The number one thing that will increase a dog's Aggressive tendency is being inconsistent in your training.. timing and consistency is the main ingredients that separate good trainers from the mediocre
I completely agree with you. I think particularly with any use of corrections this is the case too.
38:50 I just got a customer like that..... She explained that the previous trainer she worked with convinced her to keep her hyper anxious and protective ex-stray dog for 3 months.... And only one home session.
That doesn't make any sense to me in the stand point of someone trying to help a dog owner. They did make good business sucking money from the owner for sure, but in no way wanted to coach or really help the family.
And this kind of practice really bothers me....
There are too many dog schools that promise fixing dogs after 30 days and no lessons (or only one lesson) with their own dogs on the last day. It was a clear case of a dog trainer thinking that the owner needs to be as fierce (In a sense of threatening) as the dog trainer to keep the dog in line and hoping that that would be enough...
its the absolute worst possible way of going about things. The age old saying of "training is for the owner not for the dog" is there for a reason.
To me "shut down" is the newly surrendered dog at the shelter, tail tucked, face in the corner, hunched over, no eye contact, no interaction with humans, no interest in food, etc., that dog is shut down.
I would agree. a dog in a new environment stressed out of their mind with NO guidance.
My favorite thing about Josh is his smile 😊
haha hell like that.
The audio quality between you two and here listening on my iPad is just fine. The audio quality of Dog Daddy’s phone was so bad I couldn’t listen to the interview/discussion (bummer) … Sussing out the interviewee’s equipment before you go live would be helpful.
yeah, unfortunately he was in a freaking cave with the echo haha.
Your audio always sounds fine honestly I mean I don't know what to say. I can try to listen back again to other podcast but I've never had an issue
I appreciate the kind words and feedback!
Audio on your end is fine. It’s guest audio that sometimes isn’t great.
I agree 100.
appreciate it!
Jeff is a hands down decent guy, sadly people see only the bonker video and judge him off that. Joelle is so sweet, they compliment each other nicely.
As a person, i really like him.
Thank you 🙏
sure thing!
The sound does go in and out some, but not crazy. I think it's more how you talk. Sometimes you project and sometimes you're quieter. it makes it more interesting to listen to.
haha that part is gonna be a little harder to control :)
Whenever I had to use a mic to speak I always remined myself to talk lower because the mic can pick up a mouse fart on a rug 3 rooms over.
My life ugh so much damn shit happened with both of us in Maxwell first year and a half of life I’m trying so hard to get to you!!! Need to get started
soon!
waiting for that podcast with Jeff. you two are the trainers I mainly watch and having a patreon membership with him and being able to zoom call face to face because he really wants to help normal pet parents. he really is a great guy just being hated on for his methods that actually work, smh lol. heck, his methods helped my anxious klee kai
Agreed! He told me it should go live this week so we’ll see!
@@MiracleK9Training wake the fuck up with Jeff and David. Hell yeah!
Another great podcast guys 🙌💕
appreacite it! I really liked this episode.
The audio is decent! Maybe sometime in far future you'll update, but it isn't necessary rn
Appreciate the response!
I would hire an audio specialist to come in and do a lesson or two with you and show you how to set the audio, let them evaluate your sound quality and make the necessary changes. It's a write off and worth the expense.
i'm gonna look into it.
a slate/clapper slapper would be good for testing the audio and sound quality. you test it by clapping the slate and based gauging the pitch that was recorded. That's pretty much the second function of a slate with the first being a scene marker. I helped my mom when she was in film school by doing slate on set because I could not be left home alone for 3 months at a young age and that is where I learned this from. It is hard to substitute a slate for sound testing because the sound of other objects may not be picked up as well by the mic.
Audio is fine, people should probably learn how to use the volume toggle on their phones...
🤷♂️🤷♂️ thanks
Your audio has sounded fine to me - no complaints here! Obviously there's only so much you can do with interviewer audio.
My favourite thing about Josh is that even though he's quiet, he looks like he's hanging on to every word being said when you monologue 😂 Josh is gonna be a big brain dog trainer in no time.
Anyway, I'm glad you talk so much about what's happening in the dog training sphere - even as just a hobbyist and dog owner, it's been immensely helpful and important. It's been way too easy to attach big feelings when it comes to defending our training choices on public forums and we have to remember that /human beings/ are on the other side of the screen, whether they're the influencer or the people engaging in the comments - no matter how they train their dogs.
I'll never forget being infantalised by a certain R+ trainer in the comments. I follow people and gain information from both sides of the aisle and I like to ask questions and engage. What gets to me is when the audience is treated like children or someone that needs "saving". I don't need saving, I just want to understand and be understood.
thank you so much for the kind words and the constant support!!!
