As always gentlemen great podcast. When explaining to clients that the harness is their enemy, i use the example of protection sport. How the harness is used to agitate the dog into forward motion. Now i have a great podcast to show them before i even get there. thank you. B

here in peru a lot of people either walk their dog off leash with poor recall or allow them to roam freely and come and go as they please. my dog does none of these things and we have had instances where a dog would rush out and try to attack him and the owner does nothing until i act completely unhinged. he is fine with small dogs and even ignores them (he is a 30lb dog btw) but large dogs set him off especially if they are un altered (he is fine with a lot of unaltered dogs even though he is neutered) as they usually try to dominate him. large puppies and large senor dogs dont seem to affect him. i have had to pick him up on several occasions just to protect him. defensive walking is definitely the law of the land here. he has also become slightly people reactive because sometimes strangers would just see a cute dog and bypass the security check that asking first provides. with people who ask to pet him i give them a "yes...but...." answer.
i found with my dog and his reactivity doing threshold training seems to help. he looks at the stimuli (doesnt fixate on it) then looks at me and gets a reward and i slowly decrease his threshold. if he reacts we go back to 1 and try again from further away. if a dog comes up to him and he is ok he gets a reward. if he tries to fixate on them I give him the "look at me" command. in some cases though with pushy dogs i allow him to tell them "hey i dont like that!". one time at a park a aussie shepherd tried to herd him and its owner was trying to call them off to avail. my dog whips around and snaps at the dog (not too hard) and that was the only thing the other dog listened to. a great dane pup tried the same thing and got the same result and backed off. this great dane also slammed itself into an adult black lab and barrel rolled it.

@@angelinacamacho8575 I am all for people doing what works for them!! I’d just ask myself the question of how long have I been doing it for and do I have sights set on being fully past it or not yet. Reactivity on the leash should be able to be completely eliminated in a fairly short period of time. I haven’t seen much long term completion of working traditional BAT CAT counter conditioning for it

I LOVE Michael, what a great educator and teacher.
I call it "the mailman effect" to my clients when breaking it down as far as their indoor window barking etc. Successfully deterring the threat! Lol so the dog thinks 😂
Really fascinating to see that expedited progression. It makes so much sense.
Talk about confidence building activity though for that dog! One way to do it! Lol

@@joyfulk9services it’s the same as when dogs are reactive towards strangers in the home and owners say “my dog is SO aggressive! They aren’t scared at all”. But the behavior was created by fear, they just became confident in controlling the scary thing.

It's really rather annoying when the sound isn't mixed properly and the podcast sound is lower than the sound of the clips.
Other than that, great episode as usual ♥
