it comes to expressing himself that I never know what he feels and thinks because it leads into a joke about someone he grew up with "who died."

It seems like he's simply navigating the industry's dynamics to succeed in his business, and I can't blame him for that.

Gaffigan is highly underrated, for sure top 5 best living comedians. He doesn't have to be controversial or political to be hilarious, who else can you say that about anymore? The man is in a lane all to himself. Being able to make people of multiple generations belly laugh in 2023 with clean material doesn't even make sense, but he delivers in every single special.

Sometimes when people are so well loved, and we're so fascinated by their talents, it's easy to forget they often go home alone to face their darkness like we all do. Theo has had some guests lately who I think wouldn't be very compatible with him (John Mulaney, Neil Degrasse Tyson being a couple notable examples), but every time I'm surprised by how great their chemistry is. Seeing Jim is on the podcast gives me the same feeling I got seeing the others (I didn't realize he's been on before, just heard Theo say it's his second appearance), but I'm guessing just like the others it is going to go great.
I agree totally with you man. Especially with the Neil Tyson episode. I truly thought that episode was gonna bomb but I love Theo and Neil so I watched it and it was great. Especially Theo asking if space or the universe was gay lol I cant remember which he said. I think if the guest is a good communicator and just rolls with some of the oddball things theo says sometimes then it’s gonna be a great pod no matter what.

I love your thoughts on weekend church, Theo. I grew up in a relatively small town where church was the best place to celebrate community. And that sense of community is very grounding. Stand up comedy is also that feeling of community. Or a good football game, or standing in line with everyone to see a popcorn movie on opening day.