There are some podcasts whit bad audio but it's mainly because you are far from the mic or because the guest didn't have pro equipment. I've listened to some as you already know and audio it's ok to me.
Appreciate the reply!
About the audio quality; It's not horrible, but there is room for a lot of improvement. You got all the equipment, just need someone to set it up right.
It's a little too spikey, gain too high, definitely for having the microphone so close. Try with a fist or two away.
It's serviceable for general listening, but I like listening to podcasts when going to bed and thats a scenario where this doesn't quite cut it.
i'm gonna look into it. that makes a lot of sense.
You have a tendency to sometimes whisper for emphasis. That is really the only time I ever have trouble hearing what you say. That would be my only complaint about the audio. Apparently, a person can still project their voice while whispering, so maybe being more mindful about doing that will prevent the problem.
Also, i agree with you about Jeff. Never met him in person, but you can tell just by hearing him talk that he's a super cool dude. He has been through so much crap and he's still out here twice a day, 5 days a week just trying to help people...it's a hell of a lot more than most people do.
I try to find a balance of being mindful of that but also not focusing too much on it to take away from the points I'm trying to make. I've gathered some good data of some adjustments that I can make though!
@@MiracleK9Training That suggestion was just me nitpicking. 99.8% of the time, I hear ya loud and clear. It's always a good thing to want to keep improving, though!
Audio seems ok to me
thanks!
I think the audio quality in the studio is fine but I do struggle to listen to the other podcasts where the crew sit down and have a chat. Its a great shame because the content is so good but it's really hard to listen to because of the background noise and the difference in volume of each person speaking. Still love you guys though ❤
The first 10-20 episodes were really bad audio quality wise. We made some adjustments post those episodes to fix them.
I think your audio has always been ok for me. Dog daddy's audio during last episode was terrible though. A big problem I had previously, was that you guys didn't show the videos you were watching and talking about. Now you do, so that's great.
Yeah that was a tough one because he was having issues with his computer and needed to use his phone in a different room that was massively echoey.
Pardon me, I have a question. I know you don't know me, the dog, and haven't seen the situation, so you cannot answer precisely. I remote collar trained my dog. She's been happily off leash for about 3 months. Things had been nothing but great until today. Recall quite good, heel surprisingly good when bikes and rollerblades are around. We don't go to dog parks, I live in the city, we generally go to bike paths, with less people and dogs. We still meet plenty, and plenty off leash dogs. It doesn't matter if I tell my dog to leave it (she will), or to heel (she will), because I can see other dogs stalking her from a distance, and when we get there, I cannot punish my dog for interacting with this guy who just came running and invaded her space. I know I should tell the owner to fuck off or I will kick their dog, but trust me, I'd have to shout at people 3 to 5 times a day, everyday.
My problem is recalling when she's playing with other dogs + with people around. During my first remote collar 'period', I had the bump function set to +20. Early I realized that was inefficient to recall when she played with another dog. I increased it to +30 and I hadn't had an issue until today. Today I could see it was less effective than usual, so instead of bumping I went continuous, but unfortunately there were a LOT of different people around (like 10 here and there). So when the dog tried complying, what I suspect, is that she reached the first few people, pressure did not turn off as usual when she reaches me, so she got confused and started wandering (towards the way home, I was far behind). I panicked and increased the stim significantly, and I got an emergency down out of her, which was correct. I was a fucking idiot, and instead of going to her, I recalled again, and when she stayed down, stimmed. She got up and kept wandering the other way, and luckily two strangers stopped her and I got her. I was scared as hell, she looked fine. After it, we went home, I took a shower, then we went to a field to practice recall for an extra hour. I brought plenty of food, and I increased the bump to +45 to really nail her for noncompliance (happened twice). I will also practice emergency downs, and remember to use them properly. What's your advice for these situations? Recall from activity with other dogs, and possible confusion due to the number of people around?
Apologies for the long question. @@MiracleK9Training
great question! We'll get into this in our next episode that will be a Q&A episode but the first couple points are 1. I don't use the boost function. Increase your stimulations manually until you get compliance. There is not boost you will set that will be 100% reliable all the time. IT will change too much. 2. role play the situation. Get a handful of people and dogs together if possible and repeatedly practice recalls continue to correct and help until the dog realizes its YOU they need to come to not the other people.@@zsahe21
Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I had point n.1 far, far, in the back of my mind, but hearing it from you is quite the... boost. Pun intended. Will do.
Regarding point n2: It might be a little impractical, but where there's a will, there's a way.
