- COURT UPHOLDS CONVICTION
District Attorney Paul Czajka announced Thursday, June 24, 2021 that the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Department, affirmed the conviction of Goliath Van Alphen, who was sentenced in 2016 for multiple sex crimes against children.
Mr. Van Alphen was convicted along with his co-defendants, Eugene Shackleton, William Wendover, and Jeannine Van Alphen on October 18, 2016 after a jury trial of numerous counts of child sexual
abuse including multiple counts of Predatory Sexual Assault against a Child, a class A-II felony.
The trial lasted 12 days before Honorable Judge Richard M. Koweek. DA Czajka and Deputy Chief ADA Ryan Carty prosecuted the case and called the child victims, each of whom was under 11 years of age at the time of the abuse, as witnesses. The jury of nine women and three men announced their verdict after deliberating for approximately 5 hours. Hon. Judge Richard M. Koweek sentenced Goliath Van Alphen to a prison term of 124 1/3 years to life on October 24, 2016. The other co-defendants received sentences as follows: Eugene Shackleton, 71 years to life; William Wendover, 60 ½ years to life; and Jeannine Van Alphen, 50 years to life.
Chief Assistant District Attorney James Carlucci argued the appeal on behalf of the District Attorney’s office on April 22, 2021. Attorney John Ferrara, Esq., of Monticello, represented the appellant, Mr. Van Alphen. The Appellate Division announced its decision today, June 24, 2021.

HUDSON - Four people found guilty of a number of child-sex crimes were sentenced in Columbia County Court on Tuesday afternoon to serve up to life in prison.
Goliath Van Alphen, of Claverack; his former wife, Jeanine Van Alphen-Moot, of Hillsdale; Eugene Shackleton, of Copake; and William Wendover III, of Cairo, were found guilty Aug. 10 on the most serious counts stemming from the abuse of multiple children between June 2009 and Feburary 2011.
Van Alphen, who was found guilty of 11 felony charges in the case, was sentenced to 124 2/3 years to life. Van Alphen Moot was given 50 years to life. Shackleton was given 71 years to life, and Wendover was given 69 ½ year to life in prison.
Each defendant had two of the charges they were found guilty on thrown out before the sentencing, but the sentences handed down were still severe enough to send the four to prison for what may be the rest of their lives.

@Vee Cee yes and no. All it takes is for one of the guys to accidentally be placed in g.p. or, one of the guards let slip what they're in for...other inmates will p.c. up just to get at them. Sometimes they even "commit suicide" when two guards fall asleep and the cameras miraculously stop working. Things happen.

I'm a survivor myself, and unfortunately, it was my family who did this to me, the kids can recover, they don't have to let this define their future, I know a lot of people think that people like me, and these kids can't overcome this, but yes, we can, and we can be successful. I'm nothing like my family. I raised my kids completely different than my family raised me, I'm a good mom and I know it, and it's because of what I went through, but these kids, if they really want to have a happy life then they can't live in the past, you just can't and you can't let anything to define your future and you can overcome anything, so please remember that just because this happened, it doesn't mean it ruins your life or your broken. As a matter of fact, I'm very strong because of what happened, and I can honestly handle just about anything, unless, of course, something happened to my children. I just want y'all to be aware that as survivors, we don't have to let anything hold us back. We know that we're capable of anything and we can overcome anything, so please don't live in the past, only look towards the future, and it's awesome to see a woman pay for the rest of her life, and it's awesome to see that with the men too. The laws need to change, it needs to be stricter, the first time they do this they get a taste for it. They will do it forever.

I'm a survivor, the act of sexual abuse and the consequences that we victims have to deal with last a lifetime! It changed who I became, the struggles to have a normal relationship is completely taken away. Most of the time the pretitor gets away with it and we are left discarded robbed of having the choice of knowing what it means to have a loving relationship one that doesn't hurt in so many different ways. I'm 60 now and still dealing with the pain of it at times. I was only 8 !!! 😔 Thanks to my husband I learned what real love is. I'm glad to see that he will spend a lot of time thinking about his dispicable actions but then again it might give him the satisfaction to relieve the acts and get sexual satisfaction from it because these people are Narcissist and Phsychopaths and don't care about their victims only themselves and being caught ! As a young boy this happened to me by a family member and a babysitter. I didn’t tell my mom until I was older. I chose to be a sheep dog, to help and watch over my younger nieces and nephews.
I have thought about killing those that did this to me but, I am continuing to forgive them. One day I will be at total peace.
The main crutch I use is Jesus Christ,he is my Lord and Savior.

Good judge, this can't go on. These sex offenders recently have been getting only a handful of years in prison and then you have a person with some non prescribed prescription pills and they are getting life sentence.

Every case is different and the category of 'sex crimes' as well as the label 'sex offender' encompasses a broad range of individuals who've perpetrated a broad range of offenses. These people received what appears to be the maximum sentence allowed by law, and while the Judge didn't go into detail it seems that in this particular case this sentence is appropriate. In my opinion anyone found guity of raping a child under 13 by force should in most cases face either life inprisonment or the death penalty. Now while there are some fairly draconian sentences handed out for minor drug offenses I've personally never heard of a single individual nor do I believe that a single individual has ever been sentenced to life inprisonment for possession of "some" which is to imply a "few" prescription pills. This is simply not the case nor has it ever been. Now if someone is found guilty of possessing, selling, or distributing massive quantities of prescription pills or conterfiets found to contain fentanyl, I could then see how a life sentence is possible, I still don't agree with it but I could atleast understand the states rationale. People need to get over this delusion that people receive life sentences for minor drug offenses whilst sex offenders get a slap on the wrist this simply isn't true. Yes harsh sentences are handed out for relatively minor drug offenses and its a miscarraige of justice that needs to be addressed. But people must also understand that, the possession of child pornography, rape of an adult, rape of a child, and consensual sex with underage teenagers are all completely different and therefore fundamentally unequal acts and are therefore not prosecuted and punished nor should they be treated in the same manner by the state. Not to mention there is a massive difference between prosecuting an offense that occurred yesterday and prosecuting an offense that occurred twenty years ago which will typically result in a vast disparity in terms of sentencing, not to mention the socio-economic status of the offenders, case in point Bill Cosby received what a 3-7 year sentence? For crimes the average man would likely have received a 20-Life sentence.

All have been sentenced to 25 to life
Meaning they’ll be eligible for parole 25 years from now with it being life in prison with possibility of parole
But even so they’ll be registered as a sex offender’s for the rest of their lives and with that hopefully can never have contact with children again
That question will be will they ever see their parole hearing for 25 years from now if the prisoners don’t get them first
However I feel deeply for the children that they harmed and the pain that they must suffer because of these people
Who knows what evil could happen to them now because of these pricks they now can’t be there because they abuse their own children so any evil person can just run up there and do what they please because now they don’t have a mother or a father to protect them
And that something they’ll have to live with for the rest of their life as for the children they may have nightmares for the rest of their life thanks to this but hopefully they’ll get their justice in the end especially if the prisoners get to these terrible excuses for parents once and for all

Big Rhonda no they arn’t, they are put in a different cell block. However they still have contact with general population in the yard or at their prison jobs. Kitchen laundry etc...these people do not get special protection.