I am looking forward to the next episode, as every Monday. Have a fantastic weekend, everyone at MK9. @@MiracleK9Training
I see it exactly the opposite (so kinda like you). If provided with physical and mental excercise, a truly happy dog is calm, relaxed and prefers to chill. If a dog is hyper, with wide eyes and jumpy behaviour, he is not happy, he is instead overaroused due to either not getting the physical and mental stimulation he needs or is getting way too much of it (a dog has an individual treshold and gets crazy if it's too much, same with children. "After tired comes silly" as we say here in germany). If a dog is used for sports, police etc, then it can be benefitial to get him into the hyper state but for your average pet dog it does not. Quite the contrary. Many of the issues dogs have come exactly from this and most owners even reinforce the hyper thing as they believe it's a sign the dog is happy but it simply just stressed. What I always teach from day one is staying calm no matter what. Nothing what my Akita needed to learn lol but my GSD certainly did and both are relaxed in all situations and thus always in mental contact with me and listen. It's funny as people who don't own dogs always see happy and qell behaved dogs in them, it's only a few crazy dog owners who think a dog needs to be jumpy and missbehaving to be happy 🤷🏼♀️🤡
I totally agree with you. Unfortunately we have normalized calm = sad or bad.
them: ¨i dont want to break his/her spirit¨
me: your dog almost knocked over an old lady using a walker while chasing a squirrel across a busy road....
Audio quality is always very good for me; dog daddy episode had a muffled audio on his end, I had put on the captions to help on that one
Thanks for watching! Yeah, the room he was in was CRAZY echoey
Audio seems pretty OK. The issue is mostly someone else's audio on interviews. But a talk between u guys is OK...
yup, sometimes its hard when the other person is in a room that is very echoey.
39:25 That is a huge fail. A long five hour training session when you take your dog home is extremely overwhelming for both dog and handler, the dog is highly excited, the owner is happy to get the dog back, etc., it's too much to remember all at once. A short lesson at hand off then several staggered follow up in person lessons with calls so the handler has time to let each lessons soak in and then come up with questions they may have for the next time.
past just it being a long time I 100% agree and talk about navigating the owner focusing through the excitement of getting their dog back a lot
Ivan just did a podcast with the DD, but you probably know. 🤗@@MiracleK9Training
Where do I find your dog training videos on any platform? I can't seem to find them. Thanks!
We have a dog vlog that comes out once per week for the last 100 weeks or so that is almost a solid hour of our lessons and training we conduct at our facility. It’s fairly easy to find on here. We post clips from that vlog as well as our podcasts on our Miraclek9training Instagram, Facebook, tiktok, x, and rumble channel as well.
@@MiracleK9Training, Thanks.
@@MiracleK9Training I have a couple of questions and a request before I go looking for you training an aggressive dog.
Are the videos “shorts” or full videos from the beginning of your training to the end showing a fixed, aggressive dog?
Are the dogs new to you?
Since you have many platforms, would you point me to one where I will be successful in finding your successful training of aggressive dogs?
Thank you for your reply.
@@User7688.--_ the best place to start would probably be ready our testimonials where you can hear from the horses mouth the issues the clients were experiencing and what their lives are like post training but past that a couple quick searches on our UA-cam channel can lead you to whatever it is your looking for.
Any one have a link or know the name of the study they are talking about at 53:05?
Also audio quality is great, no complaints except for the podcast with Augusto. Him not having a microphone and being in some stylish cave or echo chamber made it a real pain to listen to 😂
Hahahahaha his was rough audio wise.
Just google learned helplessness study and you should be able to find it easily
@@MiracleK9Training For any one that's interested in the write up of the study.
Google Scholar 'martin seligman learned helplessness dog study'
It's a interesting read and wild to hear about old science experiments where anything goes 😂😅
Thank you guys for putting in the work for the podcast, always great to hear different perspectives. Appreciate you both
59:36 sigh. What looks best on a FB video I guess.
Yup
Maxwell is definitely a huge liability and did exactly what the Frankie dog did is what happened to my cousin husband but him pretty bad same will happen with Maxwell he is terrified of me especially he will definitely be muzzled majority of the time we severely need your help and he nipped me because he didn’t want to do something so it’s a pretty bad situation
Can you talk about training dogs with ecollar with dogs that had a bad experience with a ecollar
I can touch on that next time for sure.
Sounds great stop stressing I’d be more worried about ya fringe 😂😂🙏 thanks
what is ya fringe?! haha.
@@MiracleK9Training 😂😂 the funny bit of your hair line poking out ya cap 😂😂😂
Loving your podcast 🙏
HA! people arent used to seeing me without a hat on. Ironically I got a haircut right after this episode @@mrbond229
And the one male trainer punched him dead is face so that definitely made him worse
